Laid-Back Golf Lifestyle with Wes Loman of The Salty Golfer
How are we doing? Who do you want to learn from next? Text us with notes and ideas.
Ever wondered what happens when you build a golf brand for people who care more about the beer cooler than their scorecard? Wes Loman, founder of The Salty Golfer, joins us from Dig South to share how he's created a thriving golf lifestyle brand that puts fun first.
Founded in 2019, The Salty Golfer embodies a refreshingly casual approach to a traditionally stuffy sport. "We throw a party and golf gets in the way," Wes explains, describing how his brand appeals to golfers who might not make birdies or pars consistently but still want to look good on the links. Their most popular t-shirt bears the motto "Play fast because the ice is melting" – a nod to keeping pace so the beers stay cold, not because of any climate concerns.
The brand has expanded beyond apparel to include "The Salty," a crushable 4.2% ABV pineapple blonde beer now available at prestigious locations like Kiawah Island and The Sanctuary. But what truly sets The Salty Golfer apart is their role as trusted insiders for the 86 golf courses along Myrtle Beach's Grand Strand. Wes and his team provide real-time feedback on course conditions, answer questions about aeration schedules, and often join groups that need an extra player – creating authentic connections with their community.
Looking ahead, Wes revealed plans for an eight-episode series debunking ridiculous golf course reviews, including complaints about courses being "built backwards" because the sun gets in players' eyes. With partnerships with major equipment manufacturers and a growing presence across social media platforms, The Salty Golfer continues to redefine what golf culture can be – less uptight, more inclusive, and always ready for a good time.
Ready to embrace the laid-back golf lifestyle? Follow The Salty Golfer on all social platforms or visit TheSaltyGolfer.com to join the party that occasionally gets interrupted by golf.

We're keeping the energy going.
Speaker 2:This is like our fourth or fifth interview.
Speaker 3:This is fun.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, we've been fourth or fifth.
Speaker 3:I'm about back and clean up, maybe, no, no, we're here all day. We're here all day.
Speaker 2:We're here all day. It's all about the content, baby.
Speaker 3:You know all about content, I do know all about content, yes, so we have Wes Lohman, I already spelled your name wrong on my thing, but Wes Lohman, l-o-m-a-n I added an L.
Speaker 1:The.
Speaker 3:Salty Golfer, lohman Lohman. Yeah, I've been called worse so you right?
Speaker 2:yeah, we, we founded started the salty golfer back in 2019. We're a laid-back lifestyle golf brand I couldn't be any more jealous.
Speaker 3:Yeah, golf apparel hats, t-shirts oh my gosh, where's my?
Speaker 1:I love it, I am in myrtle beach, south carolina okay, the golf capital of the world.
Speaker 3:No kidding, I actually live in uh surfside, which is a little bit south of that.
Speaker 1:Really good food in Surfside too.
Speaker 3:Yes, yeah, man. We just kind of throw a party and golf gets in the way. That's kind of how we look at things.
Speaker 2:So would you be considered like a good good?
Speaker 3:Man, I'm too old to be a good good.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 3:Okay, I'm with you. I am for those people that don't always make birdies, don't always make pars, bogeys are hard, but you want to look good doing it. Yeah, we want to look good doing it and we have a slogan like play fast because the ice is melting, you know, like the coolers.
Speaker 1:I love that.
Speaker 2:Yeah we got to get back to the cooler. I love that. That's awesome. Not because not the literal ice, because you wouldn't be golfing in Antarctica, no, we're talking about the ice in the actual, because the beers are going to get hot.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the ice in the actual. Cooler, right, right, right.
Speaker 3:Okay, that's good. It's our most popular t-shirt, so you have a beer too. We do have a beer. It's called the Salty. It's a pineapple blonde. Oh my favorite, it's a 4.2. My wife's a pineapple blonde. You can drink it. Yeah, and we just wanted to make something super crushable, like you're sitting on the beach all day. Yeah, you could drink four or five of them. Do you have any on you right now? I do not.
Speaker 1:I should have. Where is this apparel?
Speaker 3:Is it?
Speaker 1:around somewhere. Get off my set, Wes. It is not around Everything is the SaltyGolfercom.
Speaker 3:You know what? If I had known I was coming on the pod, I could totally agree, next time Get out. Yeah, sorry, I apologize.
Speaker 1:No, that's amazing.
Speaker 2:So there's another golf influencer Eric Lottery, Eric Lotto. Maybe, L-O-T-T-O or something like that.
Speaker 1:I'm not a golfer. Dude's a badass. I come golf with me and my husband let's do it I didn't.
Speaker 3:I played field hockey, so I feel like you know I got a little bit of a swing, sure, great time you know there's a lot of hockey players that are really good golfers yeah, yeah for sure, for sure golfers, uh, hockey players yeah yeah, yeah, very true story. That's awesome. Okay, where did you play field like high school school College?
Speaker 1:I played in high school.
Speaker 3:Did you?
Speaker 1:I was a forward.
Speaker 3:Are you from here? I am not. No one's from here.
Speaker 2:I know I'm from Virginia, I'm from still like the south, so I'm from Virginia. Sure, yeah, play field hockey.
Speaker 1:It was fun Good for you. But we live in Dunes West. It's a really great golf community.
Speaker 2:You know what? That's my favorite. I would love Shout out to Dunes West.
Speaker 3:I've never been there Heard so many good things about it.
Speaker 1:Oh, good We'll take you somewhere.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I would absolutely love that We'll do a foursome.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we'll do a foursome.
Speaker 2:That'd be fun.
Speaker 1:You're Matt and you can hold a camera or something.
Speaker 2:Absolutely fun.
Speaker 3:Yep, wait, so are you Play fast.
Speaker 2:So the whole golfing not good by any means, all right so that's, that's the.
Speaker 3:That's the common misconception you get with a salty golfer, because we host groups all year long too like we're out there playing with you, like that's kind of what separates.
Speaker 2:Who's we bud, who's we like?
Speaker 3:people that slide in the dms like, hey, coming down here in myrtle beach, we've only got he's my brother.
Speaker 2:This is my brother from another mother.
Speaker 3:Here it's like hey, we've only got three, or we've only got seven, we need one more to create the Right. I'll do it with you.
Speaker 2:No kidding, I don't give a shit, let's go play.
Speaker 1:Are you bringing?
Speaker 2:cameras Like what are you bringing with you? Do you have a crew?
Speaker 3:that comes with you I do have. We just call them friends. They're not necessarily a crew but there's friends.
Speaker 3:These with a salty golfer is people we give feedback of how the courses are in real time. Right, okay, because we have 86 golf courses on the grand strand in a 60 mile stretch, so we're out there playing. I'm giving them real time like, hey, this course is in great shape and we get a lot of dms, a lot of emails like, hey, we're coming down in blah, blah, blah. Yeah, where should we play? Right, like are they aerating the greens this week, right?
Speaker 2:So it's kind of like an important question, steph, I don't know if you know that, but if they're aerating the greens when you're down there and you paid, sometimes full price.
Speaker 3:But they don't tell you ahead of time Well, sometimes Not all the time, but you have to know where to find that information. Or sometimes they might have to do it early because there's been too much sun or not enough rain or all kinds of stuff we're giving these people the inside scoop. We're creating content with head pros, GMs.
Speaker 2:Are you getting some brands? Yeah, nice you got Callaway and Pink.
Speaker 3:I'm on staff with Strixon, so am I Are you really.
Speaker 1:We'll work on that. That's really cool, though, yeah.
Speaker 2:I'd like to manifest something like that. Yeah, we can figure something out. Now are you wearing?
Speaker 1:like the really cool, like you look snazzy today.
Speaker 3:Are you wearing like the cool golf pants that are no, Okay, I bought some of If you wear a white belt.
Speaker 1:That screams. I have no idea what I'm doing. I got a black belt on.
Speaker 3:Good, you're in good company, like. Don't wear a white belt Unless you can shoot under par or your waist size is below a 32. Don't be putting a white belt on Got it.
Speaker 1:Do you have a?
Speaker 2:lineup Delaney. Are these people lined up waiting for us? They are, I hope, so I could talk to you all freaking day.
Speaker 3:They could be lined up to see me, maybe, maybe, maybe.
Speaker 1:I feel like I've met a celebrity, oh stop. You're going to come golf with me and Mike.
Speaker 2:We're going to do it. Gasser said that he does the most content out of anybody in this whole building. Look at you.
Speaker 1:I don't know. If that's true, you have a big personality, a big aura. I want to watch it right now the best in all the world, yeah.
Speaker 3:And we just had a lot of fun Awesome.

Speaker 2:Patriot's Point.
Speaker 1:Okay, I've been corrected.
Speaker 2:It's got potential the potential is amazing, right on the water, the views are beautiful right, oh, but the views are better than the course.
Speaker 1:What do you think is the best course in Charleston?
Speaker 3:Charleston oh, I haven't played enough of them.
Speaker 1:Oh good, Well, we're going to correct that.
Speaker 3:World of golf at myrtle, yeah, world tour, that's it. World tour, yeah, they have um. Each golf hole is inspired they say don't say copy.
Speaker 1:Is this like a hard rock restaurant? I'm imagining the world of golf to be like a hard rock restaurant well, they it's inspired, by actual courses yeah all across.
Speaker 2:Each hole is different. Yeah, like augusta.
Speaker 3:Like the masters, there's three holes. Yeah, like a man corner. They have a man corner, yeah augMan Corner from Augusta out there.
Speaker 1:Awesome, I was out there.
Speaker 3:I filmed content with a crew last week out there, okay.
Speaker 1:We had a good time.
Speaker 3:So we're working on something right now. This is great. What do you got? What do you got? Yeah, so you have all of these different channels on Facebook and Instagram. Yeah, reviews, right, people go in and they review these golf courses. We're going to do an eight episode series and we're going in and debunking all of these crazy reviews. People are leaving.
Speaker 2:Debunking the bad reviews. Stop it, Wes.
Speaker 1:You know how hard it is to get bad reviews taken down Brutal.
Speaker 3:There was one review that said that this golf course was built backwards because the sun is in your eyes on the back.
Speaker 2:nine I was like, all right, well, we gotta go, we gotta go debunking that one. Yeah, that's amazing. Yeah, well, thank you guys for having me. Congratulations for sure for sure, for sure.
Speaker 3:I'm serious, we got to make the thing we're gonna make it happen.
Speaker 2:So we got wes yes, he's, yeah, she's gonna dm you, she's not afraid to slide in your dms. I am not afraid of that. I use slide in my DMs too. That's what we were laughing about. Make it creepy right.
