Hey, do you ever find yourself daydreaming about, I don't know, maybe a bigger church, maybe a more influential platform, maybe a ministry that has no money problems or more resources? It's a common temptation, especially when the challenges in your current role seem absolutely overwhelming. But what if the key to a fulfilling ministry isn't just about finding a perfect place, but about making your current place really great? We're going to talk about that today here on the Healthy Church Staff Podcast. Thanks for joining me. My name is Todd Rhodes. I'm one of the co-founders over at chemistrystaffingcom and I'm your host right here on the Healthy Church Staff Podcast.
Speaker 1:Rick Warren. I love Rick and he always has just great quotes. I think only a quarter of them are his. He says that he grabs quotes from people all over and shares them, but one of his quotes is stop wishing for a place of great ministry. Instead, make your place of ministry great. It's simple, it's profound, but it's a message that challenges us to shift our focus from where we want to be to actually where we are.
Speaker 1:So how do you make your current ministry great? A lot of times, it just starts with a shifted perspective. Instead of seeing limitations as roadblocks, maybe you look at those limitations as opportunities for creativity and innovation. Remember, some of the most impactful ministries were born out of scarcity, not abundance. I think it's Craig Groeschel that says every big innovation that they've ever had has come out of scarcity. So what are some practical ways, some steps that you can take to try and cultivate a thriving ministry right where you are? And I understand some of you are in a terrible position and it may be next to impossible to create this thriving ministry where you are. But a lot of us are just feeling down and just feeling we just like to be doing something else or be a little further along in the journey where we are than what we are right. So here's some practical steps. First of all, embrace where you are currently. Embrace your current reality. Stop comparing your church to others. You're always going to lose that game because there's always churches that are bigger and better, at least in your eyes, than your church. But stop comparing your church to others or longing for those green pastures, greener pastures. Instead, focus on unique strengths and gifts, and God has given you resources. Use those resources that have been entrusted to you so far and to your congregation. So embrace your current reality and stop the comparison game.
Speaker 1:Second of all, love your people really well. Ministry is ultimately about people. Invest in relationships, listen to the people's needs, serve them with love and compassion and remember the greatest impact that you can have often happens in the context of authentic connection. Matter of fact, most of the candidates or a lot of the candidates that we talk to that are looking for different places of ministry have just found it really hard to love people where they are. And I get it, man. People are difficult and loving people is difficult sometimes. But when it's in your power and even when it's not, try ultimately to invest in relationships and invest in people. Okay. So love your people.
Speaker 1:Lead with passion and vision. Don't just go through the motions. Cast a compelling vision for your ministry. Communicate it with passion. Inspire others to join you on the journey. It, with passion, inspires others. Inspire others to join you on the journey, and it could be that maybe you just need a couple of days away to go and get alone with God and have him really refresh that vision and passion that you have for your ministry where you are in your current reality.
Speaker 1:Number four empower and equip your team. You can't do it all on your own, and don't try to. You need to recruit and train and empower volunteers to share the load in ministry and it takes time. You need to invest in their development. You need to create a culture of collaboration and shared ownership. But just having other people on your team other people to love and this goes with relationships too other people to love and other people to help you hand-in-hand do ministry from a volunteer standpoint is huge.
Speaker 1:And then, lastly, celebrate big wins. I doubt that you, wherever you are, no matter how bad it is that God is not doing something in your midst. What is God doing that you can celebrate? You don't have to wait for the over-the-top, home-run grand achievements to celebrate. You can recognize and appreciate small victories along the way, and this will help build momentum, it'll help boost morale and it really does create a sense, not only in yourself but in others, a sense of progress and purpose. So remember, guys and gals, it's not all about the size of your church or your platform or the resources at your disposal. It's really about how you are faithfully stewarding what God has given you and loving the people that he's given you and placed in your path, and how you're making the most of those current opportunities.
Speaker 1:So here's the bottom line for today, and I want you to hear me here the grass isn't always greener on the other side. The grass is greener. As Rick says, grass is greener where you water it. So invest your time and your energy and your passion in your current ministry and you might be surprised at how quickly things can begin to thrive and change and be impactful, and how much more fulfilled you will feel. Right where you are, and how much more fulfilled you will feel right where you are, right where you're playing.
