What if the key to achieving your most ambitious goals lies in working backward? Join me as I share my personal journey of writing a book on trauma and PTSD—starting from the last chapter. In this episode of Updated AF Collective, we explore the transformative strategy of reverse engineering our dreams as we edge toward the end of 2024. Listen as I open up about my own setbacks and the clarity that came when I embraced this unconventional approach. We touch on the ever-evolving nature of vision boards and how regularly updating them can fuel both motivation and focus. Plus, get strategic insights from past guest Lisa Kelly on how these techniques can also apply to relationships.
Extreme ownership plays a pivotal role in this journey, and I challenge you to take full responsibility for your unmet goals. Drawing from my military background, I introduce the powerful practice of writing an after-action report to dissect both triumphs and failures. This episode promises actionable insights: from setting timelines for goals like becoming a paid public speaker to planning a virtual class in 2025 aimed at crafting a community of like-minded achievers. We focus on honest self-reflection and strategic planning, and I invite you to be part of this supportive network as we collectively transform aspirations into reality.

Hey guys, welcome back to Updated AF Collective, the podcast. I am your host, megan Wirth. Today's episode is going to be solely based on. We are literally what, like two months away from 2025. We're in quarter four. We're like knees deep in quarter four and I want to talk about what goals did we achieve and what goals did we not achieve, and why and how to fix that. I'm going to go about my vision board and my goals and my planning and everything so differently for 2025 that I have a feeling that reverse engineering all of my plans is going to actually work out a hell of a lot better, and that's the conversation I want to have with you guys today.
Speaker 1:I don't know if anybody else listening has ever tried to reverse engineer things and work backwards. What I mean by reverse engineering is like the saying that we had in the Marine Corps, even in law enforcement too, when we plan something, when we plan attack, we plan anything like a field operation, a training we always write what we want the outcome to be first and then reverse engineer it, work backwards, and I was thinking about that. I was actually like thinking about it getting dressed one morning about, okay, what didn't get done. I'll tell you one thing that was very important to me that didn't get done, and it's not that it you know, like I didn't, I didn't just gaff it off, it's a very difficult task was writing my freaking book. It didn't get done. I'm almost done, and I keep saying it's almost done because I know like I'm right at the finish line. But I think, with everything else going on in my life and I'm not using that as an excuse it kind of got put in the back burner. In 2025, it's going to be at the front. It's going to be at the front of the line.
Speaker 1:Priority number one is to get the book done. And how I'm going to make sure that happens is I think I've been jumping around in the book, jumping around to different chapters, because writing on trauma and PTSD it's really difficult and as I'm writing a chapter or a story, it triggers another memory about something else that happened, whether it's related or if it was not related, and all of a sudden I'm remembering something that I suppressed. It's all coming up. So I've been jumping around to different chapters. I'll write chapter two and then I'll jump to chapter 12, because obviously I'm trying to write it as best as I can, in chronological order. So that's why I'm jumping around chapters One that is scatterbrained and that's why I'm jumping around chapters One that is scatterbrained.
Speaker 1:And I quickly realized I cannot do that. If I have a thought or an idea, I've been using notes now on my phone, so I'll write in notes. I have all the chapter numbers laid out and then I'll write, for example, number 14, which would represent chapter 14. This is what we need to focus on, this is what we need to write about. But what I am going to do I'm going to not throw away my entire book or anything or start over, but what I want to do is I'm going to reverse engineer it. I'm going to write the last chapter first. So today, when I sit down to knock out another chapter, I'm going to write the last chapter. The end of the book is going to be written in its entirety, because I need to know where I'm going.
Speaker 1:Me being this scatterbrained and jumping all over the damn book is not doing me any good. It's hurting me and it's hurting my direction. We don't plug in an address to a GPS and then go somewhere else. We follow the directions to get to where we want to be and I feel like the last chapter of my book symbolizes that address level, exactly where I need to go, and that is exactly what I'm going to be doing with everything on my vision board when I redo my vision board. I have not updated that damn thing in six months. I still have a house on there. I still have a couple other things that need to come down. Your vision board should be a working document throughout the year. It's not one of those things where you make a vision board and then it just stays the same for 12 months. It should be a working document. You should be on Canva if that's where you create yours, that's where I create mine and editing out those photos and adding new ones so you can keep it going, keep the momentum going right. When I sit down in January to redo this vision board, what I want to do is I want to try to figure out okay, what is the end result for this? What is the end result for this?
Speaker 1:Becoming a public speaker right, I've already have some conferences lined up in the pipeline, but they're not paid, right, we all start off pretty much as free, paid speakers, unless you're a celebrity or a well-known person, but I mean for the rest of us, average people, in order to get paid, we need to put ourselves out there. People need to hear what we're about. People need to know you exist. So I have a couple of those lined up. But how do I become a paid public speaker? I'm going to reverse engineer that. I'm going to start. What is the end result? I usually will not put a timeline on things, but I feel like for this, it's going to be just an approximate timeline. I'm going to give a timeline on things, but I feel like for this, it's going to be just an approximate timeline. I'm going to give myself, for example, 12 months to try to figure out how to become a public speaker a paid one, as well as an author and everything else on my vision board. I'm going to reverse engineer it.
Speaker 1:A relationship If that's something that I tried to take seriously in 2025, how can I reverse engineer that? I have a friend that made a comment. Actually, you guys heard her say it on the podcast Lisa Kelly. Maybe that was one of those sidebar conversations. I can't remember if it's actually on the episode, but she was like go to the places that you enjoy being at, so like the gym or the park or out on a run. I mean, I don't go out to bars or anything, but there's a couple of little like places here in town that are like really social a lot of live music in Texas, and I love going out and listening to live music and she was like that's where you need to find your person, is like doing something that you also like to do, having those similar interests, I guess, and so maybe, if that is something that I decided to take very seriously in 2025, I don't know We'll see, um, reverse engineer it. Tell myself like I'm going to meet my person or I or you know, write it as if it already happened, right, cause law of attraction. Uh, we're going to write I met my person doing something you know I love to do. We were, we met on a run, we met at a race, um, whatever, cause you know, we go to the Spartan races and stuff like that too, cause my daughter really loves going on those runs with me Something like that again, as if it already happened. That's how we're going to write it.
Speaker 1:I want you, when you sit down to do your goals and your vision boards, to reverse engineer every single one of those photos on your vision board Because, once again, when we sit down for quarter four to try to figure out, okay, what was done and what wasn't done, we need, you know, we make excuses. I can say that I'm a busy single mom, so the book didn't get done. I can say that, you know, I decided I wanted to go the publishing route and no publisher has offered me anything, so I just feel unmotivated to continue to write. I can. Which little things have crossed my mind like that, don't get me wrong. But at the end of the day, it is 110% my fault. The book didn't get done. It's not my daughter's fault. It's not my busy life, any of that. It is 100% my fault.
Speaker 1:If anything on your vision board did not get done, we need to take extreme ownership and realize this is our fault. That's step number one. Okay, great, now that we take responsibility for that, how are we going to make it a reality in 2025? I want you to try to reverse engineer that. Get out your journal. Yes, I'm giving you some homework. Get out your journal and I want you to write it all down.
Speaker 1:I plan on doing the same thing and if you guys want to share, I will DM you, you can DM me and we can compare notes. Okay, I'm all for it. I'm all for all of us climbing this fucking ladder together, because that's what we're doing. I mean, success is not linear, it's vertical. And we are going up, you guys, and it's really, really difficult and if, if you're going up with me, I want to take you too. So I love a good, just female who who also just wants to succeed and thrive and achieve all of their goals. We shouldn't have to do this alone. Maybe next year I will put on some live virtual Zoom class, but this year I just don't feel ready to do that. But I want to try this reverse engineering. But also, what I'm going to plan on doing is doing an after action report Again, trying to think of things that really did work in the Marine Corps and apply it to everyday life here, with my business, with my life, everything.
Speaker 1:And after action report is something that we would have to write after every single operation, whether it was like some, uh, a house we, you know, pulled pounds of drugs out of in law enforcement, or a field operation that went wrong or went right or whatever. Everything requires an after action report. It's a debrief and again something I want to do All of the things on my vision board and all of the goals that I had written for myself, I want to talk about if they did get accomplished. What was it? That one thing, what was the one thing that I did that accomplished that thing? And I want to write about it. If it didn't get accomplished, I'm going to write about why it didn't get accomplished, again, taking that extreme ownership of what did I do that this thing did not get accomplished.
Speaker 1:I don't think we should go into the victimhood or the blame game when it comes to talking about why something didn't happen. In the military. It's always the leader. It's always the leader's fault. If something goes horribly wrong, it's the leader. Even if the leader had a troop or a young Marine that fucked up the whole thing, it still falls back on the leader because obviously that person, that troop, that young Marine didn't clearly understand the instructions. It always falls back on the leader.
Speaker 1:So when you write these out, make sure that you're being 110% honest with yourself. What is it? It wasn't because the baby wasn't sleeping. It wasn't because of this, it wasn't because of that, it was because you didn't make time for it or whatever that thing was. Be honest with yourself. If we want to make this thing happen next year, we need to take ownership of our goals and we need to come to realize, at the end of the day, we're the common denominator, plain and simple. Okay, yes, do things happen out of our control? 110%. But you need to find a way to make it work or shut that goal down. You know, there are some things in our life that are beyond our control. Like we lose somebody, we have a loss, people pass away, people lose their jobs, stuff like that. Put a pin in it and write about it. Write about how you know what. I'm going to pick this up on January 1st 2025. I just need to put a pin in it, but make sure that you write that down because that is part of your after action report. Make sure that you write that down because that is part of your after action report.
Speaker 1:I honestly feel like this time next year maybe right after Thanksgiving I do my. One of my goals is to host a virtual class. It's just that it's literally going to be probably free, and what I want to do is I want to have all the girls on, all my listeners, all the followers on Instagram. I want to have everybody on the same Zoom call and I want to debrief 2025. I want after action reports to be read. I want to create new goals. I want to reverse engineer with everybody. I honestly feel like we can make this happen in 2025, but try it out. And then this time next year, I want you to meet me back here where we'll have a zoom call and we're going to go from there.
Speaker 1:Okay, guys, and this leads me into the next topic I'm not getting paid to talk about this, but I did talk to my girlfriend, stephanie Keith, about just telling all of my listeners about her class. I'm pretty sure that you guys already listened to Stephanie Keith's podcast, so you probably already know about this. He's putting on a six-month mastermind and we talked about it for a while and I told her I was like I love the idea. I love the idea behind it because it's geared toward goals of 2025. If you know me, yes, here on the podcast we touch on law of attraction and all that fun stuff too, but if you guys really want to deep dive into the law of attraction and manifestation, stephanie Keith has a six month mastermind and right now there's a wait list going on. I honestly feel like you guys need to go look into this. If you do need that little push, that one-on-one guidance from her, she has this new class called the quantum catalyst and it's like I said, it's six months and right now she has a wait list. Just go follow her on Instagram If you're not already I don't, yeah, I'm pretty sure you are but I also have the link and the number to get on the wait list.
Speaker 1:I don't know when this whole thing is going live, but when I tell you I've seen what she's offering. She asked me just to check out the site. One, I think it's absolutely beautiful. Two, I think it's genius. The thing is with Stephanie. Her and I talk probably a couple of times a week and the thing is with her.
Speaker 1:There's something very magical about this freaking person, and that's what I love about her. She tell me oh my gosh, like this is literally like a text message. Oh my gosh, I know you'll appreciate this, but I just manifested ABC and it was like out of nowhere, out of nothing. I honestly feel like there's something so magical about this girl or she's just mastered the law of attraction, she's mastered manifestation, she knows all the universal laws and how to apply them. Because when I tell you she texts me every single time something shit like, bat shit, crazy happens, I am just like in awe of that, because that's what I aim to try to be is just like that right Like she. She's oh my gosh, she's not normal, she's not human. But what I do love about her and her classes and her mastermind is it's really, it's good information and it's information that you can use.
Speaker 1:So if you're interested in quantum catalyst, like I said, I'm going to have everything in the show notes and just sign up to be on our wait list. Again, I am not getting paid to put this message out. I just really do believe in her masterminds and courses. So if you're looking for a really good one to accelerate 2025 for you, go DM her. She's super sweet. She's going to message you back. Ask all the questions. She. I'm sure she would love to answer any and all questions because, again, like when you're investing in something that's a little pricey, you want all the facts. Stephanie is going to give you all the facts.
Speaker 1:I do believe in what she is doing and I do believe in her results. Like I said, if you guys knew her personally, you would just see what kind of woman this girl is Like. She's truly magical, she's very intelligent. But, like I said, you probably already follow her, so it doesn't even matter. But go sign up to be on her wait list and, yeah, I will also see you there too. I think I'm going to be a guest speaker. So, like I said, I will see you there too and, yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed this episode and I hope you got something out of it. If you're getting anything out of it, feel free to leave a review, throw some stars my way, subscribe and come follow me on Instagram.
