The Power of Oxygen 1st
When my son was little, I was a single mom who was doing it all alone. I was putting everyone else first and my own needs last. To everyone around me, I was successful but little did they know that my success was tied to pushing, stressing, sleepless nights and early morning workouts pushing my body and my limits to the extreme. Until one day I was flying alone and nearly crashed an airplane and I realized that I needed to take care of my own needs first before anyone else. You see, when you’re a pilot, if you have any issues in the plane, you put on your oxygen mask 1st, not your passengers. They need you to land the plane.
This podcast is all about this journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart… and stepping into them with courage while leaning into, asking for and receiving support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live: a life filled to the brim with epic ADVENTURE.
The Power of Oxygen 1st
EP 75: Table for One, Confidence for Thousands
Imagine slipping into your favorite outfit, making a dinner reservation for one, and walking into a restaurant with the confidence of someone who's completely comfortable in their own presence. This isn't the beginning of a sad story—it's a revolutionary act of self-love that can transform your relationship with yourself.
In this soul-nourishing episode, I take you on a sensory journey through the power of dating yourself. Through vivid storytelling and guided visualization, we explore what it means to treat ourselves with the same care, attention, and celebration we'd offer someone we deeply cherish. Together, we reimagine solo experiences not as consolation prizes when other plans fall through, but as intentional acts of self-honor that deepen our connection with ourselves.
The magic of self-dates goes far beyond enjoying a meal alone or spending time in your own company. When we demonstrate to ourselves that we deserve celebration and joy simply for existing, we establish new standards for what we'll accept from others. These solo adventures change what we tolerate, what we attract, and what we believe is possible for our lives. Whether you're single, married, or anywhere in between, this practice isn't about relationship status—it's about claiming your worth and becoming your own "fairy godmother."
Ready to transform your relationship with yourself? Listen now, and discover how booking that table for one might be the most powerful date you'll ever experience. And be sure to check out my new Hiring Return on Investment Calculator, a free tool designed to help you make data-driven decisions about seeking support in your personal and professional life. Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, hello my podcast listeners. I hope you're doing so well out there.
Speaker 1:I was just thinking of this little concept. I went on a date with myself it was really impromptu last Friday night and I went and sat at the bar because I didn't make reservations for myself. But I really started fantasizing about what it would have been like if I had. I sat at the bar by myself, next to another gentleman who was also eating alone and other people next to me, but I didn't scroll on my phone. I just enjoyed the atmosphere. I ate my pasta, I had a glass of wine ever so rare for me and I sat back and reflected on my week and thought about my week forward. And again, it was an impromptu moment that I had to myself because Dominic had last minute plans with a friend. I had spent the last two hours working in my office later than normal and it just felt amazing. But I started fantasizing. To the last time I made dinner reservations for myself.
Speaker 1:So today, on the podcast, we are going on a date. On the podcast, we are going on a date and, as you know, we're going on a date with ourselves. And no, this is not a tender match. This is not a date with our to-do list. This is not even a date with our dogs. This one is with you and friend. It's going to be fabulous, okay. So close your eyes. Well, unless you're driving. If you're driving, please just lean into this vision with me. So close your eyes.
Speaker 1:Imagine it's a Friday evening, you've just finished your last Zoom call or your last work task and you've closed your laptop. You stretch out and, instead of spiraling into Netflix and leftovers or ordering pizza, you smile and you say out loud tonight I'm taking myself out. You slip into your favorite sexy outfit, the one that hugs you just right. Nope, not the practical jeans, the other one, you know the one. Maybe it's that silky wrap dress with those boss boots that make you feel like Beyonce in a boardroom. You put lipstick on your hair, is doing exactly what you want. You look in the mirror and you think, dang, I'd date me, because that's what you're doing.
Speaker 1:You open the front door and the night greets you like an old friend. There's a dinner reservation waiting. Yes, it's the one you made for yourself at the beginning of the week and you drive yourself there and you walk into the restaurant like you own the place, because you kind of do, at least in this moment. The host gives you a slightly surprised look and says table for one. And you respond with a soft smile, a soft confident smile. Yes, it's just me. Because you're holding yourself like the goddess or king that you are.
Speaker 1:You sit down and, instead of reaching for your phone to scroll aimlessly, you pull out that book you've been meaning to read, the one that's been gathering dust on your nightstand. Or maybe you pull out a journal or a poetry collection. You order what you really want. No negotiating, no calorie math. Maybe you order an appetizer, a salad, dinner and dessert, but you savor each bite like it's your last meal on earth. And dessert, oh, my friend, absolutely Get the dessert.
Speaker 1:Midway through the meal, your server pours you a glass of wine, or maybe a sparkling mocktail with a sprig of rosemary and a twist of lime, and you raise your glass to no one and to everyone To me. You whisper, and it's not sad, it's sacred. You're no longer waiting for someone to see your worth. You're no longer waiting for someone to see your worth, nor living it. And you're not hoping someone else will spoil you. You've already figured out how to be your own damn fairy godmother.
Speaker 1:You take your time, you linger, you breathe. You don't rush to fill silence. You breathe. You don't rush to fill silence. You're not performing your being fully, softly, boldly.
Speaker 1:And after dinner you walk home under the moonlight or you walk to your car. Maybe you put on your favorite playlist and strut like it's your personal catwalk. Maybe you stop for a scoop of gelato, because why the heck not? When you get home, you light a candle, you slip into cozy pajamas and you thank yourself for showing up, you realize something magical happened tonight. You didn't just go on a date, you deepened your relationship with the very most important person in your life you, and that kind of self-love. It changes everything. It changes what we tolerate, it changes what we attract. It changes what we believe is possible.
Speaker 1:So here's your invitation Take yourself on a date, not because you're single Maybe you're married. You're not taking yourself on a date because you're bored, but because you are worthy of being celebrated by you and for you. So please let this be your reminder. You don't need a plus one to feel like royalty. You are the main event in your life every single day. Go boldly, be you, boldly, hold her hand. So now go light that candle, book that table, order all of the creme brulee because you, my dear one, are the queen or the king, or a magnificent mythical creature, and your presence is reason enough to celebrate. Until next time, remember oxygen first, always.

You're probably thinking what the heck is a return on investment? Well, that's when we take our revenue minus our expenses and it calculates how much return we get by investing in something. I've applied this very masculine concept to hiring into the art of receiving support. And so what this little tool does that you can just go and download from my webpage, dot rock consulting dot com. What you can do is go and download this and use Curiosity. 15 minutes total of your time.
