Ever find yourself closing your laptop at 6 PM, only to spend the next four hours mentally rewriting emails, stressing over tomorrow’s to-do list, and feeling guilty for not being fully present? You aren't bad at relaxing—you're just missing a proper shutdown protocol.
In this episode, we unpack the psychology of the "work-to-rest transition" and build a personalized, structural bridge between high-output productivity and actual, restorative downtime.
Yo, it's your main man Rocking Rossiel, y'all. Every day, y'all, we have a hard time with just stopping. You feel me? I know people, if you like me, you have a hard time just saying, I need to stop. Like, I really got ADHD. I have to be doing something every hour. I have to be working. I have to be trying to better myself with every hour. It's something wrong with me, but I know it's it's a good something wrong with me. You feel me? Because I take it slow and I take it one day at a damn time, right? But sometimes I have those days where I just don't turn my brain off. You feel me? Like the hard part, like if your stress routine sneaks into your evenings, like you feel like, alright, nigga, I need a break. You dig like I just need a break. Nah, man. Today we're gonna talk about what I talked about yesterday. We're gonna talk about that system, man. That system. Like let's create a structural boundary on the work mode and rest mode. Like you can reclaim your evening if you got a damn structured life. You dig? Like some people don't got it even an evening. Because it's so hard for them to do other things, right? So let's get into why you don't have that evening. You feel me? Like the problem is like work is bleeding into your evening. You dig? Today we're gonna build a concept, right? Another concept. And this is the threshold compassionate hole, right? A mandatory time block. Every day you need a time to yourself. You feel me? You need time to allow your nervous system to reactivate. Go get some sunlight. Go look in the grass, just go look at nature. Give yourself some time. You dig? Like this is the Pacifics. Yesterday I just gave y'all, you know, just the overview. But this is the pacifics of this because this will allow your nervous system to shift from fight or flight to, you know, the rest and digestion. Like, nigga, it's time to rest. You feel me? Once you get into that rest mode, now your body is activating new neurons. Now you're thinking in your mind is moving at a different pace. Your heart is breathing at a different pace. You are relaxed now. You feel me? Because this is what call a mental shutoff. You're trying to shut that mental down. Cut that phone off, put that phone up if you got to. Like that's why I couldn't be no manager. And nobody else's business but mine. You're not finna be calling me about nobody else's problems all day. No, because this is this is stress, right? So let's get this mental shutdown process on point. You feel me? If you know that this is stress, I can't take it no more. Phone need to be off. You feel me? Because you are what? Oh mentally overloading yourself. You feel me? Like this part is the shutdown protocol. A standardized cons um sensual checklist executed at the end of your day of every workday. Right? Get you a checklist. Like someday you need a damn checklist. Like check off, like you ain't doing no long response. You just sorting through shit. You capturing all open loops in a single trusted task manager. Like you putting everything in one place and you previewing your schedule for you know your top priorities for the next day. Then you executing on your physical indications. Like you closing your laptop, you cleaning up and shit, getting the house clean before you go to bed. Like this is should be part of your routine if you thinking that you've got shit you finna be doing. If you know that you finna be doing something, you need to have it set up so you can do it. Like my homeboy, when I was in college, he can use to get his damn clothes ready the night before. But you know, I don't think I didn't iron my clothes. My shit was already, you know, I used this folded and it's put up. But he his routine was better because he's all his shit already ironed and already laid out. I'm finna think about what I was finna wear in the morning, but my shit is already laid out too. So it ain't laid out, but it's already, you know, organized. You dig? So just having that, you know, that uh short, just least decisions in the morning, it makes it better for you to move and think clearly, right? And putting it in in the nighttime, once you know you're finna shit down. Like let me let me make sure that like I I got tomorrow I pictures in my head what I want to wake up in the morning doing. And once you see that, you can you can um you can execute quicker. And number three is cognitive offloading. This is when the brain continually tracks unfinished tasks. I'm talking about this all the time. Like if some shit is not done, you got this idea on your brain all day about doing it. Your brain is is thinking about it even if you ain't thinking about it because it's an open loop and it's creating what? Stress. So once you're writing down your unsolved problem, the next action step is tomorrow start tricking the brain into recognizing their tasks as they safely stored so it can rest and release them. You dig? You trying to get your brain to know, look here, all right. We're finna put this down. I know I know what the problem is. You feel me? Like, once your brain knows what to do, it's it's gonna start solving it for you. It's gonna start putting you in situations so you can get that out of the way. So keep that in your face and keep that in your way. You dig? Like having that thing that you offload all your problems on. Put your problems on here. You put you where you want to be at, you put your problems, then you I mean, yeah, you put your problem, then you put your solution. It's three columns. Where you wanna be at, put your problems, and you put your solutions. Boom. You got it? Understood. Next step is y'all, we fucking with the context switching signals. Using a deliberate sensory to um cues to train the brain to recognize the transition out of the work mode. Right? So it's saying, I like I go out of the house, I take my shoes off, I know I'm outwork. I go take my uniform off, I'm off work. You feel me? You know how we do, we black folks, some motherfuckers, as soon as they get out the door, taking us the damn uniform off at the dough, taking their hat off at the dough. You dig taking their vests off at the dough, letting their brain know that hey, I'm through. Don't say nothing else to me about this shit. I'm I you feel me? It says example, changing audio work clothes immediately, switching um, switching the the lightning, turning off workspace equipment, or taking a short 10-minute walk before it's sitting down at the house. You dig? Like once you know you got them cues that tear your body looking. We know what time it is. I didn't take a shower. I wish a bitch would call me. I'm I ain't asked for nothing. You feel me? Like you gotta have those times, those cues that let you know that I'm through. I'm through. I'm through, I'm through, I'm through. Cut it off. Cut it off. I want no more. You feel me? Cut it off. You feel me? Like you gotta have that inside of you. If your body don't know when it's time to let go, or you got no physical, it you gonna stay with high side, you're gonna stay stressed out. Your hair gonna grow out because you because you got no cutoff time. You still be saying, oh hold on, let me do a little bit more. Hold on, let me read some more. Bro, I thought we were done reading for the day. Your body is stretched the fuck out, man, because it's doing something it don't want to do. You feel me? You stressing it out because you're making it do something. You feel me? So let's have this cutoff time, man. We're doing 12 hours today. I'm through. You feel me? We working at work today and we're giving ourselves two thirty, we're giving ourselves two hours and 30 minutes after work today. After that, we through. We can chill, we can watch TV. Like, you gotta give your brain some time to be happy and relax and not in just focus mode all day long. Like, you gotta live every day like it's your last for real. Like, get yourself some a little bit of everything, you know, a little bit of work, a little bit of exercise, a little bit of mental exercise. God damn it, give yourselves a little bit of um healthy food. Get a little some uh some unhealthy food, you dig? Yourself a little playtime, you dig? Like you just, and it's always it's it's it's really like that. You got that much time in the day, nigga. You ain't you got every 90 minutes you can be doing something different. Every 90 minutes you can be doing this, every hour you can be doing this, every 30 minutes you can be doing this. It's something you can do with this time. You feel me? Time is really money, you feel me? And it's how you spend it, it's really gonna depend on how you finna be at in the next three, four years, five years, right? So let me activate that. And then the last thing is not least is active active recurrence versus passive consumption. The concept differentiating between low engagement distraction like doom scrolling, passive TV, and intentional restoration like rest and reading and social connection, right? Once we got these moving, the purpose of this passive consumption often keeps stress hormones elevated. Whereas active recovery charges emotional and it what in um physical reserves. So it says the active active would be me, goddammit, uh just doing you know, just doing something I know is is good for my body, right? So knowing that I'm doing something intentional, okay. Okay, there we go. Intentional re uh restorative, restorative rest, right? Like movement, reading, and social connection. Like this is intentional. Okay, and it's saying versus me doom scrolling and passive TV, this is this is something that I'm doing, just keeping my hormones just damn through the roof. Like my body, like, you know how somebody don't know how to do something, they gotta do something. This is keeping my side high in the motherfucker. You feel me? It's keeping me like in, I gotta do something. Like, let me just play the game. You feel me? Like, you up seen motherfuckers that just do something too much every time they get distracted. They just wanna get in their phone. You feel me? They just wanna sit back and look at the TV for the whole fucking day. Because they know they got a lot of shit they gotta do. But a person who, you know, just organized and focused, they gonna, shit, let me go to the gym. You feel me? Let me go, let me read, let me finish reading this book. You did, or let me call, what's the name, catch up with it? You know, you know, that's why it's good to have these type of people and these type of habits that are just capable of moving you to a better position. Because once you once you a nigga who knows how to move and know what to do with your time, man, life is shit. It's long. Shit, you really it gets short when you ain't got nothing to do. When you was all working, no play, all work and and no, you know, just nothing. All working bills. You feel me? You just get to, or just you all working, you just get to look like you doing good. Like, nah, nigga. Mm-mm, T. You gotta start really doing good or really doing things that push the mo the um the momentum, like having a project or having something to complete. Like this keep you up, this keeps you going in life, man. This keep you wanting to do something. So let's get into that that therapy. You dig? So once I so from now on, when I shut down, let me make sure I'm setting up my next day to be the best day. You feel me? From now on, when I do something, let me make sure I'm I'm doing it because I want to intentionally. Now let me say I worked out at work today. Nah, nigga, you ain't worked out after work. It wasn't intentional. You weren't working all your muscles. You weren't trying to work every motherfucking glute, every muscle in your body. You was just at work moving. You dig? Let's get out working and get some real movement in, man. Let's get out working and do some real things so we can come back, we can be changed, we can want to be the manager, we can want to go upgrade our career, we can want to do something better. But as long as we sitting here being content and not wanting the next thing to be better, it won't be better. We want the next thing just to surprise us, oh, it's gonna surprise us. It's gonna take us right to where the damn corporate manager allows this shit to go to. Like, or where the damn CEO wanted this shit to go. Like, whoever ran this the game, that's where you're going to. So run your own pace and run your own space, man. Like, make sure that when you get off work, you got that system that that nobody can stop. You got that system that that make you happy. You feel me? You got that system that's gonna pull you from places that you don't want to be in. And that's the main thing of life, man. Y'all stop playing with our time, y'all stop playing with your life, man. If it was any kind of way, man, y'all like, y'all comment, y'all subscribe, let's get a let's go.
