SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the Star Zology Astrology Podcast. I'm your host, Alison Price, and I'm here with my good friend and co-host, Owen O'Neill.

SPEAKER_01

Hello, Alison. It's great to be here.

SPEAKER_00

So nice to have you once more. So in this episode, we're going to be talking about the June 2026 Overarch.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And by Overarch, we're talking about the astrological events that are happening. We're going to be talking about the planetary ingresses, that's planets changing signs. We're going to be talking about the lunations, which is the new and the full moon, and eclipses if there are any, and then any stations that may or may not occur.

SPEAKER_01

Sounds good.

SPEAKER_00

So we do this every month. We um give a bit of an overview, and it's it's not necessarily um a horoscope per sign. Well, it isn't, but what it is, it's it's what astrologers would look at if they were going to be writing horoscopes. It's the changing and the shifts of energy that are occurring throughout the month. Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And we do this every month, and it's just a good way to give people an idea of what the uh the weather forecast is astrologically for the coming months.

SPEAKER_00

That's right, that's right. And some months are more busier than others, and uh some months have some big, big movers, and uh well, we'll discover what's going on in June as we go through it. Indeed. So on the 1st of June, we've got Mercury enters cancer. Right. So it's leaving uh Gemini behind and it's actually um entering cancer. I've got a couple of thoughts I'm just gonna share about that. There will be much conversation surrounding important things that really matter when Mercury enters cancer. Big decisions about your residence can be aired now. This is the moment for clear discussions. Um, you will do well to listen closely to everyone who lives in your home and their fears and concerns and avoid assuming you know how they feel and take the time to listen.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, and and this is an interesting thing because obviously Mercury, maybe not obviously, is uh it rules uh Gemini and so it has just uh it will be leaving its its own sign. Yes. And uh it is happy, as we say, as uh you know, in its own sign. Like a clam. Yeah, but but Mercury in Gemini can be a very fast-paced, chatty, sort of, you know, almost almost kind of uh thoughtless thinking without feelings, maybe thinking before you uh speaking before you before you've thought about what the other person is is going to feel about it. And uh it can be it can feel great when you're just babbling along and whatever. But uh, but yeah, Mercury in Cancer is more uh more thoughtful, a little more introspective, a little more compassionate. I think uh it's it's better for those kinds of deep talks where you really need to empathize and listen to the other person before waiting to talk. Yeah. I think Mercury in Gemini is much more of a waiting for your turn to talk kind of.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, if not butting in.

SPEAKER_01

If not, exactly. Maybe not waiting so much. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But um, that's the thing. When it's in Gemini, it's opinion, opinion, opinion. Yeah. Um, but now, um, although it's to do with what you're talking and thinking, you do need to listen as well. And this would be definitely one of those signs where everyone will benefit from just letting the other person speak or or listen to what they're really trying to tell you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. And and it's not just Mercury is very much about speech, but it's also about how we think, it's about our body language, yes, and it's about um our learning styles and uh and our community, everything to do with communication, not just speaking. So I think mercury in cancer is um it's probably much more um how you speak through your actions or or how you speak by by listening or uh how you express your your affection for people or nurture people as cancer is is wont to do. Um maybe not through speaking, but through uh through your actions.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. So that's uh yeah, it's something that we can all uh lean in lean into there, yeah, for sure. And as you said, Mercury does rule Gemma and I also rules Virgo, we'll just mention that as well. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It does indeed, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So on June 13th, Venus is entering Leo.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So it means that it's leaving it's leaving Cancer and it's now um entering the sign of Leo. Yes. And some of my thoughts are um that now there's a shift of energy as you look for creative solutions around your love affairs. Whoa. If you are single, you will be more open to a romantic encounter as Venus enters Leo. It may not get heavy immediately, as this is the time to play it cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. If you are in a meaningful relationship, this ingress will bring more heart to your affair.

SPEAKER_01

Love it.

SPEAKER_00

And now you can engage yourself wholeheartedly with your fun, loving partner.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I think this is a very pleasant placement.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. I think of Venus in Leo as as sort of a it's a the grand romantic gesture. Oh yeah. You know? Yeah. Or it's like makeover time, you know, time to sort of beautify and and put your best foot forward and uh peacock uh feathers and uh bunches of roses. Men and women, yeah. Doing your best to impress and uh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And uh Venus is the planet of attraction as well. So maybe we all wanted to attract, you know, in a leonine sort of way. Yeah, a fiery, passionate. Try some red lipstick. Yeah, with your hair. That's right. That's the mane. Do something with the mane. Yeah, love it. Yeah, so that that's great. Then when we get down to well, the next then on the next day, on the 15th, it we've got a new moon in Gemini. Yes. So this is the only new moon this month, and it's actually going to be at 24 Gemini. So this suggests that there will be a blend of emotional and factual events which unfold. Um, any lies can easily be slipped into the good news. Yes. And read the fine print, be aware of how you feel when you blurt things out, and also start writing, start a writing project like a journal book or article now. Because the new moon is a time to start something new, something fresh. It's our it's our monthly reset.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And um, this particular one's in Gemini. So gather your thoughts, yeah, make some notes, make some lists, make another list about your list, a list of lists.

SPEAKER_01

Buy some new notebooks. Oh, yeah, yes.

SPEAKER_00

So that's I think that's pretty pretty straightforward. And yeah, yeah. So then on the 19th of June, we have the biggest movement of the month, and this is Chiron's entering Taurus. Yes. So we are um, we actually have a particular podcast, a full episode about um Chiron entering Taurus, and we can put a link to that below. So, but in what it really means is that Chiron is leaving Aries, where it's been for a long time. Yeah. And it's going to be going into Taurus. We'll we'll, as I say, we'll talk more about that in our Chiron and Taurus episode, I think.

SPEAKER_01

Indeed, indeed. Yes, that's a big one.

SPEAKER_00

It's a big one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's the biggest shift, it's the most out of planet making a shift. Yes, indeed.

SPEAKER_01

It's got quite an elliptical orbit, but it is between um Saturn and Uranus. So it's it's definitely a slower-moving planet, but it spends quite a bit more time in Aries and uh yeah, than than the other signs.

SPEAKER_00

So, as I say, we we're not gonna go into too much about that just for June.

SPEAKER_01

And uh stay tuned because we will have an entire episode dedicated to that.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And um, so then on the 21st of June, the sun is entering Cancer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

This is the solstice, and it's also known as Letha. Yes. So the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere is it's a turning point in the year because the sun is going um as high as it gets northerly and it starts to turn and come back down towards the equator.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so it's the longest day of the year.

SPEAKER_00

That's right, that's right. So here you've got themes of circling the wagons, and preservation of family will be strong when the sun enters cancer. Uh, focus on your foundations and thank those who really support you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There is an air of quiet confidence now. Love that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Cancer is uh it's all about the home and mothering, nurturing, childhood, but also uh patriotism, the homeland. Yes, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And your your roots and everything, and uh we from whence you came.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

From whence you came. Yeah. So that's um that's the 21st, that's the sun entering Cansa. And then on the 28th, Mars is entering Gemini. So all of these planets are kind of moving um similarly. So Mars is leaving Taurus where it's not very well placed. Yeah, and it's going to go into Gemini.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So now the urge is to make connections, which which is a strong urge as Mars enters uh Gemini. Um, choose to reach out where you want to bond, as others are more amenable to collaborations now, because that's the Gemini thing. Right. Um, find your voice. Multitasking can be an attractive option, but it can also lead to burnout if you're not careful.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And energy will come in spurt. So plan some rest periods in your day as well. Because this, you know, Mars is a busy, busy planet. Yeah, it's here, there, and everywhere. And then I'm thinking this is the time to push forwards on fresh ideas. So because we just had the new moon in Gemini, and now Mars is going into Gemini, it's all about what ideas we have, and as humans, we have we do think and have ideas and we invent things and have inspiration.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, absolutely. And Mars is is firing up uh an air sign, and it's the it's the thinky air sign. It is, it is. Yeah, so it should be good for sparking ideas. It it could also lead to a sort of a mental burnout because it is kind of the burning of the candle at both ends placement for Mars.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it is, it is.

SPEAKER_01

And and I I think people could get a little testy um defending their ideas.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, how about debate?

SPEAKER_00

Debate. Yeah, we'll call it debate, but it could easily turn into an argument, right?

SPEAKER_01

Bickering, yeah, bickering. Indeed.

SPEAKER_00

And um having to want wanting to have the final word, maybe as well. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So with Mars at Gemini, there is no final word.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I suppose so, yeah. Yeah. And then on the 29th of June, we've got the full moon in Capricorn. So um, this is going to be at 8 degrees Capricorn. So the moon is in its detriment in Capricorn, it's not well placed, it's not necessarily a particularly one of the better full moons, however. Um, you can feel restrained, um, yet it does bring a clear focus because it's the full moon. This time we'll highlight responsibility, goals, and long-term structures. And emotional expression may seem limited, but clarity arises through discipline and realism. Yeah. You know, we all dream big, we've all got these big things, and we all get worked up about some big thing, but this is going to be a place where reality is going to say, no, Alison, you can't be doing that. We're going to be doing this. Rain it in, girl.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right. All of those ideas that spark when uh when Mars is in Gemini. Yes. Yeah. Exactly. The reality check.

SPEAKER_00

And this full moon reveals where steady effort pays off and where boundaries create lasting strength and stability. So again, because it's a full moon, it's really just that blip that day. Yeah. But um, it is an eight degrees Capricorn. So if you've got any planets there, this will affect you, and you will be able to see everything in all its glory, uh, walks and all at the full moon.

SPEAKER_01

For sure. And also um eight degrees cancer. If you have anything in eight degrees cancer, that'll be opposed by that.

SPEAKER_00

Opposing it, yeah. That is true, that is true. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I believe on that same day, yeah. We also have Mercury going retrograde.

SPEAKER_00

We do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It's a busy day.

SPEAKER_00

Busy day. So Mercury's going to station retrograde in cancer on the 29th. So it's stationing retrograde at 26 cancer. And this is the second retrograde period for the year, and they're both in, they're all in water, I think, this year. I stand corrected there. And Mercury's usually retrograde for three weeks. We haven't got the exact numbers at my fingertips, but it's definitely at 28, it's only going to go back um 12 to 14 degrees anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so it'll be in cancer that whole time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I'm saying here, be prepared for potential challenges in communication as text and conversations may seem to take an unpredictable turn. Expect disruptions in appointments and sudden changes of plan. So if you've got an appointment for an interview or you're going to go for somewhere to do something, you you must expect changes on that because of Mercury's retrograde. And during this period, you may feel a strong urge to revisit, return to or replace people, situations, and belongings.

SPEAKER_01

Right, especially having to do with the home or emotions or the close family that is represented by cancer.

SPEAKER_00

That's correct. That's correct. And this is a tricky time. If you're trying to sell your house and you someone puts in an offer, then they come back and they go back. Not a good time when Mercury's retrograde. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and it's essential to say to stay adaptable and patient as Mercury's retrograde influence in cancer unfolds.

SPEAKER_01

Indeed.

SPEAKER_00

So I think that if you are trying to sell a house, which is Mercury's the deal, it's cancer's your home, this when it's retrograde, there will be delays. Yeah. They won't make it the mortgage, they haven't got the paperwork, they don't do the signing on time, and you have to constantly go back. So, really, if if I were selling a house, I would never sell it when Mercury's retrograde or even list it at that in that in that time. Yeah, yeah, not that we're buying and selling properties. Back in the day, we are well, you know, we sold a couple, but uh you'd want to watch out for that. And also if you're buying, yeah and you put in an offer to purchase, there's gonna be humming and harring and humming and harring, and then you've got to get the surveyors from.

SPEAKER_01

They're like, well, no, it didn't go through, and you're like, What?

SPEAKER_00

That's right, and suddenly the price is going up, and they didn't tell you about that lien on the blah blah. So there's that as well. Yeah, just because it's in cancer, or it's all about real estate. Yeah, but then again, in general, uh Mercury and metro uh mercury retrograde affects a lot of things.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's just one of those be aware and check everything twice and and then check it again.

SPEAKER_00

And also when you're sending a text, because I I remember there was one year I wrote this, I was telling my husband what I thought about something in quite strong tone. And I I sent it to the wrong person. And I got a text back about an hour later saying from this guy saying, I don't think this was meant for me. I thought, oh good Lord. It was, you know, me saying, and by the way, this and that, oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Wow. Uh the most nightmarish uh time that that something like that ever happened to me, I accidentally sent a very not work-related email to who what I thought was my my best friend at work. Oh, but we were on uh Lotus Notes, if anyone remembers what that was, and uh and it it didn't remember email addresses, so you just would have to write the beginning of their name and it would autocomplete. So anyone writing to me, it's just like really easy. You know, AR, nobody else had, you know, ARWA. Yeah, exactly. That's true. But her name was Barb, and there was another Barb.

SPEAKER_00

And uh it was And you said Terab, did you?

SPEAKER_01

I sent a very long and explicit uh description of all of the fun that I had had that weekend. Yeah, because that's the kind of work relationship we had. We did not have a lot to do at work, it was boring, and we um yeah, just chatter, chitter all day about uh our lives. Yeah, and that was not appropriate. No, no. I I literally sprinted over to her desk and I just threw my you know body upon the sword and was just like, I have just accidentally sent you an email, please let me delete it. And she's like, Okay. Wow. Which, thank goodness, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think these things are not, you know, world shattering, but it you can so easily make a faux pas verbally by text in an email, yeah, because when Mercury's retrograde, yeah, and you have to go back and either apologize, yeah, which is the worst thing.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh, yeah. I mean, at least I was lucky enough that A, it was in the office where I could literally run over there. You know, these days everything's remote, everything is so instantaneous, there's no backseas, you know. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

It's gone, it's gone. Yeah, well, this is it, and um so that is definitely a general in general terms with Mercury retrograde, right? We want to watch out for these things. We just want to be aware, but um on some of the positive things to do when uh Mercury is retrograde, it's if you are a writer, this is a good time for editing, reviewing, copy, copy editing, proof, proof reading, 100%, checking your numbers for your calculation for your rocket launch or whatever you you happen to be doing, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh, if you're doing a rocket launch, please check your numbers.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Make sure you've got the decimal place in the right point. Indeed. And um, yeah, but for for people who are writing, which is you and I, it's a great time to say, okay, let me now review this manuscript. Yeah. Um, because you know, you've got 50,000 words and you want to let let me just go over this again. Let's talk about the sequence of events, let's talk about um chapter titles. Is it making also is it cohesive? And these are the good things that you can do when Mercury is retrograde. Also for swatting for exams. Do you call it swatting? I don't think so. Okay, well, when you what do you call it when you're learning for exams? Cramming.

SPEAKER_01

Cramming.

SPEAKER_00

Cramming. Okay, when you're cramming.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, either way, it sounds weird.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes, when you're actually having to go back because you've already learned the stuff when you sat in the classroom. Yeah, now's the time to go back and review and make your summary of your summaries.

SPEAKER_01

I think they call it that because they're trying to cram all the information into your head at least.

SPEAKER_00

Is that what it is? Uh well in England we call it swatting, because if you are if you always got your nose in a book, then you're a SWAT.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, interesting. I had no idea.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

I love that.

SPEAKER_00

With an error. Yeah, so that's um so we'll be doing our reviewing, editing, and uh proofreading and the other words. Yeah, copy editing. There's another one, isn't there? Yeah. Grammar checking.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Actually, here's a little tip if anyone out there is a writer or editor or doing your own whatever. Um, always read something out loud, or better yet, have one of those uh text-to-speech things that are out there for free. Just uh you can Google text-to-speech free thing and go to a website and dump all the text into it and have it read out loud back to you. Because it will very frequently catch errors that you um you know visually would just gloss right over.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because you've read it so many times and it's just it looks fine to you, and then you and there's endless sentences. Yeah, you hear it back and you're like, oh, that's a run-on sentence, or why is the words uh appear twice in a row and I just looked over that a million times and didn't catch it, or yeah, what have you.

SPEAKER_00

And there's some spelling, I mean some words I just can't spell, but um I I've really got to double check and triple check that I'm using the correct one.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know, for sure. But uh homophones, yes. Homophones, yeah, yeah, and things like some words like um well, I don't need to go into it now, but anyway, there are I just struggle to spell. But anyway, yeah. So that's what the best that's what to do with Mercury is retrograde and why not do it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, totally.

SPEAKER_00

And then on the 30th, we we thought we had the big move. Jupiter's entering Leo. Yes. So this is the 30th of June. Jupiter's entering Leo for the first time in what, uh, 12 years to bring confidence, creativity, and self-expression in Leo. I've been waiting, waiting, waiting for this move. So exciting. Uh making its move. So Leo's Boldfire energy expands Jupiter's optimism, encouraging people to shine in their own light. This transit favors artists, performers, leaders who step forward with courage and authenticity. It is the time to embrace joy, generosity, and celebration of life. Personal growth comes through following your heart and expressing your talents freely. Um, while ego inflation is possible, true success lies in inspiring others through warmth and creativity.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so we actually do have an episode on uh Jupiter entering Leo, which I will link to because I think it's gone out before this one has, and um, where we went into it in great detail, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because it's a big one. When these big planets change signs or ingress, it's huge.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I mean, with Jupiter entering Leo, it's going to ultimately be crossing your mid-heaven, right? Which is which is in Leo.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's around 12 degrees. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And it's enter and it'll be crossing my ascendant later this year. So I'm thinking I'm liking this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And it's just uh just gonna get bigger, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Love it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But it's it's a huge, it's a huge planet moving into an outgoing party sign.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and um right in the middle of summer. Love it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it invites everyone to live more fully, love more deeply, and radiate their inner brilliance. Yeah. Wow.

SPEAKER_01

Love that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So there's quite a few movements in June. Those are the what those are the main ones we're we're looking at. There are perhaps a few other um aspects and whatnot, but we're not necessarily going to be looking at those. Um, but I think that we've um it's quite a busy month because of Chiron going into Taurus and Jupiter going into Leo, therefore, they are square in the fixed signs.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And um, we're gonna be saying, okay, this is what we're doing. Uh as you say, in the summer, it's gonna be great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, it's fantastic.

SPEAKER_00

It absolutely will be, yeah. Okay, so we'll just give a bit. Of a bit of an overview about the elements. Yeah. And um for June.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're so so we're starting out with kind of a fiery, airy kind of vibe. And those are both what do we say, active, not masculine. Yeah. So there's the active.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, you can't say that. But uh, but yeah, and we say that uh that it's active because and fire because there are planets in the fire signs.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, indeed. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There are we've got uh Neptune, Saturn, and Chiron in fire.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then Jupiter's going into Lear, which is a big shift. Yeah. And then there's quite a lot in air in the Gemini. It's really, it's really it's not even.

SPEAKER_01

And Cluno steel in Aquarius, of course. Forever. Yeah, might as well be.

SPEAKER_00

Forever.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So Gemini has been quite well represented here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and Uranus is also, I believe, in Gemini, yeah. It is, yes. Yeah, so that's a lot of air, a lot of fire. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So both both Gemini and Aries, which we're talking about, the air and the fire are we call them active signs because it's outgoing. The the energy is ejected outwards. Yeah. Whereas the other signs, the passive signs, the energy is absorbed inwards.

SPEAKER_01

Receptive, yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So that's why we used to call like earth and water are receptive.

SPEAKER_01

Receptive, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So this is the thing, it's the it's like the magnet. You've got the positive side and the negative side. We don't want to say that. But back in the day they used to.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, totally, yeah. Masculine negative, positive, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You had negative signs. Oh my goodness. Yeah. We don't say that anymore. And we also don't even mention it to split it down to feminine. No. But no, the polarity of uh active versus passive and receptive versus uh. So this period, this summer, June and into July, and probably August as well, is going to be quite outgoing.

SPEAKER_01

Active. Kind of on the surface. There's not, you know, I mean, always always there will be things happening underneath the surface, but but things are a little more as they seem than usual.

SPEAKER_00

I think so.

SPEAKER_01

Things come to light faster.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And than they have maybe in in other times where where there were a lot more um passive signs in uh dominance.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Personally, I think it's a great time to live your life, to to get things get out there. And of course, as it builds up Gemini cancer and then into Leo, it's just going to be over overbearing, isn't it, when it all just everything's in Leo later on this year.

SPEAKER_01

If you've been hiding some aspect of yourself, worrying that your you know family won't understand something, or hemming and hung about getting that tattoo, or changing your hairstyle, or oh, coming out might not like it, or coming out exactly. Changing jobs because you've been miserable, and or or maybe you know, dropping out of school to do something else and changing your your major or taking a year off, and and you worry what your parents will think, or what they'll think it anyway. Yeah, just it's your life. You're the one who has to go through it, and you're the one who will regret it if you stick with something that isn't making you happy, or that you don't see a future, and uh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I know my mother always just worry about what will the neighbors think. Who cares? She did. She can't what would the neighbors think? It's it's you know, if she did something or other. Right. I don't think you'll think it anyway, just do it, you know. You know, even if you're doing the right thing, they'll think you're doing the wrong thing.

SPEAKER_01

Give them something to talk about.

SPEAKER_00

Give them something to think about. Yeah, that's true. That's a good one. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

If they're gonna talk anyway, give them a chance.

SPEAKER_00

Which they will be, yes, yes. I do think it's important when it's you know, when we get into spring, we're still in spring, well, as we're recording this, and then we are actually moving into summer as we go into June at that solstice, and it's a great time of the year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, it is, absolutely. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it is my favorite time of year.

SPEAKER_00

Summer, oh spring. Oh, summer. Just this period.

SPEAKER_01

Just summer, just yeah. I mean, and luckily where we live, it's summer is I mean, really, we get a good start to summer in late April, usually into May. It's it's it's basically summer. And then we could have a late summer that goes in, you know, through October. Yes. A couple of years ago, we had this heat wave, and I remember um I was paddleboarding with my bestie uh on, I believe it was November 2nd. Good grave. Yeah, that was a definite exception to the rule. We that's not normal, but uh, but it's always that one year that we look back on and we're like, remember that when we were but yeah, usually it at least all the way through September and some sometimes through October, we still have the uh really nice weather.

SPEAKER_00

But it is relative because I'll tell you the first the first year we came here and summer came around because we really landed in September in Canada and enjoyed that winter. And then I we I spring came and I was we were waiting for the summer because we were used to serious heat living in Panavora and it used to hit like 45 degrees on the on the midday sun everywhere crazy, yeah. And um, I'm still waiting for it to heat up and heat up and heat up, and then next thing it's cooling down. I thought, hold a minute.

SPEAKER_01

And everyone's out in their shorts, and you're like, wait a minute, why?

SPEAKER_00

That's these are these jokes about Canada, they're in their shorts. Yeah, and um, but you become next year. I said, I'm not missing a day of summer. The minute I see people out in I need that's my cue. Because I I was waiting for it to get hot and it it did. But now I've adjusted. Yes, and I'm thinking and I'm thinking, and we're sitting here in our tank tops, and it's really, really, yeah, we've it's summer's hit.

SPEAKER_01

I dare say I might I might be that cue for some people because the minute the minute that it is nice out and sunny out, I meet my roller skates, I'm in my tank top, I'm skating down the street. And I've had so many people who I meet up later in the bar or in the elevator, even, and they say, Oh, I saw you skating, and I I waved, but you didn't see me. And I'm like, that's because I'm wearing my headphones and I'm going really fast.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we do see you about the city, Alwyn. We do, we do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so I might be that harbinger of summer.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's great. You're like the the yeah, yeah. Great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the minute it's nice out, I'm yeah. I love it every minute. Yeah. Wow.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So as we always do with these um monthly overarched episodes, I have brought a goddess to be talking. Yeah, and so this is this is straight out of my 2026 calendar. This is the Tune goddess. And this is the African goddess Um Mamiwata, which means Mother Water, and she is a powerful pan-African water goddess, revered in West, Central, and South Africa. She is also um well known throughout the African diaspora. She embodies fertility, healing, wealth, and beauty. She is uh often depicted as a mermaid. So she will have uh she'll have beautiful long hair and sometimes a fishtail, and uh often uh she'll be wrapped in snakes. This is partly because uh she also represents sort of the dangerous, uh, untamed nature of or um nature of water, and water snakes are a thing. But uh but also because she is a snake charmer. And snakes have also um got a lot of um iconography in the healing practices and healing um medicine medicinal um traditions. So, you know, you think of the um uh what's that called with the the the staff with the snake wrapped around it, which is the symbol of uh not the them it begins with an M. Mm-hmm. Caduces, is that it? Yes, yes, um, yeah. But I got you. Yeah, and so the snakes frequently um are a symbol of healing um for some reason, but possibly because their venom, while it can uh kill, it can also uh disinfect. Yes, exactly. Yeah, and could you spell us that name then? I can. It's M-A-M-I-Space W-A-T-A.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, Mama Water. I have never heard of this one. This is brilliant.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so she's uh she's she's uh associated with with the dangerous aspects of nature, but also with uh the a love of nature and just the fecundity of of nature and of water, because uh fresh water specifically, not not not so much the ocean.

SPEAKER_00

So is she the June goddess in your calendar of 2026? Oh, that's in my kitchen. I know exactly who you're in it. You're talking about. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And so um she she grants prosperity, love, good fortune, and uh she will smite you if you disrespect nature. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's good. Yeah, that sounds great. As I say, it's always interesting to get one of your uh goddess of the month because I've never heard of them, and I'm sure many of our listeners haven't either. And I think it's brilliant that you are digging out these goddesses and sharing their myth with us um related to the month that we happen to be in, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's a great it's a great goddess for June because June is also associated very strongly with weddings. Yes, obviously. And uh and weddings are a time where you you wish for love, you wish for prosperity, you you wish for uh sometimes sometimes children. And uh and this involves dancing and music and rituals, uh which you know obviously is very strongly associated with weddings, but uh, but yeah, she's uh she's very much about about um ceremonial um music and offerings and uh and offerings of beauty. So things like mirrors and perfume and lovely jewels and things like this are are are very much in real class.

SPEAKER_00

And I will mention that for our listeners that if you click through to the blog post, I'll put an image of Mama Watu on the on the blog post as well.

SPEAKER_01
