You know the moment.
You leave lunch with someone you love, and nothing went wrong. No fight. No harsh words.
And still, you feel like you've been wrung out like a towel.
That heaviness you're carrying home with you — it's not yours.
And it's not because you're too sensitive.
It's because a door was left open.
Today, I'll show you how to close it — without closing your heart.
Welcome to True to Yourself — your soulful companion on the journey home to yourself.
I'm so glad you're here.
Last episode, we explored five signs that you may be absorbing everyone else's emotions. If you missed it, you'll still find your footing today — but go back and listen when you can.
Today, we're taking the next step.
Not by building walls around your heart.
But by learning how to become a conscious guardian of your own sacred space.
Let's begin.
OPENING — The Difference Between Protection and Fear
When I began clearing my own energetic field — through a modality called Body Code and Emotion Code, the same work we do together inside Sovereign Within — I uncovered more than 2,200 energetic imbalances.
What surprised me most wasn't simply how many there were.
It was how many of them weren't mine.
Absorbed emotions. Inherited emotions. Emotional energies I had unknowingly carried for years simply because my heart had always been open.
If you're an empath, you probably know this feeling.
You leave a conversation feeling exhausted without understanding why. You walk into a room feeling peaceful, and twenty minutes later your body is carrying anxiety that wasn't there before. Someone else is grieving... and suddenly you're grieving too.
For years, I thought the answer was to become less sensitive. To harden myself. To protect myself by closing down.
But Ayurveda taught me something entirely different. It taught me that healing isn't about closing the doors. It's about becoming conscious of who — and what — you invite through them.
There is a profound difference between fear and discernment. Fear closes everything. Discernment chooses wisely.
That is the work of the second chakra.
And today, I want to share three rituals that have completely changed the way I move through the world. Not by making me less empathic. But by helping me remain rooted in my own energy while still keeping my heart open.
Because that is the goal. Not less compassion. Greater sovereignty.
PRACTICE ONE — Honor Your Five Sacred Doorways
Last week, I introduced you to one of my favorite teachings from Ayurveda — that your five senses are not merely biological functions. They are sacred doorways. Everything that enters through them leaves an impression. Every image. Every conversation. Every meal. Every fragrance. Every embrace.
Most of us have never been taught to think this way. We spend enormous energy protecting our physical homes. We lock the doors. We choose who comes inside. We notice when something feels out of place. Yet we often leave the doorway of our own consciousness completely unguarded.
We scroll through endless images that leave us feeling inadequate. We listen to conversations filled with fear and criticism. We consume news that keeps our nervous system in a constant state of vigilance. We spend time with people whose emotional storms become our own.
Then we wonder why we feel exhausted before the day has even begun.
Ayurveda gently asks a different question: what have you been allowing into your sacred dwelling place? Not with judgment. With curiosity. Because awareness is where your power returns.
One practice I return to often is The Five Doorways Check-In. At the end of the day, I pause for a few minutes and ask myself five simple questions. What did I allow myself to see today? What did I listen to? What did I consume? What did I breathe in? What did I touch — and what touched me?
Then one final question: did those experiences leave me feeling more like myself... or less?
That one question has changed my life. Because protecting your energy isn't about hiding from the world. It's about becoming conscious of what you repeatedly invite into your inner world.
PRACTICE TWO — Direct Your Sacred Energy
The second practice comes from Brahmacharini.
Most people translate brahmacharya as celibacy. Its deeper meaning is more beautiful than that. It means directing your life toward what is sacred — choosing what strengthens your connection to your highest Self, instead of whatever simply feels good in the moment.
The second chakra governs creativity. Sexuality. Pleasure. Life force itself. The same energy that creates a child also creates a poem. A painting. A business. A garden. A new way of living.
When that energy has nowhere meaningful to flow, it turns toward consumption instead. More scrolling. More entertainment. More shopping. More stimulation. Not because you're weak. Because life force always wants somewhere to move.
So here is the practice, and it has two parts.
First: create before you consume. Before checking your phone, write one page. Before scrolling, cook, garden, journal, move your body. Even five minutes changes the quality of your entire day, because instead of beginning by receiving everyone else's energy, you begin by expressing your own.
Second: give that energy a container — a ritual that belongs only to you. Not something you do because someone else needs it. Not something that makes you more productive. Something that reconnects you with yourself.
There was a stretch of years where the first thing I did each morning was reach for my phone before I'd even opened my eyes all the way. Messages, notifications, other people's mornings pouring into mine before I'd felt my own feet on the floor. I told myself I was just staying on top of things. But by nine a.m., most days, I already felt like I'd been picked up and set down somewhere I hadn't chosen. It wasn't until I reversed the order — five minutes of quiet with a cup of tea before I let a single notification in — that I noticed the shift. Not instantly. But within a couple of weeks, I was reacting less. Absorbing less. Because by the time the world reached me, I had already met myself first.
(Edit this to reflect your own real morning — the specific detail is what will make listeners trust it.)
That's the whole teaching. Before you pour yourself into the world, return home to yourself first.
Discipline isn't the opposite of freedom — it's what creates the space for freedom to emerge. Brahmacharini doesn't suppress life force. She sanctifies it. She asks one question: where is your energy going? Because your energy is sacred. Your attention is sacred. And if you don't consciously choose where it flows, your sensitivity will reach outward until, slowly, quietly, you disappear from your own life.
PRACTICE THREE — The Sacred Pause
The final practice is one of the simplest, and one of the most powerful: the sacred pause.
For empaths, this may be one of the most important practices you ever learn. Because often, the moment we absorb another person's emotion is the moment we move too quickly. Someone is upset, and we rush to fix it. Someone is disappointed, and we abandon ourselves to make them comfortable. Someone is angry, and our nervous system starts searching: what did I do, how do I make this better, how do I restore peace.
But peace created through self-abandonment is not true peace. It is exhaustion disguised as harmony.
The sacred pause creates the space between what you feel and what you do. And inside that space is your power.
The next time you feel a strong emotional reaction around someone, pause. Feel your feet. Place a hand on your body. And ask: is this mine? What was I feeling before I entered this person's energy? What belongs to me? What belongs to them?
This doesn't mean you stop caring, or become detached, or go cold. The opposite happens. When you stop carrying what isn't yours, you have far more capacity to genuinely love. You can witness someone's pain without drowning in it. You can support someone without sacrificing yourself. You can walk beside someone without carrying them.
That is the mature expression of the second chakra. Not a closed heart. A discerning heart.
CLOSING — Returning to Your Own Sacred Waters
As we close today, remember this: your sensitivity is not the problem. Your ability to feel deeply is not something you need to eliminate. The world needs people who can feel, who can sense, who can connect.
But your sensitivity was never meant to come at the cost of your sovereignty.
The water element teaches us this beautifully. Water is receptive. Water is adaptable. Water nourishes everything it touches. And yet water has boundaries. A river has banks. An ocean has shores. Without a container, even the most nourishing waters become a flood.
Your boundaries are the sacred banks that allow your compassion to flow.
This week, protect your five sacred doorways. Direct your energy before the world directs it for you. Pause before absorbing what was never yours to carry.
And I want to be honest with you about something. These three practices will change how much you absorb going forward. But they won't clear what you're already carrying — the grief that isn't yours but still lives in your body, the fear you inherited before you even had words for it. Ritual builds the doorway forward. It doesn't reach backward into what's already lodged inside you.
That is different work. And it's the work I'd love to help you with, if you're ready.
You are not here to become less sensitive. You are here to become more rooted in yourself. Because the deepest form of compassion is not losing yourself in another person's experience. It is meeting them from the fullness of your own.
Next on True to Yourself, we move into the Release episode — a sacred water cleansing ritual from the ancient Vedic tradition, designed for the exact moment you're ready to let something specific go.
And if today brought awareness to a pattern, an emotion, or an inherited weight you're ready to release now — rather than wait for that episode — I'd love to offer you a complimentary Sovereign Within introductory session. Together, using Body Code and Emotion Code, we identify and release the energetic imbalances that keep you carrying what was never yours to hold.
The link is waiting for you in the show notes.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for honoring your sensitivity. And thank you for choosing, again and again, to come home to yourself.
Stay true to yourself.
Namaste. 🙏
