Quality of Life Update? Or Complete BS in Dead by Daylight? Ep 44
In episode 44, we discuss how "Quality of Life" probably means "keep it imbalanced and make killers miserable".
Festivities include:
• Anti-Killer Nerfs: Fixing hit validation UI bugs so the game finally stops running like it’s powered by a dying hamster—but don’t expect any real balance for killer mains.
• The Anti-Italian Agenda: Where’s our ghostface with a pinstripe suit? BHVR’s half-assed cosmetic fixes only prove they still hate proper Italian representation.
• Matchmaking Mayhem: Explosive debates on how survivor perks and four-stack flashlight squads are rigging the game, leaving killer mains fighting in a rigged gulag.
• Lazy “Quality of Life” BS: A whole year of updates that are nothing more than fancy words to cover up BHVR’s unwillingness to fix what matters.

If they're fixing hit validation UI bugs in the game not running like it's powered by a dying hamster, then yeah, I'll take that.
Speaker 2:Funny Toxic teachers capping them softly. Teaching fools taking them to school. Toxic teachers capping them softly. Survivors, get out of the way. Capping them softly gonna make you pay Survivors. You better get to class. Toxic's gonna kick that ass.
Speaker 3:Oh, check it out everybody. I am here, the Toxic Teacher I got. Some of my sounds are fixed, some of them are fixed I don't know if they're all fixed and the audio. I'm working on that. I think we're good Guys. You are here with Camping them Softly. I think is the name of the podcast right. It's a DBD podcast. We do DBD things here. I don't know if you are new. Thank you for coming by. If you are old, like me, thank you for staying by, I guess.
Speaker 3:So we're at episode number 44, I think we are 44 episodes old at this point and we've got actually something big to talk about. We've got two things. Big Number one I was talking to the AI, the smartest AI model I can find. I was saying, hey, I want to get my podcast bigger. Here's all of my statistics. I've ever had Search everything on the web. Find me growth opportunities for a DVD podcast. What do you recommend? What do you want me to do, or what do you think I should do to grow? And guess what it says. It says you're great, you're hilarious, you're amazing, give me a hell. Yeah. But it does say one thing. It says most people don't want a fucking hour and a half podcast where you go off on tangents that aren't related to Dead by Daylight. Stay on topic. Make them a bit shorter, because people don't have that attention span, especially in the wintertime, when content is kind of down and people have got other shit going on. So that's what we're going to try today.
Speaker 3:We're at one fucking minute, we're at two minutes. I'm going to try to keep it at 30 if possible, but we've got a big one here. We've got a big, huge fucking thing. We have the quality of life update. Have you guys heard of this thing? I don't know if you guys heard of this thing.
Speaker 2:What the hell is this?
Speaker 3:crap. I don't know if you've heard of this quality of life, but what this is, what it looks like to me is they are actually kind of looking at game health now and saying we're pumping out so much content, so many killers, so much of everything that we're not taking the time to get the base experience where it needs to be Now in real terms. You would think, oh, this is a great thing, because they needed to do this for a while. Right, they should have done this 10 years ago. But the question is, what are these quality of life updates that they're talking about?
Speaker 3:Okay, so I've brought in my friend who everybody hates, the lovely Nicky Ai Dente. He is our mafioso co-host from little Italy. He is an expert, dead by daylight player and hater of all things. British. Nicky, can you let me pull him up here? He's thinking real quick because there's a lot to think about.
Speaker 3:So let me go over this quality of life update. They're actually going to do two phases. One of them is from April to June and then the other one's June to December phases. One of them is from April to June and then the other one's June to December, so that's going to be all year. This is a whole year long update to the game. So this is going to take everything from like gamma correction to map offerings, to spawning, to camping and tunneling, which I'm worried about the camping and tunneling thing and we'll talk about it here in a minute. But, nikki, are you, are you there? Are you still thinking? He is thinking he is a big fucking thinker here and I'm kind of worried about what he has to say because he's thinking so fucking much. What, what all could you possibly have to say, nikki, about this update? But it's going to be huge. They've never done anything like this, this quality of life.
Speaker 1:Ah, so BHVR's out here saying they're doing QL changes instead of updates. Huh, Listen, kid. Let me tell you something. This ain't about quality of life. It's not. This is about BHVR dodging real work like a survivor dodging M1 Myers. It's not. This is about BHVR dodging real work like a survivor dodging M1 Myers.
Speaker 3:They're trying to dodge work by doing quality of life updates. How the fuck are you trying to dodge work by doing that, Nicky?
Speaker 1:The good, the bad and the disrespectful.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 1:Nicky's breakdown here's a breakdown. The breakdown good the good what is the good of? This update. If they're fixing hit validation ui bugs in the game not running like it's powered by a dying hamster, then yeah, I'll take that. Okay, add actual, meaningful ql like a block button for disrespectful survivors. I wish I'm looking at you earl gray.
Speaker 3:I wish he's. He's already going into his nemesis, earl gray, but if there was kind of a block button for those kinds of survivors, I'm, I'm totally into that. Um, give me more of that. I'm going to give that a hang on. Do we have our? Fucking? No, not that. Yes, there we go, that's our thing, right there. So, uh, I am, I am uh, if we could block people, that'd be good, that'd be good. Okay, nikki, what's next? I don't even know if he's telling the truth here. I'm just going based off what he said. You'd think I would research, but that's not what we fucking do here. All right, nikki, what else?
Speaker 1:Fine If matchmaking doesn't feel like I'm getting sent to the gulag. Every game great.
Speaker 3:I agree.
Speaker 3:Let's not pretend, this is the same, although let me go off on a tangent here, if I could be serious for a second. I think matchmaking people hated on MMR, but MMR was, in and of itself, a good thing, except for content creators who wanted to steamroll newer survivors or lower ranked survivors on a consistent basis. You know what I mean. If that makes sense, um, because they didn't look as good as they're used to, and so that's just. That's unacceptable. Am I right? That it's just. I don't look amazing. Every single match. Okay, here we go. The real update. Okay, the real update.
Speaker 1:Bad or, as I call it, anti-italian tech.
Speaker 3:Anti-Italian tech. What's the anti-Italian stuff in this update?
Speaker 1:It's, instead of real balance changes what Survivors get to have dead hard for five years but, killers get. We made the menu slightly easier to navigate instead of actual that's true, though when are we going to get like?
Speaker 3:We're never going to get what survivors get? Killer mains never get what survivors get, and that's the common refrain Survivors, there's survivor main right behind me, but we never get what they get.
Speaker 2:And.
Speaker 3:I think we've just kind of stopped asking for it, because even this update, from what I have seen, looks like it's going to be great for the survivors. It's going to be shit for the killers.
Speaker 1:K-O-L what.
Speaker 3:Sounds fancy. Yes, it does sound fancy, but it's just them dodging real meta adjustments. Yeah, I would agree.
Speaker 3:When they start talking about gameplay clarity, it's the moment I know they're about to nerf tunneling again that's exactly it, and I could have said a better myself is that they're just going to somehow shit all over tunneling. They're going to take every single thing that killers can do camp, tunnel, whatever, whatever uh, you know, they will change it all to make it harder and harder for the killers. And what's going to happen? This is my prediction here. This is a prediction from the toxic teacher, and if you don't like it, find me on the socials, email me the toxic teacher, gmailcom, camping them softly at gmailcom, find me twitch socials, whatever. But what they're gonna do, put, put the money here on the fucking table. What they are going to do is they are going to nerf camping, nerf tunneling, nerf everything to the point where killer mains will stop playing and the survivor queues will go through the roof, like they've already done once before. This has already happened and it'll probably happen again. All right, nikki, keep going?
Speaker 1:Where's my Italian cosmetics, bhvr? I've been petitioning for a ghost face with a pinstripe suit and a fedora for years. Where's my Legion skin that makes them look like a pizza delivery guy about to throw hands. Disrespectful, the disrespectful, the worst part. Okay, what's the worst part? You? Know what this means they ain't fixing the real problems. Okay, boone's still broken. Yeah, probably.
Speaker 3:Yeah, they're not doing anything.
Speaker 1:Packers still teleporting across the map.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 1:Guarantee.
Speaker 3:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1:And worst of all. Yeah of all yeah, they still ain't addressing matchmaking which I know is rigged against italian players. Why else do I keep getting matched against four stack flashlight squads? They can't name things like t for life because they're british. Final verdict fuck nicky's official statement what is your official nice and all, but it ain't a real update if camping ain't getting buffed I I wish camping would get buffed If the game still hates, Ghostface mains. I'll be lodging an official complaint. They do still.
Speaker 1:They hate all killer mains, though, if they don't give us proper Italian representation in skins and cosmetics, then it's clear, bhvr is still running the anti-Italian agenda, are they? So yeah, nice, try BHVR. But this the anti-Italian agenda. So yeah, nice, try BHVR. But this ain't fooling me, this is just fancy words, for we ain't fixing shit Now. If you'll excuse me, I got family business to attend to, and by that I mean dodging any games where survivors bring med kits.
Speaker 3:I mean, they can't even handle Lightborne and I that's another thing I'm going to put money on is that they will nerf Lightborne by the end of this year. That's my second prediction. Number number one prediction right here, you heard it here, folks is that number one there are going to be so many changes that are anti-killer that it will impact queue times for survivors, for sure, and it's going to upset them. So give me that. That's number one. Number two is that what was I going to say? What was I going to fucking say? What was I saying? I totally forgot. It was something. There was another thing. He said that he was going to dodge when they break. Oh, yes, yeah, right, right, right, right, right. Number two is that they will this year, in some form or fashion, they are going to, they're going to nerf Lightborn in some way. I don't know what that way is yet. Lightborn in some way. I don't know what that way is yet, but it is going to happen. You heard it. You heard it Nerfing Lightborn. That's not what the fucking. So that's that. That. That is one of my big gripes with this.
Speaker 3:I'm going to go through more of the quality of life updates. More of the quality of life updates. They're talking about putting in a surrender state for, to quote, unquote, limit frustration on both sides, whatever that means. So let's take a look here, and I'm reading, I'm looking at their post. It says right here there are two scenarios in which surrender can happen. Number one all survivors have been slugged, okay, and then number that's that's for the survivor side. Survivors can just surrender if they all get slugged. Number two all remaining survivors are bots, which I've never, I have never once seen that in my life. Basically, what they're doing, what they're going to do, is they're giving the survivors an easy way out. They're giving them a way to just disconnect on the match. What if the killer still could get blood points dropping pallets and shit like that? Like this is fucking awful.
Speaker 3:So I'm totally. They gotta do're. They're going to shit on killer, somehow you will not get as many blood points by default. You probably like what, if you want to hang out, you want to hold them there for a second and then kill them and then hook them and then more him like you're not going to be able to get those blood points because they're just going to give up like that and then you get not as much. So it actually helps survivors. They get out of the match. Number two. The killer, um, loses out. So this is fucking. This is dumb man, okay. So, uh, the next one is go next. Prevention um. Okay, this is interesting. I'm going to have to read this. So what it says is go next.
Speaker 3:Expression refers to instances where a killer deliberately does everything in their power to quickly go to their next game killer and standing still running to a hook and pointing at it or, most commonly, failing skill checks while intentionally failing skill checks on hook. So that's where we get the people just dying on hook on purpose. So let's see what this is. This sounds we might be getting to something good here. I'm reading the rest of it. So, who knows, to disincentivize and properly penalize this behavior. We'll be implementing measures that will help us identify when a player is attempting to go next. Once identified, they receive a disconnection penalty point and lose an entire grade.
Speaker 2:But see, here's the thing Grades don't mean shit.
Speaker 3:You lose few blood points and that's it, that's nothing. So that to me, okay, the idea is good, but the execution not so good. All right. Next, on the other hand, we'd like to reward players who stick it out through those challenging matches, even when things take a dire turn. We'll be moving forward with a new emblem-based multiplier that grants blood points during your following match, with the blood point stacking over consecutive trials. Okay, I'm fine with that. If that incentivizes people to stay in the matches, stick it out, not give up. Okay, that's cool, I'm fine with that.
Speaker 3:Now here is the next one, which is actually kind of killer-sided in a way, or actually, we don't call it killer-sided, we call it balanced Because that's what we get. We don't get buffs, we get balance, like actual balance. They get buffs, we get nerfs Like it's fucking stupid. Okay. So they talk about extreme hiding and body blocking prevention. So extreme hiding refers to survivors drawing out an unwinnable match by ignoring their objective and waiting out the clock, which is a big problem, especially in those three gen situations where you hit them, they run, or there's two left and they're both hiding. They just won't come out, no matter what. You're having to check all the edges of the map. You know what I mean. You're having to go around and check those. So we're changing the way. They're changing the way AFK crows operate so they can more accurately identify when a player is deliberately avoiding engagement with their gameplay objective. Okay, so once a player receives crows, their location will be immediately revealed to the killer. But the crows take forever, though, like, and if you're moving, you don't really get the crows to my knowledge. Am I right on that? I don't know. All right. So it says I'll also be incorporating a feature that allows players to lose collision collision after receiving a third afk, which should prevent instances of body block related griefing. I don't what the fuck are they even talking about? I've never had that happen in my life, for that to even be a thing. So I don't know, maybe that's something that goes on and that's just so far outside of my realm.
Speaker 3:This week, on Camping them Softly, we fucking learned shit that we didn't even know existed. All right, next up, map offerings. Okay, it says right here, moving forward, moving forward. Map offerings will no longer guarantee the appearance of a map, but rather increase its chances by 20%. And note they don't stack. So that's good. That way they can't pin you on a map. Okay, that's fine, I'm fine with that. Cool, all right.
Speaker 3:Spawn rules. It says survivor spawn placements have a significant impact on a trial's outcome, an observation that has been repeatedly recognized by our community. Okay, that's fine. Killer survivor placement that our community. Okay, that's fine. Killer survivor placement that does matter. Okay, so it says we're changing default spawn rules to ensure each survivor will spawn within 12 meters one another on the same floor, and then the shroud offerings will be changed. However, they need to be changed Now.
Speaker 3:There's been a lot of debate on this. Is it good for survivors to all spawn together? Is it good for them to spawn apart and each kind of split the gens at the beginning of the match? I think that's going to remain to be seen. This may be. In my opinion, this may be something that they have to walk back if it doesn't go the way that they think it should. So I would pay attention to that. One is something that may or may not make it out of like a PTB. If they're putting these in PTBs, all right. So let me see AFK bots. Players that use AFK bots are going to be able to detect that Bulk blood point spending. Great Quest system. This is going to be more like the mobile game, where there's going to be quests and bullshit like that, and they're going to rework the challenge systems which are the dailies. I'm fine with that too, I like that I like DBD mobile.
Speaker 3:So if you make it more like that mobile a lot of people don't like that mobile experience I'm fine with that, okay, and then, um, after uh, they're gonna, they're going to allow players to see their own perk loadouts while in a lobby, as well as adding, uh, additional loadout slots. Why? Why? But why would you want to see your own in the lobby? It says allowing players to see their own perk loadouts. Is that like you're only seeing your own or you're seeing the? You know you're not seeing the other survivors, are you? And adding additional perk loadout slots? Okay, like that.
Speaker 3:I'm a little confused by that, even what that would mean. Somebody, if you can explain to me, find me on social media something. So that is phase one. This is the upcoming changes from April to June, and then we've got phase two in, like July timeframe to December. So that's phase one. They are going to kind of uh, they're going to kind of slow down on the releases. As far as I know, this could be a good thing, depending on how these go. If you look at the rest, um, preview perks and lobby spawn rules we already talked about all that. If we look at July to December um. You've got anti slugging it says continued improvements. You've also got anti-tunneling and anti-camping, which is going to be them shitting on killers for six fucking months.
Speaker 3:That's just. We're going to have shit all over us from BHVR. They a massive steaming pile of garbage. Shit, boo, boo, boo that it could not be worse, do I? I don't even have a sound for how bad that is, do I? No, that's not it. Hi, I'm looking for Ray Finkel and a clean pair of shorts. And then, uh, they got mapping key.
Speaker 3:Item balancing keys, I guess, are going to be balanced Keys don't do anything. And then the next thing item balancing keys, I guess, are going to be balanced. Keys don't do anything. And then the next thing keyboard and mouse on consoles Okay, that's cool. Prestige rewards Cool. Reduce login steps, whatever the fuck that means.
Speaker 3:Accessibility improvements always a good thing. Custom game improvements always a good thing. So that's what we're looking at in terms of the updates from here to the end of the year Some good, some bad, some somewhere in the middle, and you know, it remains to be seen. I'm going to try not to get too down on it. I'm going to try. I don't know if I'm going to be able to successfully do that, but I'm going to try. I'm going to do my best. I'm going to give it. You know we'll give it out of the PTB and then give it a few weeks and see what happens. I don't want to jump on it right away, so don't want to be a negative, negative Nelly, and let me go.
Speaker 3:Okay, so now we got to talk real quick. Remember, we're doing a shorter podcast this week. I'm experimenting with the shorter shit. We've got to talk about our viewers and where they come from. I know right, I'm a little, do you notice? I'm a little bit lower energy today, not feeling quite as great as normal, little bit lower energy today, not feeling quite as great as normal.
Speaker 3:But we've got a couple of places we need to talk about. We've got one place we need to talk about, really, and I found I saw this one and how loud is this fucking music? This is loud as shit. Right, there, can we turn down? This is loud as shit. Right, there, can we turn down? That's good, right, okay, there we go. I think we're better. So this place. We got another place in fucking, in France. What in the hell is this crap? I know right. So we've got to talk about this place.
Speaker 3:Nancy, nancy, nancy, thank you for coming by at this place, nancy, nancy, thank you for coming by Nancy France, which I didn't even know was a fucking place. God damn it. James Brown, james, stop shut up for a second. Okay, nancy Murth at Moselle Murth at Moselle, I think, is the name of this place. I'm going to talk to you about Nancy France real quick. Nancy France, I am not going to play Nikki's whole thing, but I want to see what, where you are. You're up in Northeast France, you're almost in Germany, which is crazy. Um, let me see geography. The uh, old, no, how many people are in here? How many people live in Nancy? How many people are in here? How many people live in Nancy? What percentage? Oh, there's 100,000 people. This is small as shit. Oh shit, no, that was the wrong sound.
Speaker 2:Okay, nancy Francie, let me see what else is going on with you, nancy?
Speaker 3:What are the main sights? The city center looks beautiful. Go to the Ducal Palace of Nancy. They got a Notre Dame. Is that the actual Notre Dame, or is this a different one? This is a different one, right? No, yeah, it's not the real way. It's not the main one. Okay, they have the nice botanical garden Du Montet, and then they've also got the Museum of Fine Arts of Nancy. That's weird, because Nancy's a name here. They're also known for their macarons or macaroons. Do we call them macaroons or macarons? Check out their macarons. And then they also have Bergamot. Is it Bergamot or Bergamo? I don't know. I'm sure they say Bergamo. Check out their Bergamo. Check out their macarons. Check out the fake Notre Dame. Check out the fact that Germany is right next door. Sorry.
Speaker 2:Germany.
Speaker 3:And then also, what else does it say? The palaces of the Dukes of Lorraine. Lorraine lived there, so that is Nancy. France. I'm sorry we went by so fucking fast, but you are in France, so there's not a whole lot of good shit to say. I said as much as I could. That is where the fuck are the viewers from. We're going fast. This is the fastest episode ever. All right, so that's it for me for this week. We're 25 fucking minutes. I feel like this was too fast, but I'm going to try it. We went over quality of life. I may be splitting this into like different episodes or two separate podcasts, I don't know.
Speaker 3:I'm thinking out loud if we have a toxic off topic or something that's too fucking loud I can't hear myself think like a toxic off topic cast or something. And then we have like the one where we talk just about dvd. Who knows who fucking knows who fucking cares. We're're the podcast of global affairs Now. Um, we've also got a two V eight still going on. It's garbage and shit. I there's not enough bad things I can say about that, because you can't even get in as a killer. They pumped it up to 400%. Still couldn't get it going. There's a survey out. If you want to take that survey, we may take that on the next episode of the podcast. If you get on Dead by Daylight, you'll see that survey, and I think that's about all of the big news right now in DBD. There's just not a lot this time of year, so we'll try with the shorter episode. We'll see how that works. Guys, that's it for this week.
Speaker 3:Follow me on Twitch Toxic Teacher TTV. Follow me on YouTube the Toxic Teacher. I'm Toxic Teacher TTV. On all those socials. Wow, this is so weird. Normally I'd be less than halfway done. Alright, satan, are you ready?
Speaker 2:Get the fuck out of my face.
Speaker 3:Get the fuck out of my face, see you. See you next time.
