Speaker 1:

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Hey, hey, my entrepreneur friends, how are you doing today? All right, so we're going to do a little delegation series over the next few podcasts related to hiring and delegation.

Speaker 1:

I really want to dive a little bit more into this concept of the art of receiving support of entrepreneurs. Is that our success as small business owners really depends on our ability to delegate. But delegation is so much harder than, or we make it so much harder than it really needs to be, because here's the deal when we hold on to everything, it just isn't a sign of strength. It's really a bottleneck to your own success. So in today's little podcast segment, we're going to talk about the mindset shift that really allows you to receive support abundantly. So delegation becomes second nature, because the truth is, when we embrace support, we don't just free up time, we unlock new levels of creativity, impact and energy.

Speaker 1:

So let's start with a question why do you resist delegation? You can push pause on this podcast at this point, and you can think about that while you drive. You can think about them while you're on the treadmill, while you're on a walk. But there is a reason you resist delegation, and one thing I encourage the people that I work with on this is what is your most consistent story? One that I hear often is I don't know how to do it myself, so why would I ask somebody else?

Speaker 1:

I have to master this first, and what's interesting is that perfectionism is a very common excuse that keeps us small, because then what we do is we do everything. We work on that. We don't do that very well and we burn out because our burnout rate is significantly faster when we don't delegate. So another reason that I hear often is maybe you think no one else can do it as well as you can, or maybe you worry that hiring or outsourcing is a luxury you can't afford. Now remember, I have the hiring return on investment calculator for free. You can go to my website, dotrockconsultingcom and download that and I can walk you through what you can and cannot afford.

Speaker 1:

Because the reality is, from a return on investment standpoint, you doing everything is actually costing you more money than outsourcing would. Moving the needle on things saves us time and energy and it avoids burnout. And also, when we hire support, it's so cool because we have a thought partner in the processes that we're working on. And the reality is is those people that we hire to do bookkeeping, to do our scheduling, actually come up with better ideas than we would ourselves? It's more efficient, it's more effective, but the mindset block around not delegating is something that is one of the biggest reasons women burn out in the home and in the workplace because we don't ask for support enough, and this is part of our wounded feminine energy Thinking that we have to do it all.

Speaker 1:

When it's just not true, we can shift to receiving. Maybe the reason you're not delegating. Could it be that deep down you tie your worth to how much you personally do. I know we do that in our homes. I know that if we feel like we have to be the ones that cook and clean and work and pick up the kids, we're not worthy of love. We're not worthy if we don't do it all. I'm here to tell you though I hate to break it to you, but I'm excited to break it to you these beliefs. They're costing you so much more than you realize.

Speaker 1:

When you don't delegate, you spend time on low impact tasks instead of in your zone of genius. Remember, our zone of genius is this beautiful, beautiful, magical place where we can work for hours and we lose track of time because it's the work we're called to do. It's the work that lights us up and it's easier for us to do that work. You limit your business's growth because you become the ceiling. When you don't delegate, you're putting everything on your plate the ceiling. When you don't delegate, you're putting everything on your plate. When you don't delegate, you burn out, making it harder to lead, create and scale your business. But it's something that you can shift and I encourage you to explore why you haven't.

Speaker 1:

When you shift from abundance mindset with delegation instead of lack, you actually see support as an investment, not as just an expense. And yes, I understand the dollars matter in our businesses. But the number of businesses that close because someone did it by themselves, that number is astronomical. I actually should look up the data on that and share it with you. I will in the next episode. I can't think of the exact percentage, but it's like 87 percent of small businesses own because they're a solopreneur and they didn't outsource at all. No-transcript from lack to abundance. Lack means I can't, I don't have the money, I don't have the time, I'm losing control. When we shift from the lack to abundance mindset with delegation, you start to understand that delegation isn't losing control. It's actually gaining more power. You're actually increasing brain power, there's more ideas on your team and you start to recognize that your highest value isn't in doing, it's in leading. You are actually leading the future of your business and you have the ability to make the bigger moves than you would if you were bogged down doing it all.

Speaker 1:

Here's the thing. It's really easy for businesses to outsource bookkeeping because it scares them. They think if they do it wrong they will pay in taxes. What other things would you get off your plate if you allowed yourself? I encourage people over and over and over to just start a note on your phone or just start a Google document. Every single time you were doing a task you do not enjoy, every single time you're doing a task that takes you longer than you think it should, jot it down. After about a week or two, you will have a job description right there of what you can outsource. There's freedom in writing that down.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying you have to change your story today, but if you start making a list and start thinking of creative ways that you can outsource that, you can manifest the person and the position that you need in order to free yourself to honor your needs. So one of the things I really encourage is, as an entrepreneur, redefine your role. You are the visionary, not the executor of every task. The most successful entrepreneurs delegate before they feel ready because they know that growth demands it. Leaders know that growth demands us to take action before we feel ready. We have to change the story around support.

Speaker 1:

Receiving help is not a weakness, it's wisdom. Look at the most impactful leaders. They have a strong team. They don't bear the burden solo. And finally, I encourage you to practice the art of letting go so that you can practice the art of receiving. Start small, delegate one recurring task this week. Feel the shift. Over time you'll realize that trusting others doesn't diminish your success. It actually amplifies it. Your ability to grow your business is directly tied to your ability to receive support.

Speaker 1:

So ask yourself what's one thing I'm holding on to that I could release today and send me a DM, send me an email. Tell me about the one thing you would release today. Remember, you just don't have to do this alone. We were never meant to do this alone. Remember, you just don't have to do this alone. We were never meant to do this alone. We're really hardwired for human connection and to work in teams.

Speaker 1:

So, and if you don't know who to hire, I have a virtual assistant agency. We're happy to help you find somebody. That's a great fit. I have a success formula on how we pair virtual assistants with entrepreneurs and I am happy to help you find someone. But the real step is in allowing yourself to hire that person, allowing yourself to start letting go of control, and it's not going to happen overnight. I promise you that. And if you think it will, you're going to fail at it. This is something that takes time. This is a muscle that you can grow and lean into and expand, because the muscle will grow big enough to expand your business and you'll be thankful that you did and your spouse will be thankful that you did. All right, wishing you all the best on delegation today and we will be having several more episodes about delegation and hiring and how to truly receive support in an abundant way instead of in this scarcity mindset. Have a great day.
