FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

What if you could feel really good more often with three small changes that didn't require an overhaul at all? Today, I'm sharing three simple habits you can plug into your day, plus what makes them especially powerful for women in midlife and beyond. Keep listening, my friend. Welcome to THE FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. I'm Karli, your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, life and wellness coach, and community builder for women in midlife and beyond. I love bringing these bite-sized episodes to you every week, and I really appreciate you showing up. Here's something that I believe wholeheartedly in my soul. We're often told that change has to be this big ordeal in order to make a difference, and I just don't believe it. There's no need to throw everything out and overhaul your whole life to feel good. Some of the most meaningful shifts you can make just require you to make a choice, a simple choice. It doesn't require a dramatic transformation. And if you're feeling that pull to simplify things in today's overcomplicated world, you are not alone, my friend. I am right there with you. I've got three habits for you to incorporate into your life. And the beautiful thing, they're only a total of 30 minutes. 10 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes in the afternoon, and five minutes before bed. Of course, if you would want to add to those timeframes, that's up to you. But if you can commit to those 30 minutes, your mood and your energy will shift for the better, my friend. Okay, three habits. My advice as a life and wellness coach, don't try to do them all at once. Introduce one at a time, whatever order you would like, whatever fits best in your life, so you can cement these into your daily routine. So choose one, start there. Once you feel you're solid in that habit, move on to the next one, and then the third. So let's start with the first one, which is in the morning for 10 minutes. It's a morning anchor. You may need to wake up 10 minutes earlier, or you might need to pull something else out of your morning routine that isn't serving you any longer. Before the day pulls you in 100 different directions, give yourself 10 minutes that are entirely for you and don't involve productivity. No to-do lists, no checking your phone. This little habit is 10 minutes of quiet, of doing nothing, and spent however you want to. This may sound simple, but I will tell you it is not easy. We are so used to being productive, to go, go, go, to check things off a list, to figure out what our day is gonna look like. This is 10 minutes to let all of that go. You're nourishing your soul during these 10 minutes, my friend. Let your mind wander. Think back to when you were a kid and you could just daydream. Let this be 10 minutes of that. Let's move on to the second habit, which is anytime during your day really that works for you, but that's a gentle movement practice. Now, notice that I said movement. I didn't say a workout. It could look like a workout if that is what you choose. But I don't want you to get wrapped up in the stress of," I don't like working out." Think about gentle movement. This could be walking. It could be stretching. It could be putting out a yoga mat and doing a couple of your favorite yoga poses. It could be creating a playlist that's 15 minutes long, and just dancing for 15 minutes. It could be a combination of a bunch of different things. What is the gentle form of movement that you can incorporate into your day? And not every day has to look the same. I get bored very easily, so for me, variety is a way for me to stick to this habit of fifteen minutes a day spent doing gentle movement. This one is going to impact your mood, your energy, your joint health, your sleep, your digestion if you place it after a meal. There are so many benefits of moving your body in a gentle way. Our bodies are made for movement, my friend, and as we get older, that becomes more and more important. It not only impacts our body, but our minds, too. Let's move on to the third habit for the evening. This is five minutes. Five minutes, my friend. This is your chance to set the day down before you go to sleep. What feels good for you? Are you someone who likes to journal? Journal for five minutes before you go to sleep. Dump it all out on the page so you aren't taking it into your dreams with you and causing a restless night of sleep. Perhaps you aren't a journaler and just want to think about five things you're grateful for, or set a timer for five minutes and just relax. Breathe deeply. What is going to help you wrap up the day with a neat little bow, leave those thoughts behind so that you can get a good night of rest and wake up really refreshed ready for your ten minutes of just being. Maybe these five minutes even happen before you get to bed. So what is your evening ritual? Maybe parts of your evening routine would allow you to spend these five minutes thinking about your day and leaving it behind. Listen to a meditation. Stretch. Whatever helps you leave the day behind, my friend, is the right choice for you. Close the day on a positive note. Five minutes is all it takes. This can help you sleep better and wake up more refreshed, boost your mood. Instead of carrying the whole day into bed with you, let it go before you go to sleep. Let's add this up here. A morning anchor, 10 minutes. Gentle movement, 15 minutes. And an evening release, five minutes. 30 minutes out of your 24 hour day broken up into three chunks. You'll find that implementing these three daily habits, help you feel so much better. Your energy, your mood, your quality of sleep, how your body feels. The beautiful thing about this, my friend, is that you can do this where you are. These do not require a major overhaul. These are simple choices, and you get to pick what feels best for you. Oh, it's customizable, it's quick, and it really does have almost an immediate benefit, my friend. I can't wait for you to try these out. Eliminate something if you need to, to make room for these things, and I'd love to hear from you. You can email me your thoughts at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. I read all of your emails, and I love hearing from you. I do my best to respond to all of them too. Believe it, my friend. You can feel really good in midlife and beyond and these three habits are a really great start. If this kind of intentional living speaks to you, I'd love for you to check out ELEVATE.
