Speaker 1:

What's up y'all? Dj EST another episode of Honest Wedding Advice right here, 2025. We are in February and today I'm talking about a DJ performance. Does a DJ really need to perform at your wedding or does a DJ need to play the right music? It's a huge question.

Speaker 1:

A lot of people are paying for a DJ to go out there and set their soundtrack for their upcoming event or their event that they're having that night, depending upon what part of the planning process and staging process you're in. Most djs you know they just stand back there and they're behind a facade and they push some buttons and you hear what's going on and you dance and it's sort of like I don't want to use the word spotify or apple music because that's not what it is but they're back there putting together a soundtrack for your day and you are the centerpiece of that soundtrack. Then there are what we call performance DJs and those are the DJs that either don't use a facade or stand out in front of their facade so you can see everything that they're doing, and those DJs are usually mixed turntablist or guys who use control vinyl or guys who use motorized platters and are out there and you can kind of see what they're doing as they're doing it. So it's a more of a. It's more of a show than it is. You know, like last night I watched the grammys and if you guys did catch the grammys last night, there are singers but there are accompanying dancers to go along with what's going on. Now some people just stand up there and they play their instruments, like Billie Eilish was amazing. She doesn't need dancers, that's just who she is and she's beloved because of it. But you know, between like Dolce and and Sabrina Carpenter and Chapel Rowan last night, you know a lot of what they did was a show. You know that big pink pony that pink pony club skit wouldn't have been the same without that big pink pony out there. Dolce's Dolce lookalikes that were everywhere were amazing. And Sabrina Carpenter's funny 1930s vibe that came all the way up to the 2025 vibe and all of her dancers and how they incorporated everything into that, like that was so wretched. I mean that that was just ratchet, that was just cool, you know, I mean so there are a lot of different ways to go about this and it just depends on you and what you're looking for for your DJ or from your DJ.

Speaker 1:

You know you can have a guy that comes out there or or a girl sorry that comes out there and puts on a show and is part of your show and it's sort of like a performance where you're watching something and experiencing something at the same time and you're a part of something. Or you can be on the dance floor and there's somebody back there who's DJing, but it's not really a piece of what's going on in front of you. So it's like having a band or having a front man and they're not really contributing to your dance floor or to your vibe other than musically and a couple of things on the microphone, versus guys who come out there and dance around with you and spin records and and are really part of your show and their difference between a performance DJ and I don't know what the word is. I mean I don't want to say a regular DJ, because that's not true, it's not really it's called a regular DJ. But you know, when you go to a festival overseas and you see somebody like Deadmau5 or the Swedish House Mafia or DJs from Mars or guys like that or even like Diplo, like you see a show, I mean it is a show that they're putting on, where a guy like Jazzy Jeff, god man, jazzy Jeff, I'm from Philly. I mean, that is God to us. You know he is more of a. You know he's just a guy that just plays great music, knows how to mix, and he's not out there dancing around. I mean, he's just jazzy fucking jeff. I mean that's what he had will smith for, or vice versa, that's what will smith had jazzy jeff for.

Speaker 1:

You know, I'm the dj, I'm the rapper, I'm the mc, I'm the dj. So you know, it just depends on what you're looking for. I am a perform, I. I am a performance dj, I perform. Now. Can I be a behind the the facade dj? Absolutely so.

Speaker 1:

I am what we would call in the football field, um, or a football game, cause the Eagles and chiefs are coming up Diehard Eagles, fango birds. Uh, you know I can hand the ball off, I can throw a bomb down the field, I can manage a game, um, I could take the game over. You know, I am multiversal. I am the Heisman trophy winning um, starting first round draft pick. That's me, and that's only because of my skill set.

Speaker 1:

You know trent dilfer in back in 2000, if you guys remember this, uh, when the baltimore ravens won the super bowl. He didn't have to do much except manage the ball. You know, their defense did everything and trent sort of won the super bowl just by not fumbling. And, um, he was really good at not fumbling. I mean mean, his job was to call snaps, hand the ball over, dump and ditch and not drop it on the ground. And that's what he did and they won a Super Bowl because of it. So there are numerous ways of getting to the finish line. It's just a matter of what you're looking for at your event and how you want that DJ to get to that checkered flag. So great advice, I.
