EP 87: How To Release What No Longer Serves You

Dot Rock

Letting go is never just about the physical act—it's about honoring what was while creating space for what's next. In this deeply personal episode, I open up about the emotional journey of selling the home that held me through divorce, single motherhood, and profound personal transformation.

The house that witnessed my son's childhood, epic nerf gun battles, and my own rebirth has been on the market for eight weeks, bringing up feelings of frustration mixed with the understanding that divine timing works in mysterious ways. Rather than pushing against this resistance, I turned to one of my most trusted practices: writing a release letter during the full moon.

I share the intimate letter I wrote to my former home—expressing gratitude for its sanctuary, acknowledging the growth it witnessed, and consciously releasing any lingering energy that might be blocking its transition to new owners. This ritual became more than just closure; it transformed into a sacred practice of honoring a space that was "never just a house" but a critical part of my becoming.

We all face chapters ending in our lives—relationships that transform, spaces we outgrow, versions of ourselves we need to leave behind. Creating intentional rituals around these transitions can help us process grief, establish closure, and open ourselves to what's waiting on the other side. How might you honor the chapters you're closing in your own life?

Don't miss my next episode where I'll share the companion letter to my future home—the space I'm calling in with intention and openness. Speaker 1:

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, good morning my pod squad friends. I hope that everyone is just doing so well out there, out there Today.

Speaker 1:

I just wanted to quickly share a little bit about. You know where I'm at and what's going on. Essentially, I have determined it is time to sell Dominic and I's old home and purchase a new home, and there is a lot of grief in that and a lot of release in that, and so I just wanted to step into this in the way that supported me the most, and typically one of the ways that I do so is to write letters. I really love full moon releases, and so I will write letters and burn them, and usually I don't share what's in those letters. There'll be two X's or people or places or clients that I feel the need to release, and I write the letter and I burn it, and it helps me step forward in my life. And so this time I wrote a letter to release our home, and the house has been on the market for a little while now like almost eight weeks I think and I'm getting frustrated. It feels like it's never going to sell in so many ways. Yet I know, in the right timing to the right buyer for the right price, it absolutely will, and that'll be very soon. So I wanted to share that letter because the reality is it was not just any house. That home held me through my first divorce from Dominic's dad when Dom was really little. We moved in when he was three. It held me through that divorce, it held me through that healing. It held me through learning to navigate motherhood with career and growth, and it was such a sacred place it it was messy. We remodeled the entire thing and letting go of that is a really beautiful chapter about becoming. You know, I ended up remarrying and moving out of that home and I still own that home and it has been a source of deep abundance for my life monetarily and just the healing that occurred in that place. And so it's not just a closing ritual. It's more than a full moon release. It's kind of the final surrender to write this letter and it was really emotional and grounding for me to do so. So here's the letter.

Speaker 1:

Dear sweet home, thank you. From the moment I stepped through your doors in 2016, you wrapped my son and me in comfort, safety and sanctuary. You gave us a place to land when the world felt heavy and a place to rise when we needed healing. You have been more than walls and a roof. You have been refuge, rebirth and radiant love. Together, we poured care and intention in every inch of you. We ripped down so many walls. We rebuilt our lives in our hearts and inside of you. Through every remodel and every memory you held us as we grew into what we needed to become. Friends were welcomed, laughter echoed through the rooms, epic nerf gun wars happened, healing happened in every corner and abundance found its way into our lives. Through you, you served your sacred purpose with grace. I will never forget those knocks on the door when people would say I'm here. Has the nerf gun war started yet? The nightly nerf gun where we chased my little boy all around and giggled and laughed.

Speaker 1:

But now it's time. It is time for you to bless someone new, someone ready to receive your warmth, your light, your love, your healing. I trust that the right buyer, one aligned with your spirit and your history, will find you. Now I release any lingering energy that does not serve your highest good or mine. I clear away the blame, the projections, the discomfort with change, the drama with change, the drama and anything unspoken that might be lingering. That energy is not mine to carry or hold anymore. I thank the earth for holding the Saint Joseph I placed as a symbol of trust and divine timing in the ground. And with this full moon I call upon the light to clear the path for you to be sold with ease, joy and flow. I release you with love. I release the people connected to the past with forgiveness. I release the chapter with peace. You were never just a house. You were part of our becoming and I thank you for being our home, and with a full and grateful heart, I now make space for our new home. May it meet us with the same abundance, love and safety you offered. And so it is. So, my friends, I encourage you if there is a chapter in your life that you are closing, that you have final weeds to pull, maybe write it a letter On my next episode. I'll read you the letter to our next home that I am envisioning and welcoming with open arms. But until then, this is just a gentle reminder that rituals really help us move through change. We really have to learn to trust divine timing and feel what's next, and we have to let go of the spaces and relationships and old versions of ourselves in order to navigate our next life transitions, sending you all light and love and peace and joy, wherever you may be.

Speaker 1:

Oh my gosh, am I excited to share this new hiring return on investment calculator freebie that I have been working on for about six months. You're probably thinking what the heck is a return on investment? Well, that's when we take our revenue minus our expenses and it calculates how much return we get by investing in something. I've applied this very masculine concept to hiring into the art of receiving support, and so what this little tool does that you can just go and download from my webpage, dotbrockconsultingcom. What you can do is go and download this and use curiosity 15 minutes total of your time. Go through this tool and it's going to help you make a little bit of data driven decision-making around hiring and why it can help you in either your personal or professional life. You don't have to be an entrepreneur, but you could be an entrepreneur and it's going to help you understand the impact hiring or delegating more or handing off more tasks, or even not spending any money on this and simply asking for more support how that could change your life.
