A ceasefire can sound like a distant headline until you feel it at the gas pump. We start with the tense situation around President Trump and Iran after a recent two-week ceasefire, and why “temporarily calm” still keeps the world on edge. I break down what diplomatic pressure and strategic positioning really mean in plain language, plus why routes like the Straits of Hormuz matter for global stability.

Then we connect those global moves to real-life Texas consequences: energy prices, supply chain disruptions, and the way higher fuel costs can creep into your grocery bill. If you’ve wondered how something happening halfway across the world can hit your wallet in Crossroads, Texas, we walk through the logic without the panic and without the jargon.

From there, we bring the spotlight home with local news and community events you can actually act on. We celebrate the Crossroads Police Department Citizens Police Academy graduates and explain why the program changes how you see public safety, transparency, and community engagement. We also preview the Crossroads Market kickoff, share updates on Denton ISD’s fifth high school construction on Naylor Road with its major campus features and safety focus, and point you toward a fun night out at Pilot Point’s Starbright Center for the Arts with classic movies, shows, and auditions.

Trump Iran Ceasefire And Tensions

How Global Events Hit Texas

Sponsor Spot And Santa Booking

Steven Killfoil

Good morning, Cross Roads. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Cross Roads Podcast News and Announcements. I'm your host, Steven Killfoil, coming to you from the Kitchen Corner Healthy Cooking, LLC studio in the beautiful town of Cross Roads, Texas, where the traffic is light and the people are friendly, and the biggest instrumental crisis we usually deal with is running out of sweet tea. But today we're going to go a little bigger. We're going global. Then we're bringing it right back home because nobody covers world events and local farmers markets quite like we do. Yeah. All right, folks, let's talk about what's going on globally. Specifically, the situation involving President Trump and Iran following the recent two-week ceasefire, where we were bombing the living daylights out of Iran. Ceasefires are kind of like when two kids get sent to the rooms and told to cool off. The question is always, are they actually cooling off or just plotting round two? Right now, the focus has been on diplomatic pressure, monitoring compliance, and strategic positioning. I mean, let's face it, for 57 years, these this regime has tortured their people something unmercifully. So the people want to change. We need a change. They need to open up the Straits of Hormouth. Things needs to get back to the way it used to be. The US approach has centered on keeping tensions from escalating while maintaining leverage. Basically walking that fine line between let's talk and don't test us is kind of like trying to negotiate bedtime with a toddler. You want peace, but you are also ready if things go sideways. All right. The big takeaway here, the world is watching closely. And while things are temporarily calm, it's one of those situations where everyone's still holding their breath. We want a ceasefire status to continue and move on and things get back to normal. But you all know that that takes a while. Now, you might be wondering, Steven, how does something happening halfway across the world affect me here in Texas? That's a great question. Here's how. Energy prices, supply chains, national security posture. Hey, have you looked at the gas pump lately? It's been getting kind of high, huh? Yeah, yeah. And the price of groceries and other things are affected by this, also. So, yes, what happens overseas can absolutely impact your wallet, your gas tank, and even your grocery bill. Which is why staying informed matters, even if you're just trying to decide between brisket or ribs this weekend. This portion of the show is brought to you by our incredible sponsors. Now let's bring it home to Cross Roads, Texas, because this is where the real heart of the community is. A big congratulations to the Cross Roads Police Department Citizens Police Academy. Class number two graduates. Yay! Mady and I both attended this, and let me tell you, it was worth it. The best eight weeks we ever spent. The next one comes up, you must enroll. The program gives residents a behind the scenes look at how law enforcement operates everything from procedures to community safety. Everyone should enroll in the Citizens Police Academy to become more educated and aware of exactly what our amazing men and women in blue have to do in order to keep our community safe. And let me tell you, after going through something like that, you don't just watch crime shows the same way anymore. You'll start yelling at the TV things like that's not proper protocol, and that is definitely not able. So community engagement is very important with your local police force. Transparency and law enforcement. Hey, next time you see one of the officers in Walmart or at the grocery store, pat them on the back, thank them for a great job, thank them for their service. They are wonderful people. They'd love talking to you. But get in the program, get in the academy, get to know them better. I tell you what, it is very much worth it. Programs like this build stronger communities, and that's something worth celebrating. For more information on how you can participate in a Citizens Police Academy, go to the website www crossroads tx.gov forward slash two nine three forward slash citizen dash police dash academy. Stay connected with town events on the website. It is very much well worth it. All right, folks, let's get ready. Summers around the corner, and guess what that means? The Cross Roads Market. Yes, that is right. It is coming up the first Saturday in May. Dun Farmin is gonna be there with their amazing produce and many vendors, local, fresh produce, handmade goods, community vibes. Basically, it's where your wallet goes to say, I came for vegetables, and left with candles, salsa, and a wooden sign that says live, laugh, and love. All right. Support your local businesses, bring your family and friends, make it a monthly tradition. Every weekend, starting in May, that Saturday market is well worth it. You gotta come out and see it. It's a lot of fun. Events like this are what makes small towns special. So get out there and support your neighbors. In case you haven't noticed, but there is a huge building going up on Naylor Road, Denton ISD's fifth high school and is in Cross Roads, Texas, and it's under active construction for planned August 2027 opening. As of early 2026, this started. This project has moved past the initial site clearing with major structural framing, foundation work, and storm shelter construction underway. While the district focuses on enhancing campus safety and integrating community spaces, some of the key progress and details under the construction status, work is ongoing on structural steel and the main building slab. Utility relocations and groundwork for parking areas and fire lanes have also begun. Design and features. The site will feature a three-story academic wing, a professional level performing arts center with a 750-seat theater. Ooh, yeah. And a 2100-seat competition gym and extensive outdoor athletic facilities. Focus on safety. Design focused on safe access with the campus set back from the high traffic areas and featuring modern safety protocols for the students. The infrastructure and improvements, the town is developing an east-west connector road to facilitate access to the new school. The timeline? The project is part of a multi-year construction plan aimed at opening in time for the 2027-2028 school year. The project, which also includes a community garden, aligns with the Town of Cross Roads Vision 2035 plan for regional development. We're also going to have our own town square. Yes, folks, it is coming finally. Those of you that remember going to all those meetings and all the development that was going on, and then it crashed and burned and went away, not now. It's coming. It's being built as we speak. Thank you, Lord. Our prayers have been answered and the Vision 2035 plan is opening up and coming to fruition. Absolutely.
