Introduction to Social Media Revival

Speaker 1

Welcome back to Practical Rebels, the podcast. How are we doing over there, Savannah?

Speaker 2

Doing good. Excited to be here.

Speaker 1

Good, good, good. We're going to get into a quick podcast with some tips and tricks to reinvigorate your social media account, because we are social media besties, isn't that right, savannah?

Speaker 2

Yep, that's us.

Speaker 1

You don't sound so sure.

Speaker 2

I'm pretty sure there's only two of us, so.

Speaker 1

All right, so let's go ahead and get into this bad boy. First off, you would like you should probably go back through all your platforms to update your cover photos, headers and etc.

Speaker 2

So why is that important? It's important to continuously update your account so that it looks new and fresh. This isn't something that you have to do like super often, but if you feel like you're stuck in a social rut, it's something super easy to get done, like replacing your cover images on your highlight reels on Instagram or updating your profile picture, whether that be on Instagram or the cover picture on Facebook. These are like super fast and easy ways to get a new feel, like a freshness.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it's kind of like you know your yard is overgrown, the plants are dying, people assume the rest of the house is a mess, but as soon as you cut it and go back in, everything's all good. So you just got to go back through your account and be like, hey, it's probably time to update. I would say probably a good man, a good timeline for that. It's probably what would you say Once every year.

Speaker 2

Yeah, probably. I feel like by that point you've um, yeah, I would say that's probably a good timeline. It doesn't have to be every single year, especially if, like your profile picture, is something that ties people to automatically recognize you.

Speaker 1

Like your logo.

Speaker 2

Yeah, like your logo or something. But if you do feel like you're kind of stuck in a little social rut, it's a nice way to just spruce up the page.

Speaker 1

I love it. I love it. I have some social accounts. I think I need to spruce up my personal. I love it. I love it. I have some social accounts. I think I need to spruce up my personal page. What about you?

Speaker 2

I probably do. It's probably that time.

Updating Platforms and Bio Sections

Speaker 1

Okay, all right. Next, we want to talk to you about updating your bio and about sections for accuracy and consistency. This is going to let people know who you are, how to get in touch with you and where you are, and so you definitely want to, especially as a small business, as your products and services are changing or maybe not changing that to just you know. Have a quick blurb, quick, powerful blurb to catch people's attention, so they know how to get in touch with you, where to get in touch with you and what you're doing. Savannah, what are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 2

Well, sometimes you forget that you have changed your address or, like you said, the type of services you offer. Days of the week you're open, things like that change and sometimes we forget because you set up the account five ever ago and just left it hoping it would run itself, so just going back and making sure that everything's up to date. So you're not like, oh, why am I not getting business? And it's like, well, your address changed, like two years ago.

Speaker 1

So people don't know where you're at.

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah, definitely, you definitely want to do that and make sure they're consistent on all your platforms your Facebook, your Instagram, your TikTok and that's why we're saying this, because sometimes your Facebook will be continuously updated, but your Instagram and your TikTok may not be. So go through, do a quick sweep. You know, once you get it right, once you type up the exact bio that you want, you can just copy that and then paste that into your other assets. Yep, so don't don't you know? We're doing this podcast episode because a lot of people get paralyzed by perfection. My social media bestie and my daughter had to remind me yesterday that sometimes done is better than perfect and as you move along and you keep going along, it'll get to where you feel like it's perfect. But go through, update your bios and make them consistent in every platform, and a good way to do that is to make it right in one, fall in love with that Copy and then go paste it.

Reviewing Your Grid and Archiving Old Posts

Speaker 2

Savannah. What's next Next up? We're going to talk about reviewing your grid and archiving old posts. This is important and it's super easy to do if you feel like maybe your feed is off. You're looking for a certain look on your page. I know you want to keep everything on there and you don't have to delete it. You can just archive it if it's not fitting the look and version that you're going for that you want people to see when they come on your page, because it's the first impression and to archiving old posts of maybe things you don't offer anymore Um, you know, certain products or services so that people don't get confused and think that that's something you still do.

Speaker 1

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I do have a question though, because you know I'm one for nostalgia. So you know, if you, if your page is 10 years old, you still got you know content on there, but you've got a whole new look and that's booming. Do you have to go archive that stuff?

Speaker 2

No, not at all. I mean I believe you know most of the time people aren't scrolling back that far. I hope not. But if they are, it'll just show how long you've been in business for and your growth. So it can be a pro. But again, if you're wanting to restart your whole page without deleting it, you can just archive old posts and start a new, fresh, aesthetic and feed on your page without deleting it. You can just archive new, archive old posts and start a new, fresh, aesthetic and feed on your page.

Responding to Comments and Building Community

Speaker 1

I love it, love it. So, with that being said, let's get into our next tip is to go respond to your latest comments and DMs. I think people forget that social media is social and it's easy to forget. I mean, a lot of what we're getting is, you know, advertisements now, so I get that. But if you go interact with people, it's amazing how they appreciate that and then will interact with you, which then gives your post more engagement and shows the algorithm that this is a good post and gets it to more people. So I mean, the end, all goal is to do that. But if you just go talk to people and just say, hey, man, the weather's nice out here, or oh, this food's really good, or something, it not only helps with the algorithm, but it helps your social media soul. Thoughts on that Savannah.

Speaker 2

Yes, so social media is social and oftentimes people forget that. Like you said, it's so simple just to respond back to someone and go back through your DMs or comment on someone's page something you relate to, or it can even be a sample. This looks like so much fun, so let people know your account is alive and thriving. It's just as important as texting someone back.

Speaker 2

You know they're taking the time out of their day to comment on your page or to DM you. So you know it keeps your account alive and it makes people feel special and it helps you build community because then people know, hey, xyz is running this account or they're behind the account. It doesn't feel stale and again, it's just important because it really lets your personality shine throughout all the images and videos that you post on your page. That may be tailored to your niche or business, but it reminds people why they support or follow your page. It's because of the friendship or the community that they feel while being on there.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and remember, this is a window into your business, so people feel like they can trust you, so they can book your services or buy your product. So you know you want to be there for them. And, like I said, it's amazing. Like once you do this, like when you start talking to people, you're like, oh, this person is so-and-so and they know so-and-so, so it's just a good thing to start putting in practice. You know, and this is about reinvigorating, reigniting your social media. So if you've got comments that are from last year that haven't been answered.

Speaker 2

Don't go that far back. That gets kind of weird. Huh, savannah, Definitely you do not need to go back, because it's kind of like when someone texts you and you don't have their number saved and you don't know who it is. It's just it puts you in an awkward position. Um, so definitely don't do that, but this is just super important.

Speaker 1

Moving into what we were going to talk about next, about collaborating with other businesses, and before, before we do that, what's your timeline on how far you should go back if you're trying to reignite your social? 30 days, two weeks. I'm going to go with 30 days.

Speaker 2

I would say 30 days and then, if it's past that, just leave it be.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

If you haven't like, interact with it, and you don't have to go comment on every single comment. You can just like a comment and acknowledge that you saw it.

Speaker 2

But okay, now take us to where you were put, turn the keys back on and take us back where you were going um, I think I was just trying to tie it back to collaborating with businesses and making sure that you're again building community, getting involved, um, with other pages and supporting them just like you want them to support yourself. It just drives collaboration and people can see oh, xyz supports this page, or you know, I see them commenting on their page all the time. They must have like a good relationship. People see that.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so you definitely. You know it's that whole, that whole game of your network is your net worth and so you definitely want to be collabing, engaging with other businesses that you respect or purchase their services or products from. This gets your name out there so people will see that you're engaging and they'll be like oh, who's that? And then they'll go look and say, oh, I like that, oh, they sell this, I'm going to buy that. So you know, make sure you're engaging with accounts that you like or respect and follow and comment, so that just it just gets your name out there more and it will lead to more follows and more comments on your page.

Speaker 2

Oftentimes too. Sometimes you get so crammed in social media that you forget. Accounts or pages exist that you follow, so by commenting on someone's page it might reignite the connection, like, oh my gosh, I forgot about this business or this person, but by seeing them underneath the comments of another post I can click their account, or click the account and I'm back on the page again. So it's kind of a little reminder and, again, just a good way to keep your page alive.

Finding Your Best Performing Content

Speaker 1

On the feed Our next tip to reignite your social media. And it's OK, this happens to everybody. Sometimes you just got to be reignited, excited and then get back in there, so don't feel like your social media page is lost. And also, too, you know we're going to get into our other things, savannah. I think people like to see a social media comeback, like I've seen several pages like be dormant for a while, then come back and it's like people were waiting on them and they're excited and they get back in it and usually that person or that account is reinvigorated and got new ideas and new content. And I think it's a it's a comeback story. I don't know why, but I think people really like when social media accounts come back, cause there's a reason why you followed it in the first place.

Speaker 2

Well, again, people definitely do go through and purge pages and just unfollow people. So if you're not being active and they notice that, they're going to unfollow. And again, a good comeback story is great and it's okay if you've fallen off. Social media is hard to keep up with and it can oftentimes feel overwhelming. But, again, people love to see your page being active and that's really. All that matters is that you're just, you know, engaging and collaborating and being on top of it, behind it, you know. So what if you fell off and you haven't posted in 30 days? It's just about starting.

Speaker 1

Get back on that horse. The first step is always the hardest. This next topic is one of my favorites. I love finding the best performing posts, whether it be an educational post, whether it be a funny post. If you go into your analytics and you see which post has done the best, that should turn into your North Star of what kind of content you should really be making for your followers. So I'm an analytics guy. I enjoy it. Started it when I was a sports guy, so I love stats. But you know, check your stats once a week, Would you say Savannah once a week, twice a week.

Speaker 2

Um, I mean, things change daily, so if you have time to check, it's literally right underneath your profile on Instagram. You can see your dashboard, click your analytics and go through. You don't have to do a whole deep dive, but just noticing what did better than the rest. So you know that like hey, people like when I'm talking in videos more, or people like when I'm posting pictures of XYZ um, just gives you a good idea of what to do to make it easier on yourself instead of harder.

Planning Simple Content Days

Speaker 1

Yeah, I mean it's. It's really not that hard. I mean, instagram has it right underneath, like Savannah said, underneath your bio. Um, facebook has meta business. You can go in there and it should have your Facebook and Instagram on all these apps assets. They have tools so you can see which is the best performing post and so, once again, find out what is your best performing post. Use that as your North Star. Don't make every piece of content like that, because then it'll get stale, but use it as your North Star to say OK, if I'm going to post 12 times a month, 15 times a month, 20 times a month, at least 50 to 60 percent of my post should be going in this direction. Next one we're going to do. Post something. Today.

Speaker 1

A lot of people stop posting on their business accounts because they tend to overthink their content. While having a strategy and content plan is the best, oh man, I can't post, it's gotta be like this, it's gotta be like that. You know, comparison is a thief of joy. Just post something, because everybody is thinking like that, everybody's like oh, I have to have the number one killer post. No, you don't get it out there. Get some copy out and then go ahead and get another post out there, like post, post, post. All content is good content. Um, but yeah, that's that's the thing that we run into a lot with with businesses we work with, with friends who have businesses and with friends with personal accounts. They're like I want to post, but I just don't know what to post, or it's not good enough, but no, all content is good content. You you know, and the more you post, the better you're going to get at it.

Speaker 2

Almost every, almost every single platform, whether it be TikTok, pinterest, instagram, facebook, rewards you when you post. So posting every day, or posting something, is more important than posting nothing and overthinking it, because then you're not even like in the universe of the social media for you to even get rewarded for your content. Um, and sometimes you know people will post every day and they're like why am I not getting you know likes or comments? And there are droughts within the algorithm where, yes, you're posting great content and yes, you're at least posting something, but but right then, and there it might not be rewarding you, but you'd be surprised, in like a few weeks or even a few days, you'll start seeing those numbers hike up because they notice that you're putting in the effort to do it.

Speaker 2

I wish we had all the algorithm answers. It changes literally probably every other second. But just posting something again, not overthinking it, it could just be a story post. If you don't have time for a whole actual post where you need to come up with the captions, it could be a video with just something simple to say. It doesn't have to be as complex as people feel like it needs to be just because of what other people are posting.

Speaker 1

Nice Nail on the head on that one I like it. So done is better than perfect. The more you post, the more perfect your posts will become. With that being said, what do you think about a scheduling tool, Savannah?

Speaker 2

I think scheduling tools make your life easier, especially if you are a busy person and you don't have time, because doing a post right there in the moment could take you 15 to 30 minutes trying to figure out what to say, trying to put a filter on it, trying to edit it everything like that for something that could just be, you know, scheduled away and you don't even have to think about it. There's so many different scheduling platforms, but to dumb it down, I would just use the scheduling platforms within the apps TikTok allows you to schedule, instagram allows you to schedule an app, and then Facebook.

Speaker 2

A meta business profile A meta business profile has a way for you to make a plan and plan out all of your content. It's not something you necessarily have to do, but if you feel overwhelmed by the process, if you have content already on your phone, you can just go in, put a few captions on there, schedule it, and then you can take a breath because that part is over.

Speaker 1

Very much so, and it's the Meta Business Suite, not Meta Business Profile. But, with that being said, the Meta Business Suite is very easy to use. It works across Facebook and Instagram and that is probably the easiest one to start using. It's the actual app, so they are really tied into how your analytics are going. They probably have the best reports because they are the app, but you can also, you know, they give you tidbits, they give you challenges, all kinds of stuff. So if you're new out there to scheduling, it'll help you with the process and make it feel not so daunting. So it'll show you like the best times, the best days, you know, like I said, it has challenges which it rewards you for. I'm a gamify person. I love gamifying life, so check out the Meta Business Suite but, like Savannah said, there's so many out there.

Speaker 2

And you have. You probably have so much content on your phone you don't even realize could be used as content. So just sitting down looking at the actual like planner and plugging in content will just simply ease your mind and give you brain space to actually create content that you are proud of and can put some extra energy into creating. You know we were going to talk about next planning your content day, and you don't have to make it a whole like eight hour shoot a camera and a ring light and a microphone.

Speaker 2

Yes, those things are great and they make it a little bit. You know nicer if that's the look you're going for, but I feel like nine times out of ten it's like the most organic content is the easiest to create and it does well.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Speaker 2

So your next content day that you plan could just be an hour of you talking to the camera or showing off your product. You know it doesn't necessarily need to be a trend. Trends are great. Obviously. They reward them with the trending sounds and the types of hooks and those things like that. But planning your content day doesn't need to look like an editorial photo shoot.

Speaker 1

Preach sister.

Speaker 2

I don't need three lights and camera and obviously I kind of feel called out because that's literally what I do. I'm the one who shows up with the lights and camera and microphone.

Speaker 1

Hey, I carry the lights.

Speaker 2

Yes, yes, and the reflector.

Speaker 1

You're the reflector.

Speaker 2

You're the reflector, but when it comes to trying to just get content on your page and that's what we're trying to give you advice for, simplifying it is planning your next content day doesn't have to look like that. You don't need to go spend $200 on Amazon. You can pull out your phone. Make sure your lighting is good. We live in the sun-sun state of Florida, so there's lots of good lighting.

Speaker 2

Let's go and making sure that your camera's cleaned. You know, give a little wipe with your shirt or a little wash rag and take an hour to just sit there and talk to the camera. Or, again, just show off a product. It doesn't need to look like anything crazy. Life gets busy. So, you know, we're simply here to give you some tips and tricks on how to simplify your content and make it as easy as possible so you can get your page up and running.

Speaker 1

Yes, and once again, savannah said it simplify. You know, we've all gone through these pitfalls of social media. That's one reason why we're giving you these tips is because we've done this before and we've been doing it for a long time, right, savannah, and we've been doing it for a long time, right, savannah, mm-hmm.

Speaker 1

So you know your content day, if it's just you and it's just your business, and you have that daunting feeling inside your chest. The way you get rid of that is by action. Right, just turn on the camera, scroll over your napkins or your letters or your cheese or your alcohol or whatever product you're putting out there for people. Just do a scroll over it, put some music over it, put a little caption. Don't think too much. Say, hi guys, check this out, like and share if you like, and I'll be back. That's it. You know, just start getting out there, and the more you start doing that, the more comfortable you'll be and the more you'll start making more content and the more you'll start making even better content.

Speaker 2

So I myself have to remind myself almost daily to just get it done, you know, because you can't sit there and doom, scroll for five hours hoping to find some type of inspiration or a trend that you want to do, and by the time you get to that point it's probably not even a trend anymore, or it's probably, you know, more work than just making the content within those few hours that you could have done.

Speaker 2

Like you could have taken that time to create instead of doom scrolling and then feeling kind of what's the word? Uninspired, and then you're not making content, and it's this consistent cycle of feeling like you're not doing good enough or putting in enough work, or you don't have time to create and all this stuff. So I think it's fun to just pull out the phone and see what happens, instead of trying to dig through a bazillion different pages and again losing the focus of just doing it.

Speaker 1

And losing the inspiration because you're seeing these other reels. And also you said something too fun Social media creating is supposed to be fun.

Being Authentic in Your Social Media

Speaker 2

It's so much fun when you're just taking the time and you have no pressure.

Speaker 2

I often think about the days of do you remember that video app? I don't remember what it was called Vine, no, Well, similar, but it was an editing app that was super big on your iPhone. I don't even remember when, but anyway I guess where I was going with that. It was just simpler. People weren't there wasn't anything to compare it to. People were just going on there silly crazy effects on it and doing different um audios and changing their voice and putting different texts, and it was fun and it did well, because you can tell that they were just having fun with it and that took off and it continues to take off. When people are authentic, you trying to be like everyone else and doing the content to look like everybody else's, it will probably get lost in the sauce of who you're trying to be, because it's not you trying to be yourself.

Speaker 1

Boom, let's go. Yes, be yourself. Um, and that's a bonus right there. That wasn't in our plans, but we're going to roll with that. Be yourself, because if you're trying to be like everybody else like Savannah said you're going to get lost in the fray. Stick out by being yourself. There's a reason why you were born. There's a reason why you're selling that product. You have your own audience. Just put it out there and then it'll get better and it'll be different because it's you. Stay you, you. And it'll get better and it'll be different because it's you. Stay you. You know you can't have them. What if there were like a million Ramseys or like a million Savannahs?

Speaker 2

No, thank you, I'm good.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so be your own self. Be your own. Be your own cheese company. Be your own you know food truck. Be your own DJj company, be your own marketing company, and it will shine through it's funny because I literally just saw this tip and trick.

Speaker 2

We often say that people should do day-in-the-life videos. People love seeing what's going on people's day to day. Um, I, but I I don't. I wish I could credit who the creator was. I don't know off the top of my head, but they were basically talking about how you need to swap your day in the life for, like, instead of clips of the day. So you know, you're making your breakfast and you're going to work, and then you're getting off work and you're going to the gym, and then you're literally talking about it. You're like, yeah, I went to work, I ate lunch, I went to the gym. It's, it's not engaging.

Speaker 2

It's like obviously I just saw you do it Like you wouldn't tell people that in your day to day. So instead, a tip that she gave on how to be more unique in your content was to talk about what's actually going on behind the scenes of you doing that. So instead of like I ate breakfast or I made this, it's like you know, this morning. So it's like the B-roll clip of you making your breakfast, you're doing whatever, but you talk about how you felt, like this morning I woke up and I had a migraine, and or this morning I woke up and there were, you know, there was a cat outside the window just talking about things that actually happened. Instead of telling them what's happening, they're they're literally watching what's happening, like they saw that you made your breakfast. You don't need to tell them to make it into. So many day in the lives look like that. And that's why people are like, well, I'm making them. Why are they not, you know, popping off? Because they're not unique to you, like someone could probably relate to you.

Speaker 2

Oh my gosh, I had a cat, you know, walk across the yard this morning when I looked out the window or something like that, and I'm just trying to tie that back to the uniqueness of your perspective and your point of view and being yourself. That's why people want to watch your content. Anybody can make a day in the life and every morning I'm going to assume all of you listening wake up, make breakfast go to work and get off work, you know, but how do you tailor that to yourself?

Speaker 1

So, for example, it would be like me like driving to work, but instead of like being like driving to work, be like. You know, I'm listening to this Forrest Frank album and it's really put me in a good mood with all the struggles I got going on. Um should check them out for Frank on Spotify.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and then people get a glimpse into, like what you're listening to, how you're feeling and you're being yourself and you know. It's almost like people say social media you mentioned it earlier is social. You're talking to your friends. If you were at lunch with your friends, you're talking to them, you're telling them what happened.

Speaker 1

You know.

Speaker 2

And I don't know why the pressure is so hard on social media, where people have, kind of like, done it down to taking out their personality, and that's why we're trying to tell you, and our last and final tip is to be yourself that's the easiest part be authentic.

Speaker 2

Who cares what people think? You know, sure, maybe some people. I've personally never listened to forrest frank and I'm probably missing out, but you know, if there are people who disagree or like I, don't really like him. So what you do, and you're going to find 10 more friends online who probably do.

Speaker 1

Now Yep, yep, yep, yep. I love it. Give me a high five on that one. Let's make it loud that was a high five, in case, and we didn't show it, but we are telling you about it. Yeah, that it actually happened and hopefully wasn't a sound effect.

Recap of Top Social Media Revival Tips

Speaker 2

No, that was real all right, all right.

Speaker 1

So real quick, we're gonna go over the top, top uh things. Just real quick to give everybody a reminder. Do a sweep through all your platforms to update your cover photos. Update your bio and about sections for accuracy and consistency. Review your grid and archive old posts and events. Go respond to your latest comments and DMs. Start engaging with other businesses you like and respect. Find your best performing posts. Make a plan from there. Post something today. Purchase a scheduling tool, plan a content day. That is very simplified, make it only an hour and our bonus was what Savannah?

Speaker 2

Be yourself.

Speaker 1

Booyah, be yourself. And another one I'm going to give you too. Go ahead and plan out a whole month, but do post twice a week. That's an easy way to get started. Post twice a week, so plan out a whole month of stuff that you post twice a week. So that's only eight posts that you got to worry about, but that'll be eight posts that are getting scheduled, that are getting put out there, that you don't have to worry about, and you'll see the magic start happening. So, with that being said, smash a like on this. If this has done you any good, share it if it's done any good for you, so somebody else can get out there and get their social media going and, with that being said, practical rebels out.
