...Welcome back to the True to Yourself podcast. I'm Anantha Reepa Ajimera and happy to welcome you to this wonderful space where we explore the power of authentic living. I'm so happy to be joined today by a very special guest named Emma Mumford. Emma is the author of three books, including the recently released Hurt Healing Healed. Emma is the UK's leading law of attraction expert. She is an award-winning life coach, the host of the popular Spiritual Queens Badass podcast, and the author of the best-selling Positively Wealthy and the Positively Wealthy Journal. We're going to be talking today about manifestation and all kinds of things that you may not have even ever known about manifestation and how to really manifest in a way that's going to be in alignment with your true and highest self. So welcome to the show, Emma. It's so wonderful to have you.
Emma MumfordThank you for having me, Anto. I'm so excited to connect to well, obviously you came on my podcast. So I'm excited that we can talk about manifestation today as well.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraYes, yes, definitely. And I would love to begin by just hearing from you about a time in your life when you were true to yourself and what impact that made upon your whole life.
Emma MumfordAnd I love that question because I think it challenges you so deeply to think back all over all of your experiences and think, gosh, like when was I really true to myself? And when I saw that question before you sent it, like the first thing that came into my head was actually three years ago, right before I started writing Hurt Healing Heels, I think before that, like I think I was definitely, I would say like always true to myself and like making those decisions. But I feel like that one pinnacle moment in my life was like I feel the one moment where I was like, I was wholeheartedly true to myself and I knew what that meant as well at that point. So far, well, go backwards to three years ago. I'd finished writing Positively Wealthy. And in Positively Wealthy, the book talks about, and obviously the journey and experience I went on was manifesting everything off my vision board, a great problem to have, but feeling really unfulfilled inside and feeling this like gaping hole of like, oh, that's still there. I've manifested all these incredible things, but oh, I'm still the same ever. I still feel the same way internally. So that's when the inner work really started coming up for me. And during that time, I was in a really difficult relationship and a relationship that I had manifested, but it was really, really difficult emotionally. It was toxic and it brought up every single part of my inner work journey. I talk about it in Hurt Healing Healed, obviously, having a twin flame relationship. It's not for the faint-hearted. And obviously, I didn't really know that's what I was going through until sort of like really when I was in it and thinking, like, why is this all happening? And like, why is this relationship unfolding in this way? So that moment for me being really true to myself was actually walking away from that relationship for good. It was so difficult for so many years to do that for a whole multitude of reasons. And for me, it was at that point where I was like, no more. I would be happy if I spend the rest of my life by myself and I choose myself. And that's not good for me. I'm not going to do that anymore. And it took probably every ounce of my soul to walk away and make that decision. Because, like I said, it was not easy in any way, shape, or form. There was so much that went into that decision, it was years worth. But for me, that point just before my 27th birthday changed my life forever. And I thank that version of myself every day to be like, thank you for making that decision because you paved the way for so much abundance to come into your life and so much healing as well. And Hurt Healing Healed was birthed because of that.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's amazing. I love that story. And I love that you acknowledge how this was a relationship that you did manifest and how there can be this darker side to manifestation that a lot of people don't acknowledge or talk about in the spiritual world. It's all about manifest, manifest, manifest. But then when you actually do, it's like, wait a minute, but that thing that we now want to remove was actually something we once were drawing in through seeking to manifest it. And I think a lot of people have that experience. So what did you experience or recognize in that journey about how to bring more alignment into the manifestation process and why it's important to do that?
Emma MumfordYeah, and I really feel alignment is the key word with that because we're always aligning. Like I think, you know, it wasn't that I wasn't aligned before, I was aligned at that point in my life. But what was underneath was trauma. What was underneath was limiting beliefs and fears. So whilst I did manifest that relationship, and of course I wanted that relationship at the time, what I did encounter was a life lesson. What I did encounter was a soul lesson, something that my soul had agreed to experience within this lifetime. And I am so grateful for that relationship because it taught me so much. And like I would not be the person that I am sat here now, or I wouldn't have written her healing healed if I hadn't have gone through all those karmic lessons and you know, really embraced all the lessons within that in that relationship over those three years. So I don't look at it as a negative. I don't look at it as, oh, that's like a bad side to manifesting. I'm like, well, the law of attraction is one of the seven energetic laws of the universe. There's six other energetic laws. So I think so many people pigeonhole law of attraction as like the be all and end all, and like if something bad happens, you manifested it when that's so damaging and harmful to so many people to say that, because then you can get onto the conversation. Well, do children attract abuse to them? Of course they don't. Like that's not even worth thinking about. Of course they do not do that. So when we talk about, and you know, like I've had people message me saying, Oh, you know, I manifested a teaching job and now I hate it and I want to do something else. And I think sometimes we have to have those things to learn what we do want and what we don't want. And if we hadn't have had those experiences, you know, the universe is like, okay, so you think you want to be a teacher, okay, experience it. And then you're like, whoa, no, that's not for me. Okay, I mean, you think you want that relationship. Whoa, okay, that's not for me. So I actually think that there's blessings to all of that. It may not seem like that at the point of course at that time, of course, but I definitely feel there's so many blessings and lessons within those experiences that enhance our manifestations because then we're aligning, like you say, with that true version of ourselves. We're going to learn things, inner work's going to come up, and we're going to align and think, okay, right. So that's not quite what I wanted. What did I take away from that experience? Right. For me personally, it was to heal myself, to heal the past. And that relationship was an invitation for all of that to come up to the surface. If I hadn't have gone through that, it never would have come up. So I don't think there's a dark side to manifesting. I think it's a lack of understanding around the other energetic laws of the universe, which also contribute to our experiences and to our life, like the law of polarity, for example. You know, we need the summer, we need the winter, we need the yin, the yang to create that equilibrium in the universe. So I always say, you know, when you manifest something maybe that wasn't quite desired, or it was, and then you thought, actually, that's not for me. That's just the law of polarity working. That's just life happening, where you then are like, okay, I'm now getting closer to that alignment. I'm getting closer to that aligned desire that is for me. And there's been so many instances over the years where I've like thought something was for me, or I was like, oh my God, it has to be that way. And the universe has dodged, like helped me dodge so many bullets. And thank God, like, you know, the universe has our back, the universe does protect us with divine redirection. So I think it's looking outside the box and knowing that we are always creating our realities, we are always the authors of our life, but actually, there's other, you know, energies at play here. The universe is also guiding us along a path to experience things within this lifetime.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's so interesting, also, to hear you talk about the seven energetic laws of the universe. And you talked a little bit about the law of attraction as one of them, the law of polarity. What are the other five? Just out of curiosity.
Emma MumfordSo I don't actually teach these, so I'm not the full on. I think now you're testing my memory, Ananta. It's law of gender is another one. Oh gosh, I've got a whole video on my YouTube on all seven. Again, it's not something I teach regularly, so it's not my forte. But I always just say to people, because obviously the law of attraction is like my forte and what I teach, which is the law of vibration. So it's actually called the law of vibration, the law of attraction in those seven energetic laws. You know, the law of polarity is one that I work with hugely. The law of cause and effect, there's another one. So again, the you know, the energy we're putting out that there's going to be an effect to that. So I like to say the law of cause and effect is a bit like karma, really, of like what you put out is gonna, you know, you're gonna receive more of that. So they're really interesting to look into. And I have got a YouTube video where I go into depth of all of them. But it's interesting when you look at all seven, you can then be like, right, well, actually, that makes a lot of sense of my experiences and how life actually kind of works and how the law of attraction isn't the be all and end all, but it's actually this incredible tool that you can use alongside all these other things and tools, etc., to really, you know, enhance your life and understand, okay, this is why something happens, but how can I use that to my advantage? How can I turn that whatever it is into an opportunity to learn, to grow, to love whatever it is?
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's beautiful. Yeah, yeah, it definitely sparked my curiosity now to go check out what those other ones are because I have to refresh my memory now. Yeah, I mean, I work a lot with I guess the law of cause and effect because it is the law of karma. So that's a very, very important one that I'm constantly attuned to. And it's just interesting to see how different concepts are presented in different words because certain things click at certain times with certain people, you know. So I'm I'm guessing it'll be probably nothing new, but very interesting to see what those are and how we need to look at all of these factors in order to understand even the law of attraction or the law of vibration, as you said, which is that when we are vibrating at a certain frequency, we also bring in things that are at that same kind of frequency, which is not a static place on the journey, but rather just where we're traveling at a particular time that we're on the journey. So it's really, really interesting. In your book, I loved how you described manifesting from a space of aligning with the highest good of all, and really tuning into your own body to feel what that's like and really to become like an instrument of service. I thought that was really amazing because I I can connect with it also in terms of the Vedic spiritual tradition, because it's like the highest good of all is like connecting with dharma. So is this in an alignment with dharma? Does this not only benefit me but benefit all beings? And that's when we know that this is going to be a flow situation and this is going to be something in alignment. I liked how you brought the feeling in your body also into it, though. And I was wondering if you could describe what that process of checking in with yourself and your body especially is like for assessing alignment.
Emma MumfordYeah, and I think it's come from experience once again, because for so long throughout my manifesting journey, and I know so many others as well, you know, manifestation can stress people out. It can actually be stressful to your nervous system when people are controlling, when people are in that state of attachment and they're like, but this needs to happen, I have to have this. That's going to create so much stress within your body. And over the years, I've really come to realize that if I'm trying to manifest something or if I'm, you know, going along a process and I'm taking my inspired action towards that desire and it's stressing me out, it's stressing my adrenals, it's stressing my nervous system, it's not for me. And I take that step back and I get into that embodiment of like, right, ground back in, get back in your body, realign with what's at the essence and at the core of this, which is I'm not in control, and my Virgo self loves to control. So it's that reminder for me and for all of us that yes, we are the creators of our life, if it's for the highest good, right? And that actually manifestation is a co-creation process and we have to meet the universe halfway. We're not going 90, 100% of the way, we're going 50% of the way. So, really, that embodiment is so, so important because when you're manifesting from an aligned space where you're grounded, you're regulated, and it feels good to your nervous system, you will align so much quicker with your desires. Because again, even from like a really simple perspective, you're going to be feeling probably more happier, you're going to be feeling more eaged, you're probably going to be enjoying that process a lot more. And all of those emotions, like attracts like, is going to attract that situation into your life because you're putting that energy out there. So by the law of attraction, you're going to attract those feelings and more of those feelings back. So that's why I feel alignment and that embodiment is really, really important because with you know, with manifestation, with spirituality work, it's very much sort of like up there, spiritual, cosmic, right? And actually, there's like three aspects to it of mind, body, spirit, as we know. So actually, we need to manifest with mind, body, spirit. So being spiritual and being up there is fantastic, but also you can manifest with Mama Earth, you can manifest with grounding, you can manifest with nature, you can manifest with your body and with your mind, etc. So, really, and that's why I put in in hurt healing healed, you know, like healing is mind, body, spirit, but also manifesting is mind-body spirit as well, because we need to embody all three to really bring it into our body, which is our reality, right? So if your manifestation is stressing you out, it's not your manifestation. You gotta let go of the control, let go of the reins as such, and hand it back to the universe and be like, right, how can I realign myself here and now? How can I bring myself back into my body, regulate myself, relax, ground back in, and then see what happens. And I always find when you do that, the answers come. When you do that, when you're like, right, it's too much now to hold on. So I'm just gonna let it all go. That's when the miracles can come in because the space is created and you're then back in alignment with your true self, where you're not trying to force, you're not trying to push, you're not trying to create any of that energy. You're like, right, clearly what I'm doing's not working. So I'm gonna let this go and allow the universe to show me what the way forward is. So if anybody's listening and they're feeling like I've tried everything, like this is just so stressful, it doesn't need to be. Manifesting can be easy. It should be easy, it should feel good to the nervous system. And I've always found like the most powerful manifestations in my life have felt so calming, have felt so grounded. It's not been stressful, it's not been like, ah, and I'm learning all about this process right now with actually buying my first home. It's felt so stressful to my nervous system because I've never done this before. And I'm like, no, this is not it. This is not the vibe. This is not gonna help me to really fall in love with a house if I'm sat here stressing and feeling so like a nervous wreck over the mortgage process, for example. So for me, it's been that moment of okay, let it go, realign. And when we do that, you know, the opportunities come in where you're not having to force and control anymore. Actually, the spiritual solutions and guidance can come in then.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's amazing. I love that. I think that's really, really beautiful. And can you speak a little bit more to this necessity for practicing detachment and surrendering in order to become the most powerful manifesting magnets, as you say, in your book?
Emma MumfordYeah, probably the biggest life lesson I've gone through, if I'm honest, in my manifesting journey. And it's something that just isn't spoken about enough in manifesting. Like I never read this in the secret, I never read this, you know, like the old school law of attraction text. So I never let go a day of my life. I don't know about you, Ananta, but didn't even know what that meant.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraWell, it's a big part of the spiritual teachings of Vedanta, and it's a really important part of Ayurveda and yoga. So I definitely understand it from the spiritual perspective in terms of how we're guided, even in work or in relationships, to put our full effort in, but then to fully detach from the outcome of the effort that we're making, and that both are important, both the effort and the letting go and surrender. So it's definitely a concept I'm very familiar with and is hard to practice. But when we really do practice it, it does open up that space, I feel, to allow for the highest and best that is meant for us to come in, whether that be the polarity, right? Of like something that seems positive that could actually be teaching us it's not for us, and then something that may seem really difficult that ends up then being a great blessing in disguise. But I think by having that perspective, which is something I've had to really train myself in, it's not that it comes naturally to us to do it. We have to actually work hard to develop it. So I I greatly appreciate the benefit and importance of it. And I agree with you. I've never ever heard anyone else in the manifesting spiritual universe that's not kind of informed by the Vedic spiritual tradition talk about this, which is why I really resonated with what you said, because I think a lot of what you share is actually very much rooted in the Vedic spiritual tradition, which is unusual to find because I do see that a lot of times it's more of a commercialized view on manifesting, which is all about like get what you want, which is just what our world teaches us, right? Like get what you want and get it quickly too, right? Like, don't wait in line, don't have to have any patience, but you just press a button and you get what you want. That whole kind of materialism mentality that allows for things. And yeah, I feel like having learned about karma yoga, having learned about Vedanta spirituality, and put it into practice in my own life, it's the most powerful thing to actually practice letting go. And because it's so many of the things that are small that we hold on to, whether it's in relationships with people or just within our own heart space that end up then becoming big and becoming bigger problems than they needed to be, if we could have just let go of them to begin with. And even at a psychological level, I feel like there's so much we cling to and hold on to for a sense of security outside of ourselves that brings us away from our true self. So I was just so happy to read this and to see you bringing this out and talking about it to people because I think it's so important.
Emma MumfordAbsolutely. And you know, what you're saying there is that mind-body spirit again of decluttering, of letting go. And because it's not spoken about in Western teachings enough, like I had no idea until I read Gabby Bernstein's Universe Has Your Back, and I was like, oh, this is what you're meant to do. So yeah, it's I would say it's arguably one of the most important steps in the manifesting process, but it's not spoken about enough. And you're 100% right, you know, traditional manifesting, so commercialized, it's so kind of Western and like, get what you want. The ego loves that. My ego loves it. Our egos all love it because it's like fantastic. It's gonna solve all my problems. And I can just manifest this stuff, and life's gonna be fantastic. But as I found out, I'm positively wealthy, that doesn't work. Um, so you do have to do the inner work as well. That does come up. But actually, it really taught me, you know, circling back into what we said before about actually looking outside of ourselves when we're manifesting. So asking yourself, why are you manifesting that thing? I've had clients say, I'm manifesting a million pounds, it's on my vision board. I'm like, fantastic, amazing. What are you gonna spend it on? Oh, I don't know. I don't actually need it, but everyone else is putting it on their vision board. So I've just put it on there. And I'm like, okay, well, that's not gonna manifest because you've got no idea what your why is. You don't really care, which kind of is a good detached attitude to have. But also there's not gonna be action or any other energy behind that because you don't actually care. And is it your version of wealth? And what I mean by wealth in positively wealthy is actually your version of happiness, your version of wealth, not just your version of money. So it's really important that we ask ourselves that and identify what our version of wealth is to then identify are we chasing somebody else's goal and manifesting what everyone else on TikTok, Pinterest, Instagram are? Or is that actually what we truly want at our soul essence? Is that actually what we truly want within our heart, our soul as well? So it's really important we ask ourselves those questions and also take it further than that. How can your manifestation impact the collective too? Because then you think about it just out, you think about it more than just yourself. You then reflect it out and say, okay, well, actually, I have the power to help so many people with this manifestation, whether that's manifesting money that's gonna go towards a local tradesman who's gonna help put dinner on the table for his family, for example, or helping a small business, and that has that ripple effect. So it's really great to ask yourself these questions because that deals with the control side. But the letting go side of things specifically is really about getting to into the present state because now is the only time you're gonna receive your desire. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, now, the present moment. So so often we can live in the past, so often we can live in the future, but our desire can only come in the now, in the present moment. So we have to be here to receive it. So in the letting go stage, I talk about, you know, really becoming grateful and appreciative of all the blessings and amazing things that you have here and now. And actually by letting go and creating that space, you are creating the space for your desire. Because just like what you were saying about like, you know, hoarding emotions, hoarding things in life, we all do it. Oh my gosh, we all do it. And if you think about it, that's gonna create a lot of stagnant energy. That's gonna create a lot of stuck energy, cluttered energy. Imagine it like a living room. If you want to buy a nice, sparkly, shiny new lamp, but your living room is full to the brim of clutter, you can't see the floor, there's stuff everywhere, you're not gonna be able to put the lamp in there. There's nowhere to put the lamp. But if you declutter, and that doesn't just mean to doesn't have to be physically in your home. It can be an emotional declutter, a spiritual declutter, but absolutely do a physical declutter in your home and workspace too. You create the space to put the lamp in, you create the space for that desire to come into your life. So I think there's so much power with decluttering, not just in the sense of your home, but again, believe me, every time I do this, I'll get my followers to do it. We all manifest abundance afterwards because we are, you know, shaking up that stagnant energy. We're inviting in that new energy into our homes, into our lives by clearing out anything that doesn't feel aligned anymore. So it's a really powerful practice to do. But letting go is really about the essence of getting present, being grateful, being appreciative, and almost having that mindset of actually not needing your desire, which sounds bizarre. That's why it's quite a kind of difficult step to get your head around because you can't fake it till you make it with letting go. Like I think people think the other steps you really can fake it till you make it. But letting go is the one step where the universe is like gonna call you out and be like, hun, we can see you're still attached. Like we can see you're still controlling this. And you know, people are like, I'm so detached, I'm so surrendered, and then something will happen, and they're like, ah, and you're like, you're really not. So, you know, a lot of times people think they're in step four of the letting go process when actually they're in step two of the believe process still. So it is definitely a step that has to be lent into, and it's definitely a step that comes naturally. I don't think it's something that you can force in any way, shape, or form because letting go just isn't a forceful energy anyway. It's like a very feminine energy where you are releasing, you are surrendering, and you're almost like relaxing into that receiving space. So, in that energy, there is not a controlling energy in there. It's an actual surrender to allow yourself to receive. And I always say your desire will happen when you need it the least. And that can be really hard for, you know, I've found it really hard to embrace that. I know a lot of people have because the law of attraction puts so much force and control of like, you must think about it every day, you must do this every day. So a lot of people stay in that asking stage. Ask, ask, ask, ask. And they don't actually move down the other stages of manifestation or even into that letting go stage, because I just feel that there's a lot of misinformation and a lot of control out there when actually manifestation is a co-creation process. And actually, as you were saying, surrendering to that highest good, surrendering to the higher power as such is so powerful because we think we know what's best for us. And believe me, I definitely don't always know what's best for me. We're all here to learn, right? And by, you know, and I think sometimes people think as well that letting go is giving up, or it's saying, Yeah, you know, oh, I don't deserve what I want or whatever. And it's not that at all. It's simply saying, I'm okay if it happens, or I'm I'm okay if it doesn't. And when you allow something better into your life, this or something better for the highest good, it's never going to be a downgrade. Like I know over the years I always thought, oh, it's probably not going to be as good. And every single time, and I know every other single person on this planet can agree, it's never worse. It's always better. And we're like, thank God we didn't get what we thought we wanted because this is so much better. So it's really trusting in that process of letting go of those hows, whens, whys, all of this hows, because we're not in control of that. We do our 50%, and the universe meets us 50% of the way. So I feel if we all practice that lettergo and surrendering more, just in day-to-day life as well, it can have such a powerful impact on the abundance that you receive as a whole because you're in that receiving energy.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraYeah, that's so amazing. It's amazing also because it's reflecting another Vedantic teaching, which is around the types of action that we can take in life and the kind of karma that comes back as a result of it. And if we're just manifesting from a space of personal desire, then the law of karma in the Vedanta philosophy teaches that what you get back is something not so great. Even if you get the thing that you want, but it impacts you negatively because it's coming from that self-interested space. And when we have a desire for something that's unselfish, that's actually benefiting other people or someone else at least besides ourselves, then we get positive karma back. So more beneficial results come back to us. And if we're really tired of cycling around this wheel of samsara, as it's called in the Vedic spiritual tradition, this wheel of suffering, of constantly going in a circular motion and not getting out of it, right? Because we keep on, like you said, like thinking about the thing that we want over and over again and suffering as a result of it, because we think we need it to complete us. Then the actions that are recommended to come out of this whole wheel of suffering of samsara are what are called selfless actions. And that's where you do exactly what you said, which is to ask how can I be an instrument? and simply. We do what it is I ought to do and do those things that will then bring a manifestation that is feminine intention that's not just to benefit myself, but to be like the sun training because that's its nature. And when the sun shines, it's in its environment, it's in its higher purpose. And I feel that when we honor the call to serve and to give, that abundance naturally follows that intention. And the more beings we seek to benefit from our actions, the more it purifies our karma and frees us from our own mental tackles. And like you can bring them something even greater than what we could have possibly imagined. So I think it's so wonderful that you are thinking about this because I think it's so immediate and so so important for people to understand that this is also how to manifest in a way that is going to be feeling for my body and spirit, not just manifesting and then not knowing what to do, you know, as a result of working back and then wanting to manifest more and more and more and getting slightly obsessive about it and constantly thinking about it. That's how we strengthen that kind of like suffering as a result of desire for something outside of ourselves. Whereas when we don't really have the desire, which is what you were talking about, when we don't feel like we need it, but we're seeking to manifest it, it's like what we say the intellect, the part of the being that controls the emotional reactions of the mind, is actually setting manifestation for something greater, something better from a space of no emotional craving for it. And that I feel is really powerful because when you're fully in control of your emotions and able to surrender and to know what you can do and what you have to let go of, then you're actually in such an optimal state to really be able to handle the million pounds, right? And to know what exactly you would do with that, which would be benefiting yourself as well as other people, and then continuing that flow of nature and of it being a channel for abundance. So yeah, I feel like we can manifest a lot more when we're not thinking to do it for fulfilling an emotional void within ourselves, and that's a really, really important understanding. So I'm so happy that you wrote this book about healing as it relates to manifestation. I think it's really, really awesome and so needed. And I want to hear you also talk about what is it like to receive as an empath, especially because a lot of empaths don't really feel comfortable with this idea of receiving. And how can we as empaths actually open ourselves to that?
Emma MumfordAnd I think as well, like I want to talk about it from a really practical point of view. Like, I definitely know I'm an empath, and I know that so many of your listeners will be as well, of course. Like when you're a spiritual being, it's so easy to be empathic and just want to help everybody and just, and I think I think being a Virgo makes it very grounded and practical with it. And I think for me, how it showed up in my life was I think like four or five years ago, it really kind of came to the forefront when I was having a conversation with a friend and she said, Emma, you don't allow yourself to receive from the masculine. And I was like, What? And I felt so called out. I was like, You're so right, but I don't want you to call it out. So that was a big healing journey for me to actually understand why I really struggle to receive. And I teach this in the receiving step of law of attraction. So the five-step process that I teach, the last step is receive. And I say to people, well, actually, receiving is not just, woohoo, it's here, fantastic, celebrate, you know, express your gratitude. Yes, that is the second part of the step, but it's still a step, right? And when we go from that letting go and surrendering into that receiving energy, we have to be in the energy of receiving. It's not just going to magically happen if we're not in that energy of receiving. And I think women, especially and people who identify as women, really struggle to receive. And I always say this to every like talk workshop I do. I'm like, ask yourself now, how much do you allow yourself to receive in life? It could be money, it could be gifts, could be love, could be support. We can receive so much. And just think about how much do you allow yourself to receive? Because I was someone who did not allow myself to receive at all. I was the giver, I was the provider, I was like the support for everybody. And I loved doing that. That, like, you know, that gave me purpose. That gave me such a great fulfillment. But then I had to allow myself to receive too. And, you know, it was a great big lesson for me with manifesting and aligned manifesting as well. Because although I was receiving my desires, when I really healed that wound of receiving, and I noticed it because I always used to feel weird when people would give me gifts at like birthday and Christmas. And I never knew why. Like I would think, oh, there's like something wrong with me. Like, why do I feel weird when people get me these lovely gifts that I'm so appreciative for? And then I really started to unpack that receiving mindset and what blocks and beliefs were underneath that. And then when I released that and allowed myself to receive from all areas of my life, receive in work, receive in relationships, receive in friendships, receive from myself, receive from my family, like all aspects of my life, just by doing the most simplest things. I was then receiving on a whole new level. And now the way I receive abundance is so different. And it feels so easy because I'm in that energy of receiving. And when I said, you know, get everyone to think about like, you know, what how much do you allow yourself to receive? Like, just do one thing this week. Think about something that you don't allow yourself to receive in, whether it's like support around the house or something from your partner or whatever it is. Do something this week to allow yourself to receive. Allow yourself to take that step back and allow yourself to receive. It could be the smallest thing. And you will notice such a change in your abundance mindset. You'll notice such a change in your manifestations and what's flowing to you because you're in that energy of receiving. So it is really difficult when you're an empath and you just want to give and you want to share with the world and you really want to, you know, help people. Like that is such an amazing quality to have. Like, so amazing. We need we need more of that in the world. But ultimately, it's about that yin-yang, that polarity, that balance of making sure that you allow your cup to be filled too, making sure that you are allowing yourself to receive. Because when you're in that feminine energy of receiving, then you are gonna magnetize so much to yourself because you're in that energy of receiving. You're not just give, give, give, give, give. You're like, it's okay and it's safe for me to receive too. So you might resonate to what I said around my own unpacking around that. You could have some different beliefs that have come up around receiving. So sometimes it can be receiving money can be a real big block for people. So look at the block underneath that if there is one. Look at your relationship with receiving all sorts, receiving love, gifts, money, whatever it is, support, hugs, whatever. You know, look at your relationship with receiving and see if there's anything that you can work through with that, because then you're gonna open the doors as such for more abundance because you're in that aligned energy of receiving.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's amazing. And what are some steps people can take if they do identify that they have blocks around receiving?
Emma MumfordYeah. So I mean, hurt healing healed is going to be your best friend for that to thoroughly and effectively go through the process. But essentially, the one tip that I really love to do, and I guess I want to take it a little bit away from the receiving focus to actually identify what's underneath it. So if you think about, okay, you've got a weird relationship with receiving money, for example, we'll use that one. So then identify what the key words are underneath that. Is it control or you know, whatever the words are, tune into it, find it in your body and tune into it and see what words are coming up underneath that and see if it links to your manifestation that you're trying to manifest. It may not always, that's why I'm saying it may not, but ultimately think of your biggest desire that you want to call into your life and then tune into it, visualize it, see yourself living that desire, and then say to yourself, or hear me say it now, your manifestation is not going to happen. And see where in your body that hit you. And don't worry, your manifestation is going to happen. Don't worry, it is, but it's a great tool to identify where the blockage is, where that limiting belief or fear or block is. And once you identify if it's in your heart chakra, if it's in your solar plexus, wherever, the chakra system can be a great system to work with to identify where in your body it is. Sometimes you can have them in like your knees and stuff and you know, random places, and that's fine too. You know, tune into that area, tune into those words and emotions and feelings that are coming up. And then you can really start to work with that and then say, okay, what memories are coming up around this when I tune into those key words, what ages are coming up as well? There's a whole set of processes in the book to lovingly guide you through all of this and release it. So there are some great tools in that to help and guide you with this, but it's a great place to start to identify what is underneath that, but also how that's impacting your manifestations too.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraThat's amazing. Yeah. Yeah, I'll have to go back through the book and revisit that because I think it's really powerful how you have laid this process out. And I think that's an amazing exercise also to see where in the body, chakra-wise, this is impacting and how to be able to then release it by understanding it first and going there from there with it. So yeah, that's that's amazing. And how would you say the power of intuition factors into the process of healing as well as manifestation?
Emma MumfordYeah, I think lots of people want to develop their intuition. They're like, I, you know, I sense stuff before it happens, and those things are really exciting. But what I find is, and what me and my good friend George have had a good conversation about over the years is intuition versus trauma. And how, you know, over the years, we've all experienced it. Like I can only speak from my experience, but you know, like I would feel things now be like, oh my God, that's like so meant for me. And then it wasn't. And then I'm like, well, what the hell was that then? Like, what the hell was I sensing? So, yes, definitely that can feel frustrating. And I think that's why people then question that intuition or question those gut feelings and nigglings. But again, that's where I really want to say about the nervous system again, because in those examples I was giving, yes, I thought my intuition was showing me that stuff, but my nervous system was telling me a very different story, right? So our nervous system and our body is our intuition too. So that's why the embodiment of your manifestations and bringing it into the body is so important and regulation, because that is all linked to our intuition as well. I believe our intuition is that all-knowing calm energy. It's not going to stress you out, it's not gonna like fill you with nerves and fill you with fear. Like that's not intuition. And I've spoken about this before, where you know, our fears, our limiting beliefs, our traumas can cloud that intuition. So we feel we know it's intuition, but ultimately, you know, those experiences are clouding that, where we think that's intuition, but actually, does that answer stress you out? Does that answer make you feel fearful? Because then that's not intuition. So I always see intuition with manifestation as like it's great, but don't hold it to ransom. Like, you know, with manifestation, it shouldn't be about that control. Like it doesn't matter at the end of the day. If you sense something fantastic, like use that as guidance, use that as a loving tool, you know, but don't hold the universe to ransom with it. Like life is so complex, and we are never going to understand every complexity of the universe. Like, what would be the point of us being here if we already knew it all right? So I think our intuition guides us to where we are in our life, and we can use it absolutely to help us make decisions, to help lovingly guide us. There are so many benefits to working with your intuition. But I think when it comes to manifestation and when it comes to healing, your intuition will become so much more grounded and so much more potent and clear for you when you clear those inner blocks, that healing and that resistance, because that's part of the inner child, inner critic ego that will be that kind of intuition that's screaming at you and you know, stressing you out and making you feel like, I swear this is meant for me. But you're like a nervous wreck. Like that's definitely not intuition. So I think use intuition, like I love it, I love working with my intuition, but I've definitely found that it's grown and the my relationship with my intuition has become so much stronger and so much more grounded since aligning and since clearing any resistance to that intuition.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraYeah, I feel like I've had a similar experience, and I feel like there's more clarity and peace, and you know it's working when you feel at peace with it and it's not stressing you out. I think that's a really good barometer. Is my intuition stressing me out right now? Because if it is, then it may be something covering that clarity and that needs to be addressed and that is needing to be cleared out. So yeah, yeah, I think that's so so important. You also talked about the importance of having a daily routine, and in Ayurveda, we're all about our daily and seasonal routines as a way to really live in alignment with the rhythms of nature and be in harmony with the seasons and with the flow of the day so that we can really be one with nature and have the most peaceful and healthiest existence possible. Could you talk a little bit about the importance of a daily routine for the process of manifestation?
Emma MumfordYeah, and I think I'll start off by saying that daily practices are great for a very different reason. I don't recommend them for the state, well, for the purpose of manifesting your desires, but I definitely think it helps in that process. So again, as I was saying earlier, like people can get very stuck in that ask stage of like affirmations, meditations, subliminals, like journaling, scripting. And I've had honestly, I've had people come to me and read off this whole list of everything they do every day. And I'm like, how do you have time for that? Because that's stressing me out hearing what you do every day. And they're like, I'm so overwhelmed, I can't do it. I'm like, I'm not surprised. Like, we need to get rid of all of this. So a daily practice should feel fun. A daily practice should not feel like a chore. And I write in the book, Hurt Healing Healed, about a study that was done in America in 2021 by the sleep judge, where they surveyed a thousand people, or over a thousand people, I think it was, on their daily habits. So it wasn't just based upon spiritual practices or manifestation practices. It was based upon anybody who had a daily practice of like stretching, running, mindfulness, breath work, meditation, journaling, like all sorts of things. And they found that the people who did have a structured morning routine on average earned $14,000 more a year than people who didn't. And they also went on to find tons of health benefits to like reducing cholesterol, reducing blood pressure. Obviously, like people were more relaxed, they were more productive, they were more positive minded. So there's so many benefits to this from a mindset perspective, from a productivity perspective, even from a financial and health perspective as well. So those are like the scientific benefits as such. But how that impacts manifestation is you're raising your vibration with that. So you're starting off your day with some loving, enjoyable practices, whatever they may be, whether it's affirmations, scripting, meditation, stretching, whatever, whether it's manifestation related or not, you're gonna set yourself up for success that day. You're gonna go into your day feeling, you know, inspired and motivated and feeling ready for the day, which creates that container of positive energy. So then you go throughout your day experiencing positive things because like attracts like. And then by, you know, the time you get to the evening, stuff happens, life happens. You may not as feel as sparkly as you did in the morning when you did your morning practice. So that's why I think it's important as well to do a little mini evening ritual to just release the stresses from the day, to release anything that you've picked up, to release anything that's not serving you, basically. So it doesn't have to be a really in-depth practice, a bit of gratitude, maybe some reading to relax yourself. Again, it's finding those tools and practices that really work for you because everybody's different. Eight billion people are not gonna like all the same practices. So it's finding something that really works for you and also your patterns as well. If you're like a night owl and you're more like, you know, willing or wanting to do things at nighttime, you might want to do some more writing at nighttime. If you're like an early bird who feels more productive in the morning, then you might want to do it in the morning. So it's really about finding those practices that work for you and work for your morning and evening ritual. But doing these then creates that positive momentum because then when you go to sleep having done your evening ritual, you then let go of any stresses for the day. And I always find that during gratitude right before bed sends me straight to sleep. Like I sleep like a baby because it's releasing, you know, any negative emotions, it's releasing any stresses from the day so that I'm in that gratitude attitude again and I'm ready, and my brain's like, right, positive, let's sleep. So then I'm waking up feeling that positivity again. And then I go into my morning ritual and then create that positive momentum. So why it works for manifesting, even if you're not doing manifesting practices specifically, is because it's raising your vibration. You're in that positive catalyst of positive energy where you're doing self-loving things for yourself. It's a form of self-love too, to raise your vibration and feel good. So it's fantastic for manifesting as a byproduct, but I think we should do it all anyway, you know, to really help our mindset and to help us feel good in the day.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraDefinitely, definitely. And one last question I would love for you to talk about is the inner child healing that you wrote about in your book and what impact that has had on your journey with manifestation and how that can just support the healing process in general.
Emma MumfordAnd again, I would say some of the most powerful discoveries in my manifestation journey was inner child work. So much so I've done a whole course on manifesting with your inner child. But how you know our inner child is is within all of us. We have that little inner child within us that lives with us throughout our whole life. And Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud have done so much work around the inner child. So if you love your psychology point of view rather than your spiritual point of view, there's lots of amazing research out there and studies done on it. And it's part of the psyche essentially. So we have that child version within us. And I personally believe that our ego, our inner critic, is our inner child. So that voice within us that's like, you're not good enough, you can't do this. That is your little inner child who just wants to be seen, who wants to be heard, who wants to be loved. And we so often bash our inner critic and ego, swear at it. I used to swear at mine all the time, you know, but like, leave me alone, you're not helping anything, you know. All the stories we say and shout at our inner critic with, but it just gets louder and it just gets worse, right? It doesn't ever go away when we do that. So when you speak to your inner critic, your ego lovingly and say, okay, I see you, I hear you, what's up? Why, like, let's talk about this. Why do you feel this way? The power instantly goes because it's that little inner child who wants to be seen, who wants to be heard. So bringing that childlike magic back into your life and working with your inner child, and there's loads of tools in the book to help you with that. And I've got some stuff on my YouTube and podcast too, if you want to dive into it, really can help you ignite so much fun in your adult life. Like I even say to people, like, do it just to have fun as an adult. Like, you know, it's not all about healing and everything like that. There's yes, it is, but there's also so much magic that can come from it in your adult life and bringing that childlike spark and awe and wonder, you know, into our adult lives because when we grow up, things get serious. The magic is kind of lost a little bit until we, you know, spiritually awaken and get back into it. If people do choose to do that. So working with the inner child really brings that fun essence back into our adult life and reminds us that, you know, there is so much magic with children. There is so much we can learn from them as well. I learned so much from my little godchildren of how just they see the world in that magical way. And I think we all lose that in this society, in this world. So inviting that back in has so many benefits and healing benefits as well. And of course, you know, if you have gone through, and so many of us have, you know, difficult childhoods and difficult upbringings, you know, working with your inner child to heal and release that can be so, so powerful for you.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraYeah, yeah, for sure. In my book, The Way of the Goddess, chapter eight is, I think, my favorite chapter because it is about, okay, after you've gone through this intense journey where you've really transformed and transcended and set boundaries and did all the hard inner work, then at the more advanced stage, it's important to really play and have fun and bring joy into the equation because it shouldn't always be serious all the time, or the polarity of life will not be there to balance itself. Because, on the one hand, we want to have the great wisdom of the sages and the elders and the ancients, but part of their wisdom is their childlike playfulness and sense of fun, which is informed by you know the spiritual wisdom and concepts. So it's not looking for fun from clubs or alcohol or drugs, but more from, you know, like everyday occurrences and the smallest things and how we look at it and our perspective that really makes such a big difference. So, wow, this has been such an amazing learning experience about so many things that are uncommonly explored in the world of manifestation. I'm sure our listeners are gonna really, really benefit from hearing about this. And where can they go to find your new book and to learn about you and the work that you do?
Emma MumfordYeah, and thank you for having me, Anantor. I've loved this conversation. It's been so much fun to, like you say, talk about so many different aspects of manifesting today. But yeah, if people want to find out more, you can find everything on my website, emma mumford.co.uk. And you can find me on all social media platforms, but I'm mainly on Instagram at I am Emma Mumford. And Hurt Healing Healed out now from anywhere that sells books worldwide in audiobook, paperback, and ebooks. Same with all my books. So yeah, they're a great place to start and lots of fun as well. There's lots of manifesting techniques and fun in there.
Ananta Ripa AjmeraAmazing. I love the worksheets also. I think you've made it really practical for people to actually write and reflect and do the inner work. So thank you so much for sharing and for being on the show with us. Thank you so much for having me.
