Nicholas Hogle

In October of 2023, I participated in a Fundamentals Course with Global Underwater Explorers. I had many ideas of what I thought this course would be. I had many misconceptions going in, and the goal of this series is to highlight the misconceptions one might have about GUE and their standard of training. I sit down and speak with five instructors across the globe to hear their stories and gain some insight into this agency whose approach “Begins with the end in mind”.

Most of my growing up was in New Hampshire, so it’s always nice to speak with a fellow New Englander. I had a wicked good time sitting down with Meredith “Mer” Tanguay and hearing about her journey through the sport. The cold and demanding diving environment of the North East pushed her to seek a higher level of training, which led her to a Fundies course in 2003. In this episode, we speak about the early days of GUE, her pathway to becoming an instructor, Wet Rocks Diving, Recreational Training with GUE, and some common misconceptions about training with Global Underwater Explorers. Please enjoy.
