>> Bridget:

Foreign.

>> Wendy:

Good morning.

>> Bridget:

I'm Bridget.

>> Wendy:

And I'm Wendy.

>> Bridget:

And this is Flick and Beans. I feel like I'm kind of losing my voice here.

>> Wendy:

Oh, yeah.

>> Bridget:

I could hardly do pe. How are you?

>> Wendy:

Good. My coffee is yummy. Thank you for bringing me a Seven brew.

>> Bridget:

Do you know what it is?

>> Wendy:

It's some kind of breve.

>> Bridget:

I. Sorry. Seven birthday. I'll taste that. The same.

>> Wendy:

They do.

>> Bridget:

It's a cinnamon roll.

>> Wendy:

Okay. Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

It's yummy. Well, I can taste the coffee today, so that's a bonus. It's not just milk.

>> Bridget:

I really threw the girl off. She goes, what can I get for you this morning? And I said, I don't know.

>> Wendy:

Help me.

>> Bridget:

I know. She was. She was a deer. No headlights.

>> Wendy:

No, she had.

>> Bridget:

She was like. I was not prepared for this. Oh, well, anyway, it's kind of a dreary, gloomy morning and I don't have a voice. And we've got coffees and. Yeah, I'm raring to go.

>> Wendy:

Okay.

>> Bridget:

Okay, let's.

>> Wendy:

Let's just get into it.

>> Bridget:

All right.

>> Wendy:

Our movie this Week, a** backwards 2013 and is currently streaming on tubi. Did you be. I loved it.

>> Bridget:

I loved it.

>> Wendy:

Of course. Okay, so I. Once I saw that Jean Diane Raphael was in it.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

I was in. Because I love her. Big fan.

>> Bridget:

Which one is she?

>> Wendy:

She is Kate.

>> Bridget:

Perfect. Yes. She's amazing.

>> Wendy:

Yes. I love her so much. And I love her husband, too. And I think they're such a weird couple because he's so homely.

>> Bridget:

Who's her husband? Do you.

>> Wendy:

Do you watch the league?

>> Bridget:

I have, yeah.

>> Wendy:

Andre on the league.

>> Bridget:

Oh, God. That's her husband.

>> Wendy:

That's her husband.

>> Bridget:

Hilarious.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, but they're cute together.

>> Bridget:

I'm sure.

>> Wendy:

But she's like so gorgeous.

>> Bridget:

She is.

>> Wendy:

And he's kind of weird looking.

>> Bridget:

She's got that perfect way of carrying herself, like just that. I have no idea how inappropriate I

>> Wendy:

am behaving right now.

>> Bridget:

But in a classy way.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, she always looks classy. I don't know if it's just because she's tall and has long legs or what or just so pretty. But yeah, something about her is very graceful all the time.

>> Bridget:

Yes.

>> Wendy:

And then her best friend is Casey Wilson. Chloe. Kate and Chloe. How do they say it?

>> Bridget:

They say it.

>> Wendy:

I'm Kate.

>> Bridget:

I'm Kate.

>> Wendy:

And that's Chloe.

>> Bridget:

She's Chloe.

>> Wendy:

Something like that.

>> Bridget:

Me, Kate. She's good.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. Their little catchphrase. They were so cute together. And they wrote this together. Did you.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

Pick that up.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

So I loved that, too, that they were writing and starring in the movie. I don't understand why it was called A** backward, though.

>> Bridget:

I think it was supposed to start with their bare a****.

>> Wendy:

And it did.

>> Bridget:

And then they were doing that, and I just read a little blurb where they were like, why did we write this? As we're, you know, on all fours having a makeup artist put makeup on our butts. Why did we write this? I don't know why it was called that.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. Other than that. But that is the opening scene. Kate and Chloe are peeing on a sidewalk. Relatable. Have you ever had to do that? Like, in a city or like you were drunk somewhere usually and couldn't go to the bathroom? Had pop a squat on the city street.

>> Bridget:

Not on the street. Cornfield side of the road.

>> Wendy:

Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So when I spent time in London, everything closes kind of early. Like where we lived, we were in a business district. So we go out to the pub and it would be like 11 o' clock and nothing would be open. And you've been out drinking beers and had to pee and had a long walk home. I don't know how many times I peed on the street in London.

>> Bridget:

Oh, my God, girl.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, but there's there. Well, there's no proof that I know of. Before surveillance, it was a different time. Yeah. I don't think there was as many cameras, just security cameras as there are now. Yeah. But now you do that, 10 people have their ring light. Light on you. Or the ring light, their ring doorbell on you.

>> Bridget:

That's so.

>> Wendy:

Can't get away with publication.

>> Bridget:

Right. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. So this movie reminded me an awful lot of Romeo and Michelle.

>> Wendy:

Absolutely. I wrote that too, you know.

>> Bridget:

Yeah. It's a road trip. It's these two friends that are unbelievably still close in their, what, 20s? The gist was that they got an invitation to go back to what, like a pageant reunion?

>> Wendy:

Yeah. It was the 50th anniversary of the page, and they had been in it when they were little girls. So I'm guessing that they're, like, in their 30s now.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

Because the Spring breakers called them old.

>> Bridget:

Right. That was so funny when they're trying to act cool.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Oh, yeah. These two. No. And the only reason they encountered the spring breakers was because they slept outside the hotel by the pool.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. They have no money, couldn't afford a room. They got evicted from their apartment. And so they decided, well, we're evicted anyway. Let's go to this reunion of this pageant that was traumatizing to them because they didn't win.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

And they. They also both messed up very publicly. Kate couldn't answer the question in the Q and A portion, and Chloe is a terrible singer, but continues to try.

>> Bridget:

One of the. My favorite encounters that they had along the path were the tribe of women.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

I don't want to say they're lesbians, but they were women only. Community and, you know, living off the

>> Wendy:

land, granola, fighting the patriarchy.

>> Bridget:

There were so many parts of them staying the night with this group. The first one was when they had the talent show. Yeah. And the woman gets up there and she's just, like, got pasties on and doing some kind of a jungle y dance. And Chloe gets up to do her talent, and it's singing and she really belts it out silently.

>> Wendy:

In vogue, too.

>> Bridget:

In vogue.

>> Wendy:

Nev. Callaged.

>> Bridget:

Nev. Callaged. She doesn't make a sound. She does the entire song, including the breakdown.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. But she says, now it's time for a breakdown at normal volume. Everything else is whispered. And she's got dance moves and. Yeah.

>> Bridget:

God, it's funny. But then Kate gets up to do her quote talent. Because she's a big business lady, which she is not.

>> Wendy:

No.

>> Bridget:

Oh, yeah. We should point out how she earns money.

>> Wendy:

Her job selling her eggs.

>> Bridget:

So she's injecting herself like, twice a day. Oh, that's ridiculous.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. Especially for. I guess, I don't know how much eggs go for, But I had like, an acquaintance that sold hers one time, and she only got like five grand for it. So it's not. I mean, that'll get you by for a while.

>> Bridget:

To having children pass by who looked like her.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Throughout the whole movie.

>> Wendy:

That made me think of the joke that you like to tell of.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

When people ask you if you have any children and you say, not that I know of.

>> Bridget:

Exactly.

>> Wendy:

And it's a joke because usually a woman will know, but she could actually say that that was.

>> Bridget:

Yeah, that was something.

>> Wendy:

I have some running around out there. That's a weird thing to think about. Yeah.

>> Bridget:

So Kate gets up there to do her quote talent. The group of women wants more members. They want younger members. They don't want to just die out this dozen or so ladies. So Kate gets up there and she goes, okay, well, let's see. And she basically outlines her idea of how to get more members. And it is awfully similar to slavery.

>> Wendy:

Yes.

>> Bridget:

You just go to another country and you gather them all up and you pack Them in a boat.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. Because you want to keep overhead low.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

Couldn't afford to fly them all.

>> Bridget:

And it's just. That is the whole beauty of her character is she's absolutely so sincere. It makes perfect sense. And then she's like, you're welcome.

>> Wendy:

You're welcome. One's for free.

>> Bridget:

Yeah. Goodness. When they fix their van.

>> Wendy:

Yes. The. Yeah, the women's group fixes their van.

>> Bridget:

The woman comes in and she said, you know, you'll be ready for you in the morning. And then they just assume there's no such thing as a free van. Well, time to pay the piper.

>> Wendy:

And then you hear rape whistles.

>> Bridget:

Oh, my God. I would never make that assumption.

>> Wendy:

No.

>> Bridget:

Just to get up and crawl into bed with this woman.

>> Wendy:

The woman was not alluding to it or being suggestive at all. Like you would expect a man in that situation.

>> Bridget:

Exactly.

>> Wendy:

But they just assume. Yeah. That they have to trade. They were feminine wiles for a ride home. One of the things that this movie really nails about female friendship is the toxic positivity in it and how no matter what they say, the other one just comes up with a way to make it sound like, oh, no, but this is meant to be. Like, I'm actually glad we got evicted. That kind of behavior. I totally am witness to that in my female friendships because we just want to help each other and pump each other up. But sometimes you got to tell your friend, like, no. Yeah, this isn't a good thing.

>> Bridget:

Right. Well, if they do eventually have the fight.

>> Wendy:

Yes.

>> Bridget:

You have to have a big falling out.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

On a road trip, it just happens.

>> Wendy:

That's how you find out who your real friends and. Or boyfriend materials are.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

You go on that trip and did it survive the tension? Can you get along enough to still be together by the end of the trip?

>> Bridget:

I cannot imagine going on a road trip with no money.

>> Wendy:

Right. Well, they have a rotation of credit cards who they know by their last four digits. Should we try 6782? No, no. I did some crazy thing and maxed that one out. That's a funny scene, but yeah. The just sheer unawareness of how it takes money to do things. I don't know.

>> Bridget:

Speaking of credit cards, when her dad pulls out those bowls from the freezer, the credit cards are frozen in the water. I've done that.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, I have done that.

>> Bridget:

I'm not kidding. You have to really think hard if you want to charge something.

>> Wendy:

Sure.

>> Bridget:

Well, that was back before your computer remembered the numbers.

>> Wendy:

The computer saving your credit card is so dangerous.

>> Bridget:

I know it, I know it.

>> Wendy:

But yeah, there definitely is a lot of similarities to Romeo Michelle. I wrote this is a modern day Romeo Michelle. There's the trying to go back and prove yourself 20 years later kind of thing. There's the their life's not where they want it to be kind of thing. Romeo Michelle doesn't have as much of this, but pining after an old flame. They have all their possessions in this van. And the only thing that Chloe won't get rid of is the scrapbook she's made of her ex boyfriend. And they broke up nine and a half years ago.

>> Bridget:

Years ago. Oh, he'll be back any day.

>> Wendy:

Yes. That's one of those things. Like Kate keeps being like, oh, I just feel it. Like he's coming back around. He's circling. He's gonna call any moment. That's one of those things you shouldn't be hyping her friend up on. Right, right. That's where it becomes toxic.

>> Bridget:

Right. Oh, wow, you're right. I like that phrase. Toxic positivity.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

I think Midwesterners were the king of it because we are nice, but not necessarily kind. Like, niceness doesn't mean you're a good person. We're just polite. We don't like confrontation. And that can cause you to be positive in situations where maybe you shouldn't be. We don't. Where are they from? They're living in New York City. That's right. Yeah. And they're going supposedly just four hours outside of the city, but it takes them four days. That's another thing that doesn't make sense about this movie is that if they were trying to get to this place, they wouldn't have given themselves four days to get there. But it takes them four days.

>> Bridget:

Oh, my God. Well, they do go a whole day in the wrong direction.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. Because of the press ons. Yes, yes, yes. The tips. I can relate. I have long nails on right now and they do typing on a gps, those kind of things. When sometimes I think about like, this is so dumb. Why do I do this? But I love them so much.

>> Bridget:

They're so pretty.

>> Wendy:

You look at your hands a lot.

>> Bridget:

I have the grossest hands. I don't look at mine.

>> Wendy:

Well, you're on your keyboard, you're on your phone, you're doing stuff. You're always looking at your hands. So I like when they look nice. Except I'm missing one right now, so hiding it. There you go.

>> Bridget:

I like that.

>> Wendy:

I just popped it off this morning.

>> Bridget:

I just wish I Had nice, soft, pliable cuticles.

>> Wendy:

Don't we all?

>> Bridget:

Oh, my God. I am ragged.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. They meet a lot of characters, as you do on one of these road trips, and one of them is somebody that they saw on the show Intervention.

>> Bridget:

Right.

>> Wendy:

Except they call it rehabilitation for copyright things. But yeah. So they're drinking and watching Intervention, which relatable. And they run into one of the people that were on the show when they get arrested.

>> Bridget:

Right.

>> Wendy:

They are like, he's a celebrity.

>> Bridget:

Yeah. They love it.

>> Wendy:

Be cool. Be cool. And they act like he's some big movie star. Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

And end up actually smoking meth with him. He bails him out. They go back to his place. It's so s*****. They're still just, like, oblivious somehow that he's still addicted to meth. Then he pulls it out, and somehow they're like, yeah, let's whatever, f*** it. And they have a grand old time. But then the addict decides that this is his rock bottom. This is it.

>> Bridget:

These two women dancing around in the living room.

>> Wendy:

I was like, this isn't rock bottom. This looks fun.

>> Bridget:

No, for him. For him.

>> Wendy:

No.

>> Bridget:

Goodness. What am I doing with my life right now? You're so ridiculous.

>> Wendy:

They're really ridiculous. But, yeah, they're acting. And the performance is great from both the girls. I love both of these actresses, especially June Diane. But I've seen Casey Wilson in a few other things I liked. Have you watched Happy Endings? It's a sitcom. It's sort of like a friends or a new girl kind of situation. And she's on that, and she's really funny on it.

>> Bridget:

Okay.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, perfect. I think she might be a writer on that too.

>> Bridget:

This is definitely one of those movies that is gonna be, like, in my top five.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

The. The kind that you can just put on.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

And veg out or, you know, in the background. The. That you're gonna know all the words.

>> Wendy:

You know, I know this being the first time that I watched it, I. I'm not able to quote it, but I feel like it's a quotable movie.

>> Bridget:

Definitely.

>> Wendy:

I could find myself quoting it later. It's. Yeah. It's funny. If you're into any of these, like, buddy rom coms, like Romeo Michelle or Barb and Star. It's like they're. They're like, in between Barb and Star and Romeo Michelle, age wise, I think I love it.

>> Bridget:

No culottes.

>> Wendy:

No culottes. But they do wake up in a waterbed together, which tickled me. We did kind of allude to her dad but we find out that Chloe's dad has been financing a lot of their stuff and she is under the impression that he's rich. And then they go see him and he's living in a trailer and he has to get his credit card out of the ice block because he is giving all his money to Chloe for the things like waterbed.

>> Bridget:

Exactly. Oh, sweet dad.

>> Wendy:

He is very sweet.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

I think he does a similar like, oh, let me try another card kind of thing that they do.

>> Bridget:

That's the first time they get kind of a twinge of guilt.

>> Wendy:

Yeah.

>> Bridget:

Realizing that it doesn't come easily for him.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, he's been a toxic positivity.

>> Bridget:

Yeah, exactly.

>> Wendy:

He's been trying to put on a front so that he can. He loves his daughter and there comes

>> Bridget:

a little crack in the facade.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, they. I don't even think they stay there, do they? Oh, yeah, they do stay the night, but that's when they're watching the intervention show, when they're on the pull out in the trailer. This is a movie I'd recommend.

>> Bridget:

Me too.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, for sure. It was funny. I had a lot of like actual laugh out loud moments. For me, I think one of them was the performance of the in vogue whispering. I was laughing pretty hard during that part. Her dance moves, she's a go go dancer by day.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

So she has some moves and they put her in a big glass floating box kind of. I think that would be kind of fun.

>> Bridget:

I do too.

>> Wendy:

Except how long do you have to dance? Because dancing for like four hours or. Yeah, maybe longer. That would be tough. Yeah.

>> Bridget:

I need a cocktail.

>> Wendy:

That's why they're all on coke.

>> Bridget:

Oh God, you're right. Oh my God.

>> Wendy:

You can't dance all night if you're not hopped up on something.

>> Bridget:

You can't dance all night and you can't drink all day if you don't start early.

>> Wendy:

Yeah. It's one of my favorite phrases now.

>> Bridget:

My favorite phrase after this movie is time to pay the piper. Oh, and that they sent them a whole box of rape whistles.

>> Wendy:

Yeah, yeah, I forgot about that at the end.

>> Bridget:

Oh, so sweet.

>> Wendy:

The fun little twist ending. All throughout the movie they are talking about this real estate investment that they made cuz they don't have any money. Kate wants to sell it. She's like, we should just sell it. Or Chloe wants to sell it. Kate's like, no, we can't. This is, you know, for our future. This is, you know, for the end of our life.

>> Bridget:

Yeah.

>> Wendy:

And you're thinking like retirement.

>> Bridget:

Yeah. Like what? Real estate?

>> Wendy:

Yeah. And then we find out that it's their grave plots. Yes. Oh.

>> Bridget:

And they side by side.

>> Wendy:

We didn't talk about Andrew either.

>> Bridget:

Oh, God.

>> Wendy:

At one point early on in the movie, Chloe just picks up a random rabbit and thinks she needs to save it from the wilderness and names it Andrew. And they constantly forget that they have it. But at the end, Andrew has his own little plot.

>> Bridget:

Yes. Oh, my God. Well, did we do it?

>> Wendy:

I think we did it. We flicked some beats. Okay. Love you. Bye.

>> Bridget:

Bye. Party all night long.
