Restoring Hope in Online Dating (SOON Dating Pt. 1)

Rosemary Wilson Season 1 Episode 14

#14. This week I’m interviewing Cora Kyler, co-founder & CEO of SOON. A dating app that recently launched in San Francisco. The premise is, first messages are date invites! They’ve acquired thousands of users in a few months time & are responsible for more than a thousand dates in San Francisco, so far. They’ve also hosted a number of sought after SOON singles mixers & are ramping up these events in haste. Before founding SOON, Cora was a grad student in Math at UC Berkeley & her best friend & co-founder was studying Architecture at MIT. When COVID hit, Cora & Alena, along with most young people, started using dating apps frequently & found themselves feeling more isolated as a result. The friends immediately started working on SOON as side project while in school, but quickly committed themselves to SOON & raised money from venture capitalists—realizing, making a better dating app, one that brings people together, soon—is the most important things they could undertake.

My conversation with Cora was extremely insightful and packed with information around what it’s like to be a founder let alone a female founder, the process around fundraising for your company, and the goals of SOON as they look to the future.

Part 1 focuses mainly on Cora’s background, the timeline and goal of SOON, and some aspirations SOON has to connect people offline and restore hope in dating.
