Today, we are learning how to persevere through the obstacles that may come our way. It isn't always easy, but you can do hard things. It is important that you build the character trait of GRIT so that you don't end up completely quitting when times are tough.

In this episode you will learn a couple ways that you can persevere- or show grit, and we're doing it all by looking at scripture to help us build a solid foundation. We are also going to talk about how to navigate through failing. We have been groomed to think that failing is something we should be ashamed of or embarrassed about, but I say it's time to change that thought process.  This is the year you keep that promise to yourself, the year you finally shift your mindset and be transformed. This is the year you learn how to win!

Hey friend, welcome to the Restored Mind Podcast, where we are going to be talking about various life topics surrounding mindset transformations. These topics are coming from a faith lens and will propel you into a life of peace and joy. My name is Caroline, wife, mom of three, daughter of the one true king. Host of this podcast and certified light coach through the I am system by Painting Vehicles Incorporations. My hope is that this podcast brings God's light into your life and you break free from the chains that are holding you back. Friend, it is time to shift your mindset into one that will help you flourish. Ready? Let's go. Hello and welcome to the restored mind podcast. My name is Caroline, and I'm super excited to have you here today. I have some exciting news to share with you, but before I get into all of that, I just want to welcome my returning listeners. Thank you so much that you come back week after week to spend some time with me and just listen in on what I'm talking about today. If you are a new listener, welcome a board. The restored mind, family. Here at the restorative mind podcast, we are looking at mindset transformations from a faith lens. So that means that we are using scripture as our foundation to help guide us through this world. And I'm super excited that you here, I hope that you find this episode or this podcast in general, enlightening to you and that you see and feel God's light in your life. I also hope that you'll stay. I don't know how you got here, but I am so excited and happy. That you are here. So what's the news that I've been wanting to share with you? Well, I'm sure you've heard in the beginning of this podcast episode, that there is a new introduction and there's new music, there's even a new cover art for this podcast. Can you believe it? I feel like this has been in the works for quite some time now. And I've been actually wanting to share this with you back in November, but honestly, the Lord asked me to wait. I didn't understand it then, but now I understand. That things needed to just fall in place, the way that he wilted so that everything would make sense. And so as the restored, mine is rebranding itself, there are so many good things that are to come. There is an official logo that I have for that restored mind. And I partnered with one of my really good friends. To create this logo. Honestly, it was her idea, but I just gave her my vision and she took it and ran with it and I am so appreciative of her. I'm going to link her information in the show notes so that you can also get in contact with her. If you're needing someone that might be able to create a logo for you, or just do some custom artwork, she is so. Gifted and talented in the field of arts and she has an eye for detail. So I love that about her also love the 15 plus years of friendship that we've had. With each other as well, just watching each other. Walk in our trials of marriage and motherhood and just growing closer to, because of that. But anyway, I know I'm getting off topic so more on the restored mind, there is an official logo. I also have an official Instagram account, which I will link in the show notes as well. But it's underscore the restored mind. And most importantly, I am beyond excited to share with you and extend to you. A new service that I am offering. And that is life. Coaching where I specialize and mindset building a solid foundation for a transformed mindset, And when this opportunity came, honestly, I was so hesitant about it because I had a lot of unbelief inside of myself. But if you can recall about two years back, if you followed me for quite some time, I advertise myself as a life coach because in that season of my life, I have some major breakthroughs and I. knew that this is what I wanted to do in order to help service. Some of the people around me. I didn't realize that. The war that we have with our own thoughts is something that most of us deal with on a daily basis. So I wanted to offer this service. To a lot of you, but again, God steps in. And he tells me to place that on hold and to start a podcast, Which is now the restored mind. And in November, I had this one year anniversary episode planned, where I share with you all of these milestones that have happened. But like I said earlier, the Lord has asked me to wait. And so I did. But I guess now is the time to share. So through the restored mine, There's been so many good things that's happened in the last year with the restored mine. So there's not only the podcast, but now there's a small group called the restored mind where I do. Meet up with women that discusses mindset things. And in relation to our faith as well. And so I was able to lead that small group. It was my first time doing anything like this. And I have to say that. I'm so grateful for how the Lord shows up, because through all of my worries, I realized that none of the worries that I have stood up against what our Lord can do. So, what I mean by that is that. When I first started this, I didn't think anybody would show up. And. I made peace with thinking that if I spoke to a bunch of people, but nobody showed up, I'd be okay. As long as the seed was planted. And that thought carried on through the first meeting that I had. But. In that experience when people showed up, I got nervous.'cause, I didn't really know what to say. But then through the small group, through growing in the small group as a leader, I also met some wonderful ladies. I got to know some women and they opportunity came for me to become a life coach I'm affiliated with painting miracles. I am certified through. The I am system by painting miracles, incorporation. And through that clinic, I'm so excited and so happy to share with you some of the services that I'll be providing and some of the services that they provide as well. there are some big things happening here at the restorative mine. And I just want to say thank you for your unwavering support. For the ladies that reach out to me for the ones who are just silent listeners. I understand maybe. Reaching out. Isn't something that is comfortable to you and you're just here to listen. I completely get it to not understand, but I still see you. And I thank you so much for being here. And honestly, none of this would happen without you. When I started the restored mind podcast, I didn't even think I would have one listener and you showed me time and time again, that you're showing up in the you're here and that you're listening. So thank you. So that's the good news that I have to share with you. My services start now this entire month says the end of December. Through today. We have been talking about how to keep your new year resolution and to meet your goals. My intentions are to help you keep your goal throughout the year. That was the main point of this mini series. I wasn't honestly, never a person to keep my new year resolution and had a negative thought process towards setting a goal because in the back of my mind, I had assumed that I was going to fail anyway. So what was the point of even trying. A big part of that mindset was because I didn't know how to navigate around my already existing lifestyle. And I was under the impression that everything needed to change all at once. Over the course of the two weeks I've shared with you. Some of my most helpful discoveries When I was in a mindset of quitting on myself. Now these discoveries probably are not anything new to you, but it could serve as a refresher to you as well. So I encourage you to go back and. Listen in on the past three weeks episode, if you missed them. But the discoveries that I talk about, they were new to me during this particular season. And who knows they might be new to you as well. My hope in sharing them is that it inspires you to keep one or all of these things in the back of your mind, as you find your routine that works for you. And then it shifts your mindset from an all or nothing journey. Into a progress over perfection mindset. Of course doing all of this with scripture and Jesus in mind. So to recap all that's happened so far in week one. I talked about keeping it simple. It was an idea of habit stacking taken from the book called atomic habits. If you have not read that book yet, my friends, I highly encourage you to read that book. It's so. Good. It is written by James clear, highly recommended. And we too, we talked about being intentional and diligent in our work. It's important to train ourselves so that we can adapt to what is happening in our life. And I shared my story on. The two verses in Proverbs one that spoke to me when I was in my twenties and how I was offended by that. And then how about I ended up changing my perspective later on in life. Today's topic is going to be about grit and it's going to be the final. Topic in this mini series. If you find that you still need help at the end of this episode on how you can get a better footing or laying a more solid foundation on your journey, reach out to me. I would love to help you and offer my life coaching services to you. So today we're talking about grit. What is grit? It is a character trait that you can possess and act on when you are consistently showing your passion and perseverance towards a goal. Despite what obstacles you may come across. Grid is being steadfast and having endurance. So think about a growth mindset. If you need a refresher. On why mindset matters. I highly encourage you to check out. That episode, I believe it was episode two of the restored mind. But to quickly recap, a growth mindset is someone who believes they can learn and improve. Whereas a fixed mindset is the opposite of that. So they believe that their way of thinking or talent is unchangeable. Or that they are quote, set in their ways. Grit is courage. It is a mental toughness going after what is uncomfortable when it comes to personal growth or really any kind of journey that is outside your comfort zone takes courage and it can be scary. Because there are many unknowns when you are walking in new territory and yes. There's even the potential to fail many times before you quote, get it right. But I just want to remind you not to be afraid of these new, territory's not to be afraid to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. It's okay to start messy. It's okay to fail. Kind of weird that I'm saying that, right. Because we've been groomed to think that we need to always win or always succeed. But my friend that comes from failing that comes from understanding where we're falling short and working from that spot. It is time. That we begin to shift our thoughts or our feelings of embarrassment into thoughts of opportunity and feelings of achievement. And you might not think that failing is an achievement, but I personally see it as it is because. When you've pushed outside your limits, you don't really know. Where your limits are until you hit a failing point. And that my friend is an achievement because you've hit another milestone. You now know. What your limitations are, and then you get to decide if you stay at these limitations or if you find a way past them. That's an achievement for me. I used to be so afraid. So definitely afraid of failing. That's why I was afraid of success because I would think. If I got to the top, what comes next? Do I go down from here? What if I fail? That was always a question in the back of my mind, you know, it wasn't until I started shifting my mindset and thinking about failure as a way to help me, instead of hindering me. That's where. The growth started happening. Another reason why you want to begin to shift your perspective on failure. So that when you fall short of your expectations, It doesn't completely stop you from persevering. Instead you begin to delight in you work. Example I have is with my pushup journey. I cannot do one pushup last year and I kept trying and trying, and I failed many, many, many times, but eventually I got to that one because I persevered through the obstacles that I was going through. And I honestly did not see myself ever getting past the hard stage of. Trying to get my body used to pushing me up. But eventually. All of the times I showed up. Built. Into the success that I was able to achieve with that one pushup. Now we are a year past that. it's the beginning stage that becomes really scary to people because they're unsure of what's going to happen, but let's take our focus off on the future for a moment when it comes to stepping outside your comfort zone and just focus on what you have and what's in front of you. Take it one step at a time, one day at a time. Paul tells us enrollments to rejoice in our sufferings because it produces endurance, which produces character. And yes, the Bible talks about spiritual things. But remember at the restore minded, we are looking at mindset changes from a faith lens. So we look at scripture to help guide us and help us build a solid foundation. Two Timothy tells us that all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness. And do we are in the business of renewing our minds so we can use scripture to help us grow in areas of our life. We can walk in confidence and knowing that we can do all things through him who strengthens us. All things, my friends. So, yes. Even the goals that you've set for yourself. It's included in the all things. Your everyday life is included in that. There are many ways that you can show grit and that is to continue to show up. So it's persevering through the hard times, showing up takes practice. It doesn't matter if you're on day one of your journey, or if you are 15 years into your journey, showing up takes practice. Building a new habit is not easy, but you show grit when you continue to show up. No matter how long you've been working on your personal growth, it's still takes practice. Let's be honest here, not every day is going to be one of those days where you are super motivated to show up and do the work that needs to be done. Two. Get you to the next step of you achieving the goal that you've set for yourself. I'm not motivated every day. But when practice to show up, you already essentially building discipline muscle and discipline is going to take you a lot further than motivation ever will. Discipline is what helps you build grit. Another way that you can show great is just to be honest with yourself. Learned to be honest with yourself in separate excuses from grace, there is a thin line. Between grace and excuse, because we can honestly end up using grace as it quote, safety net for the excuse that we make. Won't when we are catering to our emotions. Instead of the reality of what is, let me clarify by saying that I'm not telling you to exert yourself a hundred percent of the time, especially when your time and the lifestyle though, the routine that you've had for the day. Doesn't a lot for that. Let's be realistic and think about how much time we can dedicate to the goal that we have instead of trying to force it to happen. This goes back to habit stacking. This is not an all or nothing journey, so it's okay to admit when you fall in short. It's okay to admit that maybe you did use grace as an excuse to cater to you. Simply not wanting to show up The reason why it's okay to admit these things. It's because they are part of the learning curve for us. When we start to acknowledge and see these things happening, we can stop it from continuing on. There will be times when we are tempted to skip a workout or lower our standards. All for the sake of not feeling like it, or just trying to go through the motions within this is where honesty and accountability comes in. Are you going to do what you said you're going to do? Or are you going to just think about it and then halfway commit? There is a difference in the outcome in the end. And the last thing I have here on how you can show grit. Is to work on mindset transformations. Grit is mental strength because it is the will to want to show up, Even when you're struggling through it. Oftentimes when our bodies become uncomfortable, online wants to quit because it's naturally wanting to be comfortable. It wants to take the path of least resistance. What is going to exert the least amount of energy. But see my friends sometimes that's not always good for us. Sometimes we need to push outside our limits so that we can reach new milestones. Sometimes our mind gets in our way. Right. But the best way to combat that is by replacing negative words with positive ones. See, I used to think that the saying change can't too can, was a silly saying, because I used to think. what if someone literally couldn't. And while yes, that can very well be true. The idea here is to think about how you can do something or what else can you do instead? It's about being resourceful with what you have. It's the idea of finding another productive, alternative way that is going to help you in your journey. Which leads me to gumption. What is gumption? Well, it's taking initiative and being resourceful, which goes hand-in-hand with grit because it's all about mental toughness, both grit and gumption are about perseverance. It is about endurance in Luke 21, 19. It is written by your endurance. You will gain your lives. and yes, this comes from Jesus' foretelling of wars and persecution, But did you know that your mind can be at war with thoughts that you are not enough for whatever reason, because you're failing or because you're something unworthy because you think that in your head, you're not trying hard enough, whatever it is. Your minds can be at war with itself, and it'll hit you with temptations to quit and highlight all of the reasons why you should quit. But my friend. Good way to combat that is to invite the Lord into that space. Replace the negative things that you're thinking about yourself, with what the Lord says about you and the he moves the veil over your eyes so that you may see yourself how he sees you. My friend. When you do that, he is going to reveal to you that it breaks his heart. How unkind you can be to yourself because he loves you so much. So much so that he gave up his life. For you to be redeemed into house salvation. And you had heard some that you are labeling yourself as these things. So my friend, it is time that we start building a mindset of grit and gumption of endurance, of mental toughness of perseverance. Of knowing that you are able, because you can persevere. You can build a character trait of grit. You can show gumption through your actions By doing all of this and all the things I talked about in previous episodes, you are well on your way into keeping the promise that you've made for yourself this year. And even well beyond that. So if this is your first time setting a new year resolution, I hope that you were able to take something from each of these previous episodes and apply it into your journey. If this isn't your first go around, and this is your umpteen time trying to stick it, my friend, I hope that this is the year for you. I know that there's so many good things happening in your life that we have. To keep in mind that we need to delight in our work so that we can show up practice showing up and do what needs to be done so that we can attain the goal that we've set for ourself. So this wraps up the mini series that I have going on and how to keep your new year resolution. Again. If you still find that you need help in any way, shape or form, reach out to me, I would love to offer the life coaching services to you. I thank you so much again for being here. And. I know that it's so much easier said than done when I'm explaining all of these things and just sharing my thoughts with you. It's so much easier for me to speak on these things than to actually carry it out. But my friend, I know that you can do it because you can do our things. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to listen in on this episode. I meant what I said. You can do hard things, so don't let the daily challenges stop you from reaching your greatest potential.
