Dr. Meisha Porter

Dr. Meisha Porter is a groundbreaking educator and leader, and the former Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, where she became the first Black woman to hold the role. 


Raised in Queens, New York, she began her career as a youth organizer in the Bronx and spent 18 years at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.


Dr. Porter later served as Superintendent of District 11 and Bronx Executive Superintendent, overseeing hundreds of schools and thousands of students. Dr. Porter holds a degree in English from Hunter College and a master’s in Administration and Supervision from Mercy University. She has been recognized nationally for her leadership and commitment to educational equity.
