Using Horror to Explore Painful History with Maria Tureaud
Often, we don’t have to look further than our own history for horrifying inspiration. Maria Tureaud, author of the Great Hunger-inspired This House Will Feed, joins me for an illuminating discussion of how we can use horror fiction to explore and provide catharsis for historic tragedy.
Maria Tureaud is the author of one of my new favorite novels, This House Will Feed, which is set at the height of the Irish Famine in the author’s own County Clare. Amidst the devastation of Ireland’s Great Hunger, a young woman is salvaged from certain death when offered a mysterious position at a remote manor house in this chillingly evocative historical horror novel. Maria hails from the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast of Ireland, and she is a seasoned Developmental Editor of fourteen years as well as an acclaimed author of middle grade and adult fiction.
