Corey:Good morning.
Bridget:I'm Bridget.
Corey:And I'm Corey. And this is Flicking Beans.
Bridget:Corey, thank you so much for being my guest host.
Corey:It's absolutely a pleasure.
Bridget:I heart you so much.
Corey:I mean, just because I cook great food and I've shown you a couple different things. I really appreciate you bringing me on. I know that you've done this podcast for, what is it, 104 episodes?
Bridget:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Corey:Right about there. It's like two years.
Bridget:Yes. Little over two years, and we've never missed a week.
Corey:Never missed a week is absolutely impressive. No, most people have to take time off for something that's really dedication to the podcast and what you're really trying to put out here.
Bridget:So it's a labor of love.
Corey:It's. It's a labor of love. So what movie are we going through today?
Bridget:Okay, so this week's movie that I made you watch is called the Wrong Missy, starring David Spade.
Corey:And for me, this movie, even though David Spade is one of the main actors in there, it was very different than a lot of his previous work. I think that this role was something he had to adapt to. To show a different side of himself. When we. When we're talking the Wrong Missy, as we go forward, I want to hear about the themes that you felt in terms of the Wrong Missy. I really want to know what you noticed.
Bridget:David Spade has really gone from this comedic role to suddenly a romantic lead, and you have to, like, kind of get over that. And the woman that he meets at the airport is so gorgeous.
Corey:Yeah. Former beauty queen, former Miss Maryland is what it was.
Bridget:Yes. Former former star athlete, and so on. And also, like, a foot taller than David Spade. And I can't get over how they are animals for one another in, like, a janitor's closet.
Corey:For me, the janitor's closet, I think, is shown as this forbidden area. And I think that for what he was doing, it seemed quite about fitting.
Bridget:For a moment that Missy brings out his wild side.
Corey:It's very true.
Bridget:And later the quote, wrong Missy starts to bring out his wild side.
Corey:I think that's really good foresight into what's going to happen. That. That. That janitor closet scene really set the tone for what's going to come later because of the fact it was such a intense scene and seeing them go through that. It's him having to accept that maybe his reserved mentality prior, which was depicted with his ex that showed up a few times with her new boyfriend. And I think that that closet scene really set the tone for where the movie could go. And I think it showed that we should be anticipating something greater because that part was so intense at such an early stage in the movie.
Bridget:Can I make a super deep observation?
Corey:Of course.
Bridget:Two people in a janitor's closet is love in a vacuum.
Corey:Love in a vacuum.
Bridget:If nothing changed, everything is perfect in that moment. They have the same luggage. They have the same book. He thinks she's perfect. But it's cut short.
Corey:I think that life moves short because it was trying to highlight that. Yeah. On the surface they had a lot of things in common. And with his job, judging by the suits and. And just the overall vibe from the other guys that he worked with, I think that we can see that he was shown something that he should be like as opposed to what was really inside of him.
Bridget:Let's put it in the. In the perspective. Upcoming is the retreat that the company's going on in Hawaii. That puts pressure on Tim. David Spade. Tim.
Corey:Adorable.
Bridget:He's got pictures of this woman he met at the airport. He's telling everybody she's coming with him. I'm not sure when he meets the other missy. Is it before or after?
Corey:It was three months prior.
Bridget:Three months.
Corey:Three months prior. They had the. They had their first blind date. So used to just monotonous daily life. So he was not ready to meet somebody with such a dynamic personality on that first day. Are. Of course. She walked up to a random couple at the bar and then pretended to be somebody else. That was hilarious. And I respect her ability to do so.
Bridget:I read online Gremlin energy. She was crazy for a guy like him.
Corey:For him. Shocking for sure.
Bridget:That's the thing. No one pulls out a giant knife.
Corey:That machete was made very well. That was a high quality gold inlaid it. It looked like that blade was balanced.
Bridget:The knife's name was Sheila.
Corey:She is obnoxious. You can just envision that there's going to be a situation in which Tim has no idea how to operate.
Bridget:Wouldn't you be freaked out if that was your blind date?
Corey:Based on my personality and some of the blind dates I've been on, I would have received that really well. But I'm definitely not Tim Morris. The average man would do the same thing. Climb out that bathroom window.
Bridget:That's what I'm saying.
Corey:And climbing out.
Bridget:You're not the average man. That's fair. But.
Corey:But climbing out the window. That is crazy for the character. That is Tim Morris.
Bridget:Right?
Corey:That is crazy for him. He is like trying to look down at that dumpster. He's going to fall on and be like, is this worth it or not?
Bridget:So she comes into the bathroom.
Corey:Yeah, this part was hilarious.
Bridget:He's up in the window, just barges in the bathroom. He says, can you give me a couple minutes in here? And she's like, oh, oh, you have to go to the bathroom. I get it. When I'm dropping a deuce, I don't want anyone talking to me. So have a good s***, my man. Thank you. And then she goes, she says, maybe I'll take a s*** too. She said, you never know. I'll push.
Corey:See, I'll push. When she climbs under the bathroom stall and watches him climb out the window. Yeah, that sets the tone for her character for the rest of the movie. When he's on that date with that woman who was deemed the. The perfect Missy to him, and he had an exchange with her, saying that he was there with a lunatic. I think that her actions in that scene when he's doing a handstand and operating outside of what she expected shows how much he was supposed to be with the other Missy. She was so much more his level of balance because she would just do things that are crazy.
Bridget:She brought out his wild side.
Corey:Every man wants to feel like they're a kid again because time for a kid. When you would be at your neighbor's house up the street and all of a sudden it was time for dinner, but you didn't even notice the four hours that you had been doing that or climbing a tree to pick apples like building a fort. As guys, we want to go back to that period in time where time didn't matter. And I think that that is what the right Missy quote unquote brought out of David Spade in there. And he learned that towards the movie.
Bridget:Let'S call her Airport Missy.
Corey:Just so we don't confuse the listeners. I really do think there's too many Missy's in this.
Bridget:Yeah, I mean, you can't say right Missy and wrong Missy because it's flips. What I was thinking is Airport Missy. Although he had all these things in common with her, she's not fun.
Corey:When a guy has had struggles with dating and struggles finding somebody, at a certain point we become less selective on how many traits need to be in common for us to feel it's a match. He saw the same book, the same luggage, and for him he was trying to get over his ex, which is really put into fruition later in the movie. And that's a whole nother part of this. But I think that at A certain point, you're striving so far for the genuine connection from somebody else. That those small details, although in the grand scope, are very irrelevant in matching with somebody, especially for life, as we talk about in our culture. But those small things, it's like, wow, I can actually have a conversation with somebody because there's these. I like your luggage.
Bridget:You're right. Those two did talk at the bar for hours before they went into the janitor's closet.
Corey:But was the conversation really that deep? But in their minds, it was a deep conversation.
Bridget:Right until he's at dinner. He's sort of. He has feelings now for the other Missy, quote, the wrong Missy. And they're at dinner and it gets deep. She talks about why and how she is a jack of all trades.
Corey:What happened at dinner was he was not ready to show his true self yet. And she had been through enough in which she felt comfortable doing that with somebody else. And she was going to put her personality on the line and say, this is who I am. If you like this, then that's fine. Which I think that's how it should go now. People should put their true self out there as opposed to trying to be something they're not, because eventually it will come out that, oh, you weren't this person. And that's. I hear that from a lot of people.
Bridget:Somebody doesn't either make me laugh or make me laugh.
Corey:So there's just make me laugh is the only one. Bridget's list. One, make me laugh, make me laugh. No. 3, make me laugh.
Bridget:I'm not that person who says, here are my requirements. Looks, don't care. Height, don't care. Job. Yes. I'd like somebody that has. That makes me laugh.
Corey:To all the male listeners, Bridget is.
Bridget:In fact, single, likes animals. Again, she's single, maybe can cook and. Or really likes washing dishes. The end. And if you're a masseuse or. Or a chiropractor or.
Corey:If you run a day spa. Her email and contact information is listed below.
Bridget:I am into it.
Corey:We digress. Back to the movie. Bridget.
Bridget:Here's the jack of all trades.
Corey:Yeah.
Bridget:That Missy has. I have a list. All right. And it's.
Corey:Do we need to. Do we need to read a list? Or can we just go over some of the circumstances?
Bridget:Maybe. Well, oh, my God, we can after that.
Corey:Because his boss, I think maybe it's.
Bridget:In the order of operation, the order of the movie. So we got psychic readings. That was the first red flag for his buddy chiropractor, cracking that neck, which.
Corey:Was A wild scene.
Bridget:Marriage counselor.
Corey:Talk about later.
Bridget:Sherpa and close up Magic.
Corey:And an excellent swimmer. She, like, fell off the boat and was able to catch up to that, like, pontoon boat.
Bridget:They were always willing to let her die.
Corey:This is true.
Bridget:That is.
Corey:But that's the type of character in there. And I think that goes into the fact that her nickname was Hellstar, because h*** can always be reborn and Hellstar is always coming out of the depths of the water. We got the hot tub scene in which all the rose petals were a real thing. Hellstar was a real thing for that woman.
Bridget:Oh, yeah. Don't f*** with h*** Star.
Corey:We're at the point where Tim is at a crossroads. He's had a wonderful experience with the wrong Missy. He is starting to have feelings for her and he sees the connection between all the people that he's around because she hypnotized his boss who was trying to give him a promotion and won everyone over. Yep.
Bridget:Somehow.
Corey:Somehow. Even though he thought that she was a lunatic, but the way that she won everyone over showed him that there's an alternate way to the happiness he wanted. And the other people in his life that were dictating what he should feel weren't right.
Bridget:He should feel what he feels.
Corey:It's so difficult.
Bridget:Recognize that he felt. Woo.
Corey:Woo.
Bridget:Coffee break. Let's talk about our beans.
Corey:Hey, bean flickers, have you followed us yet? We are on Instagram and Facebook at flicking beans pod. Make sure you like and subscribe and leave us a. A review. And the fact that he did recognize that and that other Melissa or the other Missy, you know the right one, quote unquote, when she shows up and he is shocked that she's there and he is in disbelief that she showed up because his friend contacted her. And you know that that friend, seeing what he had been through, knew that he could capitalize on bringing that woman there.
Bridget:He.
Corey:She has a fallout with Tim, there's an issue, and then he can swoop in and, you know, it's Nick Swartzen's character.
Bridget:Tim is kind of not sure if he still has feelings for his ex Anyway.
Corey:So the threesome scene. What? Bridget, I need to ask you, like, have you been in the situation in which a friend has wanted to have a threesome and you guys have to have that conversation? How does that even go? I'm more curious for me than the podcast, but I think it's a good discussion point.
Bridget:I've been in a few threesomes.
Corey:I am envious.
Bridget:And it doesn't really Involve a conversation.
Corey:They sat and had vivid conversation over champagne.
Bridget:Though that's not normal if you watch the scene he walks in on. So it's the two girls having the conversation prior. He was kind of blindsided.
Corey:That situation. If I walked into that situation with the girl that I was having a good relationship with.
Bridget:No.
Corey:And then an ex, I would be.
Bridget:Yeah.
Corey:I would be really concerned about what was going on.
Bridget:Crazy. We're not supposed to not think it's crazy because it's crazy. He did not actually realize how much he cared for her until that threesome. I'm going to say this, and you agree or disagree in a threesome, somebody always gets left out. You have the best intentions, but somebody always gets left out. Because when his ex girlfriend realizes those two are so into each other, she creeps out picking up her clothes.
Corey:I think that was a defining moment for him because he had the.
Bridget:I haven't thought of this until just the second. But we always focus on him and his transformation and we don't focus on her. And when she tells that story at dinner, you know, she's got attachment issues too. She's pulling out a knife and being super weird because she is afraid of rejection as well.
Corey:That's where it comes into play that she tried so many different things. She tried so many different things to expand her touch and go ability of being able to try something new and be able to roll with the punches. And her experience with all these different things she signed up for, which play into the plotline with not only Tim, but also his boss, that defines her character quite through and through.
Bridget:She wants to be loved.
Corey:Absolutely. So she tried so many things to feel like she had something to connect.
Bridget:You don't need the skills. It's the personality and it's already there. So she was misaligned, I guess.
Corey:Misaligned. So not Miss Maryland.
Bridget:Da, da, da.
Corey:Shh.
Bridget:She felt like that made her more desirable if she had all these weird skills. When it's not the weird skills, but it was actually her and her personality. She was curious. Those things didn't matter. But maybe in a way they made.
Corey:Quote, Tim curious himself because he's never seen that because his expectation was presented to him. And when you meet somebody in your life who's curious and you don't quite understand and it's alluring also when a.
Bridget:Person is just authentically them passion. I'm f****** me and I know who I am.
Corey:Yeah. So the takeaway from this movie that we really can see throughout is understanding who you are. What you're going with it?
Bridget:Yeah. Don't hold back on who you are.
Corey:Live your life and seeing Tim evolve as a character and look through things and see. Wow. I actually prefer this. Have you been through something in your life, Bridget, that you didn't think you could accomplish, but it was so new to you and you didn't know how to approach it? You knew. There were so many details involved, but you didn't quite know. Know.
Bridget:You mean where you should go?
Corey:No, no, no. I'm not fishing for that answer. This is not.
Bridget:It literally is that, though?
Corey:Is that really what it was? Oh, tell me about how this. Like, I'm. I'm a guest on the show. I wanna. I wanna hear about what you got here.
Bridget:Well, I. Never starting it would be going on this long. I mean, it's just something that seemed really fun to try to. I thought about doing another podcast with my niece. She's in her 20s.
Corey:Okay.
Bridget:Okay.
Corey:Yeah.
Bridget:And I wanted to show her some old commercials.
Corey:Old commercials are fantastic.
Bridget:There's a perfume called Anjoli.
Corey:Anjoli.
Bridget:Do you know it?
Corey:I don't.
Bridget:Obviously. All hot women. This one had a very catchy jingle.
Corey:Are you gonna do it for us, Bridget?
Bridget:Right now?
Corey:I would love that. I'm so excited.
Bridget:Ready? Should I get my ukulele?
Corey:No, I'm just super excited.
Bridget:Okay, here it goes. You're gonna yourself. Okay. I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never ever let you forget you're a man. Cause I'm a woman.
Corey:Ajuli, what era was this the commercial on? Because jingle is crazy.
Bridget:Correct.
Corey:If that song was put in a commercial now, my goodness. At the top of FOX and cnn. Whatever.
Bridget:This is why I thought it would be an excellent podcast.
Corey:So finalizing the movie. What's our. What's our takeaways here? Like what. What. Can we really talk to our audience?
Bridget:I'm gonna say. Okay, I know what it is. It's. Sometimes the wrong missy ends up being the right one. You just have to put yourself out there in a real way. I don't know what he thought. They were all great, but she had read his.
Corey:Yep. We've all been an unfortunate victim in terms of somebody reading a text out of context. We've all been there.
Bridget:I've never read someone's text.
Corey:Not even by happenstance.
Bridget:Nope.
Corey:I'm happy for you because that's traumatic experience.
Bridget:You know why?
Corey:Great. Do you know why I want to know now? Because, like, what, You've never had that inclination?
Bridget:I was married for 30 years and we didn't have cell phones when we got.
Corey:Well, that's just like a.
Bridget:Hey, I think it would matter more if I had been having different boyfriends over the last 30 years. I might have had a bad one. I might have wanted to look at those tags.
Corey:Crazy one. I mean that before. But the crazy one was the wrong Missy in this movie.
Bridget:Right?
Corey:We've all had a crazy one that we learned a lot from. But I think Tim really figured out in this movie that maybe that is what he needed was that push into trying something new always. Because he went through so many situations in that movie in which he had to operate in a position. He didn't know what to do. He had no precursor of how his actions should be. So he didn't know how to go through these situations with somebody he didn't expect and try to find the way out that was going to be filled with happiness for him. And him seeing that somebody who is different but unique, the uniqueness is what drove him forward to learn about himself.
Bridget:Can I say something to that effect as far as being Missy? Because I already said I'm Missy in my younger days. I look at Missy being like she's f****** all in. She's got low self esteem too. Seems like high self esteem, but it's not because she is f****** all in. And she's saying that they're married and whatever else because she thinks that he invited. You know what I mean?
Corey:Oh. Because she gets on that plane excited because he invited her to this vacation as a corporate retreat. And let's be honest, if you invite a girl to a corporate retreat to meet your company and your boss and integrate that, it's a big deal.
Bridget:That's where she was at. That resonates with me because she's so bizarre that she's probably gotten just as much rejection as Tim.
Corey:Are we relating this film to the real world now?
Bridget:Yes.
Corey:Is that where you want to go with it? Okay, for sure.
Bridget:Yeah. I'm saying I am Missy in a lot of ways. I think a lot of people are.
Corey:I think everyone is actually correct. I have a very strong stance on the effect of social media in our world. I think that everybody is so conditioned to see this highlight reel that nobody sees the impact of being so secluded. We don't have communities anymore. We don't have friends that actually would show up for us if we really in need. People are always preoccupied with the idealistic perspective on how life should be shown and media influences people. Again, this goes back to social media. The biggest influences on our population is from social media.
Bridget:Did I even mention that? The threesome scene. The song is playing. My neck, my back, my P and my crack. That singer's name is Elle King, and she is literally Rob Schneider's daughter.
Corey:I think you're lying.
Bridget:I'm not lying 100%. That kills me.
Corey:My neck, my back, p**** and my crack.
Bridget:Oh, my God. And that's part of the reason why I thought this would be the perfect movie to share with you for that reason, because we are super best friends who talk about sex and have a completely platonic relationship.
Corey:It is. It is very interesting talking with a woman about sex and. And it's so much fun because you get to go so far into it and define things that you would normally not feel comfortable with talking with a friend. But I love my platonic female friends. It's been a recurring theme in my life, if you will. I've always had a really good female friend, Corey.
Bridget:Sometimes it's super gross.
Corey:Well, I understand that. But as somebody who listens to the stories that you tell and other friends of ours who are, whoa. Also female, you can't come at me saying that mine are gross. When it. It goes one in the same. There. There's always a gross story that you both c*** your head to the side and go, wow, that was hard to listen to. That was. That was uncomfortable.
Bridget:I love a great reaction. And that's almost all of my comedy.
Corey:I think that's most of the interactions with me is. I mean, you gave me that. That mango macaron that you made, and I think I looked at you and said, shush. I want to enjoy this experience. And as you kept asking me how it was, which I would, too, if I made something and you were concerned about somebody's opinion, I totally understand that. But I think I shushed you three times that night. I was like, I just want to understand and experience this mango level right now. And I. It was. It was wonderful.
Bridget:Did we do it?
Corey:I think we did it. We flicked some beans. I love you. Bye.
