Good morning. Good morning. I'm Bridget. I'm Billy and this is Flickin Beans. This is a guest host week because Wendy is on vacation. And by the time this airs, I will have gotten back from New York City. New York City. Yeah, I'm pretty excited about that. It will be very overwhelming. Thank you so very much for being my guest host today. So certainly. So this is your second time. Yep. I'm sure you feel so privileged. Yes, of course. Okay, so our movie this week was Catmaran. I do have a thing for Kurt Russell, but maybe that's just the overboard connection. It could be. He did channel Dean Profitt in the whole cutout, sides, shirt, etc. But we hadn't met him yet. This is Martin Short and his wife Mary Kay Place and some kids that they made. And the gist is, this is such a movie trope, too. Someone died and left you something. Have you ever seen the movie Baby Boom? Someone died and left you a baby. Well, in this case, it's a cool a** boat. So I did write a little synopsis. Want to hear it? Yes. All right. Family inherits boat. It's in the Caribbean. Needs work and comes with a captain. Dad feels threatened, acts like an a**. Now adventures ensue, personal growth occurs. That's great. That is a good synopsis. Oh, and I think it was 92. Oh, wow. Yeah, that's what I said. It has to be around the time of Uncle Buck. Another of my favorites should do that movie. One thing I noticed that is so true. Only very few movies have sets and houses that look like actual houses. They go up to the attic to find a picture of this boat. And I was like, f****** movie attics are so cool. Always, always. And then he says that the boat's name is San Pome de and Mary Kay Place. The wife's character says, I think that means potato. He's like, no, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. Oh, I. And I decided that I'm obsessed with sailboats and that kind of thing, but terrified of open water. Same. Even if it's like a lake. I think it would be cool to learn to sail, but just, like, landlocked. There could be like a. Like a video game. The boat could rock, but it's completely on, like a wooden mechanism, kind of like a mechanical ball. Oh. Only mizzen mast and hoist the main sail. I don't know. I feel like that could be a thing. Like, you know, a flight simulator. A boat simulator. Wasn't the wife like an architect? Yes. Another Movie trope. But I love her line when she was like, who was thoughtless enough to put food on the table cause all her s*** spread out there. So they go to pick up this boat and Martin Short, Dad's idea is, and I get it, it's such a dream fantasy idea that they're gonna sail as a family in this cool a** boat and d gonna win the day. Oh, he hopes he's gonna be the hero. You can tell that from the beginning. Getting this cool a** boat. But that's not exactly what happens because Captain Ron kind of usurps dad's stab at coolness. I think that is exactly right. I wrote down for some themes that jealousy and fragile egos abound in this constant themes that you hear, see in a lot of, I say late 80s movies for sure. And despite his character being so jealous of Captain Ron and his family's taking to him, the wife is still very much in love with him and into him. And they try to have sex in that teeny tiny shower. It's probably my favorite scene. Oh my God. And then, oops, a broom handle falls. Over and blocks the door. So can't get out. Locks the door shut. And of course they. It is one of the funniest they would scene of the movie where they get caught in the shower and almost drowned. The most unbelievably small shower. But what you would expect. Yes. The boat's gorgeous though. Beautiful. I could live in that boat for sure. Yeah. Captain Ron does rescue them over and over again. Well, yeah, I mean, he just knows what he's doing. And he's got the kids super engaged the entire time. But nobody wants to hang out with dad. But what they're doing is fixing up that boat. Yeah. And learning how to sail. It's awesome. It's a real wax on, wax off scenario. And that's about when he starts to have real irritations with Ron because he sees the kids going, Captain Ron. Asking questions. Hey, Captain Ron. His ego is suffering. I feel like just kind of wasn't willing to admit that he doesn't know anything about the boat and about sailing. He can't admit any of that. He could have been as engaged as everyone else. Teach me this, teach me that. But instead he thought owning a boat was gonna make him the hero in the first place. Right. And he gets real p***** when they are wading up to the island that ended up being the wrong island. Doesn't even have a dog. Right. So he's just stomping up there being pissy the Wife is like, hey, this is a spontaneous adventure. Let's enjoy it. The kids are enjoying it. There's dancing, there's booze, there's everything there. It's a great evening. That's one of the themes I wrote down, probably during that scene, actually, which is lighten up while you still can. That's my tattoo in. He stormed off. He was just gonna go, yeah, just. I'm gonna go for a walk, take. A breather in the jungle. Don't, don't go off the path. Yeah. And he's like, gorillas. This is not where gorillas inhabit in the world. He's like, you said gorillas, not gorilla Grrll. You could have said revolutionaries, freedom fighters. Well, gorillas, land pirates, I don't know. Oh, even the jealousy. When he looks out down the beach and he sees a beautiful dream girl. Angel of the beach thinks it's a mirage. Even he thinks she's waving at him, but it's waving at Captain Ron. So it's like, f***. Oh, he gets everything. Even the kids don't believe he's gonna come through this and be their hero, save the day. The kids are very nonchalant about it. That's how kids are. You know, this is what we do now. We're on a boat, right. Well, it's through complaining. The daughter, she complained a lot. That's always the case in these movies. But they had fun too. But also they had that hard work and what kids that age are gonna like, be polishing up s*** and mizzen Ma. They got no other. Nothing else to do. This was before cell phones. Exactly. That made me think of that to do. And they thought Captain Ron was cool. Yeah, you couldn't have the same scenario even nowadays. One of the themes, as you said, was lighten up while you still can. Yeah, enjoy it. Enjoy the moment. Don't be a jealous baby. Don't let your ego rule your emotions. And one of my supreme takeaways is that this is inherently a Mary Poppins story. Oh, go on. Well, in Mary Poppins, she engaged the children to such a degree that the parents felt isolated from their children even more than they already had been. When it was time for her to leave them, the children and the parents had a closer bond. That's exactly right. Mary Poppins with an eye patch. I actually wrote down that it reminded me a little bit of Along Came Polly in that weird jealousy that happened at the beginning with the scuba instructor. Oh, sure. And then later there's the whole scuba instructor again. But he's had a transformation. Feel like that same sort of thing happened in this movie too, where growth. I love this movie. It's always been one of my favorites. Even though it's so very basic underdog movie kind of. It's been done and done again. I think there's good chemistry. Kurt Russell's his character is hilarious. Always that I like. After he gets caught not being broken legged and he goes, my legs feeling a lot better. Boss. I've always been a fast healer, you know, of course I believe in Jesus. That really made me laugh a lot. I love it. Great character. Just all the funny thing, the way he tried to work his way out. I was super into Martin Short at. That time and he is just. I can see why. He was such a tiny little wisp of a thing. And he had some great physical comedy. Oh, yeah. When he gets tossed overboard the first time, I totally thought Ed Grimley, the way he flew off the. Off the boat. Ed Grimley was my spirit animal in High School. 100%. Yeah. So did we do it? I think we did it. We flicked some beads. Okay, love you. Bye.
