Emotional Reaction vs Emotional Reflection

Using emotions to your advantage rather than letting your emotions run you. There's a difference between emotional reaction and emotional reflection. We're subconsciously conditioned not to talk about or reflect on our own emotions, but this actually closes us off to understanding ourselves and how we're feeling. To me, emotional intelligence means being able to understand where your human emotional reaction is coming from and understanding it to a deeper level. Only when we are not in tune with ourselves and our feelings do we let our emotions and initial emotional reaction control us.
