The Power of Oxygen 1st
When my son was little, I was a single mom who was doing it all alone. I was putting everyone else first and my own needs last. To everyone around me, I was successful but little did they know that my success was tied to pushing, stressing, sleepless nights and early morning workouts pushing my body and my limits to the extreme. Until one day I was flying alone and nearly crashed an airplane and I realized that I needed to take care of my own needs first before anyone else. You see, when you’re a pilot, if you have any issues in the plane, you put on your oxygen mask 1st, not your passengers. They need you to land the plane.
This podcast is all about this journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart… and stepping into them with courage while leaning into, asking for and receiving support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live: a life filled to the brim with epic ADVENTURE.

EP 61: What Self-Love Looks Like During a Hard Reset: Divorce, Healing, and Trusting the Unknown
Raw, real, and unexpectedly powerful—that's what happens when life hands you a hard reset. Fresh from the throes of divorce and nursing my first cold in over a year, I'm sharing the messy truth about what self-love actually looks like during profound transformation.
Remember when I casually told a friend in January that I wanted a full reset? The universe delivered—through divorce, unexpected losses, and a series of closed doors I never saw coming. Now I'm standing in this strange space between what was and what will be, discovering that authentic self-love isn't found in bubble baths or spa treatments, but in the courage to stop forcing old puzzle pieces into a new picture of my life.
The most powerful revelation? Peace doesn't come from holding on; it comes from letting go. Those closed doors aren't rejections—they're redirections. The clarity we desperately crave often arrives not through frantic searching but through rest and patient waiting. When everything familiar crumbles, we discover that healing isn't reaching a finish line but allowing ourselves to be held until we can stand again. If you're navigating your own reset—whether through divorce, career transition, or personal transformation—remember that what's meant for you will find you. Sometimes every door in your life has to close so you'll seek the path you're actually meant to walk.

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, hello my podcast friends. I hope everyone is doing well out there. You can probably hear a little bit in my voice, but I have a cold and it is my first cold in gosh, I don't know. A year and a half, maybe even longer, which is pretty impressive given the divorce and all of the stress, but this one kind of has knocked me out a little bit. So you'll hear it in my voice, but I don't have a lot to talk about today, except that you know, I'm really leaning into this hard reset, really thinking about what is not for us anymore, dominic and I, and what is going to serve us in the future. And it's so interesting because, as the divorce wraps up, it just feels like there's such a clean slate, which is beautiful and scary. And so I'm really thinking about talking about this form of self love, where we lean into the unknown during our resets and remember, self-love is not about a spa day, it's not that bubble bath kind of thing. It's really the kind of love that emerges within us during the middle of our hard resets, and it's raw, it's messy and it's really and it's really real. So for me, you know, my divorce is a clean slate, a reset, and it's one that I directly spoke out loud to a friend January 4th of 2024. I said, dang, you just got a full reset. Man, I would love that.
Speaker 1:And then pieces started falling apart in my life. That gave me this clean reset. That deep down I craved, that deep down I knew was right for us. But I don't would have never predicted the number of dramatic, traumatic things that would have happened in the last year that got us here. But I did ask for this reset and now I'm doing the even harder reset of putting the pieces back together to figure out what we should rebuild in our life. And some days I feel so lost and so broken and I see myself continuing to try to put my old self back together, the old puzzle pieces. But they don't fit anymore Because this last year and a half has really deeply changed me and I'm learning that I have to rest more in order to let the healing happen.
Speaker 1:So there's just so much self-love in the unknown, and what I'm learning about the self-love in this season is that it just isn't about fixing myself, but it's about allowing myself to be new. It's about choosing how I see the world, through both broken eyes and hopeful ones, and it can be both In this time. I crave direction. I want to know where our future is, but I'm seeing that, Instead of knowing where the future is, that closed doors in our present. Those are our direction and they are leading me and Dominic somewhere far greater than I would have ever imagined a week ago, a month ago or a year ago.
Speaker 1:I find that I crave peace, but I've realized that peace doesn't come from holding on. It comes from letting go, from releasing the version of the life I thought I wanted, so I can actually be open to what is ahead. Of course I crave love, but right now, self-love is the foundation. Healing from within is the first step before I can share love with someone else again. This is definitely about trusting the process.
Speaker 1:I really crave clarity, but I am learning that clarity is not always an immediate answer. It's often found in waiting and resting and allowing things to unfold. I crave healing, but healing isn't a finish line. It's in the moments when my friends, my family, my support system hold me up so that I can stand on my own again. I crave wisdom, but life is giving me that through challenges, through heartbreak and through lessons I never wanted but I am grateful for. I don't know what to say other than, most of all, I really crave answers, but I'm learning that answers come in this time of silence, in this deep reset and in these moments when I choose to just trust that things will unfold, that small answers will pop in little breadcrumbs to the path, to our next path, and they are. They're trickling in a little bit for us. Some days I just feel more lost than I do, like I'm on the right path. But I'm on my own path and I do see that we get what we ask for, sometimes in ways we never expected to. Our prayers are really answered, but not quite in the way we envisioned. So if you're walking through a hard reset whether it's divorce, a career change or just a season of deep transformation within yourself I know this for myself and I want to share this with you.
Speaker 1:I think that self-love is in the trust, it is in the release and it is in the knowing. That is what is meant for you will find you, it will not pass you by. Sometimes that means all the doors in our life had to close so that we would seek a different path. I think that's what's happening for myself right now. A lot of doors are closing. It feels like a lot of no's, a lot No's. I never expected Friends. I never thought I'd lose Relationships. I never thought I'd lose. This is not the path I imagined, but I am trusting that the release and the inventory that I'm taking in life right now and in business it will serve the greater good, the greater me, and I'm just leaning into the self-trust of knowing that things will come together the way they're supposed to. So, sometimes, letting go and finding peace within are all that we have to do, and it feels like it's not enough. And it feels like it's not enough, but I think that it is because in this time of rest is when I'm starting to find the new puzzle pieces that will build our future.
