#19: Men's Pelvic Health Basics
Nov 06, 2023

Hey there, welcome to the NorthStar Physical Therapy podcast!

I am your host, Dr. Shirlea North and I dive into lymphedema, lipedema, and various pelvic health dysfunctions. My goal is to provide to you a better way to understand these conditions so that you empower yourself with knowledge to advocate for yourself. Let NorthStar Physical Therapy guide and navigate you on your journey to optimal health!

Today we will be talking about Men’s Pelvic Health Basics as we celebrate Men’s Health Awareness this November! As a pelvic health physical therapist, I always see and notice that men do not realize they also have a pelvic floor and a pelvis.

That is why they also need to take care of their pelvic area as well as get some help if necessary. Men also have to understand that medications aren’t the only answers to whatever they are experiencing. Pelvic floor physical therapy can definitely help with many issues that men face.

It is very important for men, too, as they age, to take a look at what other areas of their body need their attention so that they continue to live their best lives!

Please share this podcast episode to someone you love and needs to hear all about this!

Let’s discuss:

  • Introduction to today’s topic
  • The different aspects and pelvic health issues in men that we look into as healthcare providers
  • The three main functions of the pelvic floor that we want to educate men about
  • Other issues that we often screen with men’s pelvic health from urinary functions, bowel functions, to sexual functions and how we try to make men patients comfortable with discussing their symptoms
  • The importance of taking a peak and why you need to start looking into your pelvic health now
  • Conclusion
