Inuit Tattoo Traditions - Maya Sialuk

Mads - The Tattoo Sociologist Episode 18

Hello Inky Thinkers and welcome to the Eighteenth episode of the podcast

This time I am diving into the world of Inuit tattoo traditions. This is quite different yet not unrelated to what we usually tackle here on the podcast, regarding identity and culture in relation to tattoos. However, it is important at times to look outside of our own westernized views and ideas surrounding tattoos, and look at how ancient and indigenous peoples of the world, use and have used tattoos.

Of course I am not doing this alone, Maya Sialuk has graciously agreed to be mine and your guide on this journey into an ancient form of tattooing. Maya has been an active and integral part of reviving, uncovering and researching this indigenous form of tattooing as well as its connections to her people´s ancient religion and cultures.
But to know exactly how and what she found out, you will have to enjoy the full episode yourself.

As always, there is love, laughter, deep discussion, and something to learn!

Please enjoy and share with your friends, family, pets, and anyone else into tattoos!
