EP 91: Writing Letters to New Beginnings

Dot Rock

Have you ever paused during a major life transition to really honor what it means to you? In this heart-opening episode, I share a deeply personal ritual that's helping my family navigate our move from Durango to Fort Collins, Colorado.

The decision to leave our home wasn't made lightly. After feeling increasingly unsafe in Durango, we embarked on a search for a place where we could rebuild and feel secure again. What drew us to Fort Collins wasn't entirely logical—every time I visited, I felt "more light pour into my heart" and possibilities opening before me. Sometimes our most important decisions come from this intuitive knowing rather than perfect logical analysis.

I share the complete letter I wrote to our new home, setting intentions for the space we're creating together. "May this home be a magnet for good humans. May it always feel safe to be our full selves here. May every door we open be a path to connection." This practice transformed what could have been simply stressful into something meaningful and sacred.

Moving represents closing one chapter and opening another. As I pack boxes in Durango, I'm filled with anticipation for what awaits—Dominic learning Latin at his new school, running in our yard with our dog Obi, and my heart perhaps opening to love again someday. I hope this episode inspires you to bring intention to your own transitions, whatever they may be.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, this is the Power of Oxygen First podcast, and I'm your host, dot Rock. I am an entrepreneur, a mom, a stepmom and a scaling consultant who is obsessed with the art of hiring, support and that dirty word we call delegation. I'm a recovering perfectionist who pushed my body and my limits to the extreme until one fateful day I learned that, just like pilots, I needed to take care of myself first. This podcast is all about the journey to healing, to getting clear on the desires of your heart, stepping into them with courage and leaning into and asking for support. I hope you feel inspired to do less, to follow your passions and infuse them into your daily life and truly claim the life you were meant to live. Well, hello my pod squad friends, all right, as you listen to this episode, I am days away from moving into my new home, and so I wanted to share a little oxygen first ritual with you that I have, and that is I've shared this before I told you about. I wrote a letter to Dominic and I's home in Durango, which, as I record this, hasn't yet sold, but I know in my heart that it absolutely will, at the right time, to the right buyers, for the right price and for now we are celebrating moving into our new home and that'll be really soon once you listen to this episode. So I did the same thing and I paused and I wrote a letter to our new home. And I just want to step into that space with deep intention, with love and just with my whole heart forward. And so I paused and wrote a letter and so I'm going to read it to you, whole heart forward. And so I paused and wrote a letter and so I'm going to read it to you. Maybe it'll spark something within you about something that's about to happen for you in your future. But here is my letter to our new home. Spoiler alert by the time you listen to this you will realize we are moving to Fort Collins, colorado. It is about seven hours away from Durango. Durango is in southwest Colorado and Fort Collins is up in the metropolitan Denver area. It is a place we are moving I don't know kind of a process of elimination, I'd say.

Speaker 1:

For me, what happened is I knew it was time to leave Durango, like with all of my heart it was time, and just the doors kept closing and things kept happening and rumors and we just didn't feel physically or emotionally safe here anymore, and so I started looking. This is like a year ago. I started looking like what would it look like if we moved? And I kept looking at different places and I knew in my heart I kept wanting to stay in Colorado. It kept coming back to Colorado, colorado, colorado, colorado. And then we just started looking.

Speaker 1:

Anytime we went to Denver, anytime we traveled, we just looked at homes wherever we went and we pretended like we were moving there and it ended up that Fort Collins was the place for us. Now we have a couple of friends there, but not that many. My uncle is about an hour away, but it just felt like I wouldn't have to travel as much for Dominic's sports. I could recapture some time of living was cheaper there, it was pretty close to a major airport in Denver, but it also gave us like the smaller town feel and mainly the thing that kept pointing me there was every time I was there I felt more light pour into my heart, I felt more open and I felt these possibilities, and so I honestly cannot give you an actual reason as to why we have chosen Fort Collins, colorado, as our new home. I did a ton of research. The schools are really great there. Dominic will get to go to a school where he learns Latin. He has more sports and youth sports options there. It gave us, you know, the freedom to rebuild a life without knowing anybody, and that felt really like freedom and something that we needed. And so we're moving there.

Speaker 1:

And since we decided to move there, we've rekindled with a couple of friends that live up there and we're excited about this new life. But it wasn't a decision I came to lightly and in fact was one that was exhausting in so many ways. But here we are moving, so I'm so ridiculously excited while I'm packing here, still in Durango. But I wanted to read you the letter that I wrote to the new house. So, dear new home, we've been dreaming of you. We saw you before we ever stepped through your doors the open space nearby, the trees swaying in quiet invitation, the stillness of the fishing hole just down the way. We felt your pull across miles, months and seasons.

Speaker 1:

And now here we are, ready to begin this next beautiful chapter together. You are more than a house to us. You are a place of expansion, a place where laughter will echo, where friendships will deepen and where the hearts of teenagers and neighbors alike will find warmth and welcome. You are a new root system for us to grow into, where joy, safety and deep belonging can thrive. We bring with us love. We bring with us memories from our past home and the strength we've cultivated along the way. We bring with us vision for bonfires and breakfast tables, for movie nights and quiet early mornings and for healing and for dreaming big.

Speaker 1:

To the land you rest upon, thank you To the walls that behold our stories. Welcome To the people we will soon meet and share life with. We can't wait to know you. We promise to fill this home with honesty, with care, with curiosity and with joy. We will honor its spirit and make space for play, for rest, for celebration and for stillness. We will honor its spirit and make space for play, for rest, for celebration and for stillness. We will honor the seasons and trust the timing. We will love boldly within these walls. May this home be a magnet for good humans. May it always feel safe to be our full selves here. May every door we open be a path to connection. May this home bless every soul who enters. We are here, we are ready and we are so grateful, with whole, full hearts and wide open arms. Welcome home, love, dot, dom and Obi. And so it is.

Speaker 1:

That's the letter and that's what I'm feeling deep in my heart right now this intensely deep gratitude for this ridiculously beautiful home we're moving into and the closing of a really long chapter and the opening of what I hope is a bright and beautiful new chapter of our lives. And, uh well, just so much unknown. You know, you think about this move to Fort Collins and I think of Dominic thriving. I think of Dominic learning and growing into being like a full man and learning to drive there, and I'll be running in the yard and I think of my heart opening to love again someday and all the blessings that are about to meet us in this beautiful new space. So I just wanted to share. That's where we're at and I hope pretty soon I'll be recording in my new cute office with a blue ceiling, with a wood wall and just creating a new space and future. So, sending you so much love and light and oxygen first as you navigate whatever part of life you are in, I hope that you can pause and be intentional and take really good care of yourself out there, sending light and love oh my gosh, am I excited to share this new hiring return on investment calculator freebie that I have been working on for about six months.

Speaker 1:

You're probably thinking what the heck is a return on investment? Well, that's when we take our revenue minus our expenses and it calculates how much return we get by investing in something. I've applied this very masculine concept to hiring and to the art of receiving support, and so what this little tool does that you can just go and download from my webpage, dot brockconsultingcom. What you can do is go and download this and use curiosity 15 minutes total of your time. Go through this tool and it's gonna help you make a little bit of data driven decision making around hiring and why it can help you in either your personal or professional life.
