FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

Well, my friend, we are two weeks into the new year. If you're feeling the itch to speed up because a slow and gentle start feels unfamiliar or maybe unproductive, I encourage you to recommit. When you take this first month of the year to softly sort through your thoughts, feelings, and desires, you lay the groundwork for decisions that come from wisdom, not habit. You are filled with wisdom, even if it feels hard to tap into. Keep listening for three practices to help you find your wisdom, listen to it more confidently, and build self-trust as you move forward. Welcome to the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. I'm Karli your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, Life and Wellness Coach and community builder for women in midlife and beyond. I'm so happy to have you here, my friend. Are you ready for those three practices? Awesome. I can't wait to share them with you. Here we go. Let's start with a practice that helps your wisdom break through the noise that often gets in the way. Practice One is, when facing a decision, check in with your body. Often as we encounter choices, our ego rushes in to make that decision. This practice is about giving your ego some love and encouraging it to patiently wait in the wings. Your body tends to have a better relationship with your inner wisdom than your ego does. It makes sense to pay attention to how your body responds to the options you're considering during decision making. It will take practice, my friend. So start doing this for low risk decisions you make throughout the day. It can be as simple as choosing between types of movement, what to eat, what task you do next. Tell your ego to sit one out and give yourself options. Do I want to walk or ride my bike? What sounds better to me right now, a hearty salad or a sandwich? Do I feel like doing laundry or running errands? Check in with your body as you consider the options. What do its subtle signals tell you? You'll be more adept at noticing how your wisdom speaks up through your body and can then apply this practice to the big decisions you make, too. The next practice helps alleviate the overwhelm that can cause your inner wisdom to get lost. Practice number two is to reduce external input. If you consume a lot of content, your inner wisdom may get buried underneath it all. Since you're here with me, I assume you're interested in learning and growing. You probably read, listen, and watch to satisfy these interests. Then there's the scrolling you do on your device that is in quotes here, "entertainment". More information coming into your being is what it is. Even if these are under the guise of research, your inner wisdom has a hard time bubbling up under its weight. Get intentional, my friend, about the content you put into your mind. Minimize or eliminate advice and opinions. Too. If you want your inner wisdom to guide you, it needs a clear path to reach you. The third practice helps build confidence and trust in your inner wisdom. Practice number three is to notice patterns and honor nudges. Another way your wisdom may communicate with you is through repetition and intuition. All three of these practices, and the one I shared with you in this week's email, help you notice. They ground you in your body and the present so you can hear and trust your wisdom. Think about a time when you had a thought or feeling that kept appearing. Maybe it was a quiet nudge you kept brushing off, a recurring idea you just couldn't shake, or a sense that something needed your attention. Inner wisdom is patient and rarely dramatic- sometimes it is. But it repeats itself through thoughts, emotions, sensations, or subtle pulls until you listen. This practice is about enhancing your skill of awareness and trusting what you notice. Start by acknowledging the patterns. Say to yourself, I see you, I'm listening. Then go a bit further to honor those nudges that you feel. Each time you do, you reinforce a powerful message to yourself- I trust me. All three of these practices tuning into your body, reducing external input and noticing patterns and following those nudges help you slow down enough to hear what's already there. They strengthen your ability to recognize your wisdom and build confidence in responding to it.
