Heart Disease is the world’s leading cause of death.  According to the American Heart Association, one out of every four deaths in the United States is a result of cardiovascular disease.  Every 37 seconds someone dies from heart disease.  By 2035 the American Heart Association projects that more than 130 million adults will have some type of heart disease.

Many of these conditions can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet.  Exercise such as aerobics, strength training and flexibility training are excellent for heart health.  A healthy diet consisting of leafy greens vegetables, sweet potatoes, avocados, black beans, omega 3’s, flaxseed, blueberries, walnuts and garlic helps to keep your heart healthy.

Managing your blood pressure making sure that you pay attention to your sodium content and that you are not deficient in potassium, calcium and magnesium.  Keep your cholesterol in a healthy range LDL less than 100mg/dl.  HDL 60 mg/dl or higher.

A large waist line increases your risk of disease so maintaining a healthy weight will  decrease your risk for heart disease.
