Martin Di Maggio

Martin Di Maggio is a community development worker and sociolinguist specialising in LGBTI+ rights, neurodiversity, and religious literacy. He delivers training for public sector organisations and has worked with the CPS to improve police responses to hate crime against marginalised groups. A member of the Society for Humanistic Judaism, Martin grew up in Hereford and Worcester in a mixed British-Italian-Albanian family. He holds an MA in Language Documentation from SOAS and a BA in Anthropology and Community Development. A fluent second-generation speaker of Arbëresh, Martin runs Arbëresh TV on YouTube, promoting the language’s dynamic use and challenging stigma around code-mixing. He leads projects creating educational tools for revitalising Arbëresh, including multimedia vocabulary resources. His lifelong passion for endangered languages combines with his commitment to inclusion and human rights, bridging community development, advocacy, and linguistic preservation.
