The Power of Oxygen 1st
When my son was little, I was a single mom who was doing it all alone. I was putting everyone else first and my own needs last. To everyone around me, I was successful but little did they know that my success was tied to pushing, stressing, sleepless nights and early morning workouts pushing my body and my limits to the extreme. Until one day I was flying alone and nearly crashed an airplane and I realized that I needed to take care of my own needs first before anyone else. You see, when you’re a pilot, if you have any issues in the plane, you put on your oxygen mask 1st, not your passengers. They need you to land the plane.
This podcast is all about this journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart… and stepping into them with courage while leaning into, asking for and receiving support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live: a life filled to the brim with epic ADVENTURE.

EP 62: Leading Through a Hard Reset: Releasing, Receiving, and Trusting the Evolution of Your Team
Ever felt like your business is forcing you through a hard reset you never asked for? When team members unexpectedly leave, systems break, or roles stop working, it's easy to see these shifts as failures. But what if these uncomfortable changes are actually redirecting you toward greater alignment?
In this deeply personal episode, I share my own journey of navigating unexpected business pivots and team changes. I introduce the concept of "the peanut butter to jelly effect" – that moment when you think you've hired the perfect match for your business, only to discover that letting them go creates space for something even better. Drawing from recent experiences, including a significant "no" that crumbled a vision I had held for years, I reveal how these apparent setbacks opened unexpected doors of opportunity.
As entrepreneurs, we crave control, clarity, and certainty. Yet true leadership isn't about maintaining tight control – it's about having the courage to release what's no longer working and trust that your business is evolving exactly as it should. Whether you're facing hiring challenges, considering restructuring, or navigating leadership shifts, this episode offers a fresh perspective on embracing the unknown. Learn to see closed doors not as failures but as redirection, and discover how pausing to breathe, release, and receive can transform your approach to business evolution.

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Hello, my podcast listeners.
Speaker 1:Okay, this week's Thursday episode is about leading through a hard reset. So we've been talking about hard resets, right, but leading through a hard reset. So we've been talking about hard resets, right, but leading through a hard reset, releasing, receiving and trusting the evolution of your team. So we're going to just keep leading into this concept of the hard reset. But, as we all know, as entrepreneurs, we just crave clarity, control and certainty. Know, as entrepreneurs, we just crave clarity, control and certainty. But what happens when your team and your business and your vision shifts in a way that you just did not expect? What happens when you're faced with a really hard reset, whether you ask for it or you didn't, but it's needed? In this episode we're going to talk about what it means to release whether it's an employee, a role or a structure that just no longer fits and how to receive the unexpected opportunities that come from trusting the evolution of your business and your life. So if you're facing team challenges, hiring challenges, leadership shifts, even career shifts, this conversation will kind of help you dive a little bit deeper into the power of the release and trust and just being in alignment. So welcome. Back to the Power of Oxygen. First, let's talk about this different kind of reset today. Back to the power of oxygen. First let's talk about this different kind of reset today. That kind of happens in our businesses, the kind that just shakes up your team, your structure and sometimes really our confidence as the leader of all of this.
Speaker 1:If you've been in business long enough, you know this. The team you start with is not the team you will probably continue to grow with, and the systems that once worked will begin to break and the people that you thought would be with you forever move on and sometimes the ones you thought you had to let go of come back in really unexpected ways. I call this the peanut butter to the jelly effect, where you think that you hired the peanut butter to the jelly effect, where you think that you hired the peanut butter to your jelly, the avocado to your toast, but really you're going to have to lose them and something better will come, maybe even almond butter to your toast, to your jelly. I've been there, I've held on too tightly to my team members trying to fix and shift things in ways that weren't movable, and I've learned that leadership really, really deeply true leadership, aligned leadership, isn't just about building. It is really about releasing and receiving, releasing what no longer fits. I really do know what it feels like to crave direction. As you know, with the year I've been through, my business has shifted in so many ways. When we crave direction, we want answers on who we should hire and who we should let go of and how exactly to move forward. But I have learned, just like in my personal life, that sometimes closed doors are direction, sometimes when someone leaves or the role isn't quite working or just takes too much to make it happen with that person. The structure needs to change. It's just not a failure, it's actually redirection. And while I crave stability in my business, I've found that real stability doesn't force things from I mean sorry. It doesn't come from forcing things to really stay the same. It comes from trusting that when things do fall away team members even it makes space for what's next.
Speaker 1:In my business I crave control, but, as we know, leadership is not about control. It's about clarity, and clarity comes when we let go of what is not working, even when that's really uncomfortable. We just kind of start seeing these little breadcrumbs and we let ourselves see that it's not working with that person. That role we thought would be perfect isn't working. It's not always about revamping it all. Sometimes it's about releasing it and receiving what we didn't working. It's not always about revamping at all. Sometimes it's about releasing it and receiving what we didn't expect.
Speaker 1:I've learned that we don't always get what we want in the way we think we should. Like the dream hire you thought would change everything. Maybe it's not actually the right fit or that position you fought to keep in your business. Maybe it's actually holding your business back. That unexpected departure of someone else leaving maybe it's creating space for something even better. I've used I used to really resist these changes in my business, but now I'm seeing that receiving these changes requires trust Trust that the right people will come at the right time, and trust that sometimes letting go is the best way to grow. So this is about leading ourselves and our businesses through the unknown, and while I crave clarity in my life and in business, it's not always about knowing exactly what's right. It's about being willing to wait, to listen, to rest and to make some space. And yes, I crave success in my business, but sometimes real success isn't just about hiring the right people. It's about building the team that aligns with your vision, and sometimes that alignment requires us to let go to really be able to be in those successful spaces.
Speaker 1:And during my hard reset in my business am really craving answers, just like I am in my personal life. But I am learning that those answers still come in silence, in the pause and in the deep trust that my business is evolving exactly how it should be. I got a really big no in my business last week and I did not see it coming. I thought that it was the big shift that we were moving towards. I thought it was the thing that was waiting to fall into alignment for years now. It was a vision I had seen and it crumbled, and so I could either sit in that sadness and destruction or I could just see it as doors opening, really wide open French doors. Yeah, some smaller doors closed, but French doors were opened into even more opportunities and possibilities that maybe I don't see yet, that I do believe can manifest and fall into my life and my business.
Speaker 1:So I think the reality is is, if you're navigating a hard reset in your business or in your career that's a hiring change, restructuring, leadership shift, stepping into the unknown I just encourage you to keep taking deep breaths, Release what's not working, the little things. Allow yourself to trust yourself when something feels like it's not working, so that you can receive what is coming and trust that this reset is happening to you, is not just happening to you, it's happening for you. I really have seen this true in my business that trusting what's happening, that this is happening for me, is the clearest answer I have in the future. When I look back, I'm like wait, that didn't work so that something else could. It didn't happen to me. I wasn't the victim. It happened for me and we just have to keep leaning into this release and receiving of what is for our highest good. So that's all I have for you today.
