Ep895 Mental Prep Before Changing
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We’ve all been told that a fresh start is exactly what we need. We pack our bags, clean out our desks, or sign a new lease, convinced that a new zip code or a different office will automatically solve our problems. But here is the hard truth: If you don’t change your internal landscape, a new external landscape won’t change a thing.
Before you physically shift environments, you have to mentally prepare for the transition. Otherwise, you’ll just unpack your old habits, old stresses, and old versions of yourself in a shiny new room.
In this episode, we dive deep into the essential psychological work required before you make a major move or career pivot. We break down the difference between running away from friction and intentionally stepping into growth, and how to audit your current space so you don’t carry its baggage into the next one.
Yo, it's your main man, Bryan, Bryce Kell. Man, we all been there. Had to move to a new city. Had to move to a new state. Had to get a new goddamn job. Had to just take everything we had and change everything we was just doing. And make it different. Had to change the routine up. You feel me? We all been there. We all had to do it. You understand me? We signed that paper. We was ready on paper. But shit, we weren't ready mentally. Understand me? Our mind was not there at all. Our mind should have shit should have came with us, but we forgot this motherfucker at the house. Understand me? We all did that, you feel me? And in life, man, we all gonna have those transitions. You feel me? Those shots of busy damn lives that change us. And boom, an empty room, an empty office just starting over from motherfucking scratch, you dig? And today, we're gonna talk about, man, how to prep your mind before you change environments. You feel me? You just care, like if you don't change your motherfucking mindset before you change environments, get what you doing. You carrying all the old patterns, all the dumbass scrits to the wrong place. You feel me? Those habits are going into the new place you finna move into. If you ain't changed yet. If you still the same person, what the fuck you doing? You still the same mindset, you got the same type of routine that you had when you was this age. It's something fucking wrong. You feel me? So let's get this shit out. You feel me? Changing is probably one of the best ways to upgrade your life, but only if you know how to mentally transition first. In this video, we're gonna break down exactly how to psychologically prep your mind to become better. You feel me? You trying to what thrive, not just survive, man. Y'all stop playing with y'all time, man. Y'all feel me? Y'all hang on understanding, y'all? Let's get right into it, man. The first thing is, man, manage the attention residue. Once you have managed the attention residue, you are what? Moving into a place of, okay, I'm this is the residue is where some shit that's left over. You don't want nothing left over from what how the fuck you used to be. You don't want that on your mind no more, right? You want to thrive, right? To thrive day to day, you have to actually manage the transition before it happens. Here's the psychological framework, y'all. Let's get into it, man. Close the loop on the old environment. Like, close it. Like this shit, the going in the circle, that this shit does gotta stop. This is the new circle. You feel me? Your brain has infinite bandwidth, right? If you enter a new space with lingering emotional baggage or unfinished business from the old one, you experience attention residue. Parts of your focus stays fixed on your past, leaving you trained. You feel me? Like when you got all this emotional baggage going on, you got so much shit that you had to do than didn't do. Now you in this new environment, man. Y'all ass might you finna be right back to the old environment real fast. You feel me? Like the fix. Do an active off-boarding ritual. Write it down. What you leaving behind and what you are grateful for. What you are officially closing the door on. You feel me? Like some shit time to go, it's time to some shit done. It's through. This shit through. We ain't no more smoking going on. Ain't no more drinking going on. Ain't no more eating this going on. No more eating, whatever the you got to do. This shit got to be closed down. This shit was causing your health to be destroyed. There's no more this shit going on in this new environment. I'm not bringing this shit with me. Because if you do, man, you damn near ain't even moved. You damn near in the same situation, but worse. You feel me? So the mindset, man, you aren't just running away from something or sliding your horizontally into a new gig. You are intentionally ending one chapter so that the next one has room to breathe. You feel me? Like you really suffocating yourself when you just taking all the old shit with you. Everything got to Nah uh uh this got to No, I'm not letting this go. Some shit you gotta let go. Material items, clothes, people, it got to go. When you are what mentally prepping yourself up, see what's holding you back. If it's holding you back, it gotta go. You feel me? So close that loop on that what? Old environment. This is some shit. Let's get rid of some shit. Well, we talked about yesterday. I don't care if it's person, place, or thing. It got to go. You feel me? Like, number two is to separate who you were from who you are becoming. You feel me? Once you separate these two motherfuckers here, like I was here, my yeah, I used to do that. I used to fix phones. Oh, now I like to talk. Now I like to, you know, work out. Now I like to, you know, do a little, do a little this and a little that. You feel me? And there environments act as an anchor for our old habits and identities. If your old environment, people expect you to act a certain way, you are likely applied. A new environment is where blank slated. But if you aren't careful, you will automatically create old dynamics. You feel me? So you gotta be careful with this shit. You feel me? If you're not careful with that shit, you gonna be fixed into the nigga you are forever. Who trying to be like this forever? Because you changing either way. You're gonna change in this. So you know you're gonna be upset with yourself a long way down the road. You feel me? The fix define your identity intent before one day, write down the three traits you want to embody in the new space. Example boundary, proactive claim. You feel me? Like separate who you are to who you are becoming. Like get this shit right. Like the fix is man, define the intent. Before day one, write down three traits you want to, you know, embody. Like you want to be fit, you want to have money. You feel me? You want to be goddamn that person that's a leader, you need to act like it. Embody this shit, embody his traits. You feel me? Like all that old, nah, nigga, nah. We leading the pack. Period. You dig? Like the mindset, you don't have to carry an old reputation of the people's pleas and tendencies into the new space. You decide the baseline rules for how you show up in the morning. You feel me? Like, you you start this shit off right like nah. This is how I'm rocking. This is what's going on. You know, this how I like nigga, this is my new name. You feel me? Like, that's how you identify yourself. You don't you don't identify with that old you know, you dig you don't identify with that nigga that day. Oh, this nah. I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Understand me? Once you know what the fuck is going on, this is like this is my mind, and that's what was doing this shit. Nah, that ain't my name no more. I don't even want to hear that name no more. Understand me, like anticipate a cognitive overload dip. You feel me? Like, you want to stay in a dip where during the two to four weeks period, a new environment, everything requires conscious effort. Where I where I get water, where do I report to, where do the cultures um actually flow? This burns a massive amount of glucose, leading to intense decision fatigue, suddenly weighs an imposter syndrome. The fix lower the bar for everything else in your life during the one-month period. Pre-simple, pre-sample meals, automate your morning routine and protect your evenings with heavy rest. The mindset, expect to feel overwhelmed and slightly incompetent at first. It's not a sign that you made the wrong choice, it just attacks your brain pays to map out the new territory. That's it. You gotta like once I see what's really going on in here. Oh hell, I got danger. This shit ain't that big, but it ain't worth it for me to be blowing fucking rocks about every day. Nah. Nah. Once you done mapped out some shit, it's time to get out that bitch. Once you're not feeling it, you know how long it's gonna take you to get a promotion. Promotion gonna be five cents. You're gonna be pissed. Get your silly ass up out of there. Understand me? So, man, predetermine your boundaries, man. Like from day one, predetermined the day one rule, man. It is infinitely easier to maintain a boundary from the beginning than it is to establish one six months later. If you start saying about yes to everything, working late, or letting people cross you lines to be nice, you become the established baseline. They gonna run over that ass every day. Nigga, you've been working, you've been staying. What's what's the problem now? Oh, now they finna start working against your ass because now you done switched up. Come in that motherfucker saying I can't even work this, do what I need to do and go home, but I'm not doing all that extra ass shit. But you didn't, you didn't sign up for that shit by being a dude boy. Wanna be the one and wanna be the one that's being perfect. They gonna now they want that same routine from you because that's your baseline. When you in a new territory and you gotta get when you get in that mental prep, you gotta see, man, what's my baseline for this job here? Okay, I do this, I do that. You feel me? Because you gotta appear different to every job. You gotta appear different to them, man. Every person, because every person looking at different parts of you. Every person can peep game on you at you on a different level. You feel me? Now your color, your color, and your color gonna, oh, they know what you know. Uh about you feel me, like y'all gonna be around the same doing what y'all do. So establish which how you gonna become, how you gonna present yourself, and then like having your script together before I get there. I already know how this finna play out. Let me have my motherfucking script down pack. You feel me? Because boundaries aren't aggressive, they are a form of respect for your long-term productivity and mental clarity. Like niggas know that he's gonna work, but don't play with him. You feel me? This is gonna keep you clear and this gonna keep you positive at work because you ain't on no bullshit. Because you're not, you're not, you ain't coming there for that because you was already what mentally prepared for this bullshit. And this is all we gotta talk about every Friday. Prepare. Prepare Friday. Like Friday is the day I talk about preparing, and today y'all need to hear this shit. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Prepare at 9 p.m. the day before. Write that damn script down, write down the nightly routine, and get up and get to it, man. Man, y'all like, y'all comment, y'all subscribe, man. Leave a comment, it's it's hectic, man. Hope y'all having a good ass Friday, man. Y'all just get a little, man.
