Setting boundaries is a fundamental skill that we must practice and master in order to have healthy connections with the important people in our life. However, it is something that many people struggle with throughout their life.

In this episode, we explore the concept of boundaries. We start by reviewing how boundary setting fits into the overall process of healing anger and defusing it before it disrupts our relationships and success in life. We examine the connection between setting boundaries and the fundamental psychological concept of locus of control

Working from this foundation, we work through the actual process of setting effective boundaries with another person. Using a work situation as an illustration, we go step-by-step through the process and explain how to develop, practice, and establish a healthy limit with someone who may be violating our boundary.

In the last section of the episode, we discuss some common obstacles people experience that get in the way of learning and using this important relationship skill. We touch on the reasons why boundaries are essential for good relationships, we examine the role played by the lack of practical communication skills, and we address the fear of conflict.

The episode concludes on a hopeful note, emphasizing the straightforward nature of boundary setting as a practical communication skill that can be learned, practiced, and used in daily life. When we learn to become comfortable setting effective boundaries, we build up our self-confidence and open the door to more connected and more fulfilling relationships.
