SUPERSET: The BEST Personal Training App For Bookings, Payments, & Programs
Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!
What if your entire coaching business—programming, payments, client feedback, and messaging—lived in one clean, simple place you actually enjoy using? We sit down with Noah, a former baseball player and health coach who joined Superset after discovering how much better training can be when systems work with you, not against you. His story moves from early interests in lifestyle coaching and Z-Health to building features that reflect what coaches really need: speed, clarity, and client results.
We dig into practical training insights first: why vestibular and visual drills belong in warm-ups, how a 30-second eyes-closed balance test reveals coordination gaps, and what that means for athletes and aging clients alike. Then we move into the business backbone. Superset’s spreadsheet-style builder, Superset Sheets, lets you drag in programs from spreadsheets, PDFs, or videos and instantly translate them into a polished client app. AI tools help speed up programming and synthesize client notes so you can adjust plans without drowning in admin. The activity feed centralizes videos, comments, and progress updates, replacing scattered texts with a structured, searchable dialogue.
If you’ve felt the chaos of juggling Excel, Venmo, and endless DMs, the platform’s integrated payments via Stripe, built-in exercise library, and customizable content put everything under one roof. New coaches can use the 14-day trial, add themselves as a test client, and get comfortable with real workflows before onboarding clients. For growing businesses, the pricing scales predictably, and the team ships features based on daily feedback from working coaches—so the product evolves with your needs.

That feature could be a huge game changer for the clients that really make themselves available, give out your phone number, clients texting you at weird times, you feel obligated to get back to them. So, Mr. Noah, thank you for your time, sir.
SPEAKER_00:Thank you for being here. Excited to chat.
SPEAKER_01:So before we get into Super Set, let's kind of learn more about your story and then how did you get into working for this company?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I grew up in San Luis Obispo, California, a small town in between LA and San Francisco. Kind of all always had uh dreams to live in a big city. So I decided after I graduated from undergrad, I was gonna move to New York and pursue grad school. I actually found a roommate um on like a random site, and he ended up being the first hire at Superset. And uh I moved in with him, didn't know at the time that he worked for Superset. We very quickly like hit it off. Within the first two weeks, I was like assisting on sending email campaigns on behalf of Superset. I uh did my first semester of grad school and then eventually went full time with Superset after that. And so the transition was very like smooth. And um I actually ended up not pursuing grad school anymore and decided to go full-time building superset, which is uh kind of why we're here today.
SPEAKER_01:So, did you have a background in this stuff? Like, did you get a degree in kinesiology? You know, what certifications do you have? What was your foundation for this journey?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so growing up, I was always obsessed with like health and wellness. I'd say I was like really early Andrew Fieberman podcast listener, like before he blew up. Like he was who I was listening to all the time. I graduated from Arizona State with a degree in healthy lifestyle coaching. That was kind of like what I was passionate about, um, kind of helping people live healthier lives is something that I write about a lot. I was writing during my college days as well on Medium and kind of being like a self-experimenter, like I was always testing things using like glucose devices and doing different experiments on myself. So I've always been like a student of the health game, if you will. And then um I I before I graduated, I shadowed at a at a gym called Athlon. And uh I the trainer there was really kind of pushing Z health education as like one of the kind of new training developments um that I should like look into and sort of certify with. So I got certified through them, took their like essentials of elite performance, and I think our phase is the other one. I really enjoyed that because as a baseball player growing up, there's a lot of sort of neuro-based training that I think helps athletes a lot, um especially with like vestibular and visual training that can really make a difference on the field and help you perform. So those were things that I was always super passionate about and integrated into like my gym when I eventually went out on my own and started my own coaching business. Still like really big and sort of a fan of their sort of principles and teachings. And I use a lot of their stuff every single day, even before I warm up and go outside for a run.
SPEAKER_01:When I was teaching at MPTI in Santa Monica, there was a trainer, Brandon, and he was a great trainer. But I remember going up to him because I was like, you know, why the fuck was your client wearing an eye patch? And then we start getting talking about his background, and that's when I first discovered Z Health and very big into proprioception vestibular. And that's uh that's a great route to explore it and dig deeper in because a lot of people just read that textbook and they're like, Well, what the hell do I do? But that's awesome.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, one of my favorite uh drills. So when I was like running classes, I had probably anywhere from like 10 to 20 people in a class. And one of my favorite things to do is ask them to, assuming they're like able and safe to do so, is to ask them to stand on one leg and then close their eyes. And you really get a like an assessment of someone's like balance and coordination when you ask them to do that. And so I would I would do it, we'll do 30 seconds each side, and I would say, you know, if you feel like you're gonna fall, just tap your foot to the ground to regain balance, but like try and make it the duration of the 30 seconds. Um, and it's always just a fun thing to like kind of kick off like a group warm-up with because it's different than you know, stretching your tries, like doing hamstring stretch. Um, and people like learn to like love it. I had one athlete uh who is now playing uh softball, is going to play softball in college. And I was like, we had been doing this for two years, and I was like, let's just see how long you can go. She balanced on one leg with her eyes closed for over six minutes, and I was like amazed by it. So it's just like proof in the pudding that if you practice the little stuff every single day, it adds up in a big way.
SPEAKER_01:Absolutely. I mean, I believe there's a it could be a study, I could be misquoting this, but there's some correlation with being able to stand on one leg with your eyes closed for 15 seconds. And it's really scary because a lot of your elderly clients they can't even stand on one leg with their eyes open. So if you look at walking downstairs, you can't stabilize in the frontal plane, you fall, you break a hip, you know, 50% of people who break a hip die within 12 months. So that vestibular system is fascinating. So, you know, we could have a whole entire podcast on that, but we're here today to talk about superset. So for the listeners that haven't heard of Superset, can you give us a breakdown, some of the great offerings that you have within the app and who is it directed for?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So Superset, uh, we're a platform for trainers, coaches, gyms to sort of like automate their business, uh, deliver programming to clients. We offer payments, scheduling, uh, messaging, everything that you might want to do with your clients, you can do through Superset. I've been there for three years now, and the product has evolved in a really big way. We are now introducing a lot of like AI into Superset to make programming faster, give coaches the ability to sort of like automate some of the client reporting elements and get feedback from their clients and use that feedback to better inform programming moving forward. I'd say what we're most known for is Superset Sheets, which is our spreadsheet style workout builder. So we know that coaches love programming in spreadsheets because it's simple, easy to use. And we said, like, why not like reinvent the wheel with like an annoying software product? Why don't we just build like what already works? So we built a sort of spreadsheet workout builder, superset sheets, and now has the ability for you to drag and drop a spreadsheet or a video, uh a photo or a PDF, any sort of piece of content. And then it will turn and translate that into a superset sheets program. The benefit of this is obviously you're able to take that and assign it to your clients in a nice, clean looking app. I think that's probably one of the main reasons people choose to go with Superset 2, is just because it's like simple and easy to use and like looks good everywhere for the coach and client.
SPEAKER_01:So when I manage my current book of business, I have just a handful of clients. So people will ask me, well, what do you do, Chris? I said, I'm not the best person to talk to because I just use Excel, then I have to go to my Square, I have to invoice them. If I want to film a workout, I'll have to film that. I would have to write my program in a book. This just kind of brings it all together. There's a really nice synergy here. So you pull up the app and then boom, you got everything within there. You don't have to worry about Square the app or anything because you have a third party that's within the app that you can invoice and everything and get paid through there, correct?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's right. So anything that you might want to set up with a client, you can do. You can sign up for a superset account and set up a client payment offer and get paid out the next day through a Stripe. We partner with Stripe to make payments happen and makes it a breeze. And that way you don't have to like chase down Venmos or worry about uh reporting. It's all kind of centralized in one place for you to work with.
SPEAKER_01:And how about the communication? Is there an opportunity in there to communicate with clients?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so coaches can message with their clients. Um, you can also, one of my favorite things is actually we have this feature called an activity feed where clients completing workouts can submit feedback to their coaches. And the same way that like an Instagram feed works where it's like displaying kind of the most recent um activity at the top, that's kind of what you can kind of log into. You can use your keyboard to kind of like tab down the list of things. I have I still coach, even though I work at Superset. So I have a bunch of clients within Superset that I like to come in, we'll see any sort of videos that my clients submitted or photos that they submitted, as well as any notes. And that's just like more sort of context for the coach and gives the coach the ability to comment back onto uh those notes, and you can have a full-on dialogue between uh the coach and client directly within the activity feed, which is really cool.
SPEAKER_01:That feature could be a huge game changer for the clients that really make themselves available, give out your phone number, clients texting you at weird times, you feel obligated to get back to them. But if you could just go in there and say, hey, this is the workout, you communicate in there. If you're late, communicate with me. If you set those very clear expectations as a trainer that my phone, I'm not gonna respond, I only do it through superset, then your clients are gonna understand that and it's gonna make your life so much easier.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely. I think the benefit of having a platform like Superset is you are instilling a system or a playbook of sorts on how you can run your business with the complete like flexibility to do it any which way you want, but those kind of like underlying systems and architecture to make it actually a breeze when you go to go to do it.
SPEAKER_01:So I got a quote here from a trainer from a Reddit group. One of my favorite things to do is drink a bunch of whiskey and go down in the depths of hell of Reddit and see what everyone's doing. And I really like this post. It says, Hello, all, just got my NASA certification, but basically means nothing because I don't know where to go from here. My question, where do I start? Do I try finding clients first, do business things first, figure out programming first? Truly lost. That's one of the things I talk about in my book, How to Become a Successful Trainer, is that 90% of trainers quit within the first year because it's unfortunate that they're not set up for success. So the basics are programming and assessments and so forth. But this client would really benefit from having your guys' app because they would at least have somewhere to go where you're thinking you go online, okay. I got to open up a get an F E I N number because I have to have to have a business. And then I need to create all these videos where I can send people if I want to do online programming. And then I got to sign up for Square. But if that client were to get your app, can you kind of walk me through what they would get and the how it really clean up a lot of that process? But also what happens when they get 10 clients, 30 clients, 50 clients, how much do they have to pay?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So when you kind of sign up for a superset account, we offer a 14-day free trial to anyone. So they're more than welcome to come try it out and check it out. One of the things that I like to recommend just like right off the bat is add yourself as a client, add your like mom or your sister as a client and get some like real reps at like assigning a program to a client, uh, setting up a payment offer. It could even be like a test payment, uh, messaging the client, seeing how all the like systems work within Superset. And I would recommend that just like generally across any platform that you you try out, assuming you can. And then uh if you're you know happy with it, you can kind of like move forward with it. We have a couple of different options. Our our pricing has evolved over the last couple of months and years as we've like serviced different businesses. We're really focusing on working with gyms and sort of like uh coaches that have you know clients already. But we have one of the cool things about Super Set is we've built a business where you know over a thousand businesses of independent coaches rely on us every single day to kind of like run their business and work with their clients. So they would be able to come in and get started right away. We have uh a lot of like uh free coach resources that make getting set up uh really easy. So one of our most popular sort of freebies, if you will, is like we have this library of 50 plus free resources. This is anything from a Google Sheet workout template to a high protein meal guide for your clients. So we really kind of like make the zero to one really easy and seamless. Um and there's a lot of education materials in there as well. I think the benefit of signing up for Superset to start your business is you're getting like a proven system that works for a lot of other businesses. Um, and with that, you get the ability to scale. So when you add your first client, uh, it works really well. And when you add your thousandth client, it also works really well. And we've been with coaches and businesses across the spectrum. Like we've seen coaches come in with one to two clients just starting their business and have scaled to you know over a million dollars a year doing it online, which is really cool.
SPEAKER_01:And so that trainer, is there a pricing structure? So like the first 10 clients are free, or after those 14 days, does it start being 10 bucks a month, 100 bucks a month? What does that pricing structure look like?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so our pro plan is$99 per month right now. With that, you get up to 25 clients uh for free. And then the way we kind of like grow with businesses is we offer sort of like custom business pricing, but you can also add as many clients as you want to the pro plan um for a dollar client after that.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, that's that's crazy. That's really uh a great deal. If you have 100 clients, then you're paying 25 plus 75. So that's not bad at all. And a hiccup may be that they're thinking, I gotta create all these videos. Do they have to do that? Or do you guys have like a library that they have access to? And what if they wanted to film their own videos? Could they upload those into the platform?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, they can do both. So with every superset account, you get a library of over a thousand exercise videos kind of pre-populated. That makes it super easy to just like get started. Um, we also give coaches the ability to upload their own content or swap out existing content. So if you come across an exercise video within superset and you're like, I actually want something else, I want myself or another instructor to kind of run it, you can switch it out super easily. Uh, we have a few coaches that like have only programmed videos from their library, but there's you know a lot of businesses that rely on just our preset uh set of exercises as well.
SPEAKER_01:I think of maybe a competitor, I like to put them into the category like NASA, like trainerize. I see it as like, uh, you know, everyone always talks about it, but I've never really been impressed with it. And that's why I was really allured to your guys' product because not only is the name better, it's like superset, you know what we're talking about. Trainerize sounds like fucking jazzerize. Like, what the hell does that even mean? Yeah. And so, you know, why should someone choose you over one of your competitors?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, great question. I think a lot of the existing tools that are out there uh are hard to use and require a lot of clicks and navigating around. Superset, uh, formerly our co-founders were, you know, uh at companies like Google, Airbnb, Spotify. And they come, they bring this like element of like product design that makes things like really simple and enjoyable, both for the coach and the client. We hear coaches all the time switching from trainized, true coach, uh, train heroic, that when they come to Superset, it's just easy. It's just like simple and easy, and they really like that. The other big thing I think the reason to switch over is like programming isn't an actual breeze for coaches inside of Superset. It's just a very welcoming experience to do something in a spreadsheet, have it translate into an app and a very seamless experience. Those are probably the two biggest reasons that like coaches switch over from these existing platforms. And not to mention, we're like a relatively new company compared to a lot of these other ones. So we integrate feedback every single day. Like we are talking to coaches, booths on the ground. Um, I basically live in this phone booth talking to businesses and gyms and trying to get the feedback that they need to you know improve the product and have make it have a bigger impact in their business.
SPEAKER_01:Shout out to Mr. Cam outside of uh screwing up the name. It's H, it's Hemmerick, or uh, it's in um Tennessee, Nashville outside of and Hemet, I believe. But he said he, I think you don't know if he chatted with you or someone else, but he was a big advocate. He's like, nope, this is legit. He's like, I've I've tried, I've done the other ones, not impressed. This one really liked it. So we have the proof in the pudding. People have tried it, so definitely make that switch. How would people sign up? Do they go to the app store or do they need to go to a website? How can they begin?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so you can go to supersetapp.com um and you can sign up for free trial there. I'd also encourage everyone if they would like to send me an email, Noah at supersetapp.com. I'd love to offer like a demo um and show you around superset. And you know, we can get you set up with however you however you want to.
SPEAKER_01:You're gonna get a bunch of people reaching out, make sure that you say you heard it from the podcast, mentioned show up right, and you're gonna get uh taken care of great customer service and really impressed by your guys' company. So thank you for the time today, my man.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, thanks so much, Chris.
SPEAKER_01:All righty.
