Hey guys, welcome back to Updated AF Collective, the podcast. I am your host, megan Wirth. Sorry for the little bit of a break. I had to take a break from podcasting because in my personal opinion, you know, the holidays can be really stressful and it was, with the traveling and being back home and everything. It was just hard to be in a creative space, if that makes sense. The holidays can be super stressful for people and it's one of those times where I feel like I'm in survival mode and now that I'm back home and back into my routine my daughter's back at school I feel like I can jump back into it. I mean, who else can freaking relate right? Jump back into it. I mean, who else can freaking relate right?
Speaker 1:So today's episode topic is on something that I had to kind of learn the hard way and there's two words that I have to remind myself not to say whether it's like out loud or in my head because these two words are like really potent and actually can like block abundance and wealth and networking and connections and everything. These two words that I was addicted to saying and again, like I said, like I'm going to share some examples and some stories, but the two words are I know. I know how many times have you been trying to explain something to somebody or connect them with some somebody, or, you know, educate somebody on a specific topic and somebody's like oh, I already know, I already know, I already heard it, right. And when you start to say things like that, when you are afraid to kind of like you put up that I don't know if afraid is like the right word, but when you put up that wall of I know, you are completely blocking anything that is trying to get to you.
Speaker 1:For example, I recently went to this like real estate conference right before the holidays, right before right before Christmas, and the guy was good, but I get there and I spent like a hundred dollars for this ticket and again, like I'm one of those people that I'm like, okay, like I'm all for a motivational speaker, right, don't? I get there and literally maybe two minutes into the conversation or not the conversation, I was there listening he was talking. So two minutes into this conference, this very well-known real estate, like influencer coach, like everything he starts to talk about, like these things that I've heard before, and I'm like, wait a minute, like the stuff that he's saying he was ripping off from other people, like Zig Ziggler. I heard some things from Les Brown, tony Robbins, mel Robbins, and I get it Like. I feel like there's no new thought, like people are just ripping off other motivational speakers, you know, keynote speeches and talks, and I mean it's all over the internet, right, people can just take that content and then kind of put their little spin on it and then brand it as their own. And that's exactly what this guy did. When I tell you, I was like, oh, that's from Les Brown, okay, that's from Tony Robbins, that's Mel Robbins.
Speaker 1:Everything that he was saying was ripped off right by somebody incredible and great, and he didn't, you know, he wasn't really sharing who he got the information from, but I mean, it was crazy, I don't know. I don't know how to explain it, but what? I immediately shut myself off and I'm like I'm irritated, not because he was like ripping off you know some really great material from like really great people. I was like, dude, I spent $100 to be here and I've read all the things that you're saying. I've heard all the things that you're saying. I've heard all the things that you're saying. I can tell you exactly what book you took that from, and everybody around me is going wild. All of these other high-producing real estate agents were jumping to their feet, they were clapping and they were cheering as if it was the most profound thing they've ever heard. And I'm like you guys didn't read that book, like that's exactly where he got it. Or you guys didn't hear Les Brown say this on a podcast somewhere, like you know, it's just, it was. It was weird, it was really weird and I'm just like okay, so I was.
Speaker 1:I was irritated just because I was like I took an entire day to be here because the conference was literally I think it was like four or five hours, I don't remember. I was mad. I was like I just kind of want to leave. The entire time I was like I wonder if I could just sneak out the back Again. I was like I heard all this. I could be doing something different, but I chose to be there and then I calmed myself down.
Speaker 1:I was like look, okay, I can sit here and pretend that I know everything that this it's coming out of this guy's mouth. I can sit and pretend that I know right, because that's what I was telling myself in my head. I was like I already know all this. I already, and I was shutting myself down from the possibility of one, relearning something or, as a reminder or two, hearing something that I yeah, I already heard before come from somebody amazing and great. But you know, maybe I have to open myself up to the possibility that he can say something the same exact way as, for example, tony Robbins said, and maybe it'll click for me this time around because he'll say it a little bit different, he'll package a sentence or something very profound or great in a little different way to where it clicks for me. And when I did that, when I calmed myself down and I, you know, got out of my own head and I stopped upsetting myself, putting myself in a freaking bad mood, when I stopped that shit, it really things did click for me. You know, I did. I heard a couple of things where I'm like, okay, I never thought of it this way because, as he was saying things that he had ripped off from other people, I heard it in a different way and it clicked for me a little bit differently.
Speaker 1:I tell myself like, okay, like every single day, because I live intentionally right, I tell myself every day I expect to be in the places that you, god, or the universe needs me to be in order to keep pushing the needle forward and going in the direction that I me to be. In order to keep pushing the needle forward and going in the direction that I need to be going in to, you know, create my dream life, to create abundance, to create wealth, I need to be put in those rooms. And so I told myself, I was like, look, there's a reason why I'm here. There has to be a reason why I'm here Because, again, like, I'm there, right, is it to network? Was it to meet other people? I don't know. I did network. I ended up talking to some other girls. They're getting their numbers and, you know, making arrangements to have coffee and sit down with them and just kind of talk, talk to them, get to know them, pick their brain, and these are like really, really successful entrepreneurs, especially in the real estate space. So, you know, maybe that's the reason. I don't know, maybe it was just as like, maybe I just need to be put in there as like a friendly reminder when this guy was just going off on all of this ripped off material. So I I have to check myself and I think a lot of people do as well.
Speaker 1:When we start running around and telling people that you yeah, I know, I know this already You're kind of showing that you are afraid of hearing things in a different way, that maybe you're kind of afraid of becoming a beginner again and hear me out on that. So when we are saying I know and we're also intentionally creating something in our life whether it be your career or something big that's going on in your life and we're asking God and the universe to kind of put people in our path that is going to help lay another brick or push the needle forward in the right direction, that we need to be going, and we are presented with somebody in front of us that's trying to share some knowledge or their expertise, and when we shut them down we don't get to hear the message. And what if the universe put somebody right in front of you to tell you something that, whether you've heard it or not in the past, tell you in a way that is actually going to click, or you're going to better understand it, or you're going to walk away with a new idea or even a new connection with somebody? Another example of saying I know already is thinking that you already know what you need to do in order to get that thing that you're going after, and a lot of people are afraid to be a beginner. I think the Marine Corps, for me personally, beat that shit out of me real quick, because we start over A lot of people in the military.
Speaker 1:We come to boot camp at all different ages, so some of us have already had careers, some of us already or fresh out of high school, or some of us even went to college and got a degree, but we decided to go enlisted. There's a whole variety of people in the military. It's a whole variety. Some people even own their own businesses. I knew a Navy SEAL who was actually a business owner. He joined the Navy. I think he was like 24, 25. Dude, this guy was so rich he became an enlisted Navy SEAL. This was back when Afghanistan was popping off I think Iraq was calming down and I met him because we had friends in common. And this guy no kidding, he became a beginner, obviously like starting over, even though he still continued to own his business and he had people working for him and all that fun stuff. While he was deployed. He had a yacht in San Diego and so, yeah, he was a fun, fun networking connection. So, but it doesn't matter when you are afraid to start over and be a beginner, like that Navy SEAL guy. Yeah, he always been on his heart to serve his country and I mean, why not be in one of the most elite? You know special operations unit Navy SEALs, right? So that's what he wanted to do and he was not afraid to go after that and start over.
Speaker 1:For me, like I've started over a couple times, so like I'm not saying I had a career or anything before I joined the Marine Corps, I did it. I literally worked in the armory at a police department in my local town in California and I was going to school full time and it was just. It just became a lot. So I really didn't have a lot of life experience, let's just put it that way. So starting over for me in the Marine Corps, starting to learn a completely different job and career, it was okay.
Speaker 1:But where it got like ugh, muddy the waters a little bit is going from the Marine Corps to law enforcement. Because in the police academy you're mixed with prior military college. You know people who just graduated college. So college kids, I say, college kids are like 23, 24. So to me that's like a child. I was 26, 27. I think I was when I was in the police academy, so like. And then you know, the people that have left their other careers to, you know, wanted, wanted to get in the law enforcement, always wanted to get in the law enforcement. So they came from other careers, whether it be business or you know whatever, it doesn't matter but we all had to start over and it was.
Speaker 1:It was very arrogant of me to go into the police academy and be like I already know how to run, I know how to drill, I know this, I know that I know everything Right. And it was hard because I'm just like I would look at people like climbing a wall or climbing a rope or you know, getting over the obstacle courses, and everybody like, of course they're going to suck, you're new. But I had to remind myself like this is their first time in a bootcamp environment. Who the fuck am I to like? Come in here and be arrogant. Whatever, I can't, I'm not going to shut them down. I got checked real quick, um, and then ended up going in the direction of like okay, well, I'm going to help. I'm going to help the girls. I'm going to help them with their hair, to make sure their hair squared away, and I did. I was in the bathroom early with the girls. Um, because, again, just like in bootcamp in the Marine Corps, your hair has to be perfect. Um, you know, no flyaways, lots of gel, perfect bun. The police academy was the same way, because they had lots of uniform inspections and I went in there and I would literally do the girl's hair in the morning squared away, perfect.
Speaker 1:So, again, like going into, when I left law enforcement, I had a huge reality check, going into a completely different career path in a space, the entrepreneurial space. I didn't know a fucking thing, nothing. And the people that I gravitated towards were the people that were very open to helping me. There are, I feel like real estate. There's like two different groups of people. There's the people that are extremely arrogant. They couldn't care less about anybody else below them. You know, like they're God's gift to you know, real estate. And then there's the ones that are top producers, high producers, content creators, influencers on social media, that are like, let's, let me help you. That's where we want to be right. We have all these people that are already self-conscious about being a beginner, coming from a different career path, especially in our 30s, that who are we to, kind of like, chop them down and make them feel less than or make them feel bad for wanting to do something different with their life? It's already nerve wracking being a beginner. Why make it worse for that person? So, like I said, I'm super grateful for the people that helped me and I'm turning around and I'm trying to help the other people in line too. Um, so just again, like if you ever find yourself too afraid to be a beginner or you know you're chopping people off and saying, oh, I already know this. Like thank you but no thank you, kind of thing, you're missing the message. And for all I know, I didn't know this real estate coach, this speaker guy. I didn't know him. For all I know I mean for all I knew you know he could have been new. He could have been new to the speaking space. I don't freaking know, I don't know. He did great at like presenting the content. Although it was ripped off, he did a really good job in packaging what he was saying and putting it out there, because I mean, the crowd was going wild beside the point, also another example of blocking abundance and blocking the direction that you're supposed to be going by saying I already know how to do it. It's so funny.
Speaker 1:I was reading Rich Dad, poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki I think his last name is oh my God, don't come for me if I said it wrong, but it's a great, freaking book. It's a great money book. It'll literally teach you how to run your finances. It'll literally teach you how to run your finances. And he talks about this young author who I can't remember if she approached him or he said something to her and sparked up a conversation. But she was telling Robert look, I have this book, for whatever reason, no publisher would pick it up. And what do I do? It's such a great book, it's got really good reviews from the beta readers. Whatever reason, like no publisher would pick it up. And you know, like what do I do? Like it's such a great book, it's got really good reviews from the beta readers and everybody says it's going to go really really well. You know, we just have to get it picked up with a publisher. Like what do I do?
Speaker 1:He was asking for advice from, she was asking for advice from Robert and Robert was like, okay, look like he looked through the book, was like, no, this is, this is good, this is really good content. But he's like have you ever thought about taking a writing class or something like that? Or like learning how, like a branding class? Like in um, he was like giving her all of this like really good advice, like look like you're kind of like a quote, unquote nobody, author, nobody knows who you are. Have you thought about taking some classes on how to brand yourself and brand the book and social media and these writing classes? She said she was so offended. Or Robert said she was so offended because she had these like master degrees in business, in finance and all this fun stuff. And she was like, absolutely not. I have this degree from so-and-so university and I've been, you know, I have all these awards for my writing and all this other stuff.
Speaker 1:But he, you know he made the comment like if you don't learn how to do this, like you're kind of blocking your goal. Like sometimes we do have to go back and say okay, like maybe I don't know everything, maybe I do need to go back and take a branding class, maybe I should go back and I'll learn something new, because you don't know what you don't know. And if it's not working? If it's not working, if this poor girl is going out and like marketing her book to literary agents and publishers and all this stuff, obviously something's missing. And you can get stuck on this hamster wheel of like I already know what I'm doing, I just have to keep doing the same thing over and over and over again. And if you have no results, einstein literally said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and having the same results. Sometimes you do have to go back, stop for a second, go second. Go back and say, okay, what am I missing? What class do I need to take?
Speaker 1:And for me, for my book again, like I was on the struggle bus, I mean my book literally landed me, by the way, in PTSD therapy. That was fun, but I mean it's good, I need it. Right, we all need therapy. But it landed me at PTSD therapy. Maybe I'm supposed to be there because the book literally brought it out. So I actually signed up for a writing class. It's online writing class, so I'm part of a writing club and I now have a mentor.
Speaker 1:And when I tell you, I was one of those girls like I already know what I'm doing. I have friends that wrote books. I you know, like I can just reach out to one of them and ask what I'm doing. But no, oh my God, like let me tell you, the course that I'm taking is so detailed that I ended up sharing it with another friend because I stopped what I was doing. I was like, holy shit, this is one of the best writing classes I have ever freaking taken, as if I've taken one. I've never taken one and I was like this is mind blowing. It was literally like, thing after thing after thing, I was learning and I sent it to one of my friends who's also writing a book and I was like, girl, I already paid for it. Here's my login account. Take this class, it's worth thousands of dollars. And yeah, no, since then I've been learning a lot. But again, if I was just so closed off to doing my own thing and not seeing any results again, like that is the definition of insanity.
Speaker 1:So where are you in your life blocking wealth, abundance by simply just saying you know, I already know how to do this? Where are you blocking yourself? You are supposed to be? Sometimes, most of the time you're supposed to be with people that the universe or God puts in your path. I wholeheartedly believe that, because when I left law enforcement and came to Texas, I was put in front of some incredible people who wanted to help me. And if I said, no, thank you, I'm going to, I'm going to do it myself, I wouldn't be here today. I would not have been able to buy my house, I would have not been able to take trips, take my daughter places Like I would. I would have probably had to go back to California and become a cop again.
Speaker 1:I was so open to becoming a beginner. I'm like teach me the basics. I'm an open, freaking jar. Just start throwing your freaking information and that was a really weird analogy, but that was the first thing I thought of is like a jar and just people putting all their fun little ideas in me. That's weird, but anyway, it doesn't matter. Make sure you're okay, it's 2025, right? We all have things that we are trying to do, trying to get to, whether it's you're trying to work out, lose weight, get a coach, whether you're trying to upscale your business, find a course, write a book, join a writing club or take a writing class.
Speaker 1:If you guys want to know which writing class I'm in I don't know if I'm allowed to like name drop her. She's a big time author. Um, I can I can send you the details of this writing class. Um it, like I said, it's absolutely amazing and she connects you. My mentor will connect you with like people you need to be in touch with while writing a book, like a literary lawyer, copyright people, editors, developmental editors. There's so much more. There's just so much. And it also teaches you the proper way to upload to KDP and to get your book out there and to make money. Also pricing and all that fun stuff. It's absolutely amazing.
Speaker 1:But also again, don't be like me. Don't go to a conference and roll your eyes, because half the shit that people say is like ripped off. It doesn't matter anyway. Literally. I feel like there's not a lot of people out there inventing new things. There's not a lot of new thought leaders. I feel like a lot of things just keep getting ripped off and put on podcasts and put on TikTok and all that fun stuff. Rip TikTok, but open yourself up to it, because I do believe that sometimes we need to hear something a different way, from a different person, to see it in a different light, for it to actually click in our heads.
Speaker 1:All right, guys, this is today's episode. Thank you so much for bearing with me and having the patience, and I will see you guys next Friday. Also, please, please, please, please, rate me five stars, send me a review and share on Instagram. If you're enjoying these episodes, if you're getting anything from these episodes, please share. I've been doing really good. I watch the analytics all the time and, again, if you're getting anything from this information or from the podcast, any information from the podcast it's going to help somebody else and when we help other people, good things come to us. Hashtag karma. All right, guys, I'll see you next Friday.
