
Valerie Jack
Valerie Jack is a writer of non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and plays, and the author of Living with Death without God, which explores how non-religious people find solace, hope, and meaning in the face of loss and illness. A graduate of Oxford (BA), York (MA), and Brunel (PGCE), Valerie taught English and Classical Civilisation for 12 years while developing her writing. Her play Fireworks was staged twice in London and praised by The Observer as “sparky,” while her poetry has appeared in The Times Literary Supplement, Magma, Stand, Agenda, and The North. Her first collection, Educational (tall-lighthouse, 2009), was followed by numerous prizes, including the 2023 Chesham Literary Festival poetry competition. She lives in Chesham with her husband and two children and is currently working on her second poetry collection and debut novel.
