The Power of Oxygen 1st
When my son was little, I was a single mom who was doing it all alone. I was putting everyone else first and my own needs last. To everyone around me, I was successful but little did they know that my success was tied to pushing, stressing, sleepless nights and early morning workouts pushing my body and my limits to the extreme. Until one day I was flying alone and nearly crashed an airplane and I realized that I needed to take care of my own needs first before anyone else. You see, when you’re a pilot, if you have any issues in the plane, you put on your oxygen mask 1st, not your passengers. They need you to land the plane.
This podcast is all about this journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart… and stepping into them with courage while leaning into, asking for and receiving support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live: a life filled to the brim with epic ADVENTURE.

EP 78: You're Not Broken, You're Becoming - Leadership After the Storm
Sometimes the greatest business transformations emerge from our deepest personal challenges. In this raw and heartfelt episode, I open up about finding alignment and joy amidst the rebuilding phase after my divorce – a process that has been simultaneously devastating and liberating.
This experience became what I now recognize as a sacred course correction, clarifying everything about my business and life. My values, leadership style, vision – all of it underwent profound transformation. The powerful realization? What you do in life is exactly how you do business. When we make personal decisions from fear, obligation, or autopilot, these patterns inevitably manifest in our companies through our team dynamics, offers, pricing, and boundaries.
The moment I chose to correct my personal path, I found the permission to realign my business too. Now, I'm no longer focused on scaling for scaling's sake – I'm building from joy and alignment. This shift has magnetically drawn me toward other leaders who've had the rug pulled out from under them, those who've navigated darkness and emerged with newfound clarity.
Whether you're recovering from burnout, going through a relationship transition, or feeling misaligned with your current business direction, remember: you're not broken, you're becoming. Sometimes our personal reckonings become the greatest gifts our businesses will ever receive. Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, hello my business podcast friends.
Speaker 1:Okay, today is just about the rebuild. It's really in the rise. You know I'm happier than I've ever been and I'm still rebuilding. I'm still probably down here on my knees rebuilding, but if you were to biopsy the core of who I am, I am happy and, as you know, as founders of businesses, you know what it's like to hold it all together, to keep the face on, to lead through the storm. But sometimes the storm hits our personal lives and it impacts our businesses, and so I just think one of the things I've been able to do through this divorce as devastating as it has been it's been liberating. It's become a sacred course correction that clarified everything in my business and in my life my values, my leadership style, my vision, my joy, and I'm now building from a place of alignment instead of pressure, and I'm magnetized to leaders that have also walked through the dark. So today I just want to talk a little bit about this fact. I'm the happiest I've ever been and, yeah, I'm still in the storm and things are still really hard, but I've just walked through one of the hardest seasons of my life and I'm happy and I'm still walking it. Yes, leaving my marriage brought joy, but mostly in the time, pain, trauma and a thousand questions. But deeper than that, it brought clarity, alignment, and alignment led to joy and alignment led to joy. I've been really happy on this path since I made the course correction and stepped off of that path. Yep, it cracked me open in a way I never expected, and suddenly the parts of my business that didn't fill a line well, they've become non-negotiable to change.
Speaker 1:Because here's the truth what you do in life is how you do business. If you're making personal decisions from a place of fear, obligation or autopilot, it will eventually show up in your team, your offers, your pricing and your time boundaries. And when I finally chose I to correct my personal life, it gave me permission to correct my business too. So I'm traveling right now with my son and creating this little bit of time to reconnect to who I am outside of the grind, and I'm realizing something just so important I love the person I've become and I'm building a company that matches her. I'm no longer interested in just scaling. I want to scale what feels aligned. I want a business to be a reflection of my joy, not just my hustle. And you know who I'm most drawn to these days Leaders who've had the rug pulled out from under them, the ones who've seen the dark. Now, whether you're recovering from burnout or a breakup, or just feeling misaligned with your company or firing all your clients, I want you to know this You're not broken, You're becoming, and sometimes our personal reckonings are the best gift our business will ever receive. So here's your oxygen first reminder today Let yourself rebuild from joy. Let yourself scale what actually fits and know that, even if the change feels scary, alignment is always worth it. So thank you for being here today. Keep breathing, keep building, keep choosing you keep traveling, keep learning from those leaders who've had it all burned down, sending you love and light today.
