EP 84: Don't Wait Until You're Drowning To Breathe

Dot Rock

Struggling to keep up with the endless demands of entrepreneurship? You're not alone. In this powerful episode, we dive into the heart of what truly holds business owners back—not lack of hustle, but lack of support.

As entrepreneurs, we often wear 47 hats while eyeing that 48th one, convinced that delegating is harder than doing it ourselves. This deeply ingrained belief system doesn't just exhaust us—it fundamentally limits our businesses and our lives. When you're the only one holding everything up, your breathing gets shallow, your vision foggy, and creativity vanishes. You're not building something sustainable; you're building a prison of your own making.

What would change if you allowed yourself to be truly supported? Even hiring someone part-time to handle just three things can transform your entire nervous system. Delegating tasks you dread brings creativity back online. Letting your team truly own their roles builds trust and momentum. The barrier isn't knowing what to delegate—it's giving yourself permission to be supported in the first place.

Take a moment now to ask yourself: What am I doing that drains me? What would I let go of if I knew I couldn't fail? Where am I holding onto control out of fear? Your answers might just lead to the breakthrough your business needs. Remember, you don't need to prove your worth through exhaustion. You can choose to receive support before everything falls apart.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, hello my pod squad friends. Happy business day podcast.

Speaker 1:

Here we are at the Power of Oxygen First, where we talk about the intersection of purpose and peace and putting yourself first so that you can actually lead and live with intention Because that's why we own our own businesses so that we can live with intention and really kind of control the outcome of our story of where we spend our time. So today I just want to speak directly to all of you business owners out there, the founders, the entrepreneurs and the ones wearing 47 hats and still thinking about adding just another hat. Stop doing that. Take off the hats, my friends. I see you. You're doing everything, and not just because you have to, but because the story you tell yourself is that it is easier than explaining it to someone else. Or the story you're telling yourself is that it feels overwhelming to hire more help, or because you don't quite trust that anyone else will do it the way you do it. And let me tell you something I have learned again and again and helped entrepreneur after entrepreneur with you cannot build something sustainable if you're the only one holding it up. Build something sustainable if you're the only one holding it up. Even the strongest of us, we need support. I'm saying that as a solo parent who runs a business with multiple business lines. We need support. So this episode isn't just about delegation, it's about oxygen. It's about oxygen first, right, because when you're doing it all, your breath gets too shallow and your vision then gets foggy and you stop creating and you just start surviving.

Speaker 1:

There's this myth in entrepreneurship that asking for help means you're weak or lazy or just not cut out for it. But what if asking support actually means you're wise. What if being supported is the most powerful business strategy you haven't yet fully embraced? So I want to offer this shift today. Think about someone you love Maybe it's a friend who's in a deep season of grief grief or going through something just so heavy, like dominic and I in the hospital last week. You wouldn't ask for me to write you a to-do list before you helped, right, right, you just show up. You just show up, you just do the dishes, you just get the groceries, you just hold space. And what if I offered you this twist that you could offer yourself that very same compassion and action in your business? So what if, instead of saying I'll hire when I have time or I'll delegate when it's perfect, you simply said I need help and I am allowed to receive support? Because here's the truth If you're doing work that isn't in your zone of genius, if you're doing work that isn't in your zone of genius, if you're doing work that drains you, if you're constantly in the weeds instead of holding the vision, if you're emotionally exhausted from trying to carry your business instead of leading it, you're not broken, you're not even burnt out.

Speaker 1:

You're just unsupported, and being unsupported is fixable. Hiring someone, even part-time, to take three things off your plate can change your entire nervous system Delegating tasks that you dread. Guess what? It brings you creativity and it brings it back online. It flows back into you. It's like pouring light right on your heart, letting your team truly own their roles. That builds trust, capacity and momentum. And heck, your team can solve problems that you wouldn't have because they look at it from a different angle.

Speaker 1:

Give them the power to do so, but first you have to let go of the idea that you should be able to do it all. You don't need to prove your worth through exhaustion. You don't need to wait until burnout forces your hand. You can choose to receive, until burnout forces your hand. You can choose to receive support before everything falls apart. Take a breath right Like, think about it Before things fall apart. You can choose this. You can choose to receive support, just like.

Speaker 1:

Right this moment, you can take a breath with me. You can pause. You can inhale, exhale and ask yourself what am I doing right now that I don't need to be doing? What am I doing right now that drains me? What would I let go of if I knew I couldn't fail? Where am I holding onto control because I'm afraid to let go? Who could I train, trust or hire to give myself more space? And here's the really big one what would I change in my business if I allowed myself to be held and supported? I'll say it again you don't have to do it all, you just have to be willing, be really willing to receive so today.

Speaker 1:

Consider this your permission slip to ask for help, to hire the virtual assistant, to delegate that task and to rest without guilt and to build a business that doesn't run on burnout, because that, my friends, is the power of Oxygen. First, we don't wait until we're drowning to breathe. We pause now, we receive now and we build with support now. And if this resonates with you, please think about why you haven't hired support. And if you need help, I am here to help you. I am happy to help you. I have a team of virtual assistants I can connect you with. We have a virtual assistant agency team. We've got people to help you. I've got proven methods, systems, ways to streamline your processes and help you learn to delegate and hire right the first time, so that it doesn't feel like an endless cycle. Anyway, I'm here. Feel free to reach out if you need anything. But until next time, remember you're allowed to be supported, you're allowed to lead with ease and your business gets to breathe too, sending light and love on this beautiful day.
