What happens when cutting-edge artificial intelligence meets humanistic healthcare? Aurora Martinez of Keralty unveils a revolutionary approach that's redefining what's possible in global health systems. Unlike conventional healthcare AI applications that focus primarily on efficiency and diagnostics, Keralty's innovative "CHI" ecosystem puts human well-being at the center of technological advancement.

Martinez introduces us to Keralty (operating as Sanitas in the US), a healthcare organization spanning ten countries that has built what she calls a "living lab" – an extraordinarily diverse ecosystem encompassing insurance companies, hospitals, clinics, medical centers, and even a university. This diversity serves as both the foundation and catalyst for their AI innovations. With 50 years of accumulated wisdom, they're transforming knowledge into actionable healthcare solutions that address not just physical health, but loneliness, mental health challenges, and community connection.

What truly distinguishes their approach is the philosophy Martinez eloquently summarizes as "intelligence with a soul." This isn't about replacing healthcare professionals with algorithms, but rather empowering doctors and nurses with AI tools that enhance their ability to deliver personalized, preventative care. The focus remains steadfastly on human connections while using technology to make better, more informed decisions. By combining their extensive living lab with a holistic healthcare model centered on prevention and risk management, Keralty is positioning themselves as agents of change in an industry ripe for transformation.

Speaker 2:

Today, we're exploring how artificial intelligence is being used not just to make healthcare smarter, but more human. With us today is Aurora Martinez, who's leading one of the most exciting transformations in global health. Aurora, great to have you here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, thank you for having me, it's a pleasure, so tell us about your company. Yeah, so my company is Keralty. Here in the US, we operate also under the name of Sanitas and we are a global healthcare company. We operate in about 10 different countries that range, obviously, from the US to Colombia, mexico and a number of other countries, and we are well known worldwide because of our unique health care model that focus on prevention, on risk management and on caring for people.

Speaker 2:

So let's dive in. Tell us about KAI or K-A-I.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, kai as we like to say it. Well, kai started with the self-reflection internally that we had and we saw how rapidly artificial intelligence was developing and we thought to ourselves what can we do to apply artificial intelligence not only internally, but to become agents of change in healthcare? We do believe there is a need for change. We believe we are set in a because of our own makeup. We believe we can be leaders in that change and in that transformation, or revolution as we like to call it. And that's how CHI was started. We like to think of it as an integrated and holistic ecosystem.

Speaker 2:

And you talk a lot about purpose in your work. How does that reflect itself in your day-to-day?

Speaker 1:

That purpose is based on the fact that for us, it's not only about health. For us it's about well-being and we want to make sure that people live well or healthy lives, and we want to tackle those problems that I was talking about before, like loneliness. We want to tackle problems like mental health and we want to reach well-being. It's just not about being healthy, but being happy and reaching a good state of life that focuses on well-being and also the community. So those are like four major problems that we want to tackle and we feel we are A in a position of leadership to do it because of our living lab and. B we believe we have the right mindset to go for it and we feel strong that artificial intelligence will allow us to power through and to get it done. And we also want to put artificial intelligence in the hands of our professionals, especially our doctors, our nurses.

Speaker 2:

Living lab? You really don't hear that term much in health care, so tell us a little more about the living lab.

Speaker 1:

The living lab for us is the essence of who we are. I believe it's the essence of diversity. We are a very diverse company at all levels. We have insurance companies, we have hospitals, we have clinics, we have medical centers, we have a university. We are a living lab. So it really goes to the heart of who we are and that's why I refer to it as the essence of diversity. But we are also a product. Product, and we are a product because we have accumulated 50 years of knowledge and wisdom that we want to transfer into actionable healthcare solutions. We are also a system in that we connect all of those different stakeholders that I mentioned that we are known for, and we are also a platform for open innovation. We are well known for our innovative way of approaching healthcare, from that holistic, human center healthcare model that sets us apart from other healthcare entities to the way that we believe we need to contribute to healthcare.

Speaker 2:

Interesting, and how does CHI differ from other AI use cases today in healthcare?

Speaker 1:

I think what sets us apart are two things. One is our Living Lab, the CareLty Living Lab that I mentioned, and the other one is our unique holistic and integrated healthcare model that focuses on prevention. We have the tools, we have the people. We have the tools, we have the people, we have the will, we have the drive and we have the support of everyone within the organization to move this forward.

Speaker 2:

And if you had to describe CHI in just a few words, how would you do it?

Speaker 1:

I would describe CHI as intelligence with a soul, you know throughout. I hope that the message came through that it is about bringing or using AI to make better decisions, but also more human decisions.

Speaker 2:

Well, aurora. Thank you Incredibly eye-opening and so hopeful.

Speaker 1:

Thank you. Thank you, yeah, we are all for it hopeful, thank you.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, yeah, we are all for it, and if you'd like to learn more, check out their website, keraltycom. That's K-E-R-A-L-T-Ycom, or log on to techimpacttv.
