S4 Ep #104 - Why More Money Doesn’t Fix the Money Story With Katie Martin
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, I’m joined by Katie Martin, also known as Mrs Martin, the Mindset and Money Mentor.
Katie helps women change the way they think, feel and behave with money, not from a place of shame, but from understanding the stories, beliefs and patterns that have been running in the background.
In this conversation, we talk about why money is never just about the numbers.
It’s about safety.
Identity.
Worth.
Control.
Avoidance.
Hustling.
And the stories we inherited long before we even realised they were shaping our financial decisions.
Katie shares her own journey with money, how she created the Mrs Martin identity, and why women can have completely different incomes but still be running the same money story underneath.
Whether you’re on Centrelink, in a career, building a business, or earning more than you ever thought possible, the pattern can still look the same.
Avoiding the bank account.
Feeling guilty for spending.
Hustling for more but never feeling safe.
Waiting until you “know enough” to start investing.
Feeling like money disappears as quickly as it comes in.
Or believing that wealth is for other people, but not for you.
We also speak about money archetypes, the difference between avoidance and alignment, why discomfort doesn’t always mean something is wrong, and how small daily shifts can start changing the way you relate to money.
This episode is for the woman who knows she’s ready to stop ignoring her money, stop making herself wrong for what she doesn’t know, and start building a healthier relationship with wealth, safety and self-trust.
Because changing your money story isn’t just about having more money.
It’s about becoming the woman who can hold it, grow it, speak about it, and make empowered decisions with it.

Hello everybody and welcome to the Happy Healthy and Healing Podcast. My name is Stacey and I'm your host. And today I am joined by a very special guest, Katie Martin, aka Mrs. Martin. And I'm incredibly excited for this chat because we are chatting all things money beliefs and money stories and money archetypes and the impact that our stories and our beliefs about money can have on our day-to-day life. Whether you are in business, you have a career, you're a parent, whatever chapter in life that you're in, our money stories literally have shaped us. And we are passing them on to the next generation. I actually met Katie back in a training. And from the moment that I met her, I just loved what she is about. And though her business has evolved to where it is now, becoming a money mentor, I loved how practical Katie can be and how she has the ability to call you forward and also help you take those steps to move forward. And I love how Katie is just so bold, unfiltered. She's just unapologetically obsessed with making and managing and growing money. She is not just another finance bro who, you know, sits there in their suit telling you to, oh, cut out your lattes or tells you to manifest money from a bubble bath. She is a money mentor for women who are done playing small. And the thing I love so much is that she took her money from scattered to strategic and she helps people turn their skills into extra income because making money should feel easy. A pivotal wake up for Katie made her realize that her financial security wouldn't just be handed to her. She had no big inheritance coming. She had to create it herself. And that moment right there set her on a deep path of self-education. Mrs. Martin is self-taught and starting small with tracking and saving and investing in ways that made sense to her. And over the years, she's created financial freedom buckets for her future self to hit her goals and has created a simple systemized approach for growing wealth. And now she teaches other women how to change their relationship with money so that they can build real financial power and wealth. I'm incredibly excited for this chat. Let's get into it. Hey Katie, welcome to the podcast. I'm super excited to have you on here today and to hear about a bit about your journey and your wisdom and your knowledge, especially talking all things about money beliefs. So welcome. I'd love to start off with you sharing a little bit about your journey into becoming Mrs. Martin because a lot of the listeners, they actually are in a transition in their life. Whether it's, you know, they've entered motherhood, they're going on to their kids are growing up, maybe it's in their career or business. And I feel like watching your journey from the sidelines has been something that's been quite inspirational to me. So I'd love for you to share just a little bit about what that's been like for you to navigate.
SPEAKER_01Thank you so much for having me here. That was such a big question because the identity is absolutely everything. Like everything that everything that we feel, everything that we we think we feel, the way that we behave is all tied back to our identity and how we see ourselves. And so it's a really, it's a really powerful question. And so the identity of Mrs. Martin came off the back of going through quite a turbulent period in my life. And I feel like that's what a lot of women go through. It's like, I don't know, I feel like, and I might be diverting here, but it let me know if you feel this as well. But sometimes the whole like manifestation and creating all that dream life, it's kind of idolized as this like, oh, like I got my dream house, I got my dream car, I got my dream job, I got my dream clients. And it's kind of all idolized as this amazing, beautiful experience that we get to have. And yet I believe that a lot of the times those aha moments come from emotional turmoil, a roller coaster, wondering what is going on, feeling you're alone in the depths, you know, a big significant event has happened that's caused emotional pain or fear or all these different emotions that come up. And then you get at the end of it and you're like, oh my God, oh my gosh. This is amazing. I'm a new me. And so, you know, the identity of Mrs. Martin had been brewing for a very, very long time. But it was just like everyone, I bet you if you're in your podcast, you have this little growl in your belly. It like sits just here and it's this little low-level growl and this constant obsession with money, right? This constant love for it. I love managing it. Like you should see my spreadsheets. It's I nerd out over it. Every Sunday I sit with my coffee. What happened for the week? Where da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. Like it, it I love it. I love learning about it. I love making sense of financial things, you know. And yet there was this low-level guilt around it because I shouldn't, I shouldn't be so obsessed with it. Why, why do I love it? Why am I so obsessed with it? It's not the right thing. And then you go to all these personal development rooms and you've got to have a mission. It's not about the money. And I'm like, but I love the money. It's been this long-term thing that I've had from someone who was initially a voider, you know, so bad with my money, you didn't even used to log in. And then slowly all these aha moments happened over my life to the point now where I'm actually like, I actually love it. I'm a sister, I love talking about it, I love looking at it, I love managing it, I love being my best friend with it. And I was with a company for like five years and we decided to part ways. And I got to this point where I was like doing a lot of marketing and social media and all of this money stuff's in the background. And I wonder how many women are doing this. I wonder how many women have something they're doing on the front end, but something they really love behind the scenes, but they haven't stepped into that identity. They haven't been big enough and bold enough and brave enough to talk about it. And I was sitting in my office, you know, tears. It was a very emotional time, it was big for me. What am I gonna do with my life? And this call it a spiritual moment. I don't know what it was. This big resounding voice was like, money. And I'm like, no, no. All the limiting beliefs, the identity that I had at the time. You can't do that. You haven't even made a million dollars. You don't have a seven-figure portfolio. Who are you to teach women money? You know, all those limiting beliefs just popped up. But it was like this annoying little poking at my shoulder for three days straight, going, what if, what if, what if? And I went, okay. So then I sat down, I'm a very visual person. I opened Canva and it went boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Mrs. Martin was born. And I remember going inside, it literally flow. I've never, you know, when people talk about being in flow? Yeah. But this was next level. Like I just, the world disappeared and I was just like, boom, into my computer. Did up a brand guideline, brand mood boards, colours, photos, logos, like just it just literally poured out of me. And I walked inside and I said, babe, I've got it. And he's like, Okay. Mrs. Martin, the money mentor. And he's like, sure. Because my husband's just a yes man. The thing was, we weren't married yet. So we were getting married in September. And I was like, is that weird to call myself Mrs. Martin before we're married? And he's like, nah, you'll be fine. And because he's so chill with that sort of stuff. And, you know, it's a fun story, it's an emotional story, it's got it's got all the things in it. But I think what was really good about it is stepping into that, Mrs. Martin. It allowed me to break up with KT Creative and all the pink and all the social media and all of that. And it allowed me to visually and on the front end help me step into the identity of Mrs. Martin.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I remember actually watching, um, I can't remember if it was a live or a video that you shared on actually going through it. And the raw emotion that you were sharing was, I was like, wow, like I can actually feel this. It's almost like the the shift of, oh no, this is what I should be doing. I'm in this box and I've created this box and it's safe. And so I need to just step outside of it. And and watching you go through that process is like in the last few months, I kind of feel like I've been going through something similar and like I've literally drawn back to that memory, going, you don't have to stay inside the one box that you've created. Like whatever your beliefs are right now, whether that's to do with your life, your relationship, your career, your money, whatever stories, it's like we get to change them. And it's the messy middle. I think in the past, like I used to go, oh yeah, when I reach this, I'll be that person, or then I'll be happy. Yeah. And it's like actually you only spend maybe five or 10% of your time there. And then you're in the next very phase. Yeah. And it's like that that void piece is where you learn so many lessons. You have so many shifts. It's not actually when you get there. And so, yeah, I like actually watching your journey and seeing the evolution has been something that has given me that inspiration to go, hey, no, it's okay. Like, we don't need to stay in the Stacey Ellison box. I could maybe go over there if I want, and maybe not go over there. One thing that you touched on was stories about money. And I think that is something that I'm seeing more and more with the women that I coach is yes, we work through beliefs of I'm not good enough, I'm not unworthy, whatever story they've created, but a massive one at the moment, and maybe it's the economy and the news that I don't watch around money stories and beliefs. And it's interesting to hear what is coming out of women's mouth. However, I'd love for you to share, I guess, some of the money stories and beliefs that you've experienced or that you're seeing with a lot of women these days, especially right now with how the world's going.
SPEAKER_01The biggest one is always when I earn more, when I get an increase, or when things settle down, then I'll insert whatever the thing is that they want to do. And so it's this constant story of when I make more, then I'll. And it's and it ties back to everything. It ties back to there's a big theme with money. When I make more, then I'll be happy. When I do this, then I'll, then I'll, then I'll. And like what you just said before, we're constantly chasing that end goal. And the biggest, the biggest flip is to to actually fall in love with the journey, which is easier said than done. I realize that. Like, I'm not just gonna be on this podcast and say all the stuff that most people say. It's hard, even I'm guilty of doing it. But when it comes to those stories, the thing that absolutely like fascinates me, like time and time and time and time again, like it never gets old, is when people come into my world and they are avoiders, so they're not even looking, I'm no good with money, someone else handles it. It's just not my thing. They could be hustlers, so they're just like, if I just work harder, if I just do the thing like work, work, work, work, work, and I'll deal with that later. And when I'm making more, then I'll sort it out and everything's just in their head, they're 100 miles an hour. Or maybe they're the dreamers, so the dreamers are like, if I just manifest, if I align, if I make my affirmations, you know. And then we've got the architects who are who are kind of already managing everything, they're structuring everything, and maybe they're a little bit too obsessed with their money and they don't have any fun with it. So you've got main mainly those trees, the avoiders, the hustlers, and the dreamers, and they they come into my world with that story. So I avoid, I hustle, or I'm just aligning harder for the universe. And it doesn't matter what income level they're on. So I've got women who are on Centelink. I've got women that are five, six, seven figure earners. And it's crazy that the number doesn't influence, like it's still the same story. Yeah. This is the bit that that that baffles me. And so you've got the multi-six figures avoiding, not managing, no money left over at the end of the week, and not investing. And then the person who's, you know, on 50k a year is like, what? If I had that sort of money, yeah, I would be, oh, I'd be set. You know, if I was earning 200K a year, oh, I'd be, life would be perfect. And it and it's just because the it's it's how does this happen? Because it's the story. It's the story that we're telling ourselves no matter what income level we're at. And so I think so much of the world is programmed to the number. The number, the number, and the number and the behavior. What are you doing with that? You know, you need to budget, you need to invest, you need to do this, you cut back on your matri lattes. We know all of this. We know it all. Who doesn't know the that you need to do these things? Everyone would be nodding along, going, Yeah, I know I need to get started investing. Like we we logically know all of this. So why don't we do it? And this is where my work comes in because this is this is the gap that I saw. So many women have this story. They logically, they're smart, they're capable, they're put together, they know what they're doing, yet they still don't do the thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Why? Because it's locked in through the identity, how they think and how they feel with money drives their behavior. But we live in a world that focuses on the behavior. You need to cut back your expenses and whatever's left over, you need to invest it. And then you might do that for a couple of weeks and then you self-sabotage and don't do it anymore. Because we actually need to come back to the root cause, which is, you know, the work that you do. Like it's like, what are you thinking? What are you feeling? We need to change the identity. So all of the stories sit inside the identity, and it's just so crazy that it's a very similar story on all different levels. And then as soon as they change that story of how they think, how they feel, it was never my intention with Mrs. Martin to have the main result of what I do be women invest. That was never my intention. Yet it's happening, and it's the one of the key results that my work does is women get the confidence to then invest. I'm not a financial advisor. I don't tell people where to invest, what to invest, what I don't, that's not my jam. Yet one of the key results, if you look at all of every single one on my way and all the testimonials, it's like, I now have the confidence to invest. I've now talking to my kids about investing. Oh my God, I've got my first $100. Oh my God, I've got my first $1,000. Oh my God, I just hit $5K in my investment account. And I'm sitting here and I'm just like, what the flip is this happening? Like, how is this happening? I'm not teaching investing. It's because I'm not focused on the behavior. I'm focused on the story of once you believe that you are a woman who manages your money, who does invest, you will find the money. It's like it's I I know it sounds corny, but it's like magic. And people think, oh, well, no, well, when I when I make more, then I'll invest. Yet every single woman in my world, there's no pay rise, there's no lottery, there's no inheritance. They didn't all of a sudden double their money.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's they changed their story.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I'd love to know a little bit more what you're seeing in how the women's relationship with money is being formed. Because I feel like there's a lot of society beliefs around money. Like I know I'm literally picturing my auntie who's an accountant, like Stacey, you've got to work hard and you've got to do all this. And when you're 65 or older, 67 now, whatever it is, then you can retire. Then you can enjoy it. You know, then you can enjoy yourself. Or, you know, and I feel like maybe for me, part of that is also taking a bit of confidence or empowerment out of actually investing and learning a little bit more and having that financial literacy. So I'd love to hear what you're seeing in relationships with money and how those stories are formed for women. So the number one way is actually our upbringing.
SPEAKER_01It's it's actually our parents or whoever our caregivers were when we were growing up. That is the absolute number one story, like in how they're created. And so there's a lot of generational beliefs that that happen. And whether your parents spoke about money or didn't is just as powerful. So some people be like, no, there were never any arguments. Like, you know, me, for example, my story. When I first started, so I'm like, no, like my parents, they didn't fight about money, they didn't, you know, argue about money, they didn't do this. Like it was pretty chill. And then I learned modeling doesn't necessarily have to be in words, it can be in action. And it was like, oh, they worked their ass off. They were never home. I was always with my grandma. That dad worked two jobs, mum worked two jobs. It was work, work, work, work, work. And then my mum has the audacity to tell me to stop working so hard. And I'm like, oh, where did I get it from? So, so modeling when you it doesn't necessarily, it could even be the conversations you didn't have as a kid. So the the parent, what happened in your household or what didn't happen in your household really sets the foundations. And you know, this is part of my defining story, which I don't know if you've heard, but it was like the moment my dad sitting on the deck meant a few words, honestly. Like we had chats, but they were very surface level. And I feel like a lot of people relate to this story because like my same age women, that demographic of the of the parents that you just sort of work hard and sitting on the deck, and he was living with me by that stage because he was just, yeah, not in a good place. And he looks at me and he goes, you know, Kate, don't do what I did. And I was like, what's that, dad? And he just looks me dead in the eye and he says, Work your fucking ass off and had nothing to show for it. Excuse my language. And I just honestly, it was like an out-of-body experience where I where it's like I floated up, I saw me and I saw dad, and it all just landed. And I went, Oh shit, that's my money story.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He just, he just verbalized my whole family. He worked really hard, nothing to show for it. Mum worked really hard, nothing. Wait, my grandparents, they worked really hard, nothing to show. Wait, they're and then all of a sudden, I just get sponsored. All of a sudden I started like looking at the lineage, and I'm like, oh my God, there is there's no money in our family. There's no money skills, there's no wealth, there's no, there's nothing. And no one ever, no one ever stopped and went, should we maybe do it another way? And that's where my mission, that's where my the true core mission of everything that I do is breaking generational cycles. And that stops with me. And that's why I'm so passionate about teaching kids about money because of that defining moment. So yeah, I'd love for everyone. The the number one question that I get people to do is if you're listening to this, you can say, like, depending on how your relationship is with your parents and if it's safe to do so, like you can say, like, oh, I was just listening to this podcast, or you don't even have to do an intro. You literally just ask the question, what does money mean to you? And that's it. You don't say anything else. You say, What does money mean for you? If you're catching up with your mom or if you're catching up with your dad in then in the next week or so after you've listened to this, just say, what does money mean to you? And just see what the answer is. You just listen. You there's no judgment, there's no arguments, there's no, you just listen. And it's absolutely fascinating when people do that and then they're like, oh my God, because then they realize the things that they're doing comes directly from their parents.
SPEAKER_00That's such a powerful question to ask. My dad is quite successful in his own business. And so money was something that never really was spoken about. And it's only now that like I scaled and sold a business and we traveled Australia like Katie's doing at the moment, and you know, then re-landing here, starting to ramp up business again. And it's only now that like I'm 37 and having these conversations with my dad about money and realizing what actually also they were going through, however, how that's tied into my belief with money, because it was that story for me, money is bad because my dad was never around, he's always at work. Whereas now I'm like, oh wow, like I can see what was happening from that different lens. So I'm even gonna go and ask that question to him and just see that you know, he's 63 and ask he's still in business and he works his absolute guts out. And I actually, I don't know why this is popping up, but I'm gonna share it anyway. When we sold the gym, I actually was scared to tell my dad there was so much fear that I was disappointing him because I had this picture of dad's been in business for 20 years, he's you know, works I need to. Yeah, and then he actually said to me, he's like, and man a few words, he said, Stace, I'm actually so proud of you for actually doing it with your kids while they're young and giving it a go. And he goes, Stacy, he goes, you always make things work, and you know, that's one great skill that he's like, I've given you is that you are Brazilian and you will keep going and you will make it happen no matter what. And he one thing he said to me um recently is like, always back yourself. And I feel like more and more as he's getting older, like unfortunately it's taken to this to have these conversations. Whereas, you know, when we were traveling, Ruby had a business making bracelets. She was learning about profit, she was learning about all of these things. I'm like, this is why I love the work that you do so much, but because it is breaking that generational, you know, the lineage, the things that we've passed down to our kids by actually educating it. And people on the road were like, oh my God, like she's only six and she's, you know, got all of this worked out. I was like, well, that's because I believe that we need to teach them. They don't teach them at schools about money to the capacity that they need to learn these days. And, you know, being an entrepreneur is something that, of course, I would love for my kids to do to follow their passion. And at the same time, it either way, whatever they do, I believe this is a life skill that they need. So speaking into that, I actually would love for you to share one story I'm hearing is a lot of women are like, Stacey, I'm feeling stuck. And whether they are wanting to leave a relationship, they're wanting to change careers, whatever. There's this real story around I don't know what to do with money, or I don't know where to start, or it feels too hard. And so they kind of just go into that overwhelm and don't do anything. So, do you have any sort of practical things of where you could point them to actually start on their journey?
SPEAKER_01And I so this is where I'm gonna bounce back to the foundation of the archetypes, I guess you'd call it, because it's the foundation of a lot of my work because how you think and feel and behave with money. Money's a fickle topic, right? Like it's everyone's got their own. Yeah, and everyone's got their different little things that they do behind closed doors, or you know, they go out, they spend the money on the sheets, and then they feel guilt. Who are they telling about? that guilt. Whereas someone else can go out, spend the money on the sheets and be like, I'm best thing ever. Look at my new sheet. So, so you know, it's like this, this, oh, it's such a, it's such an interesting topic with all of these little things. So I think that's where like the generic blanket, cut your expenses and save this and blah, blah, blah, just kind of falls on death ears because, you know, everyone's so different. So in terms of knowing where you are, if you are an avoider, which I'd say I'd say most people in my world are avoiders, hustlers or dreamers. And I just I keep going back to the arch archetypes because everyone can resonate with them, right? So if you are an avoider, the thing with avoiders is it's it's wild, right? Because they actually, it's not laziness. They actually care so much that it hurts. And then so to look at it then hurts. So then they just avoid. But then the avoidance perpetuates the feeling and they get stuck in this loop. So little things like for the avoiders is just little micro movements of opening the bank app, looking at the number, logging out and then noticing the thoughts and the feelings that happened in that moment. And the other thing with the avoiders is usually well actually this is all women usually when we start to feel mad, bad, sad, we go, oh, and we get ashamed of ourselves for feeling that way. So we push it down. We push it down. Don't want to deal with that right now. And I actually encourage women to sit with it. So if you open it up and you look at the number and you feel the feeling it's not about dwindling in it for three days, but it's also not about oh I don't have time for this. I'm just gonna push that feeling aside because I need to make dinner. It's actually just sitting it and going, what am I feeling right now? I'm disappointed. Why am I disappointed? Because I wish that number was higher. Why do I wish that number was higher? Because I should be paid more for what I do. Why do you think you should be paid for more what I do? Because I'm actually a really fucking talented person. So why aren't you being paid for what you do? Because I'm in the job that I doesn't line. So what do you need to do about that? Well I need to go and actually find a new job. And so how are you going to do that? And you can almost like if you go why why why why why you get to the point where you bring yourself back up again and just so many people don't take the time to kind of mini coach themselves through it. They just that's a shitty feeling I don't want to feel this right now. Stack stack stack stack stack and then we get to the end of the day we wonder why we're stressed we're on edge we're yelling at the kids even though they didn't do anything. We're like on the verge of tears. So we're just constantly whoop can't feel that whoop can't feel that whoop can't feel that we're stacking it all down. So you know practical tips and like go and get a budget spreadsheet I mean I love spreadsheets don't get me wrong like I froth on them. Like but practical things like that I think like so much awareness of just like where we at where we're feeling and let's get real why are we here right now like what is actually true for you now and then people love this world right so people love analyzing themselves criticizing themselves figuring out the block figure oh my God Stacy I worked it out it's because of my dad you know he said this and oh my God oh my God and this is what I want to do and I've decided I'm gonna get I'm gonna find a new job right people love the frequency of dreaming you know and you do I don't know if you get this in your I get it all the time like especially when I push people they they love it it's fun to analyze to do all that and then it's like okay what are you gonna do about it breaks. Oh no and this is called the frequency of pressure. So we go from the frequency of dreaming to the frequency of pressure. And I truly believe and you'd be able to vouch for this anything you desire doing this lap around Australia pressure. Starting a business pressure not stress big difference between stress and pressure quitting the job that you're not enjoying to go and find the job that you really want to be in pressure. Starting to focus on that side hustle to make it something real pressure. Actually having that tough conversation with your partner pressure and so many people don't want to step into the pressure and so how do we build up this resilience and this identity of a woman that can handle the pressure and that's where the identity work comes in and I think that's a whole big another conversation right that we don't really have time to cover on a podcast. But I think if people start to I think one of the biggest things if people just start to realize okay cool I'm in the dreaming frequency right now and it feels really cool. If I want to do something with that I have to step into some form of pressure and it's pressure on the body and it and so many people will be like oh I got it doesn't feel aligned like it's not a full body fuck yes and I throw all of that in the bin now I'm like if you actually neurologically understand the science of how neuroplasticity works and how we actually reprogram our mind and when our body goes through an experience that it's not used to of course it's not going to be a full body f yes it it's physically impossible and people go oh but I just I'm just not sure if it's aligned and it's like we're gonna we've got to tell the difference here between what's going on.
SPEAKER_00I'm actually hearing that so much at the moment oh it's it's not alignment. I'm like well it's actually you've never done it. No you've you've wired your brain to do things a certain way for the last 30 40 50 60 years of course it's gonna feel uncomfortable and it's doing those small little reps and a lot of my coaching is the small stuff like you said open the bank account and that's why I love like what you do and your coaching and we're gonna chat a little bit about your challenge coming up soon in a second because I know that it is those teeny weeny things that are going to add up to the full shift. And it's it's anything you do in your life you know so do you think so this must be like a global program that it is the big aha moments.
SPEAKER_01And did this come from the Bible right where it's like oh you know the head the clouds open and the what like there is this there is this I feel like there's this undercurrent that this big moment has to happen for change. And it doesn't matter who I speak to and you've just said it then it's macro moments. It is the daily habits. It is the stuff that people might think is a bit spiritual like reading your script every day, putting on a powerful song getting up early taking care of your appearance like the really really basic basic things and if habitually doing them every single day um yeah yet everyone's kind of looking for this like I'm feeling stuck okay so what are we doing about that feeling every single day on a 1% micro level basis for you to become unstuck. I don't want to do that. I just want the holy grail to appear in front of me Stacy, why won't you make it happen?
SPEAKER_00Yeah I honestly I I do think it's a a global thing and I I don't know it there's a lot of reasons that it could be and if we think about the gym, you know, you go to the gym you don't magically lift a hundred kilos when you do a squat like it's those incremental reps that get you to lifting that weight and though why do we you know when it comes to personal development or money or our appearance it's like we are searching for the big the big thing and want to instantly it's like it things aren't happening instantly and it it's not sexy to have a business where you're selling do the reps and that though that is what it takes. I definitely agree with you on that one. And there was something that you just mentioned about the the self-coaching like I feel like that is such a powerful piece for women to take away in not just with money, with everything. It's like for some reason it's it's like they hit the top of the iceberg and they're like oh I'm feeling this and then I'm avoiding this by however if we can just go a few levels deeper we can actually go well what's actually really happening rather than staying in the overthinking or overwhelm or anxiety whatever we're feeling it's like let's get actually down a little bit lower and you can learn so much about yourself in across all areas. So thank you for sharing that because I feel like that's a massive piece to take away. Now I would love for you to share I know you've got a seven day challenge coming up and when this is live it will be just a week and a bit away. So I'd love for you to share about your seven day challenge and who it's for and what women can expect um because I feel like this is something that so many women will benefit from.
SPEAKER_01Yeah amazing so the challenge was actually created from me being in my own rut. Yeah it it was birthed from that where I was like kind of hit a income ceiling was having less than ideal thoughts just just feeling about everything not happy with where I was at not happy you know and then of course being the type of person I am I'm like I'm gonna set myself a challenge where every single day for seven days I'm going to like almost take my big course so I've got like a big six month program I'm gonna take that concept and take a little and do a micro challenge and every single day there's gonna be a new thing that I look at. So like generational beliefs, you know money management, what what am I doing with the actions? And I'm gonna take this little thing I'm gonna put myself through a challenge. Yeah let's do it Katie because typical me always like to put myself in a challenge you know what I mean? And I was like do you know what I'm gonna share this. I'm I'm just this is how this challenge started. I was like I'm just gonna put this up I was gonna tell people I'm gonna focus on my money seven days straight seven days every single morning I'm gonna give myself a task and I'm gonna be committed to my relationship with money for seven days. Do you want to join me? No Stacy you would get this right no tech, no emails no automation, just a stripe link. And the first time I ran it I think it was like I had about 20 women join and that was huge. Like that was huge. Like I was I just started Mrs. Martin and I was like I'm just getting myself out of it. And do you know what else though? It gave me this massive validation that you don't need to have it figured all out. Yeah because here I was sharing that I'm in a rut now with my money hey I'm a money mentor I'm gonna go through this challenge. Do you want to join me? And people were like hell yeah so if you're a woman listening to this now thinking that you need to be more qualified another certificate or you need to have your shit together people actually relate to you more when you're in it with them. That's just a little side step. And um anyway I did this challenge it was amazing like seven days it's like a little task in the morning and it builds gradually so it starts with that what do you want? Like what are your beliefs and having the conversations with your parents and every single day there's an activity. And obviously since the first time I've done it it's developed from there and I've got like a quiz and I do like the Wheel of Wealth and we talk about wealth buckets and we talk about investing and managing money and you know and by the end of it women have had this like really like seven day challenge of like changing the way they think changing the way they feel and they change a behavior. We've had women who have gone okay I haven't gone on holidays in five years I'm doing it I'm booking the holiday we have unexpected money showing up we have double tax shows like just it's wild what happens in these challenges. And so the first time I ever run it was just like me just being like this is what we're doing and now it's now I think I'm up to my this will be my fifth one that I'm running. I love them absolutely love them. And so it's a really really great environment for for women to come and join and it's that like I'm what you just said, I'm not selling the sexy manifest unexpected money. It ain't that ain't my vibe. It is truly it is truly just this a seven day to go right I'm gonna focus on my money I'm gonna focus on what I'm thinking what I'm feeling and the behaviors that I'm doing so we can start to rewire that story into something that is more towards what you actually want. So yeah that's what the seven day challenge is and it's ridiculous. It's seven dollars so it's seven dollars seven day challenge and it kicks off on the 15th.
SPEAKER_00Love that and is the challenge for women who you know as you said at the start you got women on Centerlink, you know, maybe they're stay at home arms and you've got women with multi-six figure businesses is it for everyone the challenge? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah yeah it really is and so rather than a demographic and an age and an income it's just like if you resonate with anything I say, it's for you. I feel like people like my vibe because I am direct I will call you out on your BS and I will also love you and hold you and support you. And you know I think that where my real my real skill is is people can tell me a story and I can cut through the story and see exactly where the problem is. And so during during the challenge that a lot of a lot of things come up for women emotionally. So there's a lot of emotional healing and I don't really talk about that too much on the front end because I don't want people to be scared to be scared of it. It just happens it just happens naturally. There's a lot of emotion around money and I feel like women don't have a safe space to talk about it. And that's why you know a lot of I've had a fair few men reach out to me about my course, about the money method, you know, about my challenges and like why can't men join and I've chosen with my Mrs. Martin brand to support women because I truly believe when it comes to that financial literacy that education I don't know there's just this undercurrent of we're not smart enough or you know to understand it all I want to I want women to feel empowered in that place. And there's so much shame, guilt and grief connected to men, whether it be a toxic ex-husband, a sibling a dad, an uncle like I've just noticed this trend and you know this is a bit deep for a podcast, but I've just noticed this trend of and if you're hearing this and you're like oh my God this is relevant for me this trend of women and men and money. And so sometimes women get into this container and they're like holy shit this is the first time I've ever actually been seen and you have the same thing that I go and you and there's this random woman on the other side of the world who is experiencing the same thing that I'm going through like oh my God I thought I was alone in this. And so it's really really really beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I love that and you know I know my last probably five ish clients have actually been navigating divorce and relationship changes and you know they they feel like they don't have that safe place to actually go and to learn and you know some of them it has unfortunately been domestic violence and has been a controlling element. And so I I can imagine that depending on what their story is or what they've been navigating the why the emotion comes up. However, you know by doing those things over those seven days and you know being able to it's I feel like it'll be almost a good circuit breaker as well to go hang on, no and I've got the support I've got other women I'm being seen and held and that'll be a great experience.
SPEAKER_01So yeah sounds amazing I even have women I have women do it over and over again which is weird to me but I love it because they come in and they're like oh my God look at how much I've grown from the last time I did it. And so and like you said it's a good thing it's like you know when we go like okay like I'm gonna get on top of my health I'm gonna stop with the gluten stop with the glare the dairy and we have this like we do these little health kicks and we're like okay I'm gonna focus on this for a section in my life. But it's the same with money. Like and I do it as well. I do the challenge as well and I go through my own breakthroughs as I'm doing it and I'm sharing sometimes I'm on a live and I'm bawling my eyes out and you know I'm just so real and I'm not pretending that I know everything like I'm just I'm in it with you. But everyone's in it at their own level and so yeah it's really cool.
SPEAKER_00I love that thank you. Well thank you so much for jumping onto the podcast with me today. I've really enjoyed our chat and if you're listening I highly recommend jumping into Katie's challenge starts on the 15th of July yes and where can people find you though Katie because I'll drop the links in the show notes where would you like them to reach out I'd say Insta's the easiest one like I'm on Facebook and Instagram um Mrs.
SPEAKER_01Martin the links below but yeah and I think the biggest thing for me is yes I've got a challenge yes I've got quizzes and all that sort of stuff. My favorite thing in the whole wide world is when if you heard something on this podcast today and it just just reframed or shifted something even 1%, my favorite thing is hearing about that.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01And that thinking about growing up in school and at work, my favorite thing was always when people would come back to me and go, you know how you told me about da da da da da da I got a message the other day actually I got a message the other day I've just started a buffer and I put my first thousand dollars in it thanks to you. And I'm like yes like you go it like just it's my favorite thing in the world because I think and you might relate to this too doing what what we do it's so hard to realize how far the impact goes. Yeah and this person is not on my radar not in any of my programs not in anything that I do and then all of a sudden I just get a message out of the blue saying I started this because of you. And it's like like do you get that feeling as well? It's like my favorite feeling because you know the impact of I was talking to my sister about you and then you know she started asking about this and then we started doing this and now we've done this together.
SPEAKER_00And I'm like yeah yeah I love I love that feeling so much because it's you know we only see what we can see what all the people we're working with and whatnot. And sometimes I kind of feel like oh is this reaching the women that it needs to reach and those random messages literally light me up so much. And and I think that's what I love so much about you as well is yes the practical stuff yes you call people forth with love and and all of that is actually you're genuine in the excitement for people. You know and for seeing them win. And I love that you you know don't just idolize that oh you need to have a million dollars before you're wealthy and before you can invest and do all these things. So please if you did to hear something in the podcast today reach out to Katie or to myself or both because this is these are the conversations that we both want to be having more of is it it is at the core of it is empowering women to work through and navigate whatever their stories are and whether that's money, life, career, whatever, I value so much your time that you've given us today because this is a conversation that needs to happen more often. And I know as I said I'm gonna go away and speak with my parents about it because money isn't this dirty subject you know that we we can't speak about it's and it changes with us though. We need to be the ones to shift it if you're listening to this. Because otherwise nothing changes.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So thank you so much Katie and please reach out to I'll drop Katie's Instagram into the show and she'd love to hear from you and join her seven day challenge starting very soon and I will chat to you on the next episode. Thanks for having me.
