FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

I'm Karli, your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, Life and Wellness Coach and Community Builder for women in midlife and beyond. I love bringing these bite-sized episodes to you every week. Thank you for showing up, thinking about what I have to say, and using the information that feels right for you to enhance your well-being in midlife and beyond. Your intentional start to the year means insights are already available to you. Noticing those insights doesn't always come easily, however. If this is new to you, you may not know the practices that allow you to notice. If you are further along on your self-awareness and listening journey, it might be helpful for you to have another option at the ready. Sometimes a block requires a different approach. I've learned that, my friend. I am someone who likes to have more than one tool on hand. So today I'm sharing a few things that work for me when I want to notice how far I've traveled. First, are mindfulness practices like meditation, walking, or even brief check-ins throughout the day. Mindfulness is about being fully in the present moment. While in this space, you can notice thoughts, emotions, and body sensations without judging or reacting to them. Mindfulness opens the door for insights to walk through. Learn how to make this happen, and you'll be amazed at what it does for you. A tool I use to help me is the Insight Timer app. I am a diehard fan. It's something I use daily to listen to guided meditations, affirmations, nature sounds, and instrumental music. There's more available on the app too that I don't really use, you might really love it. When I'm listening, I feel waves of calm come over me and it's easier to reflect and listen when I'm in this state. Mindful walks are another favorite of mine. Give me 15 minutes to walk while tuning into each of my senses, and it's like a magic eraser went through my mind! It's pretty phenomenal to me how much that helps me open my mind, open my heart, and allow insights to show themselves. I've landed on what helps me. Explore the many options out there to discover what works for you. Reflective journaling or expressive writing is another way to notice where you are. This is a science-backed tool for gaining clarity and insight. Through writing, you may see patterns. What has felt vague or just out of reach will become clear on the page. I'm not a consistent journaler, but writing is one of the first things I lean on when I want to discover answers to questions I'm asking. I find it helpful when I feel stuck and when I want to assess where I am. Inevitably, I uncover nuggets that might not have come to me otherwise. Last are body-based practices like body scans, gentle movement or breath work. These practices focus your attention on physical sensations and enable you to recognize the clues that are in your body. Trust me, they're there. For me, this practice has taken effort. I was not accustomed to listening to what my body was telling me. I think that's probably more common than not. Before I started listening and paying attention to my body, I would just push through, hold onto stress and experience burnout. I stuffed a lot of emotions down into my body. Maybe you can relate to this too. Because this has been challenging for me, I now include some of these body-based practices in my daily routines and it's really helped me. But I still have to be very intentional when it comes to using body-based practices. These are a few practices that work for me. Find what works for you to acknowledge and celebrate what is shifting inside of you, my friend. The awareness that comes to you is the foundation for wise choices you'll make in the future, and it's one of the wonderful things about midlife and beyond. You are full of wisdom. Here we are at the end of another episode. Thank you for joining me. You are in the midst of a beautiful journey, my friend. Try new practices or lean into the ones you've already honed. Where you are is worth acknowledging and celebrating. I'd love to know what practices and tools you use to notice where you are. Send me an email at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com to share them with me. I can't wait to meet you right here again next week. Be well my friend.
