Your face doesn’t need a “big procedure” to look better but it does need a plan that makes sense. Cabo Jim sits down with Dr. Greet Baestaens from ReNewYu in Naples to talk about natural face rejuvenation that skips lasers, Botox, fillers, threads, and other high-drama fixes. We get honest about what most of us are really after: fewer lines, tighter-looking skin, a smoother texture, less puffiness, and fewer brown spots and hyperpigmentation, especially under the Southwest Florida sun.

We dig into the difference between skin quality and facial structure, because those are two totally different problems with two different solutions. Dr. Baestaens explains why lifestyle factors like sleep, alcohol, hydration, stress, and nutrition show up on your face faster than you think, and why “less is better” often beats a crowded bathroom shelf. We also talk about sun protection in Florida, when a little sunlight can be helpful, and how to avoid pushing your skin barrier into redness and sensitivity from over-treating.

On the treatment side, we break down where microneedling, LED red light therapy, infrared light, and chemical peels can fit and why consistency matters more than a single session. We also sort through at-home tools, what’s legit, what’s uncomfortable enough that you won’t use it, and which claims should make you run if they sound too good to be true. Dr. Baestaens shares a simple 90-day approach aimed at helping you look refreshed while still looking like yourself.

Natural Rejuvenation Without Procedures

"Cabo" Jim

Welcome, good neighbors, to our health and wellness series. Today we're talking face rejuvenation. Without the big procedures, laser, no lasers, no threads, no Botox, fillers. Just what actually helps the skin look fresher, lighter, healthier. Plus, what's the hype? I'm joined by Dr. Greek. Greet? Sorry, Dr. Greek from eReNew Yu in Naples. Thank you for joining us.

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Yeah, excited to be here.

"Cabo" Jim

Yes, so we're focusing on the highest ROI alternatives of what type, especially in Southwest Florida with the sun and humidity around here. When people say I want my face to look better, what's the most common goal? The glow, smoother texture, fewer lines, tighter skin, less puffiness? What are they looking for?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

I think most of the people look for less lines, so tighter skin. Um and also probably uh less hyperpigmentation, brown spots.

"Cabo" Jim

Okay. When when people what's most realistic when people are expecting kind of like a quick fix? Like what can they expect quickly?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

You know, I don't think there is a quick fix for anything. So that's you know, uh declines we really don't want because that's unrealistic. I think uh everything take takes time, the wrinkles didn't come overnight, the hyperpigmentation didn't come overnight. I think you know it needs time to reverse. Um, so you know, you have to give it time and consistency, and uh that's what we want. I don't believe in quick fixes, so that's very unrealistic.

"Cabo" Jim

Exactly. It takes time, right?

Skin Quality Versus Face Structure

"Cabo" Jim

So so uh some things are skin quality, some are structure. What's the difference between improving your skin quality versus changing the structure, like stagging or volume loss?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Yeah, so uh skin quality. I think skin quality comes most of the time from what you eat, you know, your nutrition, do you have enough sleep? That will show uh the skin quality. The structure, what is really framing your face, what's underneath is the muscles, is the ligaments, the fascia. So there is there is two different things. So I think skin, if you have really good skin, it's really what you uh take in. So really the inside is showing, you know, what you have uh in front of you. Uh as you age, our fat pads will, you know, uh melt away. So that will really shape your face. And that's when our Ryu device comes in again because we're toning the muscles underneath, what will take actually the space or fill up the lost space that we had because of our fat loss as we age?

A Non-Laser Option That Tones

"Cabo" Jim

Very good. So if you had to rank the best non-laser, non-injectable options for rejuvenation, what rises to the top for you?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, for me, number one is the reu device that we have. Uh, we don't use any lasers. Uh, a lot of lasers uh go too deep and melt again uh your fat in your face that you absolutely don't want to lose. And so our revie device, it's uh electrical modulation, and that is the only device I recommend, actually.

"Cabo" Jim

Very nice. So

Microneedling LED And Peels

"Cabo" Jim

let's get specific about some of the popular options out there. Um, where do things like microneedling, chemical peels, dermal planning, uh red light, facials, where do they fit in?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, I think if uh your first one was uh microneedling, I think micro needling has uh some value. Again, uh you have to know the skin and go and don't go too deep. You have to go to the right layer where the collagen is building. Um, I would not recommend it with uh radio frequency, just micro needling on its own. Uh red light LED is superficial, is for building collagen. That's where it happens. So uh if you use infrared on top of it, that goes deeper, what is more for like uh cellular rejuvenation. Um I think uh chemical peels. Yes, we can do chemical peels. Um I again I don't believe in very deep chemical peels. You don't have to take the risk to get you know more smooth skin or uh less pigmentation, but again, do it on a regular basis, maybe like a series of three, like you know, six weeks apart or you know, a month apart, two months apart, depending on on the client. So I think definitely they're have their their value, but again, you have to do it all in series. It's not gonna be one micro needling and you're gonna see the collagen popping up or one uh session with LED light, and it's like wow. So it's it's you know the consistency and keep on going uh to maintain afterwards, also.

"Cabo" Jim

Yeah, it makes sense. So if someone is new, what's the safest first step for them?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

The safest first step uh when somebody's new, well, it depends what they really want. Do they want to do just you know, working on their skin, the superficial part, or do they want to really work on their shape? Um the real device, there is no contraindications. Uh, so it's very safe. It's your natural body healing from the inside out. So there is, you know, it's very, very safe. Uh you know, if somebody wants to do a peel, I think they need to use a home care program to really prep the skin to do a chemical peel. Um, microneedling is is very safe again if it's done, you know, with a professional that knows what they're doing, and also, you know, in a facility where everything is very clean because we don't want to create any infections. So there are safe uh modalities, but they have to be done in the right way and in the right environment.

"Cabo" Jim

Good advice, great

The Simplest Routine For Glow

"Cabo" Jim

advice. So someone wants the biggest glow up from skincare. What are the anchor steps that matter the most?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

For skincare, the biggest glow that you can get is um, I think it's it's very simple, okay? So I think you know, washing your face with a product, the product doesn't have to be too expensive, but I think you have to do a regular uh a few times a week, a gentle exfoliation of the skin so that you take the dead cells off, and then automatically you have that glow already, and the products that you use can penetrate deeper. So I think you know, so a wash, you know, even a cheaper version, it doesn't matter, but a good exfoliating uh product that is not too harsh, but that gives you the glow. And then I would say, you know, during the day always some protection, especially here in Florida.

"Cabo" Jim

Now, are there any any products that you recommend?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Uh the a product line, you mean specifically? Yeah. Uh well, you know, I think there is there is so many products uh on on the market. Um, of course, we have products from Europe and it's called Ikari. They're made in Switzerland with less preservatives because we put so many toxins on our skin. We want to really uh prevent to put all the toxins uh on your skin. What we really want is that you are healthy, eat healthy, that you use the less products the better. That's it. So uh we're working with a company now that is making their own skin products without preservatives. So we have a meeting this week, and then you know, some people want more products that are correcting. And here at the center we have ZO from Dr. Obadji, and I think Dr. Obaji is around a long time that you know we we trust his uh products, and Skin Suticles is known for so long, they do good research. So there is good products out there, but in general, my philosophy is less is better. Make sure your skin looks good, your canvas looks good, so we don't really have to use a lot to correct or to you know put stuff on our face, and uh you know, less is better.

"Cabo" Jim

Yep, absolutely. So,

Lifestyle And Sun Protection Basics

"Cabo" Jim

talking about lifestyle, how much do things like sleep, alcohol, hydration, and stress show up in the face, and what changes are noticeable the fastest?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Yeah, I think you know, uh lack of sleep uh is a big thing, you know, you you look tired, uh then alcohol it gives you dehydration. So then also alcohol makes you wake up in the middle of the night, so that's like you know, so uh so you don't sleep good, and um so yeah, those are big factors for for your skin. And and nutrition is you know, eat uh you know, a lot of fish, a lot of uh vegetables, uh so healthy food in general, and uh uh no processed food at all, because you you can see that in your skin. And sometimes people with acne, you know, they're putting products on and products on and trying this and trying that, and it's really all coming from the gut, what we take in. You're you have inflammation inside, and it's gonna show uh into your skin, it's show on your face.

"Cabo" Jim

A lot of things affect our skin. So, especially living here in Southwest Florida, we've got the sea, uh, the sun, the heat, the humidity. What are the biggest drivers of visible aging and what's the simplest fix?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Uh the the simple fix is like you know, sun protection. You have to prevent actually your skin from from being burned and being too much in the sun. Um, you know, it's a little bit uh controversial because I also like your skin to have some some sun. You know, you need your vitamin D. But I would say most of the time, 15 minutes in the morning when the sun rises, the sun doesn't have you know the uh the rays that are damaging your skin, or actually when the sun goes down 15, you know, 15 minutes at night. And then during the day, if you're outside, you know, you have to use some protection. So because that will damage the skin uh the most is the sun.

Resetting An Overworked Skin Barrier

"Cabo" Jim

So talking about damage, how can someone tell if their skin is over-treated or their barriers wrecked? And and what's your reset plan for that?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, most of the time when the skin is over-treated, you see redness, you see the very they're very sensitive. So uh we really would say then we're gonna take everything away and we start with one product at a time for very gentle products and bring in one product at a time so that they are not, you know, because if you put too much on and they don't know what is really giving them the overreaction or over-treatment, you don't know what you have to take uh out. So most of the time I would say we're just gonna wash and don't put anything on your skin right now, and then we start adding one product at a time for you know, uh less is better, you know, at that point. So for sensitive skin, but uh don't over-treat your skin with adding more and more products, there is no need for that.

At-Home Tools That Don’t Deliver

"Cabo" Jim

So talk about that. You know, the at-home tools, you have things like microcurrent, facial massages, rollers, LED masks. What's legit and what's mostly placebo?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, there is some uh LED light face masks that are good. Uh, you have to see what wavelength they have. I most of the time I have to say, you know, and I had LED masks before myself at home. You you know, you put it on, sometimes it's too heavy, you sit there for 15 minutes, it's annoying. You don't do it every day, so you're not gonna get results. So I got rid of it. So if somebody's asking me about an LED light at home, I would always recommend like a panel. It doesn't have like a, you know, that you can lay under with your face, or you have, you know, pain somewhere else. It's also most of the time with infrared, you can use it for pain issues, you can use it just for as the LED light. It has it's it's it's you can use it for many more things and it's more comfortable. You can just lay on your bed and it's comfortable. You don't need to sit there uh 15 minutes, but if you lay on your bed on your bed 15 minutes a day, you put a LED panel uh on you, it's it's so much, you know, comfort is it's much more, it's better. Uh microcurrent at home, I don't really think it does a lot. Uh, I would not recommend that. I think the output is very low, uh, unless you do it every day. And then if they go with uh an LED light that is very small and you have to do it 15 minutes, you have to do it 15 minutes really in every spot. So I don't really don't recommend that at all. Um I think at home the key thing is a good skincare regimen. And we again we want to keep it as simple as possible. You don't want to make it too complicated.

"Cabo" Jim

So talking about some of those, uh, do collagen supplements help or or what should people be really be looking for?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

I'm not uh a big uh you know component for collagen powders intake. Again, they might have some uh uh you know not so healthy stuff in it, preservatives again. I think again, you know, eat like like omega, uh like fish, eat it, you know, sardines. Uh I think that's much better than than collagen in general. Um you know, there is nothing better than what nature is giving us.

When Claims Are Too Good

"Cabo" Jim

So so what's the biggest red flags in products, clinics, or claims that make you say, run, don't stay away from them?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

I think if it's in anything too good to be true, run. And it's in anything. Yeah, if it's too good to be true, I would never, you know, if it's like, oh, it's you you're gonna see the results tomorrow. There is no quick fix. It's it's consistency, it's your lifestyle, uh, exercising your sleep, you know, not over drinking or not not too much alcohol, you know, socializing. There is no quick fix. So if it's too good to be true,

A 90-Day Plan To Stay You

Dr. Greet Baestaens

run.

"Cabo" Jim

Run, run. So if Elizabeth wants a natural looking, you know, non-procedure approach. What's your simple maybe three-step plan for the next 90 days?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

For the next 90 days, uh, you mean in products or um just what they can do to improve, yeah. Well, you know, I would say for the next 90 days, you know, I would really um recommend the reU, the electrical modulation. So in 90 days, that's about three months, you can get a few in, and then uh we do a skin analysis. You know, it's very personalized, and see what your skin needs on top of it. And I think that is the best combination, good skincare, consistency, and the electrical modulation with a RU device. And in 90 days, you're gonna see an amazing change already. Natural, and you're still gonna look yourself.

"Cabo" Jim

So that's and that's the biggest thing. You know, a lot of people don't look themselves after some of these procedures. No, no, we we want to keep what we look like, right? Yes, yes, yeah. Well, very good. Any last words for our listeners today?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, I would say less is better, you know. You don't wanna you wanna stay looking like yourself, just like you were young. You know, if people uh see you, they want to say, Wow, you look amazing, but they don't want to say like wow, what did you have done? So you don't want to put it out there, you want to look natural, rested, uh looking younger, but being yourself.

"Cabo" Jim

Very good. And if our listeners had questions, how would they go about getting a hold of you?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Well, they can call the center here, Renew YU in Naples, Florida. Our phone number is 239-6823, uh 682-1306. So uh call us and set up a consultation and we will make your personal plan to look the best you can.

"Cabo" Jim

Very good, and thank you for your insight today. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it. Any anything else for our listeners? No, I think you know, less is better, less is better and run from some of that other stuff, right?

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Yeah, it's if it's too good to believe, run. Or too good to be true, run. Yes.

"Cabo" Jim

Dr. Greet, it's been a pleasure. Thank you again, and we'll see you next time. All right.

Dr. Greet Baestaens

Okay, thank you so much, Jim.
