What actually happens inside your head when you step away from screens for seven days?
In this episode, we take a deep dive into the neuroscience of The 7-Day Digital Detox Challenge. We map out the step-by-step neurochemical sequence that occurs the moment you disconnect—exploring dopamine withdrawal, stress hormone fluctuations, and the physical restoration of your focus networks.
Yo, it's your main man, Brahim, Bra CL man. Let's be honest, man. When was the last time that you were just genuinely bored? You dig? Like not just at the grocery store waiting in the line, boy, because you pulled your phone out. You feel me? Not on the couch, boy, because what you start trolling on TikTok. You dig you start watching TV. Not just chilling and youp wop pulling the phone out. You feel me? Like modern technologies has affected and eradicated our idle time. And our brains are paying the price of brain fog, right? Anxiety and fragment focus. Meaning that today we're gonna talk about a seven-day detox, a one-day detox, a two-day detox, whatever kind of detox you feel like. You feel me? But this whole week we finna talk about detoxing. Detoxing in every aspect. You dig? So I'm gonna break it down as I do, as usual, right? So today we're gonna talk about stop rejecting, like about rejecting technology and more about reclaiming our cognitive bandwidth. You dig? Like from the neuronuracle withdrawal of day one to the surge of day seven, right? Step by step I'm gonna break down how your brain adapts when you finally can disconnect from you know social media for a minute. So let's get straight into it, y'all. First thing we're gonna get into is phase one of this, right? Phase one of this thing is always like this the starting point. Let's get to starting one. Alright, day one. The newer chemistry. Baseline dopamine levels drop shortly as artificial micro rewards like notifications, likes, infinite scrolling are cut off. Our cortisol scratch, like that's our stress hormone, is temporarily spikes due to the information void. So this is basically saying, like, let me break this down into nigga terms, right? Like this is basically saying that first day, once you do this shit, it's like you neglecting yourself. You neglecting everything inside of you. You letting that shit just, what like everything is like, nigga, what are you doing? We are used to, you know, eating this. We are used to rolling and scrolling on this, but today we don't get to do it. Like, nigga, what the fuck is you doing? Like your brain is like your subconscious get upset with the conscious mind because the conscious mind is trying to reprogram the subconscious mind, right? So this is just making you scratch the fuck out. It's like motherfucking telling you you can't do something. And you used to this. You used to getting up and scrolling, you used to getting up and seeing likes, you feel me? And how I did this, I did it like seven years ago, but I just stayed, I just got off social media for like seven months. You dig? No social media. And that helped me get myself in touch with reality, like what what was really going on, you dig? Like this is my personal journey on like this detoxing from certain things. You dig everybody then detox, so this we're gonna talk about. I ain't just finna get into one type of detox, but today I'm talking about the main thing, like is the social media detox. You feel me? The phone detox. Always like I I really wish we could go back to the the house phone. You dig? All this I can constantly keep up with you all day. Shit, this shit is out of hand. It's cool and all, but it's out of hand. Like, god damn, people use it as a weapon, and this is what it's gonna be used as mainly. It's never gonna be used good for the prospect. If you ain't got no business and you on social media, you just like to be in people's business. That's it. That's it. Business, that shit should be only for purpose, like business purposes, period. Not to be connecting that shit for too many reasons, and it's on the it's on the user, you feel me? But they make it for the entertainment, it's they make it for the like it's I heard in what is it, Tokyo? It's way better for the kids, it's way better for the mind. Like, man, like bro, I try my best to you know follow the right shit. But anyway, man, this is all it's talking about, right? You are taking your brain the micro rewards away. Like, cause these ain't no real rewards. A like is not no fucking real reward. A notification is not no fucking real reward. You dig? Sitting there doom scrolling should not be something that, ooh, I just do this shit all day. This is my life. You think about walking with your head down. You're gonna bump into some shit. You feel me? You ain't that's why I think I like I don't know what gene, gene, whatever gene I am, like none of us like really out of our mom's house right now. You feel me? It's a lot of walking with our head down. We don't get to pick our head up. It's a lot of people living with their parents and shit like now. Like, it's a lot of that because what people are walking with their head down too damn long. Like, you gotta pick your fucking head up at one point. You gotta see what the fuck is really going on in your life. You gotta see where the fuck you going. You gotta have a one-year, five-year, ten-year plan. You need to see what the fuck is going on. Because if you're on that phone too much, oh, it's over with y'all. I I can see you now. You you do too much fantasizing. You feel me? I try my best to stay off that shit. Like, until I'm gonna get on and scroll, go through the same motherfucker. I hate Instagram like that. Like, just they just show you the same people till you get tired of them. I end up blocking people so much because I see them too much. I don't want to see that person every goddamn time I get on my timeline. Or every time I'm looking at stories, goddamn. I know that you try to keep in your favors, but I ain't. I don't know. It just it just me and social media, you feel me? I use it to try to use it as a tool and not as a weapon against yourself. It's like you keep shooting yourself in the face. You just always what looking at social media. You always thinking about social media, you always in your fucking phone. Like the majority of the day, I'm my phone in my hand, but um, I got all my notifications turned off on on everything. And somehow, Instagram still they'll get one in on me. Like, how the hell they get like I don't know. You feel me? I cut all my notifications off of everything that I know or come through off. Hate I miss the messages. I don't think I hate that I miss messages when people want their phone fixed right then and there. And I don't see it till like a day or two later because I don't check my messages every day. You dig? But if I had my notification, I would check it every day, all day, just checking my shit. Like, man, get the fuck off your phone, Raheem. If you ain't finna edit no video, if you ain't finna goddamn it post, get the fuck off the phone. Like, what the f like it was no purpose to be on here right now. None. You run this bitch lottie gagging. You dig? So once you experience that man on day one, you're gonna be better, right? And then this this day, like this day one and two, this is day three to four, right? The recalibration phase, right? This is the neurochemistry, dopamine receptors, D2 receptors begin unregulating, becoming more sensitive to Laura is uh is um intensity real-world stimuli. Melatonin production normalizes without even without evening blue light um interference, right? So what this saying is basically shit is changing, right? Like you are no longer um sensitive to uh uh some shit hitting your phone now. You done got over that part. You dig? Like it's saying now your melatonin back hicking in from the phone. It says, like, you know, your phone shoot out blue light as it goddamn it, you know, hit us in the face. Like this is blue light all day, not good for us. It says that this that that blue light it depresses us, it it it softens us. Like you feel me? It's fucking up our uh uh uh piano gland. Not that pin, y'all know what I'm trying to say. You know, you feel me? Uh third eye basically. That's what it's called. It's fucking up that, right? Like it's a it's a um case you can get that blocks that uh, oh not even block it, but help you. You feel me? Like decrease the blue light from hitting your face so much and protecting your eyes, right? It said the brain experience sleep quality and improves the like it improves dramatically, right? Cause your melatonin, like that ain't number sleep. That ain't number, you feel me? Like, you you know, you say like fruits got natural melatonin, people think they gotta take sleeping pills and shit. Man, you go outside and work out my my mind or go shit, eat you some uh some nuts and you feel them they got natural melatonin in them. So eating shit like that, you know, stop taking pills if you're taking pills. But let's get back on the subject, man. Just the having uh become so let me see. I'm breaking this down into y'all terms. You feel me? It's hard for me to break it down into my terms too, and the rec the recalibration phase. So it's basically saying everything is getting back to a new phase, right? So how you recalibrate a car. You dig, like, okay, I need my shit recalibrated. You recalibating your mind on the on the fix. You feel me? You no longer need this shit to be happy, you no longer need to see people um doing things, you feel me? That's no longer in your brain or your agenda. You dig like most of the day you people spend their whole day. They people skip to look at their phone because they be on their phone more than they be at work. You're on your phone eight hours. I say, Mom, come on, man, let's go to your um, see how um how long you've been on um social media. I don't want to see it. No, I don't want to. You feel me? Because you know, once you've been doing something too much, you know once you ran the fuck out. You don't even want to know how much you're doing. You're like a person who knows they're in a lot of debt. They don't want to know how much they got, too. How much debt they in. You feel me? Because they feel like they'll never it's overbearing to them. You feel me? It's the perspective that they got of it. So let's not recalibrate ourselves and keep wanting that fix from that phone. You feel me? Like, let me get to this natural, real dopamine, running, real enjoyment with family, you dig? Laughing. Like shit like this is real what recalibration. These these are reasons that you could just you know want to detox so you can get real rewards. You feel me? Now your brain, and you can feel this shit all day long. You dig? You're not getting this shit just an instant off of 15 seconds, laughing or this and that, like trying to keep finding that video, keep trying to find that thing and becoming depressed doing it. You feel me? Because you seeing shit that you can't do. You seeing things that you feel like you can't, you feel me? Like it's it's the it's the person, anyway, other remote control. So let's try to desensitize ourselves to that, right? The next phase is the last phase, the stabilized, the neurochemistry, prefrontal cortex, executive control, re-engages, overruling, automatic, and pulses loop, cortisol levels drop below the pre-detox baselines, shifting the nervous system towards the the um synthetic rest and digest, brain experience, deep focus rebounds, um, ambient anxiety settles, and um moodane reading conversations, walking, feeling naturally and rewarding, right? So now it's basically saying you got them, you you made it basically. Day five, day seven, you did five days, you can damn it can you can go a whole nother week basically with this shit saying. It just said the stabilization phase, now everything is stabilized. Now the motorback running and anything's like, but it's running different now. It ain't running off no social media, it's not running off how many people like your like, it's not running off who follow me. Like, some people got a real thing like that. Man, you on social media, open that page up. Open that bitch up. Because if a nigga wanna see what the fuck is going on in that private page, he gonna find a way to get in there. It ain't that motherfucking hard. Go down your list and see who he knows who you know. Man, that shit is easy. Like it's a lot of ways just to go find somebody. People like you, you you're not private if you're on social media. It's no such thing. Only these people that I would follow watch. Man, get your if they really want to watch your ass, they gonna watch you. So let's get out of that phase that I I feel like social media is a place where I can just vent and talk. No, you you do this. If you people like it enough, they'll repost this shit. They'll put it on this, they'll put it on it. You dig, and if you putting out that that dumb ass energy, man, that shit is felt through the screen. So let's get to the point where this we don't even um have to go off uh a social media post. We don't have to go off other like you know, fake likes. You dig? We don't just fake likes, you feel me? I I like a picture, don't mean I like it. You dig that mean I'm going along with with my what my mind got going on, right? So once I didn't deal digital detox, what I got less screen time, blue light reduction, reduce screen anxiety, you get better sleep, face-to-face interactions are way better now. You feel me? You got better relationships. Motherfuckers do not talk to people because what? They always in their phone. Like every time I go somewhere, I'm trying to put that bitch up, put that bitch up, put that bitch behind me, put it, flip it over on the face mainly. And I have that bitch on vibe, no vibrate, none of that. Like I only want to know that bitch ringing. Like, you get tired of a fucking phone. Like, damn. Like you when you do this, you increase your what productivity. Ever since I done gave know how to give myself that damn one hour a day of scrolling prior to not even nasty right here, how you gonna you gonna scroll a whole hour right here? But you ain't motherfucking read a whole hour. I be like, boys, this I be like, nigga, I'm addicted. I'm trying to get in, you feel me? But the more I get or get on my own ass, the better I get with not being on my phone. You feel me? Like that shit really decreased all productivity. You know you ain't getting shit done, you get on that phone. Motherfucker, I spent two hours scrolling.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_00Bitch, you ain't wanna do shit. You done got up three, four times and went pissed. You could have got up one of them last second time and just said, fuck it, I'm finna go and do what I gotta do. But you let your phone rule you though. You dig? And that's and this is what they want. The more I can get you to lack and lag, oh, I'm on your ass. You feel me? If I can get you lagging like a video game, if your phone starts lagging, guess what you do? Stop fucking with it. Get off of it. But guess what though? When you start lagging, you don't give a fuck. You feel me? You you make that shit a natural thing. You feel me? So let's get that shit off our baseline. You feel me? Like, let's improve our mental and physical health. You dig? Let's go do that. Let's go, let me go balance my life out. Let me go make sure some shit's straight out here for real. You dig? Like, fuck what it's looking like, man. Like what how it really is. Like, that's all I've been. Like, I ain't never been oh nah, nigga. Uh uh, uh-uh. This it's like this right now. I don't like how I'm living. This shit is not where it's at, my boy. You feel me? But it's cool, you feel me? This is what I gotta do to get it to a better place, man. You feel me? Like, that's how I'm gonna talk, that's how I always been. So know where you at it, man. Know your placement in life. Like, don't don't never down yourself and uh put yourself in a place where you ain't you ain't doing what you gotta do because you and your phone too damn much, man. Let's get that digital detox in your system. Like, let's let's get this shit where we I control this phone. I don't I get on my phone when I when I want to get on it. I read the message and don't reply because I want them, you know. Like you don't have to respond and reply to every damn thing going on in your phone at that moment. Like I'm the type of nigga, I'll sit down 10 o'clock at night, take your ass back. Shit. You feel me? Like, I just because I know I don't want to see you no bullshit. Uh I ain't I can't even be talking right now. I'm working right now. You feel me? Like, I use you can't just sit there and let your phone control every every time that bitch motherfucking, I gotta look at it. I gotta click on it. Man, I don't fuck that. I see all that shit later. And if I miss it, I missed it. You better, you should have called me, nigga. I don't like texting. Everybody know me. You know you better call me. You miss my birthday. Bitch, you text me out. We don't fuck I don't fuck with you. You better call me. You feel me? Cause that that makes it you texting me. This shit like a motherfucker on Instagram texting me. That shit ain't nothing. Nigga, I I wouldn't even know it was your birthday if I wouldn't scroll past it. You feel me? Like I wouldn't even know if it was your this and that. If I you feel me, like nah nigga call me and see what I'm on. You feel me? Like back in the day, you nigga had to let niggas know what's going on. Niggas expect because they post some shit on social media that you supposed to saw it, that you supposed to goddamn it says, Man, get the fuck out of here. You feel me? The real nigga, the real nigga ain't on it. The real nigga, the real nigga ain't on no social media. I know I bet ain't nigga really having his way ain't on he don't even think about that shit like that. I bet them niggas don't I they need to do a study. How much do people who are um millionaires be on their phone? You feel me? How much they be on their phone? Okay, what about the poor? You feel me? I bet millionaire doing an hour, a day or less, probably 30 minutes. Some people don't let certain shit cloud their mind. You feel me? Like old people, like they don't let shit, they they used to not be on the phone. They don't let shit get in their mind. Like, I'm I'm trying to get like them. I don't won't let shit even. I don't even want to see it. You try to degrade me and digress me on anything. I don't I don't I'm gonna block your ads. Like, we we beefing in real life, I'm gonna block your ads. You're not gonna get on my page and and this is where I come at for a little chill time and laugh. Nah, nah, nah, block. You feel me? So control your social media, man. I can go all day about this little subject, but we're gonna talk more about detoxing tomorrow. Tomorrow we're gonna talk about detoxing the real life versus what the regular. You feel me? So let's talk about it tomorrow, though, man. The day was a good conversation. Hope y'all having a good ass day. Hoping y'all prayed up, stayed up, man. Y'all stop playing your thing, y'all stop playing your life, man. I get it less. Go, man.
