Here, have a bonus episode! 🙌

In this unscheduled and totally organic episode of Practical Rebels, Ramsey and Joe talk about The Hatchery. This is HatchMark Studio's first-ever internship program, offering students real-world agency experience and one local business a chance to receive an agency-quality brand at a fraction of the cost. Joe, our senior graphic designer, talks to Ramsey about how this 12-week, paid internship will immerse three students in a summer packed with real agency work.

The program is inviting a graphic designer, a copywriter, and a content creator to spend the summer with us in our office. Applications are being accepted now through April 6. Whether you're a student or a business owner, you must apply to be considered!

Speaker 1

Hello , ladies and gentlemen , good morning , Good evening , good afternoon . Welcome back to the Practical

Welcome to Practical Rebels

Speaker 1

Rebels podcast . How are we doing over there ?

Speaker 2

Joe . Oh , we're doing fantastic . I'm very happy to be here . Thanks for having me .

Speaker 1

Well , I'm very excited to have you here and , just in case you guys don't know , joe is our . You know what Joe explain to the people , what you do here in your role okay , I will .

Speaker 2

I am the senior graphic designer here and um , I do a little bit of everything , mostly graphic design related . Um , I do a lot of illustration animation , um been getting into a lot of video editing and just all around brand work and stuff like that . Okay . Okay , you know , have fun okay , all right .

Speaker 1

Well , joe . Joe's one of my buddies here and co-workers . I'd rather call him a buddy buddy first yeah , buddy first buddy worker .

Speaker 1

buddy worker birdie , no , no , just buddy capital b , yes , yes . And so we just wanted to get in here real quick because , you know , we just rolled out our social media campaign about the hatchery and we just want to , you know , break down some walls about if you're thinking about applying or just trying to find out more information , and I couldn't have anybody better to do that and break down the walls than Joe Chisnell . So is it ? Is it Chisnell or Chisnell Chisnell ?

Speaker 2

Chisnell . Okay , the , the key is , it sounds like cheese ball . You can just call me cheese ball too . I answer to that as well .

Speaker 1

Cheese ball . We got Joe cheese ball here , guys , the one and only , all right . So let's get into the hatchery

What is The Hatchery Internship?

Speaker 1

and tell me talk to the people what your role is with the hatchery .

Speaker 2

So the hatchery is going to be our first ever internship and I'm going to be a bit of a mentor in it . You know we're going to have three different roles . We're going to have a social media intern , a design intern and a copywriting intern . Each of those will report to the different department head , department heads oh , God , we sound so corporate .

Speaker 1

I know it's crazy , and so you're .

Speaker 2

You're going to be in charge of the design , ok intern , so they'll just come to me if they have any questions or need any um advice on anything um , and we're just going to be there to kind of guide them through , show them , keep in check with them with the check-ins and things like that with the clients and with uh yeah exactly that .

Speaker 2

because , too , you know the , the way that the hatchery is going to work is we are going to work with one client to rebrand their one local client to rebrand their business , and we're going to have our interns do that brand . So and a lot of that , that can be kind of a lot coming right out of school . So we're going to be kind of the in between between the client to you know , to talk , to teach the student how to communicate with the client , how to do all this because it's kind of a lot , but we'll just be the kind of guiding hands to be there and help make sure they don't get too overwhelmed .

Speaker 1

Right Just help help facilitate between the client and the intern and the intern to the client . Exactly I like it , I like it so . So , since we're breaking down barriers , we're breaking down walls , people um the hatchery walls . We're breaking it down . We want you in here . Um what would like a normal day or an intern . Look like coming in .

Speaker 2

Well , the cool thing that I love about working at an agency is that every day is so crazy

A Day in the Life at the Agency

Speaker 2

and it can be so different yeah so it's .

Speaker 2

it's hard to say , but , um , I think you know , every morning we we come in , we have our morning meeting where we all kind of figure out what we're doing for the day , get our heads in the right place so that we can start the day on the right note , and then um kind of go from there . A lot of it , you know , I guess a lot of it's going to be conceptualizing uh , logo ideas and and things about the brand , different brand assets that you want to build . So it's , there's going to be a lot of thinking involved , you know , sketching things out and then , and then um in doing enough of that before hitting the computer and then going in and just building things and and kind of going from there , wow , wow okay and a good swing break every now and then .

Speaker 1

Yes , yes , because we have amazing swings . Yeah , maybe a walk , maybe maybe a little chat and then back to work . Exactly .

Speaker 2

And lunch . You know we have group lunches quite often .

Speaker 1

We do , we do , we enjoy , we enjoy working with each other .

Speaker 2

Yeah , so you know it's , it's , it's a . It's a really great environment here . It's a very um good atmosphere to be creative . That's why I love it so much . I think it's going to be a very good opportunity for students to come and see what it's like to be in a creative space like that .

Why This Internship is Different

Speaker 1

Now , why is this a good internship ?

Speaker 2

If you were the intern , why would you apply ? Oh , I think this is If I had this opportunity when I was in school , I would have jumped all over it , mostly because not a lot of students will get the opportunity to come straight out of school and get to work on a brand . A lot of times in design jobs it's just hard to get the opportunity to work on something that big right away .

Speaker 2

Um , you kind of have to pay your dues a lot and work on a lot of production work for a while before you know , people can really see that you are able to do some of that work , and so it's a great opportunity for students to to see what it's like to actually build the brand , um , and to work with a actual client rather than having something that is in their portfolio , that is spec work , right , right . So you know it's , it's great coming out of school getting to work on a brand , but then also being able to take that brand and put it in your portfolio and be like look at this thing that I built , you know this big , huge thing that you know we all kind of did together . It's it's a really great opportunity . I think that is one of the best selling points .

Speaker 1

So yeah , I think that you know , coming out of college or being in college , getting your hands on something that's not spec work , an actual project at a top agency with top designers um , I mean everybody's , you're welcome , everybody's top , uh , first class here I feel like . So I feel like getting you know there's more , there's more to the job than just the screen .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah .

Speaker 1

So I think you know getting that , you know we do like you said . We do a lot of ideation without the screen . Like we come up with like the whole hatchery social media campaign . I mean , yeah , Started with , you know all of us kind of talk about it . Pain , I mean , yeah , Started with , you know all of us kind of talk about it . Then I went kind of broke it down into the processes and they got actual art or designs we needed . Sat with Logan , he put in his input . Um , then he went and you know , wrote the copy for the captions . Um did some storyboarding for some of the reels . Um had the great idea for the reel with you with the with the cardboard . Yeah , uh , not cardboard but whiteboards , yeah , is that ? No , that's not a whiteboard , you know what I mean poster board .

Speaker 2

Thank , you type of board .

Speaker 1

It is that type of board but yeah , I mean , and then everybody working together to create that and then Savannah , like editing it and then posting . So I think it's just a really , really great opportunity to get like probably some of the most real world experience in Pensacola you can get .

Speaker 2

Yeah , and working with a team for sure , because you know , I remember coming out of school and feeling like I had to be everything as a designer . You feel like you have to be . You know you have to learn how to code , you have to learn how to take photos , you have to learn how to draw , you have to do all these things and it's very overwhelming . But I think exactly what you said this is a great opportunity to show what it's like to play a role in a team and you know , it's not just about one person , it is about the group .

Speaker 2

So it is great to see , to be able to have these interns work with each other to build out this brand together . I think is a very um , it's . It's a great way , because and a lot of times in life that's I mean , that's what life is You're going to be working with other people . You got to learn how to do it , so , um , I think it's going to be a really good , good opportunity for that as well . Yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah , and so I know the businesses are going to get a brand book

What Businesses Get from This

Speaker 1

. Talk to us about that , the business . What exactly are they getting ?

Speaker 2

So what they will be getting at the end of our internship they'll have a new logo , they'll have their brand suite , so it'll come with colors , it'll come with the brand assets , a lot of different headlines that they can use in social media , in , you know , in all of their communications with their clients . It's going to be something that is going to completely change the look of their business and that is very powerful . You know , that's so powerful , that's so powerful .

Speaker 2

I think , everybody understands that , and so it's really cool to be able to do that , and to do that at a slightly reduced rate because , a lot of people can't afford big brand changes because it is a lot of work , you know . And so this is , I think , great , great opportunity for the businesses to be able to see what it's like to , to you know , Take that leap and get into the brand design process Exactly and and not have to , you know , shell out the amount that it would normally cost .

Speaker 1

So you're getting super quality product for a super reduced rate , while helping an intern build a portfolio to help them get a job . It's like all good things .

Speaker 2

It is . I don't know why anyone would not do this .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I , I , I get it , I get it . I think that , uh , and also too , like you know , even though I'm in social media , like I've been in some of the brand meetings and it is intense , so , you know , for a business that's thinking about it or for a student who's thinking about interning , this is definitely going to put you through the ringers and you're going to be like , oh wow , this is how this is actually done .

Speaker 2

This is not what they show on social media no yeah , and it's it's , um , it's a process and it's it is intense , but it's , it's a lot of fun too . You know , like that is the one thing , too , that I love about this , about working at an agency specifically Hatchmark is it's just there's so much creativity , there's so much , um freedom to be creative , and it's like if you have that great idea , it is always like we'll follow that great idea .

Speaker 2

So it's , it's it is a very nurturing environment and um yeah , it's just a great place to come up with great ideas and once again , this is just a quick episode .

Speaker 1

We just came in here to pop up , pop in um . Our deadline to submit is april 6th . Yes , so get in there , get your application submitted . Whether you're an intern or a business , you will be applying for either the brand development positions , the copywriting position or the social media content creation position , and you'll either be .

Speaker 2

You'll be working with the whole team , but who will be driving your bus , primarily , will be joe yeah logan or savannah savannah yes , and so the one thing , too , is that , um , when it comes to working with the client and working on the brand , that will just be the brand intern and the well , the designer intern and the copywriting intern , the social media intern , will not be working on that brand .

Speaker 2

They will be working on just day-to-day social media help from our clients from hatchmark

Application Details and Closing Thoughts

Speaker 2

, which we have plenty of work to put you on which is also just fun because it's it's exciting to to do that the um , the agency work of just doing a million different things .

Speaker 1

And .

Speaker 2

I think you and Savannah have some of the funnest jobs because you guys always get to do cool photo shoots and stuff . Well , thank you , I'm very jealous of it .

Speaker 1

Don't be jealous , because you're over there drawing cool stuff , man , and you have the best seat in the office . Yeah , it's tucked away in a corner . I love it if you , if you ever sick for an extended amount of time , I'm taking your seat okay , okay I'm watching you .

Speaker 1

Uh , also , too , it will be . Uh , it's for 12 weeks , correct , yes , and that's from may to august and it's three days a week at our lovely office on 1201 barrancas . And you get paid , yeah , money , real money , you get , you get . It's nice . Yeah , you get real money . Yeah , so you know opportunity , um , when it knocks , you got to answer that door . So , um , once again , we just wanted to pop in here real quick and answer some quick questions we've been getting about the hatchery . Let you all hear Joe Cheeseball Chisnall's voice that's the name , because he's he's great , he's fantastic . He needs to be on the podcast more . But businesses , students , brand designers , copywriters , content creators , make sure you get your application in , and I love the want in on this egg-cellent opportunity .

Speaker 2

There's a lot of egg puns too . So you know , that's another positive .
