EP # 255 Building Wealth Isn't Just for the Rich: Strategies from Financial Advisor Brawley Adams
What does it really take to build wealth? According to financial advisor Brawley Adams, it's not about how much money you make—it's about discipline, strategy, and taking that first step.
Having experienced the power of good financial guidance in his own life, Adams recently launched Wealth Builders to share that same transformative experience with others. On this episode of the Good Neighbor Podcast, he challenges one of the most pervasive misconceptions about building wealth: that it's only for those who already have money. "Building wealth isn't only for the rich," Adams explains. "It's not really determined by income level. It's more of a discipline and a strategy that you implement in order to get to where you want to go."
Adams also highlights a massive economic shift on the horizon—the transfer of trillions of dollars from Baby Boomers to younger generations over the next 15-20 years. This wealth transition will reshape the financial landscape as millennials and Gen Z, with their different investment philosophies and greater access to information, inherit businesses, real estate, and investment portfolios. For Adams, this represents both a challenge and an opportunity to help people navigate this unprecedented wealth transfer.
Perhaps most importantly, Adams emphasizes that there's no "perfect moment" to begin your wealth-building journey. "You're never going to have enough money, you're never gonna have all your stuff together where it's the perfect time to start," he says. Whether you're looking to eliminate debt, increase your income, invest more effectively, or protect your existing assets, the key is making the decision to begin. it's time to check out your neighbors on the good neighbor podcast, where we bring good vibes, great neighbors and local businesses in southwest florida together.
Speaker 2:Here's your host, cabo jim shaller welcome good neighbors, episode number 255 of the good neighbor podcast. Today we have good neighbor brawley adams from wealth builders. Welcome, hey, jim. Good seeing you again, pleasure to have you back on the show and, uh, you've got some changes and new things going on, so why don't we start off with that?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I started Wealth Builders as I've been working in the financial service industry for a few years now. I've been able to develop a philosophy, develop a strategy to help people build wealth. So I'm excited to kind of launch Wealth Builders. We have a YouTube page. We're going to have a newsletter, just kind of getting educational content and information out there to people that need it.
Speaker 2:And that's the big thing education. A lot of people aren't aware of what's out there and have a lot of questions about what's out there as well, too.
Speaker 1:So for those that don't know and didn't tune in last time, let's back up your story a little bit on how you got involved in all this. Yeah, so I've always been a people person. Building relationships, working with people, has always been a passion of mine. Me and my wife had people that influenced us on our personal finances early off in our careers and in our marriage, and so finally decided to take the plunge and work with people on their personal wealth building strategies by becoming a financial advisor and a financial planner, and so it's kind of what got me into this industry is really the people, yeah, and then taking care of people and pointing them in the right direction.
Speaker 2:We've all had some type of challenge, and obviously through transition as well too, there are challenges involved. Is there something that you've gone through that you can kind of look back at now and you're like finally made it through and now I'm where I need to be?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I really think the big thing is, you know, going into business for yourself or creating something that you don't know if it's going to work. It's scary, right, it takes a lot of risk and you know I've had support of my family, support of some key people in my life to help make it possible. But it's hard work and you got to stick with it and you got to. You know, continue doing the things that you believe in are going to, you know, create success and manifest it that way. So that's kind of what I got to do now Got to continue pushing forward. There's going to be a lot of ups and downs but you know, just like investing, just like the stock market, if you stick with it you'll you know you'll create wealth one day.
Speaker 2:Absolutely yeah, Just stick with the persistence. That's it, so let's. Are there any? There's a lot changing within the industry. I guess number one. But are there any maybe mis or misconceptions that we can kind of clear up with what's going on currently?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean this question could be answered over two hours, but ultimately, I think you know I chose the name Wealth Builders because building wealth isn't only for the, for the rich, and that's kind of a misconception or a myth that I hear a lot from people is I don't have any money, I don't have any wealth, so how am I supposed to build it? It's not really determined by income level. It's more of a discipline and a strategy that you implement in order to get to where you want to go, and so taking small baby steps and having the right guidance with people that you know you trust is going to be a big thing. And you know that's probably one of the biggest misconceptions I hear regarding the idea of wealth building. Right, there's a lot of different ways to do it, but ultimately it's just discipline and sticking with a strategy and you know seeing the fruits of that Just like losing weight or, you know, getting fit it's going to have the same implications.
Speaker 2:It's a process, but the important part is that you're building it right. It's growing, it's moving in the right direction.
Speaker 1:One day at a time.
Speaker 2:Are there certain things that are maybe changing or trending in the industry currently?
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 1:So one of the biggest ones that I see is there's going to be a big transition of wealth from, let's say, the baby boomer generation to their kids and grandkids over the next 15, 20 years.
Speaker 1:A large population of America right now is currently retired or going to be entering retirement soon, and so essentially, that wealth whether that's real estate assets, business assets, stock market cash is going to be transitioning to, you know, let's say, my generation or the generation under it, and we were raised differently and we have a different philosophy around investing or philosophy around wealth building, and so I think there's going to be a big change in what that looks like, whether that's just investing in a lot more risky assets, investing in a lot more assets that produce cashflow, like real estate or businesses. We've just been exposed to so much more information that we can actually utilize in building wealth, so I think that's gonna be one of the biggest things that a lot of people see, and, working in the industry, I wanna take advantage of that. I wanna help people with that transition and what it looks like and, like you said, that's a big part of what's gonna be happening here in the near future.
Speaker 2:I forget for the last time we talked. Are you from Southwest Florida originally?
Speaker 1:From Polk County near Lakeland, Florida, up near Tampa, my wife's from Naples, so it brought us down here. That's exactly.
Speaker 2:We love it down here. We love Southwest Florida, so I know you're a very busy man. You've got a lot going on with family and business, but when you do get a moment of free time, what do you enjoy doing?
Speaker 1:Probably going to either take my son disc golfing in the park or to the playground in the park or go to the beach. It's where we spend a lot of our time. Recently I have another baby due in July, so that may change for a little bit while we're navigating those waters of going from one kid to two, but ultimately it's getting outside enjoying this paradise that we live in.
Speaker 2:So is there one thing you wish our listeners knew about wealth builders that maybe they wouldn't be too familiar with?
Speaker 1:Um, yeah, that there's no perfect time or opportunity to start Right. Um, it's just a, it's a decision that you have to make. Um, that you want to stick to a strategy that you know, me and my team can help you create, uh, in order to get to your short-term and long-term goals. So there's, you're never going to be, you're never gonna have enough money, you're never gonna have all your stuff together where it's the perfect time to start, and so it's just about making active decision to actually want to make, make active change in your life and in your personal finances. So, whether that's getting out of debt, whether that's making more money, whether that's investing properly, whether that's starting to protect the assets that you've built up.
Speaker 2:Absolutely.
