EP # 248 Behind the Truck: How One Midwest Work Ethic Built a Junk Empire in Southwest Florida

"Cabo" Jim Schaller Season 2 Episode 248

Ever wondered what happens to that old recliner after the junk truck drives away? Jude Rozanski, owner of Junk It Quick, is changing perceptions about junk removal one truckload at a time across Southwest Florida.

Jude's journey began with a family move from Ohio to Florida to support his special needs brother. After working briefly for a moving company, he took the entrepreneurial leap, starting Junk It Quick three years ago. Armed with Midwest work ethic in a region he teasingly describes as operating on "island time," Jude built a reputation for punctuality, professionalism, and reliability that's become his competitive edge.

What makes this conversation fascinating is the misconceptions Jude dispels about his industry. Contrary to popular belief, not everything ends up in landfills. Quality items find new homes through veteran organizations and charities—a sustainability commitment that surprises many customers. From single-item pickups to complete home cleanouts reminiscent of the TV show "Hoarders," Junk It Quick handles every job with equal care and respect.

The psychological dimension of junk removal emerges as we discuss how clearing physical spaces provides emotional relief. "Our main goal is simple," Jude explains. "Take the stress off our customers' shoulders and leave them feeling relieved and happy with the clean space." This transformation extends beyond the visible clutter to create genuine peace of mind.

Whether you're downsizing, decluttering, or dealing with inherited property, Junk It Quick offers more than just hauling services—they deliver the fresh start that comes with reclaiming your space. Have you considered how a professional junk removal service might transform your home and mindset? Connect with Junk It Quick on social media or visit junketquickcom to learn more.

Speaker 1:

It's time to check out your neighbors on the Good Neighbor podcast, where we bring good vibes, great neighbors and local businesses in Southwest Florida together. Here's your host, Cabo Jim Schaller.

Speaker 2:

Welcome, Good Neighbors, to episode number 248 of the Good Neighbor podcast. Today we have Good Neighbor Jude Rozanski from It Quick Quick Welcome. Thank you for having me. Yeah, absolutely so. I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're in the junk business.

Speaker 1:

That is a good guess.

Speaker 2:

Yes, all right. Why don't we start off by sharing a little bit about what you do?

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah. So Junk it Quick is a junk removal company. We remove furniture, appliances, construction debris. We've been doing that for three years. We do that from Punta Gorda down to Naples. We really pride ourselves on being fast, responsive and professional. We offer single item pickup and we also offer an option to clean out your entire home, so there's no job that's too small or too big.

Speaker 2:

Everything mean everything must go right everything must go. Yeah, it's just almost like the show hoarders right, right, so you had a couple of times. I'm sure there's plenty of those people around down here as well. Yeah, so how does one get involved in hauling junk around or away?

Speaker 1:

so you know, it kind of took me, you know, by the blind side. I, when I moved down here, my family moved down here, like I said, about three and a half years ago or so and I worked for a moving in a junk removal company, right when I moved down here is actually the people that moved my family into their home and me and the owner of that company became very close and he would always just encourage me to, you know, start your own company, whether it's this or something else. And you know I was, I was kind of ready to take the leap of faith of going into, you know, kind of betting on myself and getting out of the you know nine to five lifestyle. So what I did is I, I went out and got a truck, made my LLC, me and my dad, you know he helped me with the colors and the name and everything like that, and then I just started hitting every single networking group possible and pretty much, that's pretty much how it started. The rest is history.

Speaker 2:

And it kind of took off so let's talk about challenges along the way, Obviously going from concept to reality, you know, and starting a new business on your own, there's a lot of challenges, whether personally or professionally. Is there something happened along your journey that?

Speaker 1:

you can look back at now and said you know what I made it through. Yeah, I would say I think the biggest struggle for small businesses and just getting started is really having the capital and then finding you know the right direction to go with the company that you know with your company and I think along the way you know meeting people and networking. You know you kind of figure out what you want to do and how to get to the end destination. But I think you know the really hard thing of business is you know you're the only one that can see the end goal and the dream. So that's kind of the hardest thing to work with is just kind of making that happen.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, making that a reality it's from concept to reality can be a little daunting sometimes, but obviously you've made it through, so that's a good thing. So let's talk about the myths or misconceptions surrounding what you do that we could maybe clear up for our listeners today.

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah. So there are a lot of misconceptions about the junk removal industry. A few that stick out to me is that we just throw everything away, everything just goes to the landfill, everything just gets burned energy. That's not true. Many items that we do pick up do go to the dump. They get burned, and that is one way to get rid of things. We do a lot of donation too, whether it's shoes, clothes, tvs, really anything can be donated if it is good quality. We try to donate to veterans and things like that. Another thing that I would say is showing up late or just not showing up at all, or companies that are unprofessional. You know, I'm from Ohio. We have that good Midwest work ethic and I know a lot of the contractors are down here, you know are on that what we call island time. We don't do that over here at Junket Quick. We answer the phone, we show up on time, we give clear, concise conversations. So that would probably be just. The one thing is just is this the work ethic and where the waste actually goes?

Speaker 2:

There we go. So you're saying you have a work ethic. That's a good thing.

Speaker 1:

A little bit, a little bit.

Speaker 2:

I love that. So do you notice anything trending in the industry, lately Changing maybe?

Speaker 1:

I would say just probably being on social media, I'm seeing a lot of people, you know they post videos of what they're doing. You know everyone always watches those pressure washing videos. You know I'll sit there for seven minutes and watch somebody pressure wash a driveway. It's kind of the same thing in our industry is everyone takes videos, they do time lapses, you know testimonials with customers, so that's kind of really coming out. I see a lot of you know even younger kids you know starting a junk removal company and really just you know cranking it out on.

Speaker 2:

TikTok, yeah, a little, step by step People love the videos nowadays they love videos. Man, so you mentioned you were from Ohio. What brought you to Southwest Florida?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so my little brother, he is about 11 and he has special needs. He's high functioning, he has autism and he's nonverbal and the schooling down here is just better for him. It just really wasn't helping him very much in Ohio, so we moved down here, or my parents moved down here, and then about two weeks later I came down and and just you know, to be with my, just be with my family pretty much.

Speaker 2:

Love it, love it, it's a great place to be Great place for family. So I know owning a business could be very demanding of your time. But when you do get a free moment, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Speaker 1:

I would have to say being outside. I mean, it's beautiful here, being active outside. I like spending time at the beach, to the gym, nature walks, hanging out with friends, cooking, um, and I, to be honest, I really enjoy just a good old lazy day. I know we all can admit that we all love a good.

Speaker 2:

When I can, get one by the beach outside. Yes, we cannot complain about that at all, and I guess you've given up snow shoveling right yeah, yeah, I Never again, never going back there, ever again. So is there one thing you wish our listeners knew about Junk?

Speaker 1:

It Quick that maybe they won't be too familiar with. I would just say that you know we really put heart into what we do. I know it's it's just seems like it's junk removal, but it really is more than that. You know, we are a small company, a local company that really does care about our community is more than that. You know we are a small company, a local company that really does care about our community, especially our senior and our veteran community. We offer fast, responsive, professional junk removal service and our customers get nothing less. Every job is handled with you know, respect and care, no matter the size, even if it's just one recliner, and our main goal is simple it's just take the stress off our customers' shoulders and leave them feeling relieved and happy with the clean space.

Speaker 2:

Very nice, very nice. So how would our listeners go about contacting you if they had some things that need to be removed or somebody in their family's a hoarder and they need to clean that up?
