Kia ora, He uri ahau nō Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga, me Rongomaiwahine. Ko Maija Stephens ahau. Ko Kaihanga whakaahua ahau. I am an emerging artist/photographer and I am committed to enhancing spaces through the expression and reclamation of my indigeneity. 

I grew up in Te Kuiti, my whānau are from Heretaunga and I am based in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara.
 My practice surrounds issues concerning Te Taiao (the environment), kaitiakitanga, whakapapa, and my experience as a wahine Māori. I aim to indigenise the medium of photography itself through the way I wield the camera in engaging with mātauranga Māori. This takes form in conceptual, studio and documentary photography/videography.
