>> Bridget:I'm Bridget.
>> Alyssa:And I'm Alyssa.
>> Bridget:And this is Flaking Beans, our movie this week.
>> Alyssa:We have a ghost, Right? Yeah. On Netflix. All of a sudden I. I panicked. Is that what it's called? We have a ghost.
>> Bridget:We have a ghost in earnest.
>> Alyssa:Doesn't know how to be a ghost. So he goes, well, it was so
>> Bridget:random because I put it on just thinking, this is going to be just a ridiculous comedy. And it kind of wasn't. It kind of was and it kind of wasn't.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. I had a lot more themes that I took from the family dynamic that really p***** me off. And so the first time I watched it, I was like, okay, this is. This is kind of funny. But the dad kept upsetting me a lot. And so did the mom.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:So did the older brother, Fulton. Fulton. Then the second time I watched it, I watched more about the ghost. So the story of Ernest or Randy. And I still got even more mad at the family dynamic and the makeup of it.
>> Bridget:So. Yeah. Because the first thing we see is basically a family running out of this house screaming and yelling because obviously they've discovered this ghost and they are not staying one more minute. And the family. So it's Mom, Dad, Kevin, and Fulton. And they are showing up with the realtor. This place is a dumb. And it's huge.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:They're walking around that house. Would you not be like, I can't afford to re. Wallpaper this s***.
>> Alyssa:Well, I don't know if that's on their.
>> Bridget:Their. Their plan, because they're doing another.
>> Alyssa:Another.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:That you pick that up really quickly. Yeah. The night that they move in when. Because it's like, nobody is going to stay here. And then. Then they're moving in and you know, it's like another fresh start. And you're like, okay, so dad clearly is somebody who just hasn't figured things out for himself and maybe never will. It's almost like, is he always doing these get rich quick schemes? Which later on, you see that up in the attic when Kevin's talking to Ernest and they're going through the boxes of stuff, but I don't know, the
>> Bridget:donor pills that just gave you diarrhea.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Another one of Dad's schemes. Dad also comes to that realization that he's never figured out who he was at the end and that he's always chasing the next thing. Because I think a lot of men do feel like failures if they just can't give their family what they want.
>> Alyssa:Right.
>> Bridget:Or what.
>> Alyssa:What they think society Wants? Yeah, yeah.
>> Bridget:He wants a win.
>> Alyssa:I was really upset by dad because I was like, you're just looking for the next win versus, like, paying attention to the journey as you're going and figuring, like, I don't know, or getting a real job. Yeah. Or did he ever figure out, like, it's not about him getting the next win. When you have kids at this point, it's, let's be a parent. And he's actually kind of a bully.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:He picks on his own son. When she comes in and is like, what are you guys looking at? Kevin tries to tell her, oh, the dad has this video that I took of a ghost. He throws an orange at him, but then mom is like, oh, oh, the fruit. You know, organic fruit's so expensive. And I was like, geez, nobody's sticking up for this kid. No wonder he feels like an alone or in his own family.
>> Bridget:I think it was so cool when Kevin goes up to the attic and discovers Ernest do it again. And he's filming the whole time and then just starts laughing. You're not scary, dude.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. I think I wrote down in my notes, like, why do you think that Kevin doesn't feel afraid when he sees this ghost appear? And I think it's because this day and age, because it's all about social media, the clicks, what's gonna hit viral. And maybe not for Kevin necessarily, but everyone's got their phones ready. No one is afraid because they feel like they're always, like, behind that fourth wall. Right. You're watching reels on any other social media or whatever, and, like, you're looking at life camera, so you're not maybe actually present. And then. Yeah, so they're not. People aren't afraid anymore.
>> Bridget:Right.
>> Alyssa:They'll watch somebody get, like, they have their phones out in a mass shooting situation. I know, and it's great. Later maybe to document for evidence, but also, oh, my God, go save yourself.
>> Bridget:Right?
>> Alyssa:You know what? I don't know. It's. Maybe that's too deep.
>> Bridget:Yeah, go save yourself. But, yeah, that's part of what clicked with me about this movie was, you know, I said, it's part Beetlejuice, part ET but the social media aspect of it, as soon as they have this video with TikTok, with whatever, it just blows up. I also think that Kevin, he's shy, he's a loner, and I think he just wanted somebody to talk to.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. I saw a lot of him connecting with Ernest in ways where maybe he could have been connecting with his father. And I know.
>> Bridget:Oh, yeah.
>> Alyssa:Later in the movie, he said, well, my dad and I actually used to be best friends. But then he saw that his dad kind of let everybody down, and he didn't like to see the hurt that it caused. But seeing at the very end, when they're at the lake and, you know, they're skipping rocks, it's just like, that's more of a father moment. And then, of course, you know, the father comes in later and talks about, oh, I remember the night you were born. It was raining. And I remember this because. And it's like, why? Like, why now? I know. Better late than never. Maybe. But you're going too hard right now. Where. Let's talk to your kid about how he's feeling right now. Maybe.
>> Bridget:You know, the dad, Kevin, completely respected Earnest the ghost, whereas dad immediately tried
>> Alyssa:to capitalize on that 100%.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:That was disgusting.
>> Bridget:It was disgusting.
>> Alyssa:And when they. He wanted to. Kevin and Joy wanted to go and help Ernest figure out who he was and why he was there to maybe move on. And then Dad's like, no, we need him here. This is for our family. This is for our future.
>> Bridget:It's ridiculous.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:He's confusing.
>> Alyssa:And he loved everybody outside their house. Oh, my God.
>> Bridget:Like a freaking rock star. He was just bathing in it.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. And it. And that went too, too fast for him as well. Just like, I think it really, for most social media individuals who become influencers and overnight become very popular. Because he has Jennifer Coolidge on who is the medium.
>> Bridget:Yes.
>> Alyssa:But, like, he's not even prepared. He doesn't even know how to talk to Earnest. He doesn't even know how to get Ernest to come. And because he doesn't respect Ernest, he's not coming anyway. But he's already, like, got merchandise. And he's. Yeah, he's like, you tell me. Yeah, why don't you write down a number and call me back? And I'm.
>> Bridget:Yeah. Like, he's. He's.
>> Alyssa:He's his own agent or something. Yeah.
>> Bridget:He's throwing out all these, like, let's do an Earnest cartoon.
>> Alyssa:Oh, my God. That was really funny, though, because that's. That's a thought. I know that we would have the Adult Swim cartoon type where he's like, have you ever seen a ghost naked? No. What. What they have down there? Like, what are you even gonna see? Like, it was so funny. Cause I was like, that's. That's a question that my brain would ask, is, what do you think he would see?
>> Bridget:I don't know. Anyway, can they disrobe in the first place?
>> Alyssa:Well, I don't know. He can wear sunglasses.
>> Bridget:I would like to see that shirt. But he doesn't know his name is in earnest.
>> Alyssa:No, he doesn't know anything about him. So I know we went. Really. We went down this rabbit hole on dad, but he's a p****. Frank is a p****. And I don't care if at the end they tried to make him come around and be better. I still don't think he's gonna change. So we can put that to bed if we want to talk about, like, the movie.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:I do want to call back to a personal experience. When the realtor goes in there and she goes to show them the house, like, she peeks her head in, which is just hilarious. And red flag number one.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:But the light flickers. So in our first home that Shelly and I moved into. Have I told you about this? No. I want to hear it. All right. So it was pretty cheap, but it was because it was a house that was willed to the neighbor. So he didn't have any dog in the fight. He just wanted to sell it to a nice couple for their first home. And so. Well, why was it willed to the neighbor? Like, I'm kind of curious about. I'm always curious about the history of things. When I pulled up one day, I looked up, and in this screen, I see J. Kelly.
>> Bridget:Okay.
>> Alyssa:And I'm like, what's that? And my dad tells me that back in the day, when you would take your screens to get repaired, repairmen would dip their finger in, like, dish soap and then write your initials or something on it. So then when you came to pick it up, your initials were on it. They didn't tag it or whatever, but.
>> Bridget:Oh.
>> Alyssa:So I'm like, oh. It was like, J.R. kelly. And I'm like, okay, that's interesting. All right. Weird. So I start looking up. It was. This house was only owned by one couple after it was built in the 1950s.
>> Bridget:You did the whole research thing. Yeah.
>> Alyssa:So it was Jerry Kelly, and he was the last owner of it. And we used to joke because we had certain rooms, especially the kitchen, where the lights flickered just randomly. Maybe the light's been on for a while, it starts to flicker. You just turn on, it flickers. And we would jokingly go, oh, Jerry. Just, you know, for me, I'm like, I believe that spirits exist. And so to call them out or acknowledge them, I think makes it less scary. So we find out later we're having a bonfire with our neighbors and they're getting kind of drunk. And one of them was like, oh, yeah. I'll never forget the day that Jim came home and found Jerry hanging in the garage. And Shelly and are like, what? And his wife was like, rich. We weren't gonna say anything to the girls, and we're like, oh, my God. So from what I gathered, he was a serviceman. Him and his wife, they didn't have any kids. And so, like, the neighborhood talks about him as. He was a very independent guy. He would mow people's yards for them. He was retired. Well, he started to lose his sight and his hearing. And as a very independent man, I think that he was like, I'm gonna go out on my own terms.
>> Bridget:Oh, ouch. Yeah.
>> Alyssa:So he took his own life in the garage, which wasn't really scary. We didn't live in there. So I found out later I was in my parents house and I was looking at this photograph that my mom had this collage. And it was my grandfather in World War II. Sort of a map of some things. And then off to the side was the surviving members of this platoon with Terry Branstad. The first time he was in office.
>> Bridget:Don't say.
>> Alyssa:And I looked at this a hundred times, and I never looked at the names, because why? And all of a sudden, I look off to the side and my grandfather standing next to Jerry. Kelly, shut your face.
>> Bridget:Are you serious?
>> Alyssa:I am absolutely 1000 serious.
>> Bridget:That's too weird.
>> Alyssa:Took a picture of that, sent it to my neighbors, and it was a really old photo. Probably like 20 years old at that time. And I'm like, is this what he looked like? And they're like, I think that is exactly him. And it matches the time frame of everything. When we did move out of the house, I actually felt good because when we had early possession, we were going to paint. I went through every room and. Possession, Right, sorry.
>> Bridget:Not demonic.
>> Alyssa:We were painting the rooms, but I don't know if, like, Shelly knew that I did this or not, but I went to the rooms and I would like, say, like, hey, we really like it. You know, we just want to update a little bit. Like you, like, I just. Just in case there's any spirit or energy that's with it. And then when we moved out, I walked around every room and we talked about memories. And at the end of it, I went to the kitchen and I said, okay, Jerry, I don't know if the next family's gonna come in and, like, be into this, so maybe it's time if you wanna, like, Go ahead and move to the other side. We randomly, not too long ago, got a flickering light in the basement.
>> Bridget:You are giving me the chills right now.
>> Alyssa:And Shelly and I jokingly call it Jerry.
>> Bridget:Oh, my God.
>> Alyssa:Anytime the kids see a light flicker, they pick everything up. They're like, oh, hey, Jerry. So I don't know if, like. Because I'm like, I don't think he came to this house with us. But, like, I don't know. So the light flickering, immediately I was just like, oh, my God, Jerry. I don't even know what that story means, but it. I love it. It's just a fun little one. So that was. That was where I was going with that. I just. I thought that was a cute little thing. Yeah, that was a lot.
>> Bridget:Well, like, you, that story. This is also a ghost that you're not afraid of. He's sad. Do you believe in this, then? Where, you know, you have unfinished business? That whole movie trope.
>> Alyssa:My personal belief is that I think if there's unfinished business, you might be trapped. But I think that there can be spirits or entities that can pop in and out, maybe. And, like, I don't know.
>> Bridget:I.
>> Alyssa:Because that's what I want.
>> Bridget:Beetlejuice.
>> Alyssa:Well, yeah, but, like, I don't think it's anybody that you're gonna see. I don't think they manifest into something that you can actually see. Like, I believe in the energies and the spirits and where I work, I know that there's likely entities or spirits or energy that's tied to some of these things because there's some tragic events that have happened.
>> Bridget:Oh, psychometry.
>> Alyssa:And I. I actually talked to the dead in my room. I talked to the victims of these horrific crimes when I'm in there, because just in case, you know, just in case they're still around and just also, like, to keep their memory alive. I maybe didn't know them. I probably didn't. But, like, it's just. I don't know. I talk to them when I go past their stuff. Oh, I've had boxes fall in my head where I'm like, hey, and I'll maybe name somebody that I think it was.
>> Bridget:Holy crap.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Oh, my God.
>> Alyssa:So I believe in it. What about you?
>> Bridget:I'm. I think I would be pretty frightened initially. I don't know. Even if there was, you know, some ghostly figure that passed by, you know, on the stairs every now and then, I think it would give me the willies. But I applaud this kid for he cares. He's so wholesome and he's so giving and he doesn't need or want anything except to help Ernest figure out who he is. That's the saddest part. Is. Or is it being a ghost and not remembering who you are, how you got there, even whether or not he died in the house. But I think that would be really sad.
>> Alyssa:But also ignorance is bliss. Right. Like he didn't know that he had a daughter until they showed up at the park. He didn't remember that part.
>> Bridget:Yeah. June bug. Okay, wait, let's go back to the social media thing because when we think about TikTok and this is sort of the sequence events that happened after this video went viral when mom first season and she screams her head off and they've got it all on video. There are all these scream memes and people doing her scream which is so great. There's the whole group of women who are like earnest is so hot. There is the wall. Challeng.
>> Alyssa:Yep. When they're running through the wall.
>> Bridget:Yeah. Or try to run into walls. That's so tick tock.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:There's the free Earnest campaign.
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:And there's ghost. Right?
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:Now we get to talk about Tignataro.
>> Alyssa:Okay.
>> Bridget:She is her whole life been working toward the pursuit of proving that there's a ghost. But she's not just a ghost hunter. She works for like the CIA and some s***. Yep. Operation Wizard Clip was discontinued till she sees this video.
>> Alyssa:Why don't we know background on why this Dr. Leslie is so into ghosts? There is something that had to have sparked that because somebody that's working for central Intelligence or like you know, FBI, something like that, they're not going to necessarily go off and just be like well I believe in ghosts and I want to hunt. Because then when they do, once they have Ernest in this cage, she goes in and she is speechless almost. I want to know though like what happened because there's something. Yeah. There's something more there that. Because if she just wants to do experiments because at first she comes out and you're like oh this is going to be the kooky person that's here to help. But all of a sudden she's actually the bad guy trying to capture the ghost.
>> Bridget:But that's where her job ended, was just captured. Because she goes what's the end game here?
>> Alyssa:Well I guess I thought she thought. Thought they would do more experimenting or something and maybe if you were going to capture it anyway, what do you care what happens next? Because it's not free. So I don't know. But all of a sudden, she comes around, and now she's the good guy, and she helps him escape. But I love that change. I'm missing something of a backstory, and I thought maybe I'd catch it the second time around. Like, maybe I missed something, but I do.
>> Bridget:Like, her whole demeanor and attitude, it is her. She's. I know she's got those readers, and she's always looking down and, like, looking over them. Yeah, looking over them.
>> Alyssa:Just dry. And then when they're like, have you seen this video on social media? And she was like, I don't do that. Tig has actually left Instagram. I listen to their podcast Handsome, and so she has, like, decided to, like, kind of, like, go off of social media and just see how that is. And she's also somebody who doesn't know crap about celebrities. She's like, who's that? I mean, they could be like, anybody almost. And she'd be like, you know.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:Timothy Chalamet. She'd be like, who's that? And they're like, are you serious? Yeah.
>> Bridget:That makes her just like a normal person who's good at her job.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. Another callback to Tig Notaro, or Nod is she actually was on a celebrity celebrity. Wheel of Fortune.
>> Bridget:Oh, yeah.
>> Alyssa:And Wheel of Fortune is on in the hotel room. And the funny thing, the tie to this is Tig Notaro. There's a famous clip out there now that's on social media. She is trying to solve this puzzle, and she guesses, crashing My Exorcist Bill. It's actually crashing my exercise bike. But she just so nonchalantly was, like, crashing My Exorcist Bill. And I thought it was funny, too, because it's Exorcist. And, like, is that why Wheel of Fortune's what's on TV when they turn it on in the hotel?
>> Bridget:You know, I want to be on Wheel of Fortune. Look at my vision.
>> Alyssa:Well, I saw that. I just thought that was about, like, you know, money. But I also saw that and was like, I know. It's the Wheel Fortune. My dad says Fortunato.
>> Bridget:Oh, my God.
>> Alyssa:Wayne. Is Fulton in high school, the older brother?
>> Bridget:Yes, But I think at the end, I think he's just graduated because he's calling from college.
>> Alyssa:Yeah, but he's in high school when they move into that home, and he's swiping on dating profiles of women in their twenties.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:Did you catch that?
>> Bridget:Yeah. Gross. Yeah. Like that, what he said every time he swiped.
>> Alyssa:Yeah, Gross. Gross. Yeah. Something like that. Yeah. The other thing about social media that I really like their depiction of it was when they first get the videos, they get the video up, and then of course, people are like, oh, that's not real. And like, just sort of the madness of it all. And, well, what you were talking about with the different groups of people and how they're reacting, it reminded me of on Netflix, they have untold. It's like little mini documentaries. And there's a two part about storming Area 51. Have you seen that?
>> Bridget:Yes.
>> Alyssa:And that. I just recently watched that. So watching all of these people and how they just kind of like, lose their s*** while they're. While they're discovering Ernest, I was like, oh, my God, it's actually real. So true how it is.
>> Bridget:Fast things can spread. Now, my favorite character is Joy, the little girl who lives next. I shouldn't say little girl. She's Kevin's age.
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:And I love her because she has such a great giggle. She plays the trombone anywhere and everywhere she feels like it, including the library. Super smart. And she doesn't believe in being quiet in the libraries because.
>> Alyssa:What, being loud will make you dumb, huh? Yeah. And she also. Her necklace has little handcuffs on it.
>> Bridget:Yes.
>> Alyssa:But again, so she comes from what might be a traditional Asian American family, where she's like, my life is mapped out for me. And so this was kind of exciting for her to go on this adventure. And when she finds out that Kevin's looking into all of this, because she's like, oh, you live in the murder House. Yeah, gonna. She was interested. I mean, why not? She might be an only child. I didn't hear her reference any other siblings.
>> Bridget:Her phone number is 2. 2. 2. Poop.
>> Alyssa:Yep. Yep. It's epic.
>> Bridget:Well, you know my number.
>> Wendy:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:So she's gonna help Kevin figure out where Ernest came from. You know, how he got stuck there. And she does a really great job at figuring out, you know, the previous owner and that he used to be a part owner in a bar. And so she starts taking Kevin on these. It's like adventures solving.
>> Bridget:Yeah. When they finally get to the bottom of it, somebody needs to kick that old man's a**. Incidentally, Kitty, you know that stage theater thing where they say if you introduce a gun in the first act, it has to go off by the third act?
>> Alyssa:Oh, no.
>> Bridget:Really? Really?
>> Alyssa:Really?
>> Bridget:That's.
>> Alyssa:That's not a random fact. I know.
>> Bridget:That's a thing. No other random facts in my head. When I saw that rose window up in the attic, I Was like, somebody's gonna crash through it.
>> Alyssa:I was thinking the same thing, but about the short brick pillar out there at the front of the. The very beginning of the movie when this family runs out to their car and they're back, I'm like, someone's gonna hit that brick pylon there. They hit the mailbox. So once the mailbox got hit, I was like, oh, someone else. Oh. Then the moving truck hits it. But the window. And I saw its golden color coming through and I was like, there's something like bright that's gonna happen through there. And that is what happens. I didn't think about like, someone will definitely go through that.
>> Bridget:I'm a ghost. That's where I live. That window's cool. And I was like, I call the attic also. That would make such a cool place. Woo hoo. Coffee break. Let's talk about our beans.

>> Alyssa:Oh God. So I do have to say I do appreciate when Ernest was making himself scary. Oh yeah. Those special effects were pretty cool.

>> Alyssa:When his face melted off and then he wiped it up and then yeah, she. And then she runs. Jumps out of window.
>> Bridget:Sir Judy Romano, the. What is it like the Long Island Psychic or something?
>> Alyssa:Like Medium?
>> Bridget:Yeah, yeah, Medium.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. I was really excited when I saw her on it at the beginning when I clicked on it, like, I was like, oh my God, Jennifer Coolidge is in it.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:I think that we're best friends. And I think you are in a parallel universe. Please. I hope so. Then. She was in it for such a short period of time. Of course, did a phenomenal job. But. But I would always have more.
>> Bridget:You could be best friends with Tig Notaro too, because she didn't know you're famous.
>> Alyssa:Well, I don't think so because I think I'm always would be like, did I, did I disappoint her? Did I, Am I cool enough for her where she's like looking down your nose at me? She's like, I don't even know you're in this room, but ye. Yeah, I'm actually going to go see her in September.
>> Wendy:Nice.
>> Bridget:Okay.
>> Alyssa:It'll be fun.
>> Bridget:All right.
>> Alyssa:She's coming to demoing. First of all, can we talk about their road trip to the. See the old guy? To the actual Ernest?
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:What the h***? First of all, I understand his brother's got this flashy car, but, like, why is that what you're escaping in? Because that's just absolutely identifiable. A teenager going on a chase scene was terrifying as a mother.
>> Bridget:Huh?
>> Alyssa:When these Podunk sheriffs locate their vehicle in the gas station, Kevin walks in and the news has his father out there. Of course, now he's a victim. He's pleading for his son, but he says, my son was abducted. That's a victim. Why the h*** did this old dude walk in? First he's like, oh. Then he's like, what do we have here? And then he's like, turn around. Put your hands. Put your hands around behind your back. Like, you're gonna handcuff the victim.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:He didn't steal a car. Like, they didn't report the car stolen. He wasn't the one that. They were like. Like, there's no warrant for him. What the h***? Like, that was.
>> Bridget:You can't handcuff a ghost.
>> Alyssa:That was so crazy to me, that first thing they're gonna do. Also, you don't handcuff a juvenile unless there's. I know too much about that.

>> Alyssa:Only if there's, like, a direct danger.

>> Alyssa:For their safety or yours or the public safety.
>> Bridget:They are supposed kidnapping victims. Why aren't they just calling in and go, we found them.
>> Alyssa:Yep. It would be like, oh, my gosh, we're so happy. The world is looking for you. Look like, instead this guy.
>> Bridget:Like a kid going on a chili ride.
>> Alyssa:Yeah, yeah. Instead, I just assumed, well, racist cop. Because he's like, why are you going to cuff the black kid?
>> Bridget:They did make a lot of racial jokes, which I thought were priceless.
>> Alyssa:Okay.
>> Bridget:Because the mom says we're not going to be like, just another white family in a horror movie.
>> Alyssa:Dumb white family. Yes, I. I laughed, and I think I clapped. Alone, sitting alone.
>> Bridget:Kevin plays the guitar a lot, and dad b****** about him only playing white guy music.
>> Alyssa:Very good music in this movie, by the way.
>> Bridget:Oh, yeah, yeah.
>> Alyssa:Oh, yeah. And I think Kevin. I think the actor was really playing guitar. Like, it looked. I believe it legit. It looked good. I liked it.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:But anyway, so their joyride, their little journey when they're racing through the city. And I'm really impressed that this is Ernest's first time out of the house, that he can position himself and make himself solid enough to land in the. The passenger seat of a cop car. I was like, I thought too much about that. Where I was like, man, I'm not buying it. But I did.
>> Bridget:Like, when he was escaping and just barreling through, oh, every business in the H R Block.
>> Alyssa:Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they were like, d*** move, because they're trying to escape everybody else. It's crazy. And then the semi hits them, and I have no idea how they are not, like, freaking out.
>> Bridget:That was scary.
>> Alyssa:That was. I mean, at least finally there was a chase scene where that actually happened. Because normally you see it where the first car gets away, then the cop car runs into it. But also that was pretty terrifying. Lots of recklessness there. And they did assault the cop when she kicked the young guy. And it's nuts. That was pretty funny.
>> Bridget:When they finally find the real Ernest, it's this old guy, okay. He tells him a bullshit story because he's about as evil as they come.
>> Alyssa:Well, and his wife is sitting there. She had a stroke, so she can't talk. And the way that it, I think, really happened, she was a part of it. She knew it was gonna happen. It was. So we find out that ghost Ernest is Randy. And Randy was married to real Ernest's wife's sister. So.
>> Bridget:Right.
>> Alyssa:So Randy's wife was his sister in
>> Bridget:law, friends and whatnot.
>> Alyssa:Yep. And Randy and his wife had a child. Unfortunately, his wife didn't make it. She had complications in childbirth, and so she didn't survive. Then he makes up a bullshit story that Randy got drunk and sad and dropped their kid off, stole his bowling
>> Bridget:shirt and left, which is not at all true. It does take Randy a little bit of time to put it all together.
>> Alyssa:But it falls into place when the eagle falls.
>> Bridget:Yes. He knocked it over.
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:He was like, I know.
>> Alyssa:And then Ernest was like, randy, is that you? And then he comes to light. And then that's when.
>> Bridget:Here's my question.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:When real Ernest kills Randy in that family's house, did he bring that eagle statue with him?
>> Alyssa:Yeah, they moved with it. My question is, when he kills Randy in the house and he realizes there's blood on his shirt, why did he try to dress a man who's bigger than him in that shirt just to bury him in it? And then instead of just burying the shirt with the body that was weird. That was weird. Like, yeah, you're gonna have to move this large human, roll them to put the shirt on. And then he bothered to button it. Like, what the h***?
>> Bridget:And I don't know if you've ever dug a grave, but that is a lot of work.
>> Alyssa:I see it in shows all the time. And I'm like, bullshit. Also conveniently in the shows that I'm watching, they're like solid, like straight edge. I'm like, no, I bet I would get six inches down, about maybe five, six inches in diameter. And I'd be like, I'm done.
>> Bridget:I'd literally bring the wrong kind of shovel. Oh, you'd have when we were digging for a pond. Yeah, that's when Billy was the one who originally said that. I don't know how people, especially at gunpoint in the movies.
>> Alyssa:Adrenaline.
>> Bridget:Yeah. But yeah, super, super soft soil that
>> Alyssa:somebody just placed there gently. But yeah. So we find out then that Ernest murdered Randy by hitting him in the head. And then they stole the baby and left, like with a story that nobody could probably debunk in back in the day. I'm sure there's a lot of bodies buried in backyards. Then they moved out of there. And then it's terrifying that that guy shows up back at the house and he's all drunk and it's raining and he's like, I love, like terrifying.
>> Bridget:Just the idea he's got a gun and he's gonna go for the 15 year old boy.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:That was a whole f****** shootout scene. And I can't believe nobody got nicked. It's a movie.
>> Alyssa:I know, I know. I also thought a lot about the strength of this old man. He knocks the dad down. He hits him with the frying pan a couple times. He has the strength to get up. He runs upstairs. Right then he's like hitting Kevin with a poker. And just he has all this energy and he like knocks, knocks the door with a Fulton in the basement, knocks him down the basement stairs.
>> Bridget:Like, that's a lot.
>> Alyssa:That was a lot of energy for that guy.
>> Bridget:Definitely.
>> Alyssa:You can be drunk, but you don't have that much energy.
>> Bridget:Well, you're going out the window anyway.
>> Alyssa:Well, yeah, because that's the one time that dad comes through.
>> Bridget:That's right.
>> Alyssa:Because you don't realize that he's gotten up because you can see Ernest. And then he starts running towards Ernest. Kevin's like, no. And then you realize that the old man had gotten up and had the gun. And about, about 15 minutes later, everybody else finally gets upstairs. I was really irritated because before the FBI gets there to raid the place, the dad's sleeping on the couch. Fulton screams, and immediately he's up and at Fulton's side, like, oh, my God. Are you okay? This time they've had this big traumatic experience, and there's a glass that breaks. The dad wakes up a little bit, and the mom's like, well, go check it out. And he's like, oh, okay. I guess I will. And he's the slowest man. Whatever. He's never gonna love Kevin. I will. He can be my baby.
>> Bridget:I've seen this movie now three times.
>> Alyssa:Okay.
>> Bridget:And I have cried every time. Yes. I guess the closure happens when he figures out that that guy kills him. And they go to the beach and everybody gets a chance to say goodbye and they've located his daughter. Yes.
>> Alyssa:So through the movie, I'm getting shivers again. Nobody can actually touch Ernest first. Like, he allows himself to present in a way that's solid, where he can touch somebody. So when she walks up, she lays and puts her hand on his face. And all of these memories come back. And you just see the way he almost has this major exhale and he leans his face into her hand. He's so vulnerable in that moment. And, like, he's given himself into that memory that he's having or the idea, the memories that he is having. And just, like, that's where I got, like, probably the most choked up because I'm like, there. He's finally got it all. Like, he remembers it. And she says, you know, hey, Daddy, or something. Like, she didn't forget him either.
>> Bridget:Right.
>> Alyssa:I liked the closure of it. I liked it a lot.
>> Bridget:I did, too. Yeah.
>> Alyssa:That was good.
>> Bridget:It was beautiful.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:And they miss him.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Yeah. That's when they say, I wonder if he can still see us. And that little light flickers.
>> Alyssa:Yep.
>> Bridget:That's lovely.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. That was a really, really good. And Kevin gets to girl in the end, even though it wasn't really a love story. But it was really cute.
>> Bridget:She was so cute. A little giggle.
>> Alyssa:Yeah. And then their bed is disgusting in that hotel. And she's like, you, I'll just sleep here with you. And he's like, sleep in with me in the bed. And she's like, just don't try to dry hump me. I was like, perfect. That actually was age appropriate. And then Ernest trying to get him out there, like, oh, he changes the radio station. That was pretty cute.
>> Bridget:Yes, sir.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:Yeah. Oh, so cute.
>> Alyssa:Yeah.
>> Bridget:I loved this movie. And I recommend it highly.
>> Alyssa:I recommend it. I really hate the dad. As a parent, I just. See.
>> Bridget:Well, you gotta have somebody to hate.
>> Alyssa:I know, but I hate him so much.
>> Bridget:Yeah.
>> Alyssa:Because Tig Notaro can be the bad character for a while and then her CIA boss or whatever, hate him.
>> Bridget:But he doesn't know any better. He has no. He doesn't know himself. He doesn't know how to be a. A great father. Maybe he'll figure it out.
>> Alyssa:I hope so. I. Yeah, I hope so. What did mom do for a living?
>> Bridget:Who knows?
>> Alyssa:I didn't know she was just on her computer asking everybody to get the door. What are you doing?
>> Bridget:I don't know. I don't know.
>> Alyssa:Maybe. She's working 15 hours a week. She's probably supporting the family 15 hours a day. I'm sorry. Whatever it is that you have to do.
>> Bridget:Whatever it is that I do. Oh, yeah, yeah.
>> Alyssa:No, I. It was good. I. I mean, I did enjoy it the second time I watched it. I still don't like dad, but. No, no, I like. I think you should watch it. For sure.

>> Alyssa:I think we did it. We flick some beads. Okay.
