Have you ever felt absolutely unhinged only to realize your period was starting in a few days? Or have you felt so put together and on top of the world that you could literally be the CEO at your job? Only to have that feeling fizzle and shift into impatience, cynicism, and self-critique? The answer is that all of these are normal to cycle through during one month as a WOMAN, and we will explore that a little deeper in this episode.

Hello everyone and welcome back to the stellar cycles podcast, your hot girl database for all the things that we wish we were taught, but get to learn together now, everything pertaining to your femininity, your cycle and wellness and your walk in life as a woman. I'm your host Alina and today we're going to be talking about how it's possible for us women to have multiple personalities during one month. So the goal of today's episode is for us to learn a little bit more about why this happens to us how to best utilize each personality and how to make each week and Phase work best for you. Have you ever felt absolutely unhinged, only to realize your period was starting in a few days? Or have you ever felt so put together and on top of the world that you could literally be the CEO at your job only to have that feeling fizzle and shift into impatience, cynicism, self critique? While the answer is that all of these are normal to cycle through during one month as a woman, and we will explore that a little deeper in this episode. First, let's get into some current updates on my life at this point in time I am right now. luteal phase day 27. So you guys know that means that my cycle is probably going to restart sometime soon. To be quite truthful with you guys, I haven't felt the best about myself. And we know that to be true during that final week before your period starts that your self esteem is at its lowest point, and you might be a little harsher on yourself than you normally are at other parts of the month. So I've been going through it Not gonna lie, but the only remedy is action and taking aligned action with things that I want to see in my life. So that's where we're at. Last weekend, I had an amazing opportunity to be part of a woman's empowerment fundraiser event, my friend Susanna put it on, and the mayor of the city came, there were quite a few amazing panel speakers business woman who kind of shared what they've had to overcome in their life and what kind of advice they would give for others. And all of this was for us to raise money for Sister League, which is a woman's shelter here in downtown San Diego. And we ended up raising over $7,000 in that one little afternoon for them. And it just feels great knowing that you know, you can come together with other like minded women meet them, get to know them hear their stories, and at the same time raise a pretty significant amount of money that's going to go towards helping get women off the streets, get them into a safe place, help them get away from their abuser or help them work through their problems with their addictions or mental illness. So this was a very touching event. And the more than I've take part in these, the more I want to do event planning. So maybe who knows that might be something that pops out over this spring and summer. Another thing that kind of goes along with the luteal phase vibes is I still at the big age of 26, I still find myself forcing me to do things that I hate or be in situations that make me feel bad about myself, it's very embarrassing to admit because I think when you're in your 20s you feel like you're in control of your life and you're in control of your choices. But at the end of the day, it does kind of seem like these are the trial years where either you figure out how to be a person who does what's good for them what they need to do, like stay on their own path and their own route or you just kind of get pulled along with everything else. So I've been thinking about that a lot and just wanting to pay more attention to people situations, scenarios, places that make me feel icky to be there and just simply not returning to those people situations scenarios and places so finally for my updates I am fully trusting that God will bring about the resources that I need to take this podcast to the next level you guys know I've been doing audio for over a year now and video is really what helps podcasts grow but there is quite a difference between you know just recording audio and recording video I have a fear that I might not be myself on video or like because you know, you know you're being perceived, you know, you're being filmed like there's a little bit of acting involved, but at the same time you can't knock it till you try it and I am really hoping that God will open away and make it work for me to be able to get into studio and do video for y'all. Okay, let's get into our conversation for this week. So we are going to be talking about the four phases again of the monthly cycle, but this time kind of under the umbrella of there's going to be like a different personality, a different kind of woman assigned added to each of these phases. So hopefully that's easier makes it easy for you guys to remember. But first, I always love to make the clarification between a cycle and a period. I think for the most of us, we have a heard cycle being a reference to the actual period part right of the month where you're actively bleeding. So like, you'll hear girls say, Oh, I'm on my cycle right now. Well, not just right now you're not you're on your cycle all the time, like the earth cycles around the Sun nonstop. But there's certain phases that the Earth goes through like fall, winter, spring and summer. And just like that, so do we. So a cycle, it's an ongoing process throughout your month, which has four phases and the four phases that I always talk about on this show is the menstrual phase where you're bleeding, the follicular phase that comes right after your period, the IV LaTorre phase which is like the Super Bowl, mid cycle, high point of your month, and then the luteal phase which apart from the menstrual phase can suck pretty badly for most people. And the luteal phase is also known popularly as he ms right premenstrual syndrome premenstrual time because it happens before your period. Ladies, why do I do this podcast? Why is it so important to know of and align with your four phases? Well, it can really become a blueprint for organizing your life, it can help you when you're feeling lost, disorganized, directionless, you know, trying to live in this world that's really set up for men and their hormones. But when you learn about your four phases, and you learn how to sync that with different times, and parts of your life, different activities, different foods, it can really start to flow like it just feels like you're not fighting uphill anymore. So can this work for everyone? No, well, if you're a woman, you essentially have the same functioning hormone system. So while your results might vary, depending on your personal symptoms, any woman is really able to harness the predictable cyclical nature of her hormones to begin working to repair them. So yes, even if you are on birth control, and your natural hormonal action is being suppressed, you can still work on this because patterns are everything getting into a regular pattern, and being able to notice various things and keep track of them is what's going to help you so much. So our first personality is the old lady and the old lady represents the menstrual phase, menstrual phase can last anywhere from three to seven days, the first day that you bleed is cycle day one, your cycle always restarts when you have your period. The menstrual phase, as we've talked about before, is kind of like the winter phase of your cycle. Winter it's kind of that last season before the rebirth of spring and for many of us, winter goes how the rest of the year went before that right so depending on how you treated yourself during your whole entire cycle that whole month, you can either be the grouchy and pained old woman or the sprightly retiree that's loving her life staying active getting out there traveling but again this all depends on how you are treating your body that entire cycle. So in your body you can see of course during your period dark red spotting or red blood you're gonna most likely experience pelvic cramping. I don't know many people who don't there can be lower back pain you can be fatigued and of course cravings too when it comes to your plans and kind of what you're vibing with during the menstrual phase and during like the old lady phase there's a lot of propensity for self analysis and course correction This is because right now during your period this connection between your left and right brain is the strongest so you can really fairly evaluate how are you doing in life where do you need to make changes there's a very clear intuition because of the mind gut connection at this time. So you can take a look at this and take some time during your period to journal on which areas of your life need more attention you will get very clear messages on this around this time. So apply the solutions you come up with now during those later phases of the cycle. So anything that you kind of decide on when you're journaling when you're reaching down into yourself kind of analyzing okay, like how did I do this past cycle right what was missing you don't have to apply those solutions immediately. You just need to kind of get to the root of it then when you have more energy and more drive it'll be the best time to apply these changes. Why I chose the old lady for the menstrual phase is because old women tend to have a very good discernment and sense of judgment as well as wisdom just simply from their time being on this earth and you know potentially going through relationships marriages, childbirth loss, you know, so definitely chose you into a very wise Being so tap into this specific superpower during your menstrual phase the elder right. When it comes to your diet, it's important to remember that when your body is eliminating that uterine lining, it's a very intense process. Over the course of the month, there's been blood vessels that have been building up in your uterus in order to potentially house and feed a growing fetus. Now, when your period comes and your body understands that you don't need that lining anymore, 30 to 40% of your energy is taken to get that out. So that's why we feel so tired when we're on our periods. You want to focus on eating foods that replenish your nutrients. So things like seafood and sea based veggies really are going to help remineralize your body with iron with zinc, which, of course, we lose those minerals and electrolytes when we're bleeding. The menstrual phase foods, which you can find in the grocery guide, in my bio, they're very deeply restorative for your blood and your kidneys. So you're also going to be probably reaching for very comforting foods, but comforting in a healthy way, hopefully, soups, stews, very grounding, kind of comfort foods. And like I said, you can get the grocery guide and start dipping your toe into this phasic way of eating, I will tell you, it has changed my life. And I have entire episodes dedicated to each phase. And we go so much deeper into what you should be eating during each phase and also good ideas. When it comes to your activity. Of course, you already know that like you're like what activity I'm not going to be doing much on my period. And that's right rest and recovery is very vital for you to be able to repair, replenish and restore your body. Now, during the early part of your period, we're talking like day one through three, when you're really feeling in the thick of it, get some rest, you can do some yen yoga, which is the less intensity kind of yoga, it's very slow, very nourishing, very focused on the hips. And you might also want to take walks, you know, if you don't do anything else, just get outside for a 15 minute walk and you will feel mentally better. And that's not super strenuous on your body. During this time of the menstrual phase, you want to really focus on your hips. So think about how easily elder women break their hips, right. So it's important to take care of your hips, take care of your bone density take care of your mobility, a lot of the discomfort and disease that Western women suffer through is based on the fact that there's a lot of stagnation in our hips, we don't dance, we don't move, we don't get any of our trauma out of our pelvis or our hips. So that's something you could be focusing on with yin yoga, especially for the final part of your period, you know, you might be kind of back to it so you can get a little more active once your energy is coming back once you feel like you're not having to go overboard and taxing your body extra heavy to get that exercise. Okay, we're gonna move into our second personality. Right after our menstrual phase, we have our follicular phase. So this is that week once you're done with your period. The second personality here is a young, energetic, curious, fun loving girl. In the follicular phase, the follicles which are those little sacs that contain your eggs within your ovaries, they start swelling, and they swell because they need to grow the eggs when we're born with all of our eggs, they're not matured yet. When we hit puberty, they start maturing every single month and one comes out at ovulation normally every month. So our body has to send hormones and send a message to our ovaries to be like, okay, periods over, we're gonna get ready for a new cycle. Hopefully we get pregnant this time. So let's start growing those eggs with how you're going to be feeling. The reason I picked the little girl curious, energetic fun is because in this phase, you're busting out of your cocoon. You haven't been weighed down by the world yet. Your energy levels are rising. You're curious about new things, new friends, new experiences, and are very open minded like a child. When it comes to your hormones. Your brain sends the hormone FSH to your ovaries, which is follicle stimulating hormone. It's like a food for those eggs. It gets them big and juicy and ready. So your follicles are starting to swell. And at the same time, your estrogen is being made by the ovaries because of those growing follicles those growing eggs and estrogen When it restarts after our cycle. It makes us feel very good. It gives us stamina, it gives us energy and of course it's not at its peak quite yet but it's starting to build and it's building your uterine lining. So in your body, you're going to feel an energy increase. You might feel restless to like you know like a little kid you have so much energy that you don't know what to do with it. You just want to do everything. At this point you might be seeing a whitish yellowish discharge, but not not too much. Now, when it comes to your plans and your social life, you have the energy for creative and stimulating projects. This is a time when you want to spend brainstorming, coming up with new ideas and make sure that you save the most challenging assignments for this week. Don't try to get into anything too crazy or demanding when you're on your period, because your main responsibility is to help your body get through it without putting more stress on it. Now, the week after your period, the follicular phase, you now have time for those challenging assignments because it is actually easier for your brain to problem solve. How cool is this? We are equipped every single week of the month to do something different menstrual phase, you're going more introspective, you're looking at like, Okay, let's do an evaluation. What didn't work? Where did I fail? Where do I feel like I failed? What could I be doing better? Now the next week, you have a chance to do something about that. Your physical energy is at one of its highest points here, you are going to feel outgoing, upbeat, revitalized, you're going to want to say yes to all the plans. And you are going to be open to new experiences and new things. So if there's something that you wanted to implement that you came up with during your menstrual phase reflections and evaluations, this is the time I don't know what it is about our hormones and our brain during the follicular phase. But it's actually easier for us to implement new things. So whenever I want to try something new, or try a new workout routine, or try a new process or system in my life, I usually save it for the week after my period because I know I have better success rate at making that thing happen making it stick. I'm telling you guys, these are hacks for real. When it comes to your diet during the follicular phase, you have now moved out of the soups and the stews, you're eating fresh, vibrant, lively foods that give you lots of energy here. While your hormones are still relatively low. They're rising, but they're not at their peak yet. We're thinking pressed salads, lean protein, sprouted beans and seeds, energy sustaining grains. I always highlight this part. But carbs are not your enemy during this follicular phase right after you've gone through your period, you're going to be putting your energy into a lot of things you're going to be running around, you're going to be doing more strenuous activity and exercise and you're going to want to do it but you have to sustain your body too. So carbs are your friend. This is a case by case scenario. Some people are gluten sensitive or celiac. So you know, you need to pick out the carbs that work for you. But absolutely don't shy away from them at this phase because your body will take that and it will utilize it. Cook food pretty light. So we're thinking, steaming or thinking soft Tang if you really need to cook but we're not necessarily baking or stewing or making soups or anything like that. We're making pretty light easy meals like wraps or spring rolls. Foods in the follicular phase are really going to help you prepare for that next phase. Avocados are really great for this transition. Avocados are good fats. So they're gonna help in making everything in your body a smoother process your elimination, you're gonna go to the bathroom a little easier, you are going to feel wetter down there, your cervical mucus is going to increase to you and kind of help do its job during its regulatory stage. Your activity levels, this is the time to try new exercises or workout routines. So it could be trying a new class at your gym or even trying a new gym altogether. Or maybe you're curious about wanting to do a cold plunge. And if you've never done that before, this is the time to do it, girl. It's easy at this time to put the brain and the body into a new or a stimulating place. Okay, it's not going to necessarily rub you the wrong way like it would the week before your period right. Oh my gosh, when I'm in my luteal phase like right now I get so easily overstimulated, which shoots my cortisol up which literally makes me feel like I'm about to fight someone or have to run away so you're after a period phase is definitely the best one to do new stimulating things. Our brain can form new neural connections which makes going out of our comfort zone easier not as scary you know, you want to learn something new. You want to try something different new activities that are done at this follicular phase time they are more likely to stick. I'm just so excited. I can't wait to like start my period in a few days and just be done with all this wallowing and self deprecating I've been doing which which I know is part of the luteal phase, which does make it easier because if I didn't know that I would just I would just be so hard on myself and just feel like I'm failing at everything I'm doing. But like, that's not true. That's just your brain playing tricks on you. It's like the conspiracy theories that your brain has about you. They're not true. Alright guys, so we've now gone through our menstrual phase or period talked about our follicular phase, that kind of freshness after you have your period. And now we're going into the Avila Tory phase. This is mid cycle. And the personality that I picked for this one is the woman at her reproductive age, the most sexy and desirable as society sees it and biology to your full of confidence and you know exactly how to get your way. So think of this as like a supermodel. In the IV LaTorre phase. This is kind of like few days before, during and shortly after you ovulate or release an egg from your ovaries. So these little eggs that have been growing since the follicular phase, they've been getting their food and hormone form, one of them is now ready, hopefully to pop out of the ovary and make itself available to be fertilized. If sperm are in the picture. This lasts about three to four days duration, some apps will make the ovulatory phase its own week, but you can look at it however you want. If it makes it easier for you to break everything down into four weeks to get the hang of it do that. So what's going on with your hormones during the ambulatory phase when you're feeling sexy, capable, desirable? Well, estrogen is still going to be rising, it's preparing that uterine lining just in case there is a baby. There is also a sharp uptick in follicular stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone and these two together make the egg pop out of its follicle which is the event of ovulation. Now, if this egg gets fertilized, it should travel through the fallopian tubes, which are the tubes that connect your ovary to your uterus, into the uterus where it should implant. Women also experienced testosterone, we have that as part of our hormonal cycle. Of course, not as much as men, but we do have some of it, testosterone does a quick little surge, it actually makes you want to have sex during your body's Prime Time to get pregnant, and then kind of drops off after ovulation, which is why a lot of the time when we have ovulated, you can feel a bit tired and just not as motivated, lose some of your drive. And that's just because testosterones primary role was to get you to feel confident and want to have sex so that your body can biologically do its job. Now what's going on with your body will something super interesting. And the reason why I picked the sexy supermodel for this phase is because nature actually shifts around like your body shifts to make you hotter to make sure you get attention, things like your eyes will get brighter, your face will actually look better during your eyelid Tory phase than at any other phase, your hips also kind of widen and kind of draw more attention towards you, your skin looks great for most of the time. Of course, this is different case to case. But this is just the commonalities that have been found of the ambulatory phase. And now at this point, your vaginal discharge will change from that white creamy consistency to clear and slippery. So think like an egg white. Like if you can stretch an egg white, and it's going to increase so there's just going to be more discharge. After that peak day of your cycle after the peak of your ovulation, the vaginal discharge kind of starts drying, it doesn't stay that way for a very long time. Some of you girls, you may actually feel a tinge of pelvic pain either on one or the other side of your pelvis when your egg gets released. So this is actually called middle shards. And I learned about this in ultrasound school and there have been times where I have felt it and there's been times where I didn't feel it at all. And what's interesting is the ovaries will usually alternate. During this time, you could feel either a surge of energy or a sense of depletion both are normal. So what are you going to be doing with your plans think what would a supermodel be doing? She's a social butterfly, right? She is wanted at all the parties at all the events at all the openings. So think of yourself during this time as connecting deeply with your community and it's time to have important conversations because you have the gift of communication on point here during your ovulation studies have shown that women are much better communicators when they are in their Abila Tory phase. This makes you a lot more receptive to others. You can ask for a race or ask for a promotion or really kind of send out that thing that you really want to accomplish and you really want to do so this is also a great time to go on a first date. Of course don't have sex for Don't want to get pregnant. But you you're just way much more open to riskier things and riskier activities because of that testosterone surge. It's almost like we get to experience a little bit of what it's like to be as confident as a man during during this one ovulatory phase is your diet going to be changing much? Well, because you have lots of natural energy and a stable mood, thanks to the estrogen, you're gonna limit the intake of carbs. Last week, you were eating more carbs, because you really needed them to uphold and upkeep the amount of energy that you're expanding. Now you're gonna be going to lighter grains like corn, quinoa, amaranth, you're going to also find yourself loading up on veggies and fruits that will help metabolize and eliminate the surplus of estrogen. Most of our feminine reproductive problems are directly caused by too much estrogen in our bodies. How does this happen? Well, estrogen is something that's continuously made in your body, month after month after month, and it doesn't really have a way to exit on its own. When all things like hormones and toxins even sometimes they keep recirculating in our blood, they can really cause problems for our bodies, eating crunchy foods, eating vegetables, eating fruits, all of that is going to help pick up all of that excess estrogen that's circulating around in your body, maybe causing some issues causing you discomfort, pelvic cramping, heavy bleeding, sore breasts, the veggies and the fruits will sweep that estrogen up because it can bind to it and when you eliminate your waist, the estrogen will go with it. For more ambulatory foods you can check out the grocery guide I think summer foods right because the IV LaTorre phase is kind of like the summer phase menstrual phase was winter follicular phase was Spring ovulate Tory phases summer, it's when you're feeling the most fun, the most outgoing, the most confident, probably the most beautiful too because of all the sunlight and all the outdoor time you're getting you're dressing differently than you were in the winter where you just wanted to cover yourself and be comfortable. You're going to be thinking about summer food, think egg plant think bell peppers, persimmon, I don't have persimmons or summer food, strawberries, cherries, such good things. When it comes to avi LaTorre foods, these are all about promoting that blood flow and antioxidants to the ovaries so that you can make the healthiest egg possible. And we're still doing lighter food preparation pretty fresh, easy, nothing too heavily cooked. When it comes to your physical activity and your exercise. This is going to be the best time for high impact and group setting exercises. Your energy levels are maxed here, you're going to be hitting your best stats, you're going to be doing the best at weightlifting, plyometrics running, it's also a really good time for classes that will connect you with other people because you're not going to be feeling as self conscious, you're going to be a lot more open to putting yourself out there and making new friends learning some new moves. So really good things to do during your Avila Tory phase. Remember, you're a supermodel you can do literally anything during this phase, a sharp detour. You know that part of the month when you feel the worst that week before your period when you're the postmenopausal woman you're uncomfortable, your body and energies declining, you might have a very short fuse and a tunnel vision only for what's the most important. How you treat yourself here though is very important because that's how your menstrual phase your winter your old yours will go. You guys might have been hearing this seeing this all over social media the luteal phase, again, that's that PMS week where it's everything's just the worst. What's going on with your hormones while your body starts pumping out progesterone and progesterone. Its main job is to keep your uterine lining intact, keep it from bleeding too soon, just in case that there is a fertilized egg and it's going to implant in there. At this point your estrogen is still rising. That's why it's so important to make sure to get the estrogen out of your body because while it makes you feel great in the first half of your cycle during follicular Abila Tory phase, but then too much of it still circulating and you might feel those really unpleasant symptoms like bloating, fatigue, tiredness breast soreness. Progesterone is also really important for mood balancing and for your ability to handle stress. Well, when we go on birth control or when we take hormones that mess with our natural hormone process. We actually get cut off from our progesterone which is really really sad because if you've ever been on birth control you know how it feels to be like crazy and to feel like every little thing is a life or death situation. And that's because you don't have access to your progesterone. Progesterone is also really great for your hair, your skin, your nails, all these things that make women look and feel beautiful. Progesterone, of course, with all the other hormones will start kind of dropping off towards the end of this phase, which ultimately leads to the menstrual cycle restarting testosterone might increase during this phase, which could lead to an increase in premenstrual acne, I definitely deal with that myself quite a lot. It's something I'm still working on. Of course, it's not as bad as last year, but it's still a journey that I'm on for me more. So now is how am I going to get rid of these scars? These scars are not fun. I never thought I'd have them. But it's okay. I'll figure it out. This is also really interesting, because as women get older, and as they move into their menopausal stage, their estrogen declines and their testosterone increases, which is really interesting. I actually didn't think about that until now. But that kind of makes a little more sense why I chose the the menopausal woman for this final stage. In your body, you're gonna feel pretty gradual but noticeable energy decrease. So maybe after ovulation, you might feel a little depleted. But for like a few days, you still feel like you can do things pretty well. But then once you're a week away from your period, that's really where it sets in. And you might experience the PMS symptoms that many of us are familiar with like bloating, irritability, headache, mood swings, cravings. When it comes to your plans and your socialization, awareness, attention and comfort are key during this phase, because your energy is going to soften it's going to turn inward, you're not really going to care as much about what everyone is doing. What are the social events, what is everyone going to you are going to want to nest and this is ideal time for domestic chores. You want to really complete your task to do list all you care about at this time is literally like I said, tunnel vision, you only want to do what you want to do take care of it cross things off your list. The reason for this is because the estrogen to progesterone ratio really makes you notice what you didn't before your mind was just on other places, maybe solving problems, learning new things, making new friends having difficult conversations. Now, like I said, every week, we have an opportunity to do something different and attend to a different area of our lives. At this point. It's an ideal time for administrative work, just really getting down to the bone and doing what you need to do. Another thing you're going to feel like doing is nesting on an internal level which of course we love, self care. It's a great time to go to a spa get a massage kind of help balance those emotions and maybe discomfort that you might feel during your luteal phase. And of course you're going to be slowing down on social engagements during this phase and it's going to prevent you from feeling needlessly exhausted because if you're trying to attend things and do things at the same level as like when your cycle was fresh and on your your gas tank was full of fuel you're going to be so upset with yourself that you can't perform at that same level but understand that that's completely okay. When it comes to your diet. Let's think harvest foods right because the luteal phase again reminder menstrual phase winter follicular phase, spring ovulatory phase summer and luteal phase autumn fall nature makes it so easy for us just think Fall Harvest D foods. These are going to be foods that are rich and B vitamins, calcium, magnesium fiber, B vitamins are really going to help you stave off sugar cravings and help you keep up your progesterone production that helps you deal better with stress handle things better and like leafy greens will really help deal with water retention. So if you're feeling bloated, definitely keep up with eating your kale your arugula as whatever kind of leafy greens you like. Fiber is going to be super huge during this time. Okay, so going back to elimination this is going to help flush out all of the excess estrogen in the body during this time since you've been making it the whole cycle up until now and it needs to exit. If you are a girl who has sugar cravings during the PMs phase roasted or baked veggies will help you very much you can pour pasta amik on them you can even does to cinnamon on them. I put cinnamon and balsalmic on my roasted sweet potatoes and it's so good so good. When you're eating complex carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, it's going to lead to more dopamine and serotonin which are your happiness chemicals and it's going to help prevent your mood swings. When it comes to your activity, that first part of the luteal phase right after your ovulation, you might have enough energy to continue your regular workouts, but your body will tell you and you will notice that you want to scale down the intensity at least five days before your period, you're gonna want to switch to walking, maybe some Pilates, vinyasa yoga, I also really recommend if you live somewhere that has a pool or you have access to a pool, swimming, does something for you that week before your period, it really, really does. So take advantage if you have that. I understand that during this phase, especially for me, you might have excuses or talk yourself out of working out or moving.
